We had to go to the front to see her, even though you could hear her just fine from the table. My friend ordered a number of appetizers for the table. I only tried the beef skewer with pesto (good and tender) and the homemade chips and onion dip (very good). I also ordered a mocktail (OK in taste but full of ice so not at all worth the price - $17!). If you do not drink, just have water or a soda - their mocktails are the same price as cocktails, which is really not cool. Our server, Kristin, was very nice. She took our pictures and was just helpful overall throughout the night. The vibe and the look of the place was dim and moody - very cool place to bring a date, go alone, or be with friends. I would definitely return.

I'll start out by saying that the time in the Aviary was the best cocktail experience we have ever had. Not saying the best cocktails (even though they were very good), but the best experience as far as interesting presentations and overall service combined with good cocktails that when you were drinking them did not feel gimmicky at all, but that everything had a purpose. My wife did the 3 drink progression and ordered The Partridge, The 3 Martini Lunch, and the non-alcoholic version of the Kyoto Plum. I got three cocktails, but because I opted for one on their barrel aged part of the menu, my progression was basically a la carte, not the 3 drink $75 price. We also opted for one small bite of food - The Truffle explosion. My drinks were the Cereal Killer, the In The Rocks, and the Blood and Sand. As far as favorites went Joy's Partridge was basically a Mint Julep with some warming spices, but the presentation was great. Almost every table got that drink so it must be well received. My favorite was the Blood and Sand that was just a really well balanced cocktail. I think that part of the menu does not get the elaborate presentations. We both also enjoyed sharing the 3 martini lunch which was a small version of a Vesper, a Gibson, and a dirty Martini. Two things about this drink, we like our martinis with gin rather than vodka (obviously a Vesper has both), but their rules are that there are no changes to their menus, so both the gibson and the dirty martini were vodka based. The Gibson and the Vesper were our favorites of the three as the dirty martini was too dirty. There was even more olive brine if we wanted it dirtier. Bottom line, top notch experience, great friendly service, and the atmosphere was awesome watching the room being served some of the drinks we had, and ones that we did not order. The Truffle Explosion was also a very good bite, basically a truffle/parmesan infused soup dumpling that exploded in your mouth and helped out with a little food in our belly while having all that alcohol at the same time. The only disappointing cocktail was the Kyoto Plum mocktail, interesting presentation, but tasted just like grape juice - no real character. A hostess from Next came and got us and took us to our table in Next for the 1987 Manhattan meal. Thanks for a great experience Aviary!!

Only one of us ended up doing the experience (the rest of us were too full and already tipsy from dinner) but it was nonetheless, a very cool experience. Service was top notch. My partner has admired this place for a long time, as a bartender himself, and he has even learned a thing or two from their Bible-like cookbooks. So when the maitre d offered to allow him to step into the kitchen and help finish one of their cocktails, he was absolutely giddy. This was such a memorable and special touch for us during our visit to Chicago. I loved seeing how the kitchen worked together in a traditional kitchen line but only focusing on cocktails. It was an impressive thing to see. Many of the cocktails are presented in an incredibly theatrical way featuring interesting glassware, dry ice, and even a plastic bag filled with flavored air. I actually wasn't a big fan of the cocktail I ordered (it leaned too heavy into the BBQ flavor for my taste) but I enjoyed trying everyone else's cocktails at the table. I would definitely recommend checking out The Aviary if you are a cocktail enthusiast hoping to try something you can't get anywhere else. The Foundation Room in Chicago is an absolute gem! The space is stunning--filled with unique, intricate architecture and a moody, upscale vibe that sets the perfect tone for any event. The bartenders are top-notch--super friendly, fast, and they really know how to craft a great drink. Huge shoutout to the production team as well; they're professional, detail-oriented, and make everything run seamlessly. You can tell they genuinely care about creating a flawless experience from start to finish. They didn't make it to my table to check to see if everything was okay while I was eating and it even took them a while to notice that I was done eating. It's was slow so I don't think they were stressing with too many tables. That kind of place should knock your socks off - but it was on the low end of mediocre. I wouldn't go there again for food. Maybe it's a decent place to go to the bar but since I don't drink I can't help much on that end.

But I digress. I started the experience with a Crimson and Carbide. A little spicy, a little smoky, a light sweetness, and big-time creativity (and color) with the use of beet juice. That said, I don't feel this drink was worth the $20 it cost. Location and venue, I suppose? For food, I ordered the Tuna Tartare. Usually, I'm all for new and interesting interpretations, but this crosses the line into Tuna Tartare tacos. The result was something significantly more carb-heavy than I would have liked. Further, other than the fish being lightly marinated (which is pretty standard), there was nothing remotely interesting or unique about the app. Much like the cocktail, this was priced on the high end, coming out at $28. It isn't all doom and gloom! I will gladly say they have a solid whiskey list, and I was able to try the 12 year old Dalmore. Price wasn't low, but knowing how much a bottle costs, I think $18 is in line with what I would expect from a bar, generally. I also want to give a shoutout to their service staff, who were attentive and fast (though, food took a bit longer than I would have hoped). Final verdict: If you're seeking a quieter spot to spend some time with a small company (even if that's a company of one), and you have money to burn, Bar Pendry isn't a half-bad option. Last week on a recent visit to Chicago, I stayed at the Chicago Pendry. I arrived to the hotel in…read morethe latter part of a weekday evening, and after checking in and getting settled, I decided to go downstairs to the Bar Pendry for a bite to eat. I would later return to the Bar Pendry during the weekend for a cocktail. Both experiences were positive. I enjoyed the food, drinks, service, and ambiance at the bar. When I first arrived to grab a bite, I sat right next to the bar to watch one of the March Madness basketball games that were showing on the one television near me. The food menu options include share plates, large plates, and dessert options. I chose a Wagyu Burger consisting of 8 oz of wagyu beef, bacon onion jam, cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes, and a brioche bun and served with French fries. It was tasty and filling, and they brought out small single serve condiment jars for the burger and fries. As they only brought me Dijon mustard, I asked if they had yellow mustard, and they made me my own dish of yellow mustard (which was unexpected but appreciated). A few days later, my friend and I stopped by again on a weekend afternoon for cocktails. The cocktail menu included classic, contemporary, and non-alcoholic drinks. I requested a vodka based drink that was fruity and sweet, and they brought out a French Martini, which typically is made with vodka, pineapple juice, and Chambord (a French black raspberry liqueur), and garnished with a piece of fruit. We both got the French Martinis, and it was exactly as I had requested it. We also had a small dish of complimentary nuts and olives to go with our drinks. The Bar Pendry felt both classic and modern at the same time. The furniture felt intentional, and I saw individuals, small groups, and large groups alike at the bar over the two times I visited. They also have a Social Hour on Sunday through Wednesday from 4-6 PM (through May 31) offering draft beer for $5, house wine for $6, and food options between $7 and $20. They also host special events including the Spirit of Chicago from Sunday through Wednesday from 4-5 PM (through May 31) where for $35 per person (inclusive of tax & gratuity), you can get a spirit tasting flight (three 1.5 oz pours) and 3 bite pairings. There is also a Mother's Day Boozy Tea on May 10 from 11 AM to 3 PM. This afternoon tea with a twist features tea-based cocktails, small bites, live entertainment and a little something special for mom for $100 per person. The Tea Tower includes four savory bites and four sweet bites, and the Boozy teas include three options. If you are staying at the Chicago Pendry or even in the area and want to enjoy a small but good bar, check them out!

While the band was warming up, the 1960 black-and-white romantic comedy/drama The Apartment was playing on a big screen over the stage. I loved that, but I did wish that closed captions had been on. We had the burrata (awesome) and split the smash burger and a side of fries. Both were good, and there was a great sauce/aioli served with the fries. The show was awesome, this band really cooks. We each had a couple of cocktails and they were also good, and balanced, so not too sweet or sour. My husband felt that his drinks were a little too sweet. The vibe is retro, sexy, upscale and with fun touches like the showgirl wallpaper designed by Melissa Scott in the entrance area. The whole space is beautiful and would be great for a date, girls' night, guys' night or any special occasion. One really nice thing was that during the band's intermission there was a fabulous performance by the burlesque dancer Lily Rascal. What a fun way to keep the party going. It was a really fun night, I'll definitely be back.

I didn't expect anything much after reading reviews. Basically repeating what others have said.
