So the food is not great there's no seasoning in the food. I had eggs Benedict with hashbrowns and my daughter had home fries with banana pecan waffles, which the waffles are pretty huge but they're kind of hard. She also had a milkshake. She had a tiny straw so she couldn't suck out of it. The waitress came over once and then after that every time she came over, she talked to all the seniors that were there and didn't come to our table to check on us when we did order food I did ask her what she thinks of either the home fries or the hashbrowns and she didn't have an answer, and I overheard her tell the next table too, so I'm assuming she's never tried the food or doesn't care. She took our drink order fairly quick. The drinks came out in a timely manner. Then we ordered our meals. Again the orders were taken quickly and food was brought out pretty fast. I opted for a veggie wrap without cheese because I am attempting to go vegan in my eating preference. They do have salads, fries, vegetables but no meat alternatives. Was heading into Spencerport with my mom and we figured there had to be a diner somewhere near where we were going. And yes... stumbled upon Slayton Place right near the canal. Clean little diner with very friendly and attentive staff. They are enforcing social distancing so half the tables and booths were blocked off, but we were seated right away. The food was good! Breakfast served all day long so that's a plus for me!! I had sausage biscuits and gravy. It was a BIG portion and the biscuits looked/tasted to be home made. Very good. A family restaurant with a typical diner menu, friendly service and good food. What particularly impressed me was that you could get a large variety of "simple sandwiches" for only $6 with chips and if you want to add soup (3 daily choices) it's only $4 more. That's great for an inexpensive lunch. Of course, you can spend a bit more and make it a dinner, but it's nice that they give you a choice. I have an affinity for the village of Spencerport. Although I grew up literally houses away from the school district, I never spent time there as a kid. I've never been inside any Spencerport shops. BUT Slayton place is a restaurant I've gone to many times. I live in WA state now, it when I come home I'm here at least once a visit. Now, I've had AMAZING breakfasts here, and ones that were less than impressive. My review is 3 stars because of the other day was my first impression, I wouldn't be back. On my visit day, the restaurant had to close at 2 for interior repairs, so my meal was rushed. I hadn't eaten breakfast yet, so I opted for the Corn Beef Hash and eggs. One of two things went sort of sideways here. Either, since it was close to end of day for them, I received what was left of the hash, OR, that was the actual portion. The Corned beef was sparse and intermixed with hash browns. Not enough to call it corned beef hash, and ultimately disappointing, The eggs were however, perfect. Very few places get when I say I want my eggs scrambled soft, my waitress this day did get it. THAT and the fact that the other meals I've had were pretty good is why my rating is 3 star instead of lower. To give them the best chance for an amazing experience, stop by Sunday after church or before football, whatever it looks like in your world. Favorite place for a straight-forward, no nonsense breakfast. Christine is the best for service, accuracy, and attitude. The place is always very clean. They even make sure S&P shakers are clean. Portions are always generous (more than I could eat in 2 sittings). Biscuits and sausage gravy are always the best! I always order a little "off the menu", but Christine insures they get it right in the kitchen. The only reason I only gave 4 stars, is because if you don't get Christine as a server, the timing is a bit off on service. The other waitress ( don't remember her name) seems to always want to rush me through ordering. Today, unfortunately, I found a short black hair on my pancake plate. Our breakfast experience was not a good one. Many negative things and not really anything that could stand out as a positive thing. It started with us ordering coffee and water. The waitress brought out 2 enormous waters. They were most likely 24 oz glasses. The water did not taste good most likely because of the ice cubes they used. The coffee was not hot and it was bitter. Not good coffee. There were no creamers on the table. The bowl they put them in was empty. On to the breakfast. My breakfast was barely warm and the hash browns had a weird greasy taste to them. The toast was the cheapest bread they could find and it was not even warm when they covered half of it with unmelted margarine. They don't even use butter on the toast. My wife's cheese omelette had no cheese in it. Just a slice of cheese on top. That's not how a diner that wants people to come back makes a cheese omelette. Her food was barely warm also. She also had unmelted margarine on her toast. The ham that was with my breakfast was pretty thin and a cheap kind of ham. There are a lot of diners in the area much better than this one. We will never go back to this one again. I have cooked in a few different places and owned my own place for 8 years. This place in Spencerport is lucky to still be in business. I know it doesn't take much to give people a good dining experience. These people don't seem to care. read more

My wife and I went to Slayton Place for breakfast. The restaurant was clean and had a good crowd. We were there years ago but it look different when I walked in. My wife told me that it was flooded few years back and it was remodeled. Apparently the flood caused a lot of damage. My wife had an omelette and I had French toast, bacon, eggs and toast. I really didn't like the taste of the French toast. I don't know if it was the cinnamon they put on it. It tasted different. They were always coming around asking if you wanted a refill on your coffee. Having refills on my coffee is a must. On a scale from 1 to 10 I'd give my breakfast a 6. This diner is nothing special. I guess you can't complain tooo much because it is in Spencerport. It seems more expensive for diner food but I always have leftovers if I order something for lunch or dinner. The best thing about it is that it is very consistent, and your food is always the same each time, the wait staff is always the same...the old people that go there every morning are the same ordering the same thing haha. I've eaten breakfast here several times and always felt that it was decent. Not great, not bad...just decent. In fairness to the restaurant I never really challenged them. I am not disappointed, just not thrilled either but I come back. See photos of my omelettes. Cut to today when I finally ate lunch here. Pleasantly surprised. I got the steak sandwich and you know, it was nicely put together with care and skill. It is grilled steak with provolone cheese, grilled onion and peppers on the grilled french roll. Alright, I was a bit harsh on the last review because of the food poisoning incident, but Kristin wanted to eat at Slayton Place last month so I gave it another shot and ordered the chicken tender basket. I prayed for some change because the waitress was very friendly and attentive even though there was no one at the entrance when we walked in. It only took about fifteen minutes for the food to et out but even when I bit into the chicken, it tasted a bit cold which was such a shame because they did taste great. The French fries were fantastic as always but it's still no excuse for a poorly executed main dish. Kristin had better look with her breakfast dish which I was a bit jealous of, but I can't complain because this is more of a breakfast place then a lunch or dinner location. I may have not mentioned this before, but inside it's VERY casual with booths and tables all on carpet if I can recall with one lone television on the large window. They have a full eating area in the back but I don't see them use that often, or if they use at all. The gumball machines I don't think were ever changed because inside of them looks to be a bit green and icky. The food was on the cheap side, but I really wanted to experience something at least good here but again I got another mediocre dish despite it being nowhere bad as the last one. I'm giving this one more chance in the coming days, but only for breakfast, never again for lunch or dinner, NEVER AGAIN! read more

I ordered a Garlic chicken with spinach, zucchini and tomatoe pasta, off the dinner specials list they gave me upon coming in. When my meal came it had no spinach in it. I asked the waitress if she could bring me the menu because I wanted to make sure I wasn't mistaken about what I ordered. yup I am correct in what I ordered. I let her know it didn't have spinach in it. She gave me a nasty look and say's we have a different cook tonight he must have made it without the spinach... I was looking at her like okay, but it says that's what it's supposed to be. She hastily offered to bring me out a side of spinach. Umm no gross it wont have the flavor from the food I'm eating then. I just responded with no. She stands there looking at me and says well what do you want me to do? No way am I sending my food back and having them make another after the way she is acting cause I'm worried one of them will do something to it out of spite. She never offered to take any amount of the price off since it didn't have all the ingredients it advertised in it. Never offered a manager to come over. The pasta was sitting on a deep pool of oil that was not flavored with seasonings. When I got home, I had a stomachache from the amount of oil used in the dish. The bathrooms were very dirty. Runs of dirt going down the whole bottom half of the walls. The fork they gave me had a prong bent way out I had to ask for another one. I stopped here for a late breakfast today, around noontime. There was a good crowd, but I was seated & served quickly. I ordered coffee and eggs Benedict with home fries, and they came out very fast. Eggs were cooked perfectly, and the Hollandaise sauce was very tasty. The waitress was very friendly. For the price of $7.99, it was a bargain.
