A friend suggested this place recently, and I'd never heard of it. Pulled up to what looked like a former warehouse, and was skeptical. The interior was interesting, and the place was packed despite being pretty big - usually a good sign. Looked like most people were munching on fish fries, and they looked intriguing, so I rolled with that. Wow, was I NOT disappointed. When I say this, I don't say it lightly. This was easily in the top 3 best fish fries that I've ever had. Maybe even top 2. Cooked to perfection, excellent batter crunch, light and fluffy inside. It was delicious even without the tartar sauce - and that tartar sauce was also one of the best I've ever had. I even asked for a side to bring home. The salad it came with was super basic, but the blue cheese it came with was on another level. The side of garlic mashed potatoes was the lone bleak spot of the meal - it left a lot to be desired, and I'm not a fan of the skins in my mashed potatoes. Our seafood was so overcooked the entire tables dinners were ruined. The owner refused to acknowledge his food was so well done it couldn't be chewed. He came to our table and argued with us. Basically stole our money as we all went away hungry. We tried to eat the callous and shrimp.. so rubber and leathery we could not. Absolutely shameful what Steve Spotts said. It's great food! This restaurant is very casual, but we heard that the prime rib special is very good. My husband ordered that and they were out of it. Our server took the order and then had to come back to tell him they were out, It was 6:45 pm so a little disappointing. He then ordered broiled fish. Server took the order and then came back to tell us one baked potato was left. They had one left so we split that and shared mashed potatoes. I also ordered the broiled fish & my son the fish fry. All of our food was very good! We will have to go a lot earlier next time to try to get a prime rib. read more

Have gone to Fosters twice in the last 4 months and both times left without ever being seated. Although there weee over 8 tables being empty, the restaurant had only 2 servers. When we called ahead to reserve, they only do reservations for 8+ diners. The first time we waited over an hour, this time we left after 25 minutes. I was told the wait would be at least another 30-45 minutes. Our mind was made up when a couple already seated left because no one had yet come to their table. All of this and it was 4:20 in the afternoon. The food is good, I've gotten takeout several times and have been pleased with the quality. The service in the the restaurant sucks.... I am usually pretty easy on restaurants because I work in the business and am very sympathetic. However after giving Foster's a try for the third time I probably won't go back. I will start by saying the food itself was very good, there were six of us and we had an array of Steaks, pasta and chicken dish's. Everything was great. However it started well before that. When you walk in you first go into the bar which is not a problem, but when we entered the whole bar turned and looked at us like we just interrupted a mafia meeting making us uncomfortable right of the bat. We waited for a hostess for what seemed like a long time but she did show. Myself and my girlfriend like to have a drink before we eat so we stopped at the bar to get a couple of cocktails. The bar itself was full but the rest of the place was empty. We were never acknowledged by the bartender, she walked past us three to four times, left the bar, came back and still ignored us. At this put what seemed like 10 minutes (probably only a couple) we said screw it and sat down. From there on the service was slow, The dishes were slow to be cleared and all and all the experience not so great. And this is the third time its happened. Like I said the food was pretty good and the wait person was nice but the the rest of the experience was awful. You folks need to train your staff read more

We got take out from here. The prime rib is the real deal, thick and tasty. Mine was just a touch overcooked but my dads was perfect and mine was still great. My wife got chicken french and said it was very good, the portion was huge. The scallops are amazing. The chicken finger meal was kind of a let down but my 2 year old didn't care. It only come with three fingers, and the fries were not very good. The fries being bad can probably be blamed on it being takeout, styrofoam containers make everything mushy. I didn't care for the chicken pot pie soup but others thought it was great so it's just a matter of opinion. I decided to give them 5 stars even though the chicken finger meal was weak because their prime rib was on point, I've been let down so many times with prime rib. read more

I would love to give this place 5 stars because the food is awesome but they really need to do something about the service on Friday nights. While you don't have long long wait for your table, the wait seems too long before your waitress takes your order. Works need to be done on this. They also need to speak with the 'extra servers'. The ones who give you water and bread. When I was there on 9/29 - I had to ask for bread an water even though a couple of tables seated after us had already received theirs. The young girl was snippy and gave us water without ice and we over heard her tell another table that she was really tired and didn't want to be there. That's fine, we all feel that one every once in a while but those comments should be kept in the break room. So keep up the good work on the great food, but work on the other issues. read more

Foster's Restaurant, of Hilton NY, is the worst place ever. Used them to cater my wedding and they double booked and did not come through with the table cloths, water glasses, silverware, or plates (they brought paper plates in place of dinner plates and cake plates) that they promised. They lost our cater order and insisted we never placed it even tho we were in touch about things. The owner didn't even have the courtesy to admit his mistake, instead we were informed by an employee the NIGHT BEFORE our wedding. Food came and was sub par at best and was in aluminum tins instead of nice serving dishes with warmers underneath. Roast beef was dry instead of cooked in A Ju sauce unlike our order which was Roast beef cooked in a ju. Also paid for salad to be dispersed to guests on plates but instead it was setup on the buffet table. Then my "caterers" left without cutting the wedding cake. Every wedding caterer knows to do this! In an attempt to "compensate" us they left to go containers and left over food behind as well as offer my in laws a discount off of the catering for my sister in law's upcoming wedding. My wife and l never received an apology not that the owner showed up to our wedding anyways. I guess Hilton Exempt guests are just more important then our friends and family even tho we booked as early as February 2017 and as late as spring 2017 for our wedding on August 26th 2017. I don't care about excuses such as change of ownership or contracts between other venues, this lack of professionalism and service disgusts me. Then to take compensation for the lack of things mentioned above is criminal. I would never recommend their catering services and also will never do business of any kind with this establishment in the future. If you like the food there go to the The Dakota Grill the food is exactly the same as a former cook is the owner of this establishment. I never write bad reviews, but after today I think other people should know. We went to Foster's for my daughter's 9th birthday. She told the waitress it was her birthday and although she was nice and most likely joking one of her responses was, "it's all down hill from here". I mean, she's 9! Our food was pretty good, until I took a big bite of coleslaw and there was a black hair in it! I could not take another bite of my sandwich! Yuk! I told the waitress and she agreed that that was gross and said she would show the cooks. Two minutes later the bus boy brought us our check. The waitress came back and I asked if there was any type of compensation for the disgusting hair. She said, "well that never happens, so no" She also said, that the staff always wear hair nets. Well, it surely wasn't my hair I thought. I asked to talk to the manager. The manager did not come over, but the waitress came back and said, they took 3 dollars off. Well, we will never be back. The manager never came over. The half of sandwich that was next to the coleslaw with the hair was thrown out and lastly, there was no happy birthday dessert or anything for my daughter. just got home from having dinner at Foster's. Overall positive experience but we have some constructive feedback. As a business owner I understand the importance of feedback early on, and hope they know it's intended to help. I have a lot of respect for the owner and executive chef Steve, and we do plan to return. When we do I will update this post -The calamari appetizer is a very small portion and not very well prepared. Charge a little more and double the portion. Very mild flavor and needed breading, needs to be crispy, was a little undercooked. -The mixed vegetable side with eggplant, squash and red peppers was very oily overcooked. -water glasses should be set out and the server should pour the water, not a task for the guest. -no tables had plates when they were served bread, everyone was eating on their placemat. -The dining room seemed a little smoky and very warm. Keep an eye on the temperature and make sure the kitchen exhaust is working properly. overall great atmosphere otherwise, everyone was very personable and the chef came out to meet a few of the guests. We also had a winetasting before we sat down for dinner which was very nice. Excellent salad, potatoes, lasagna and chicken French. The veal Foster was very good. read more

We enjoyed the Chicken french yet found the sauce a bit buttery with a heightened lemon. We were found struggling with lemon seeds within the entree which is a first for us. The chicken portions were great and an exceptional value for the price. The salad was fresh and delightful. The staff were great and the chef is known for perfection. My only complaint would be less butter in the french sauce. This is a minor faux pas and we will visit again and try other specialties. read more

All in all good . Couple of comments : I had prime rib , ordered medium rare , it was Well done and honestly on the tough side. My wife had chicken and it was excellent . Portions a bit small for the price. We will go back for sure though. I would also recommend warming rolls if it's possible . Just seems much Fresher when warm. Well I'm not one to leave a negative review or even take the time to write one. We arrived kinda early on a Friday, they were waiting for workers to come in before they seated people. We ordered soup which was great. We ordered Calamari and it was not good. Almost like it's not cooked enough and there was still White powdery batter that was slimy on the inside of most the bigger pieces. Obviously these are just frozen, which I would of been fine with. Anyway we ordered fish fry's. The fish fry was good or better than decent. The fries that cam out on our plate where white. The cooked them very little. Waitress was as nice as could be. Even told us she has been telling them they need to cook the fries more. Said they're always rushing. She understood the issue with the calamari and agreed. I never ask to take something off a bill, typically I wait to see if they offer than except. Well this case I said please take this calamari off, she agreed. When she came back she was embarrassed to tell me the cook or whomever said no and this is the way they should be. Well I'm sorry but shame on him. His comment made me write this honest post. My local regular food spot was closed today so I decided to try Fosters as I live within a 5-7 minute drive. I ordered a few things and was delighted to read everything is made fresh. I don't feel this is true and I will explain my experience. I got takeout, arrived before the food was finished and living not too far away there was no reason my food should have been cold. As in ice cold and had to put it in to rewarm. I tasted everything prior to rewarming (I like to try it as rewarming can change things). My regular restaurant is 3 miles farther and it takes longer to drive home- their food is always warm when I get home. Their side salad was not chopped well so I didnt get much lettuce in it. The banana peppers they put in were dry and rubbery. Couldn't chew through them at all. Their dressing was pretty good. I ordered the Lobster Bisque on some recommendations, it was cold and did not taste fresh at all. It tasted like lumpy gravy and it was completely cold. The random lobster in it was few and far between.Tasted overcooked. The mozzarella wedges had no cheese in them. They were completely hollow. The marinara was good but not the type to dip as it was chunky. Where is the cheese in these wedges? There is no way those were fresh made, they tasted frozen and thrown in the frier. The chicken foster needs some work. Its way too buttery, couldn't taste the lemon or any other seasoning (including the lack of salt). The artichokes were canned and tough. I like the water canned artichokes but if you don't inspect them, sometimes they have tough leaves. All three artichokes (they were halved) had tough leaves. Three halves of artichokes, canned, in a full portion was disappointing. Mushrooms were good, this dish itself is way too expensive. $18 for a full portion and two pieces of half a breast of chicken with cold butter sauce over a small amount of angel hair pasta. I would like to give Fosters another shot yet im not sure when, or if I could. I can pay just as much to go to Overtime grill and their food will be piping hot. I can pay less to get more and hot food at Olympia. I was hoping for a better experience from a local place. read more

We have eaten at Fosters about 25 or 30 times and each meal is as perfect and memorable as the one before! The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Pam has trained her wait staff to be just like her. Accommodating and anxious to please by making an effort to fill any special food needs to the best of their ability. The delicious lobster bisque can be served at the temperature of the sun (the way God meant it to be) upon request. The fish fry, which is available every day, is a very generous portion either battered or breaded and when served with their own homemade tarter sauce is delightful. The prime rib is nicely flavored, cooked to your specifications and usually more than can be consumed at one sitting. The steaks are always served just as ordered and quite tasty as well. Fosters has a lovely Raspberry poppy seed salad dressing which when served with crumbly blue cheese is right on point! Fosters is certain to please if you are looking for a memorable dining experience, you won't be disappointed. read more

I have eaten here twice now, and both times it has been amazing. We went for appetizers the other night, and lunch today. Artichokes French is the way to my heart, and they were fantastic. We also shared lobster bisque, clams casino and greens and beans. Every one of these was amazing. Today we went in for lunch, and my husband had a delicious turkey club and I had a black and blue burger with portabello mushrooms, sautéed onions and crumbly blue melted on top. Both were awesome. I'm so excited to try the other menu items, and so glad we have such a new hidden gem in Hilton. I highly recommend! read more

The service was good at Fosters and people were very friendly. The main course of veal Pamela was excellent and I so appreciated they had half portions as it was plenty big enough. Great option. I would recommend that they update their salad and use more mixed greens and stop the iceberg lettuce as it is tired and dated. Good experience and I would tell others to try. read more
