In regards to the food here, I expected a lot more than what I received. So, here's my short review and points of my experiences here: 1) The customer service was not bad. Nothing impressive, but also no problems. I noticed that the food preparers were not using gloves to touch the food, but as I have seen that in other restaurants in the area, that was not a top concern. 2) The pork and beef used for the sandwiches is fresh cooked, but still has almost all of the fat and gristle remaining on the slices. On sandwiches, this, to me, is very annoying, given that chewy pieces of fat are never appetizing when eating a sandwich. 3) In all honesty, for the quality of sandwiches they serve, they are overpriced. Given my point above about the "fat" on the meat, the sandwiches are about $1-$2 too expensive. Will I come again? Probably not for a couple of reasons: For one, I've had better similar food within a 10-minute driving radius from this location (the "Bahn Mi" sandwich is unique as it is a Vietnamese-style sandwich which I have yet to find in this area, but the fat content has turned me away from getting it again), and for two, my expectations of the food quality here were not met. A close friend of mine was astonished that I had never been to Four Kings before; he almost disowned me a friend when he discovered that I had never tried, or even heard of, the famous Banh Mi sandwich at Four Kings. When I mentioned - out loud in my office - that I had never heard of this sandwich, several heads popped out from cubicles to collectively shun and "sandwich shame" me. Ok, ok, ok....jeeeeez, I'll try it. Holy smokes! This concoction basically combines all that I love about Vietnamese food into a sandwich! Update: went to their bakery and tried their bread pudding. It was excellent. Then we walked next door to the sandwich shop. This time we ordered one roast beef and one veggie sandwich. The roast beef was good. I've had better but it's difficult to compete with Katz's Delicatessen which has been a New York institution since the 1800s. But take my word for it, the roast beef was good. Don't pass it up. The veggie sandwich was better. It was made with fresh vegetables. It was crunchy but moist where required to be. Most veggie sandwiches are not very good. This one hit the spot. The place looked a bit different since the pandemic but I'm not subtler what changed. We enjoyed our meal and the bread pudding. Would have given the place 5 stars but the service didn't really come with a smile. Service was okay to nice, nothing special but that's not why we came. In this place the food takes center stage. This is a family run, slow food style place (as much as you can consider a sandwich, salad, and soup shop, anyway) And indeed and they seem to care about what they're selling. Which shows passion. In a world hell-bent on destroying anything non-industrial or chain, this is a place for you to support! And you won't be disappointed. Bread is fresh, ingredients have never left me wanting nor have I found tired lettuce or other shortcuts. And instead of a soulless corporate place that may start with "P" and ends with an "a", come here and get your fresh-baked products at twice the size in a much more reasonable price. I bookedmarked Four Kings because of a ROTD and I was happen to be in the neighborhood, hungry, looking for something to eat. I ordered a Roasted Beef, Corn chowder and a soda for about $13. They handed me the soup before the sandwich, very cool, however, the soup is average at best. The best part is the sandwich, my first impression of the sandwich is how heavy it is (yes, I do workout), kind unexpected. It tastes great, very meaty. The service is great and plenty parking. This is our favorite lunch break place. Friendly, clean, great prices. Food is AMAZING, soup offered everyday and WOW so very good. I've lived near Universal for a year and just recently tried Four Kings. I have been missing out! Their roast beef sandwich is my absolute favorite sandwich of all time. I have been seeing the posts on Facebook about the daily specials. They all sound delicious btw. I finally have a Friday off of work so I can try the chicken and dumplings soup. I also tried the Bahn Mi sandwich which I loved the flavor and the bread was perfect. They also have a bakery next door with fresh bread and sweets and I'm definitely going to stop in there next time. Oh Four kings how I wish I had found you sooner. One glorious evening my neighbor's told us about a little place called four kings they raved about the food and couldn't stop talking about Bahn Mi I knew I had to give this place a try. The following morning I woke up with my mouth watering thinking about the Bahn Mi sandwich and I anxiously waited until lunch time before heading over to four kings. My husband and I both ordered the Bahn Mi sandwich with chips and a drink, the food came out quickly and it was fresh. I opened the package my sandwich was nicely wrapped in and what a glorious sight fresh jalapeno's yes yes yes..... I love it when a place gets it right and serves me fresh jalapenos and not jarred. I was hooked after the first bite the Bahn Mi is everything I hoped it would be, my husband and I made a few ummmm sounds but other than that it was a silent lunch as we soaked in the flavors and delight of my new favorite sandwich. I didn't have any room left in my stomach but we did venture to the bakery to pick up some goodies to take home, we picked out a variety of desserts for the kids, some bread and a pastry everything was a hit. We have since been to Four kings on several occasions and tried several of the daily special sandwiches (they can be found on the four kings face book page) along with several of the soups, salads and dinners for two. We are definitely repeat customers and highly recommend four kings. My husband introduced his work colleagues during lunch one day and every one enjoyed there food with no complaints. Great sandwiches. My bahn mi(pork) was top notch. My wife loved her chicken salad sandwich and my daughter loved her roast beef on a pretzel bun(very soft and moist). This is my second time here. Staff is not friendly, out of unsweet tea and when we told them we sat and waited for more. Ordered the Italian Grinder. I asked to remove the tomatoes and they said they couldn't because they are pre-mixed. Although not a game changer it was a disappointment. What dropped them to the bottom was the salami still had the (not for eating) exterior wax/paper skin attached. It made for a very unpleasant experience. Every time I see a less than 4-star review, I get cringy and die a little bit. Four Kings is MY PLACE. Every time I have to interview a new employee, I bring them to Four Kings, because the atmosphere is utilitarian, but still comfortable (irony?)--all due to the fact the folks working here are friendly, responsive and provide me tasty food at a reasonable price. I can still have a 1-1 conversation without feeling like I'm in a merry-go-round franchise crap place. Their fare is across the board--if you can't find something you like, you are dead inside. Their sandwiches, salads, soups and treats can feed an army. I realize a Mom-and-Pop shop won't meet everyone's miniscule, millennial, first world demands (trite but true), but they do a hell of a job trying to satisfy their customers...
