Yesterday, I wanted to have some good home cooked vegetables and it had been awhile since I was in South Memphis. So I decide to go to Four Way Grill. I truly was not disappointed. The food was delicious and my server Jo was on point. By the time I finished my first glass of Arnold Palmer, my next one was on the table. The restaurant was clean and the decor make you feel home with all of the historic photographs on the wall. I don't eat pork and I was pleased that the vegetable were not cooked with pork like some traditional soul food restaurants. The energy in the restaurant feels exciting and I was also pleased, I did not have to wait to be seated. I will be traveling to south Memphis more often to get my vegetables. read more

The food here is usually very good but the service and amount of time it takes to get your meal absolutely suck. Our party of four, including a hungry toddler, was seated quickly but it took more than 5 minutes for a server to come to the table then 10 minutes to get drinks after ordering. We ordered some fresh, fried foods but it took more than 45 minutes to get a burger and a fried chicken leg. Several parties were seated after us and were gone before I food was served. We arrived before the after church rush began, but had a dismal dining experience. If you don't look like a preacher, a celebrity, or a tourist, this isn't the place. read more

I'm going to preface this by saying I'm not a soul food junkie, but I went here with friends that are. And I was not the only one at the table sad at the end of the meal. The tea was crazy super sweet tea, and I had the half-half tea. I was told that the pure sweet tea was so sweet you could chew it. I was told they had salads (we called before we went) but when we got there we were told that they didn't because they had no lettuce. Who opens a restaurant and has no lettuce? So I ordered the turkey because I thought that would be safe, with mac and cheese and potato salad. The turkey came with an orange sauce, and it was super slimy. The mac and cheese was Kraft, and none of us liked it. The potato salad was almost ok, but there was barely any potato in it. I am so disappointed, because most reviews here are very good, but our experience was really bad. There are soul food places that have good baked meals that I'll eat, but this one will never get me back. read more

First time I went to this restaurant I had apple cobbler and sweet potato pie. One apple cobbler was really good but the second one (my wife's) was just apples in it no crust and the sweet potato pie was really not made well some of the sweet potatoes were cooked and it was lumpy which is a total No-No for soul food sweet potato pie must be smooth! Just went there today and try the cobbler one more time and it was disgusting uncooked half done liquidity I asked for another one and they agree that that was bad then they gave me another one that me or my sons did not enjoy just threw it out the car. Won't go back. I do want to mention that the food looked good there but my experience. The customer service was also decent. They just seem to have a problem with consistency. read more

Willie Bates was suppose to be here for our group arrival but was a no show.... deep breath. **We forwarded preorders days ahead, per person. We arrived on time and were seated immediately. However, the food was served cold. 7 guests didn't receive their dinners 1 hour into visit and was very unorganized. We received no refills on tea or water until we grabbed frustrated wait staff. However, they then ran outta mac'n cheese, chicken legs. No manager was present to assist seamingly untrained staff. Food was tasty for the most part but I recommend finding a backed mac and cheese recipe...they just need help managing large groups and better trained wait staff. The most interesting part was eating at a place so rich in American history. Today I had the WORST dining experience I've ever had in all my life at the 4Way Grill.... Food was cold, service was poor and management was very unpleasant.... My fiancée ordered fish that came out raw and was told by the server that they had been receiving several complaints about it and a manager would take care of it only for us to be charged for it later on ... Restroom located near where they had us sitting smell horrid.... Server did not refill drinks and was very seldom at the table .... Paid for a drink I received at the end of my dining experience and never received a refill... Not to mention having to ask for my check 4 time didn't get it until 30min later ... It is safe to say I will NEVER dine here again and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for good food and great service because you most definitely won't find it there .... read more

I ordered fried chicken which has no seasoning whatsoever, dressing which was stove top and mac-n-cheese which was also from the box. they didn't even have bottled ketchup. The chicken skin was fried to perfection (crispy, salty, hot) and was accompanied by coleslaw and pickled tomatoes. I wish the service were a little faster but the food was the real winner. We were visiting Memphis and read about this restaurant in our guidebook, which gave it a great review. They were so right! This was the soul food that we had been looking for all over the South! Delicious fried chicken and sides, plus the best sweet potato pie I've ever had. The owner, Willie Bates, came to our table and chatted with us about the restaurant's history, and our server, Bertha, was very welcoming and gave us excellent service. I will NEVER visit this restaurant again, the first time I went with a well known city official, and received great service and food. I decided to visit four years later since relocating back to Memphis and when I entered and spoke to one of the owners that was sitting down, she looked at me with a mean face, and hollered a person name out to come help me. The waitress was nice and the food was great, but I did not appreciate a person looking at me inappropriately and not speaking in return, but I have to remember this is MEMPHIS. I left the waiter a tip and said thank you for the great service. I returned two days later, to place a to go order, and a old lady was on the phone for about 5 to 8 minutes holding a full conversation not relating to a order, but gossipping on the phone. I waited paitiently and was informed that the young lady would have to take my order, so I placed a order. Once my order was complete, I decided to check my box and noticed that one of my side items were missing and I notified the waitress and she said, it will take a while for the yams, to be done, Did you want something else? I looked at her puzzled, due to the fact that you would let me walk out missing one side item. I asked if I could substitute the peach cobbler in the place of the yams, and she stated let me check, since he recently allowed someone else to substitute a side for Peach Cobbler. When the waitress returned she said that he said NO, so I gave her a additional side to replace it, but I was thinking to myself I will never come back again, and why would you substitute one customer order, but not the next, and just left without the other substitute side, since it was taking so long. Dinner has been the highlight of our vacation so far! We visited nearby Stax Records and had heard of Four Way so we dropped in for dinner. What a special experience! Our server, a young man named Logan was so charming and attentive that we wanted to take him home to show some of our local restaurants how customers should be taken care of! I suggest you read up on the Four Way as a visitor to learn amazing historical facts like the fact that it was one of the few places in segregated Memphis that blacks and whites dined together...that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ate here often, even dining here last, prior to his assassination. All that would have been a nice experience but the food made it FANTASTIC! Fried chicken and fish were perfectly seasoned. All veggies were fresh and the green beans transported me back to my grandmother's house as a child! Also the VIP drink is a must! My wife and I stopped by Four Way for a late lunch last week after visiting Elmwood Cemetery and Stax. Talk about a great choice. The ladies were as friendly as can be and the food was honest and prepared with lots of love. My husband & I traveled to Nashville & Memphis for the music and to experience these 2 great southern American cities. My husband is 80 yrs. young and had never tried Soul Food--The FourWay came highly recommended and we were not disappointed. Just a short distance from STAX, where we had worked up an appetite, parked in their private lot. Restaurant is nothing fancy but clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. No liquor served. Food is very reasonably priced. I had the fried chicken--moist and crunchy. My husband had BBQ ribs (which were way meatier than the Rendevous). We both had collard greens, yams, cornbread and topped it all off with peach cobbler. With their rotating menu, we were just sorry we weren't spending more time in Memphis! read more
