Butterific is a cookie shop just steps from the iconic National Civil Rights Museum and Central BBQ. The employees are so nice and the space is warm and welcoming. The iced oatmeal cookie is tasty, while the snickerdoodle is just okay. Expect softer cookies, not chewy ones. Their products are made with care and nicely displayed. But they aren't necessarily the best cookies you'll find in Memphis. But if you just ate at Central BBQ and need a quick sugary treat, this is your spot. read more

I stopped by Butteriffic Bakery & Cafe and decided to try their banana pudding and wow it was so good. The first thing I noticed was that they use butter cookies instead of the usual wafers which made it taste even better. Everything was fresh and creamy and the flavors just came together perfectly. It wasn't too sweet but still had that rich homemade taste. You can tell it's made with care and not just thrown together. Honestly I almost finished the whole thing before I even got home lol. This place has delightful butter cookies. In fact, they have many delicious varieties of baked goods as well. The Butter Pecan Cookies, for me, are where it is at though.... for real. I first came across this place at the Cooper-Young Festival some years back. I had sampled some of the edibles from Ounce of Hope tent, and the munchies had set in. As we got near her booth, I heard a lot of loud music, commotion, and I think there was even a bubble machine. The lady who owns this place is out there hooting, hollering, and legitimately screaming at people as they walked by. It was no doubt the liveliest booth at the festival. She was as pushy selling her stuff as the guy at the fair trying to guess your age and weight without the crackhead vibe. Needless to say, she got my attention. I step up and realize what she is selling. Immediately, I ask if they were as good as Makeda's, (as that is my gold standard for sugar cookies in Memphis). She quips back, "that's my Mommas place". Oh shit. Here we go! I tell her about my obsession with Makeda's and how it's part of my Orange Mound trio. It includes Makeda's, then either Paynes or Ball Hoggerz, and then a stop by Pop's Tamales on the way back. Her response.... "Oh, you know something, then". Damn right I do. Sorry for getting distracted by nostalgia of walking around CYF all high eating cookies. It's one of my favorite pass times. Needless to say, I love her, her mama, and her cookies. I stop by every chance I get. Pro Tip. There is a O.G. Central BBQ (not Kemmons Wilson owned trash) right in front of this place, and the National Civil Rights Museum is nearby as well. Pro. Pro Tip. How does a a trip to the museum turn into a chance encounter you ask? Well I am here to tell you how! I am very much of a wanderer. I am that person who will look at places and be like "we can walk there ! " Today was to be a wander to Sun Studios and the to the Civil Rights museum . Which I did accomplish but ok that route a little sign saying cookies caught my eye . I mean who doesn't like cookies? I mean I haven't eaten yet and was feeling a bit peckish. So I'm I went. This is where I have a bit of a beef with the worker who I believe was also the owner. What were we beefing about you ask? Well let me tell you. She made me wait ! Not only wait but wait in front of a case full of treats that looked delectable. Which then made me buy more than I expected. My only saving grace was there were many empty slots or I would have ended up with much more. With a wonderfully pleasant check out I was off and running. Then came the unwrapping and tastings. From first bite I just wanted to walk back in and give her a hug of gratitude. I quickly went from thinking I bought too many to I didn't buy enough! I will lay awake tonight wishing I had more of those buttery morsels of delight. This is why I enjoy walking when I am out exploring cities and towns. This place has got to have some of the best cookies I have ever tried from any cookie shop. We have so many cookie shops in Arizona and none of them compare to the cookies we had here! We were in walking distance form our hotel so we made it on over. Right as we walked in, we were quickly greeted by a friendly lady and young guy. They both seemed so happy and eager to help us out. It was so hard on deciding what we wanted to order but we knew we couldn't order too many because we had to fly out the next day. We ended up getting one butter cookie, one oatmeal cookie, and a chocolate chip one. We ate them later in the day and our first bites exceeded our expectations. The cookies were soft, moist, chewy, and just perfect! We ended up finishing them in one sitting and only wished we had bought more. When I was in town I was in the mood for something sweet and Butteriffic came up in my search. Because it wasn't a long walk from my hotel, I opted to walk there. It's located not on a side street, but also not on an overly busy road (at least the time I visited). When I arrived, outside you'll notice a pretty mural painted on the side of the brick building. When you arrive inside you're nose is greeted with a delightful smell of freshly baked cookies. I was promptly greeted and headed straight to the case of cookies. Because they're known for their butter cookies, I got a few of those, a peanut butter chocolate, iced oatmeal, snickerdoodle, and regular chocolate chip. They were all packaged in saran wrap, to keep them fresh. I loved the butter cookie, it was rich, had a little bit of a bite to it, and was huge. My kiddo loved his chocolate chip cookie. She is very welcoming and has a great personality and vibe that lifts your spirits immediately when you walk in. She has a clever way of responding with "butter" in a lot of her answers. Example, "you butter believe it!" Or "they're butterific!" We ordered her original butter cookie, lemon butter cookie, pecan butter cookie and banana pudding. I came home to deal with the death of mother and since I've been in Memphis 6wks now I've had some of ehe worse customer service interactions that I've had anywhere but this place as soon as I opened door I was met with the loudest, most cheerful, excited welcome I've ever heard upon entering an establishment. It truly threw me off guard but in a way that I wanted to spend money here. Then when the employee came I was ready for something negative but, this young man spoke to me with a smile, was so gracious and honest that it made me wish that he was the face of Memphis. He is what Memphis used to be when I lived here. So I purchased several items and when I got back to the house I was planning on eating one of the cookies but ended up eating all four smh don't judge me damnit!!! lol this place may may not look great on the outside nor the inside but what it's lacking in beauty it truly made up for it ten fold in service, friendliness, smiles & taste.
