Just because it wasn't what I was looking for, I can't punish the store, and I think I'm not... But I'm going to admit with "Fox and Hounds", the problem was my expectations. British Bar INSIDE a "British designed hotel", so I had my hopes probably heightened more that it should have with my previous British bar results. I went in thinking British craziness and got a "Edgar Allen Poe" feel... But I'm going to say this was NOT what I was expecting. First and foremost, your eyes are going to need adjusting. Plain and simple, it felt more like a dark ... room? (Part of the problem I think is that as it was already June, you can forget using the fireplace to lighten the room up) so it felt.. "Small", and I"m going to feel weird saying this... "Romantic Horrorfest". Wait, before you go "wha??", this isnt' necessarily a bad thing. The Taxidermy , the photos on the wall. the fireplace. the VERY (and I mean VERY) dim lighting... The limited seating on the main floor, the one door in and out it had a "wooden cabin feel".. Yes, if you had a wonderful romantic film and it was suddenly invaded by some monster villain... This where it would take place and it would be perfect. (See I can find positive things to say about things i wasn't looking for) As for the service, apparently (going back to the Romantic filmfest), I was struggling to get any attention for the bartendress, cause I guess I was solo'ing by myself, and because of how I wasn't able to get the bartendress attention... I kinda felt like an unwanted customer in a place more for couples or friends getting together which had me leaving shortly thereafter, so no real food score (although I will say, much like Oh London ,the menu wasn't really much to work through...), Anyway, no TV's, no world cup game on the air.. just like I said a vibe of a cabin in a "romantic movie, where the monsters lurk". And Apologies for some of the iffy pictures, it just didn't feel right using a flash on the camera in such a secluded locale) and like I said, it wasnt' what I was expecting (rowdy British fans watching the local club or something), but there's something about it that even i have to admit, would make this location a nice "date night" or "out with friends' location, more so than just a single person looking for a nightcap. The coziest spot! This place is so perfect when you're wanting to go somewhere quaint and comfortable to enjoy an intimate setting. The fireplace totally makes the overall experience and makes you feel like you're in an elevated pub. There's lots of taxidermy on the walls and classic looking paintings, you feel like you're not in stl anymore. Our visit was for drinks only, and my dirty martini was great. My husband and I had toured Boundary as a possible wedding venue along with one of our daughters and her fiancé. Afterward, I suggested having cocktails at Fox and Hounds! We arrived around 3:45 and the place was busy! There was one open seating area so we grabbed it quickly. We spent a few minutes looking at the menu and then the guys went up to the bar to get our drinks. There didn't seem to be table service. I don't know if they ever have it or not. We enjoyed hanging out there for a few drinks. It has a dark, moody, comfy feel. I tried to take pictures but it was pretty dark and they didn't turn out well. Came in for dinner and a drink last Saturday - this place is right across the street from us and we'd been dying to try their burger and fish & chips. However, the experience fell a bit flat for us. All orders are placed at the bar - we ordered cocktails and food and had a perfect little table in the corner (atmosphere is 11/10). As we sipped our drinks, we were a bit disappointed to realize that they were definitely made with well liquor, despite being specialty cocktails (note to self: specify better alcohol next time!). When our food came, we were super excited to dive in. The fries were delish, and my husband's burger was definitely the winner. But the fish and chips were quite bad - totally over-breaded (almost like they were wrapped in a pancake) and not at all light and crispy, the dough was stretchy. This little pub is located inside the Cheshire. Parking was terrible but their lot is small and people are parking for the hotel, boundary, basso, and fox & hounds so it is understandable. The place was super crowded when we walked in but found a small table. Took about 15 mins to get through the line and grab a drink because it was packed but it was a friday night. The ambiance in the Fox & Hound is second to none. It may be hard to find a seat but it's worth the wait. We squeezed in at the bar for a drink (can't speak for the food, we only had drinks). This is apparently a local favorite and it's obvious why once you step inside. Apparently the hotel is a great wedding venue so plan to make reservations well in advance to dine at the restaurant or stay at the hotel. They have a whole bootlegger's stash of cocktails at The Fox & Hounds Speakeasy! Gind them inside the Cheshire Inn on Clayton. Find the secret entrance and belly up the bar. There's a selection of giggle water from the Roaring 20s to current trendy libations. They even have a menu packed with pub favorites like fish & chips or shepherd's pie. If you get there early enough, you can snag a seat in a dark corner. We showed up about 8pm on a Friday night and they were out of everything! An employee was wheeling in a new stash of frozen food into the back to start preparing, but I'll pass. If the place is packed, head to the hotel lobby and find lots of cozy seating around the fireplace. And if you bring all your friends, there's a seat for everyone! It was bumper to bumper folks in there on a Friday night. About 20 minutes to get a drink, only to find out that they were out of special ingredients for 3 of the cocktails. This pub had all the potential to be a great place tonight, maybe some live music but it definitely needed a decent outgoing bartender. Started off we sat there for 10 minutes waiting for the bartender, when she came in she apologized that she was delivering linens, we completely understood in a small boutique hotel you wear many hats. As guests walked in she stood looking down on her phone, if you are like the pubs in Europe where you come to the bar, greet them and let them know when they are ready come on up you can help them. Instead she ignored them, the more people that came in the ruder she got. We heard guests being told, it best you come to the bar to see what we have...we don't have that (said quite abruptly) napkins were quite forcefully put on the bar and glasses slammed down and bottles thrown in the trash with a loud bang. We left after one drink, I felt sorry for the guests and quite honestly do not tolerate poor customer service. People have bad days, I hope this was an exception... This is exactly the spot I was looking for for a cozy after-dinner drink. It is inside a hotel so it isn't right off of a street. I loved the English hunting lodge vibe. There were candles burning and also a fire place, but it was empty because it was a hot night. What I ordered: I just got a glass of wine, but it was good! And the bartender seemed knowledgeable. I flew to St. Louis to have a two day late birthday dinner with my daughter and her partner Tim and we went to the Cheshire Inn, which used to have a wonderful British/Irish type pub but had become an Italian restaurant called Brasso. I was disappointed to say the least, especially since I really wanted some Irish food being 42% Irish heritage. When I had to walk down a long flight of stairs to go to the dining room I was very unhappy because I have a ruptured tendon in my left ankle and had hip surgery just a couple of months ago and was walking with an ankle brace and a cane. The restaurant had a nice ambience very reminiscent of an English pub and I ordered a pasta dish called Mafalda which turned out to be very good. My daughter and her partner Tim also really enjoyed their entrées and I was extremely pleased to discover that I could take their service elevator up to the parking lot instead of having to walk the stairs again. This is the easiest 5 stars ever. I justlove this okace and the fact that it hasn't much changes since my college days. That's a loooong time. The entertainment was amazing to me. A guy on accoustic guitar accompanied by a jazz clarinet. I thought I'd seen everything but this was a new one for me. They were very talented. I really enjoyed having nightcaps with my friends at this place. You definitely feel like you're in a German pub or timber lodge or Masonic gathering or something. The couches are old and rustic, as well as the tables and the setting. The walls are adorned with "olde" stuff. It's my kind of place! The people there seem to be mostly of the more chilled out persuasion. Bartenders seem pretty chill and friendly. I had a cocktail that I think was called Aztec Gold, which was basically like a dessert drink, very tasty. Perfect end to the night! The Fox & Hounds Tavern inside the Chesire Hotel is a hidden gem in St. Louis. This bar is styled after an English hunting lodge. It is small, but has a lot of character. They have a good selection of beers, wines, and mixed drinks. There is a small, but well prepared food menu. I almost always get the burger (great fries) but they have a couple salads I enjoy as well. The staff has always been great. My friends and I will often go get food and drinks from the tavern and then play board games just outside the bar by the fire (and stuff bear). Occasionally there will even be live music. I can't speak highly enough of this place. It is a good spot to just relax with a pint with your friends. read more

Love this bar. It's inside the Cheshire hotel. Pretty full on a Sat @ 11:30pm but seating opened up after I got my drink. Tim the bartender was awesome. No smoking inside but vaping allowed :D Pretty small but cozy like an intimate hunting lodge/pub vibe, ambient lighting, wooden walls. Music playing but not obtrusive enough to interfere with conversation.
