This is a difficult review to write. The people at Fowler made me feel like their most important customer before I ever walked into their establishment. I do not care if you are an expert or looking for your first gun, Fowler is the place to go. They make you feel like a friend. Knowledgeable, friendly and trustworthy. Dalton, Ryan and Sean are all people that get what good customer service is and they exceed it. I will begin and end all of my firearm needs with these folks. The reason this is a difficult review to write is because I can't say enough good things about my experience and it gave me writer's block. Can't deliver promised goods and they'lI charge you for it. I went there over a year ago to purchase an anniversary gift for my wife, a rifle for the "iron" anniversary. I made a deposit, and waited. And waited. When the anniversary came up, no one would answer the phone. I waited. I went in, and they said "we're still waiting, sorry." Now it's nearly a year later and I go in to ask for my money back. No apology. Nothing. They try and sell me some other gun that's twice the price. I say, nah, I'll just take my deposit back. I deposited $150. He talks to the manager who tells him to offer me store credit or pay a 25% cancellation fee. They are the ones who can't deliver. Wtf? And then when I say no, I'll take money back they give me only $100 back! Basic math. 25% of $150 is $37.50 not $50. I really should have been getting all of my money back. So for $13.50 and a whole lotta wasted time they bought a review. And they lost any future business from me. Gun shops like this make so much money, I'm sure they don't care. Not only do they continue to make empty promises, they harbor employees that damage their reputation, protect them, and rationalize them. Want to know why The Stockade went out of business? This is a pretty good start. Check the picture. They beg for forgiveness without any follow through, then make excuses and when that doesn't work, they resort to insults and playing the victim. (Back story: During freedom week when magazines of all size were legal, they were telling customers that they were still illegal and insulting them. Looking for a gun shop with solid customer service - this isn't it! It starts with a 30-45 minute wait (or longer) on the sidewalk outside the store. Next you get ushered in by a salesperson who gives you about half of their attention and offers up gun brands you've never heard of (Etro?) at prices that exceed what you'd pay for quality name brand products elsewhere. Got a concern after your purchase - good luck mate! They don't answer the phone when you call (don't believe it, give them a call now), they don't respond to voicemails, and they don't follow-up on the email address they provide on their answering machine (don't believe it, give it a try). Your only option is to go wait out on the sidewalk like beggar hoping the Gun gods inside will have mercy on you and help you with a concern they caused. Seriously folks, just take a 10 minute drive up Tustin Ave to Turners to be treated like a valued customer and get the gun you want at a fair price. read more

Decent inventory, but typically priced higher than most other dealers. But what really turned me off to Fowlers was the rude, arrogant attitude and clear misinformation on gun laws I received from them TWICE in the past couple years when I tried to do a interstate, intra-familial transfer of a handgun from my daughter in Colorado. First, Fowlers said all I needed was to submit the Report of Operation of Law or Intra-Familial Handgun Transaction form and $19 fee to the CA DOJ within 30 days after taking possession. WRONG. This only applies to INTRA-state family transfers, i.e., if we were BOTH CA residents. My daughter is a CO resident. INTER-state. Thus FEDERAL law controls, not state law ... so the transfer must occur like any other out-of-state PPT: It MUST go through an FFL and a DROS must be done. What Fowlers suggested would make me a felon. I told them this ... they just insulted me in response. Then they asked if it was an "off roster" handgun. Yes, it was (both times) ... to which they responded an off-roster handgun couldn't be transferred from out of state. Again, WRONG. FFLs here in CA commonly transfer off-roster handguns through facilitating private party transfers or out of state intra-familial transfers, through the DROS process all day long. Dealers can't SELL off-roster handguns, but they CAN facilitate a transfer of one. Next, I said she was driving to CA with her legally owned off-roster handgun and would do the transfer in person ... and Fowlers said she couldn't legally travel into CA with an off-roster handgun. Yet again, WRONG. It is completely legal for her to travel to CA in possession of her legally acquired off-roster handgun, transported unloaded in a locked case ... as long as any magazines greater than 10 rounds remained in CO and it doesn't have a threaded barrel. And since she can legally transport it in CA, she can just as legally walk into an FFL with it to perform her end of a face-to-face intra-familial transfer. At this point Fowler's just said "we don't do those transfers". I.e., they had ZERO intellectual curiosity (or integrity) to even investigate what the law actually says. So I drove five minutes down the 55 freeway to Ammo Brothers. They did the transfers with the DROS no questions asked, routinely, painlessly, like they've done it hundreds of times. Fowler's high prices are typically enough to encourage me to shop somewhere else ... but their incredibly rude and arrogant behavior in handling a routine legitimate inquiry, and then refusing to acknowledge that they were wrong, is cause for me to never shop there again. read more

If you're a new gun buyer like me, this place isn't very helpful at all especially if you get certain employees. Both times I went, I unfortunately got two different Lattino guys to help and both were unhelpful, unfriendly, and generally poor service. The older (white) employees were much more helpful with other customers. When I walked in, the guy helping me just looked at me and didn't greet me. I asked about a gun I wanted and he said they didn't have it but they had other guns by the same maker. I asked if the gun they did have was similar to the one I wanted and he said they were exactly the same. Well, no they weren't, because one is a . 45 and another is a 9mm. And one gun is a lot bigger to hold and heavier than the other, and they also have different sights. Throughout the whole thing, he never asked me any questions and just acted annoyed like I didn't know what I was doing and was wasting his time. Just picture a guy taking a lot of deep breaths and having his hands on his hips and looking at you occasionally like you're an idiot, that's what he was doing to me. I really wanted to buy a gun that day so I bought the . 45. When I came back 2 weeks later to pick it up, another Latino guy helped me with ammo and he had the same attitude as the last guy, no questions, just acting annoyed that I was asking basic questions. When I was checking out, I asked him if he had any basic safety tips and the guy said to me "That's on you." So unhelpful. Eventually, he showed me that the hammer had to be pulled back before the safety could be engaged. This type of attitude for new buyers is no good. This place charges $100 over msrp for guns because of covid panic buying. On the plus side, they do have a very good selection compared to the 3 other gun stores I went to (who were all sold out.) My advice: if you are a new buyer, you may not have a good experience here, especially if you're unlucky enough to get one of the Latino employees. Ask for a different one if you can. Come here prepared on what you want to buy (check their Instagram for current stock) and be prepared to pay above retail price for everything. Other people are exactly right about this store when they say customer service is pretty bad and there's a terrible attitude with some employees here. read more

Because of current shortages I decided to try Fowler several years after giving a poor review in which I granted them a two star rating based solely on inventory, however this is a more detailed account of my interactions with Fowler. I noticed most of the 5 star ratings are from first time gun buyers. I was not a first time gun buyer when I entered the Fowler Gun Room, I have owned many guns over 22 years, I reload my own ammo, and I wonder how this place continues to exist. First thing you can expect when you go into the Fowler Gun room: You will pay exactly what they think you should pay. Everything there is overpriced and you can get the exact same item, literally anywhere else, for a lower price. Heaven forbid what you need to buy is ammunition or reloading related, because they will raise their prices to match the ridiculous postings on Gunbroker. For those who have never gone anywhere else but to Fowler's for reloading supplies, a box of 1000 primers should costs $40, not $150. And yeah, even in this shortage other gun retailers have not raised their prices to this extent because they are not douchebags. Second thing you can expect: Waiting. They will help you when they are G**D*** good and ready. Salespeople chatting with each other behind the counter avoided eye contact with me as I stood there waiting, so I took initiative to ask for help from them and was promptly redirected to another salesperson currently talking to another customer and told that person would help me when he was done. This literally happened. Third thing to expect: Bad Advice. I can see why a first time gun buyer bereft of knowledge to all things firearm related would be enamored by a seeming wealth of information from a salesman behind the gun counter, and I can equally see how validation by filling said vacuum would be a mutually endearing experience. Having heard some of that knowledge however, I felt nearly compelled to stop a couple outside the store and tell them, for both physical and financial safety, to wipe the last 20 minutes of garbage they heard from their memory. Everyone has their opinion on home defense, but a hollow point in just about any caliber, much less the .45 ACP recommended by the salesperson for its "stopping power," will routinely over-penetrate 6-8 panels of sheetrock, not defy physics and magically lose all kinetic energy upon contact with the first wall. Any bullet discharged in a room built out of drywall and 2x4's by all be the smallest/weakest cartridges will not terminate their trajectory in that same room. Additionally, the judge will categorically reject "The guy at the gun store told me..." as a defense when trying to explain your version of reasonable use of deadly force under California's "Castle Doctrine". Fourth thing to expect: Just a bad attitude. Because a Fowler salesperson has never heard of a part you need, this means it doesn't exist, and he thinks you are an idiot who knows not of what you speak. Outside the Fowler Gun Room, this part most certainly does exist as an essential component of reloading, is referred to by the term used in his presence, and no one can reload rifle ammo without it. Other than that, good selection of firearms and accessories (to end on a positive note). But no pity star this time. read more

I am a new gun owner and did my research first. I went to 5 different shops and got a wide range of experiences. The big chain could not have cared less and barely paid attention to me. A few other shops were nice and helpful but had limited selections. This is the sweet spot. A mom and pop shop with a great selection of both new and used guns. You can tell the employees have been here forever and if you are honest and just admit you are a noob--they take the time to work with you. The prices are not the highest and not the lowest but you expect that from a mom and pop shop and you are paying for the experience and care given. It can be a bit annoying when you go in and have to wait a few minutes on line--but the line itself is evidence of a good shop that cares about its customers. I have now bought two pistols from Fowler and they are my go to shop. read more

My private party transfer was denied today. Older hispanic male employee, probably manager, abruptly interfere's with my transfer which began with Glen who's a really helpful employee I've personally bought many guns from over at Stockade. Manager comes up with a hilarious excuse about the gun being "unsafe" even though us gun owners know that gun OWNERS can be unsafe, and guns don't fire themselves lol. I thought you were gun experts, but scared of this gun??? Lol Even without the bs excuse, the guy's body language, tone of voice, and eye contact made it clear he was gonna refuse the service they're supposed to provide. Horrible experience. read more

This is my first purchase from Fowler Guns. Considering all the craziness going on with the Covid-19 virus and the bigger virus which is the California DOJ, they were friendly and got me exactly what I wanted. I wanted a handgun special ordered brand new that they did not have in stock and they got it for me in a decent amount of time and a fair price. They also didn't place ridiculous restrictions on how much ammo I could buy and were well stocked. As I waited for my transaction I could hear the other sales people interacting with customers and they were all knowledgeable and informative. Major Problem, super shady! I purchased a gun and went to pick it up after the waiting period. When picking it up they said I already picked it up! I said I didn't, they pulled up the date, and sure enough I wasn't in town!! They gave the gun to someone else!!! Called me later that day and said I can pick it up, but had to claim I picked it up a week earlier when the other person picked it up! I said no way! They said fine, come back and do new paperwork again or get reimbursed for the gun. If I get the gun they'll waive the application fee, which I pad for the first time!! So all I got was the money back for the gun, and not the additional application fee. These guys are shady, and rude!!! I will never go back!!! read more

Looking to make my first time purchase and I had no clue CA was this strict. WOW! I stopped by FGR as I needed more information regarding a local FFL and to shop for a sidearm. I met Larry, who turned out to be a phenomenal Gun Salesman and just a straight up cool guy. He instructed me on what was necessary to obtain my sidearm and administered the FSC test to me. I pass Fowler 100's of times a month. I live just up the hill and have never stopped. The reviews have always been not so good. I'd heard that things had changed so my wife and I stopped in looking for a specific shotgun caliber for upland game. Not only did I find an excellent quality shotgun and a good selection (none from China like others carry), but we had great service from Joe as well. Very happy with the selection and the help.
