Stumbled upon this place after having a sandwich down the street. Very small, but yet comfortable. Mike is a cool bartender, and ensured I was waited on promptly at the bar. All the beers they have are posted with prices, so there's really no room for questions. Even though Mike will gladly answer any and all questions. Thomas showed up for shift change, and was helpful in getting certain games on TVs for me to watch . Well if I could give six stars we still wouldn't have enough stars. Our AC is out on the hottest week of the year and we decided to chill out have a drink and order sushi from next door . The bar tender Tim said Rosie wanted to make our night more comfortable so they treated us to a delectable candle light dinner experience. Can't wait to come back again and meet this Rosie woman . I told them I love that they had a golden tee machine . They said their is a top score on Jamaican bay by a regular VB that can't be beaten by anyone . I will have to give it a go . Rosie's is the only divey down to earth bar left in the CWE and it's a must go for me if I happen to be in the area. Amidst all the overpriced snooty places, find your way to Rosie's for cheap drinks in a no frills, laid back, neighborhood style bar. I'm not really sure what some of the other reviews with negative comments about the regulars or the owners is all about because I've never had a bad experience. A few months ago I came in with a small bachelorette party on a Sunday afternoon and a few different people sent us different rounds of shots which was unexpected and super nice. The no-thrills atmosphere provides local Central West Enders a place to hang out, watch sports (at times over killing the atmosphere), listening to a wide range of music and drinking cocktails for less than they typical CWE restaurants and bars. Happy hour is always busy. And all of the customers know each other.... kind of like Cheers. If dive bars are not your thing..... go elsewhere. When I told friends I was going to Rosie's they polietly told me, "you know that is a dive bar". Like that was going to stop me. I told them I was aware of the "type" of bar I was going to and as long as they had vodka things would be A-OK. The drinks are cheap and the bartender gives a healthy pour. So it is real easy to get your buzz on. The decor is simple; bar, stools, high top tables and a juke box. It is a true neighborhood bar, with a good cast of regular drinkers. It was fun to watch as each new arrival entered the dive. There would be waves , handshakes and hugs from the other drinkers. A true "Cheers" bar, "Where everyone knows your name". Which is a good thing, because I think some drinkers there might need a little reminder of who they are before the night was over. When visiting Rosie's just beware, you may run into someone you know and just like Vegas, what happens at Rosie's stays at Rosie's. read more

Lovely dive bar. Cozy (inside only seats maybe 30-40?) and homey. Bartenders know you by name, and many of the customers also seem to be familiar with each other. No kitchen service just snacks and cigarettes (and apparently pizzas? I've never tried ordering one though). Drinks are cheap (especially for Central West End!) and strong. The lady who seems to be in charge of the bar is not named Rosie, so don't ask. Lastly, cash is king. read more

"Rosie" was working the bar. We came in after an engagement party on a Sunday afternoon to watch football and continue to enjoy the day. After she confiscated our drinks that we brought in, with which we had no issue, she completely refused to serve our table. I've never had worst service our worst attitude from the bar owner. She basically told us that she's been in business for 100 years and we could go fly a kite. I'm in the customer service business, and I've never been treated so poorly. The CWE needs a bar like Rosie's (i.e., a comfortable, hole-in-the-wall sorta place, where you can kick your feet up and relax). Unfortunately, Rosie's isn't that bar. I recently had a negative experience there and won't be going back. My friend and I were at Rosie's on a Sunday, watching football. Shortly after we arrived, a drunk woman who'd been at the bar for a few drinks walked over to our table and told us that "chairs are not ottomans" and that we needed to put our feet on the floor. These are cheap, uncomfortable chairs. This is a dive bar. My friend and I attempt to laugh it off as being a pretty silly request, but the woman wasn't having anything of it. She then began asking us if we "knew who she was." She began to raise her angrily voice, and gestured to the bartender that we were to be cut off (we'd only had one drink). She was, apparently, "Rosie," and she does not like it when people put their feet on the chairs. We left the bar immediately, and took our business elsewhere. If she'd been friendly, introduced herself, etc, we would have obliged with apology. But her condescending tone belied the idea of a dive like Rosie's. As we were leaving, a few of the regulars at the table next to ours pulled us aside and said, "don't worry about it, we've all had an experience like that." There's in fact another Yelp review recounting a negative experience with "Rosie." There are other bars in the CWE. Go to any of them instead. I'm sure Rosie won't miss my business, and I hope her cheap chairs last a lifetime. read more

What I'm about to tell you is a very very very sad story. Ok breathe, here we go! I went to Rosie's on my last night in town with 4 work buds. It was my last chance to get my favorite cheap beer, STAG! (I can't get it in Iowa) And it was not on the menu in our fancy hotel bar. We looked on Yelp to see what was in walking distance and we found Rosie's! A quaint divey bar with a smiling bartender, lots of folks on high tops and low top tables, and a very welcoming crowd. I made my entire group get Stags, from the tender and we talked to a couple locals! One of them was really wanting to talk to us and had just put in about 10 dollars into the touch tunes juke box! Our group was already having a rough night with the Touch Tunes having one malfunction on us earlier in the evening, making us huddle around an I-phone in a cup. (ps that trick does not work). I looked over at the local to see what he was choosing it looked like great soul music selections, so I made a comment to him! And he said do you want to pick the rest? WHAT? I said, and he said Yes pick the rest! So I had 15 credits for songs! This is like finding a pot of Gold on St. Paddy's day, Ps did I mention it was St. Paddy's day, and I just got Lucky enough to Dj the night out at Rosie's on this Juke box.. I made my selections and waited for them to start playing, by which time the guy who gave me the credits started being a little to friendly to our group so we had to bail, before any of the tunes started.. I was so sad, but happy to know that when I left the bar was going to get hoppy with some... SADE, Wilson Pickett, Van Morrison, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Aretha, Bruce, Dylan, Jackson 5, Thin Lizzy, and more! This place was a little crazy. The locals hanging out here were super friendly (perhaps a little too friendly, if you know what I mean). Drinks were cheap and the jukebox was pumping. The big news was that the bar was on its second day of existing in a brave new world of being smoke-free. You could tell, as the smell of stale smoke still lingered in the air, seeping out of the woodwork. But no one seemed to be complaining. Rosie's is tiny--it can hold maybe 25 people comfortably. The crowd was a mix of 20-somethings all the way up to the drunk old guy face-plant-asleep at the bar. He must be a regular, as the bartender just let him sleep it off. Nice. read more

What a terrific neighborhood bar! It's like cheers where everybody knows your name. I went there a couple of times the drinks are heavy pour and inexpensive. A non-pretentious place, gotta love it. Dress down or dress up, bring a few friends or go solo. Rosie's Place is very welcoming. All Creeds, colors, classes! They may be a hole in the wall but it's an awesome hole in the wall! THIS IS A GREAT BAR!......If you are a middle-aged single man on the verge of homelessness. In reality, I don't exactly know why I found myself at this bar, but I know I regretted ever being there. This place is the epitome of "dive bar". The regular crowd of fragrant drunks is unappealing and actually disgusting. Looking for dead bar scene on a Saturday....they have it! Looking for a dart board with broken darts or a beer selection highlighted by Bud Light....yeah, you will find that stuff too. This may be one of the worst bars I have ever been to. But hey, what do I know. If I was 50+ and on my 3rd divorce this place may rock. Maybe even if was an anal 20-something who smokes to look cool and wears tighty-whities I may like it. BUT, since I am not, it is really not a good place. I think I would rather sit at my house by myself drinking warm Banker's Club Vodka while getting beat by a midget than go to this place again. I come from a friendly place but I have never had so many strangers talk to me in a bar than Rosie's. This is definitely a place where regulars congregate and know that you're new and maybe interesting (mostly in the way of they haven't heard your stories 53 times already). After confirming that I'm not a medical student and giving out some free business advice I was able to have a nice conversation with the wonderful pals I came in with. There's a digital jukebox, it's dimly lit, and the beers are cheap. I was treated to the local dive beer, Stag, and it was about what you'd expect from the makers of Old Style and PBR. I'm not sure if people were actually smoking in the bar, but I'm 100% positive that people did smoke in the bar at some point. It just had that haze about it. If the CWE is not your scene in general, Rosie's just might be your place. read more

I stopped in on my way to a different bar mostly because I parked right in front of it. There was a sticker on the door the designated it having won an award for cheapest drinks. I couldn't go wrong. I've used the TV bar Cheers as an example before, but this really is the real deal. I'm not so sure I felt completely comfortable in the bar, but that was probably due to it being a Tuesday night. I went in with just one other friend to join about 5 other regulars inside. I got the feeling that most people in this bar knew each other very well and were surprised to see an outsider. I didn't get anything special, just a bud light. But as I sipped (quickly because I didn't want to overstay my welcome), I realized that I should come back with more people and on a less obscure night. I really wanted to play darts, but it was already very awkward, so we left. read more

I love Rosie's, so don't take the "dive bar" label as a negative. It's right across the street from Taste, so if you want cocktails incredibly well-prepared and pricey, head there. If you want a beer and low key bar food for cheap (along with cigarette smoke and kino), head to Rosies. Nothing too special about Rosies. The crowds are always chill, the bartenders are always friendly, and the beer is usually cold. What more could you ask for? Just be aware this is one of the few smoking bars left in the city, so if that's not your bag, beware. read more

As some of you know, I'm a dive bar fan. Nothing is better than sharing a story and drink with a the working man. The best dive bar in all of STL is probably J&As in the CWE. I've been to countless dive bars since then and none of them really stack up. However, a good runner up can be found just down the block. Rosie's Place offers super cheap drinks, a solid pour, plenty of locals, smoking allowed, to-go flasks and a juke box. And it's right across the street from one of the most solid upscale restaraunts in town, Taste. For a fun time and some awesome food, I highly recomment going to Rosie's place... then leave and grab a table at Taste. read more

Eventually all CWE bars start to look alike in terms of music, residents, bar staff and prices. Every now and then I like to break the monotony of the Bar Louie/Drunken Fish rotation. How can I "leave" the CWE without leaving the CWE? Rosie's. Everything you recognize from your regular Friday night out will be swapped for something different. Corporate decor is swapped for whatever Rosie's owner(s) had accumulated over the decades, Top 20 on repeat will be swapped for a jukebox, pricey pints will be swapped for cheap pitchers, your busty server will be swapped for a burly bartender, and your standard night out will be swapped for a more memorable experience. read more

LOVE THIS BAR!!! Small town hospitality at its best in the middle of the city. Shannon is awesome. This is our second time here and he started fixing our drinks as soon as we walked in the door without us even needing to order. Just like in the small town I used to live where they knew everyone. I have lived close to here for a little over three months. I walk by here almost every day to and from work. My only regret is I haven't stopped in sooner. No happy hour because they don't need one. Rosie's is one of two bars that my husband and I frequent, either together or separately. I happen to love dive bars and infinitely prefer them to the standard fare of boring bars that have all but taken over the CWE. There's always someone to talk with. And oh my, the conversations you can have! Endless variety. The bartenders are great and know how to pour a drink. Paulie and Shannon are my favorites. They're both rather burly men, and can converse on virtually any subject you might care to discuss. Paulie's never without an off-color joke or a smart-assed remark and he can make you laugh, shake your head, and grin ear to ear. Shannon is muscled and gorgeous, and there's so much more to him than meets the eye. He's a love. A big teddy bear. There are always regulars, but newcomers can expect to be welcomed into the fold. Introduce yourself to the bartender. Shoot, introduce yourself to anyone! You'll be happy you did. And you'll be happy you decided to walk in. It's unique and maintains its neighborhood feel and appeal, with simple decor, a great jukebox, good drinks, and offers a very comfortable, easy-going atmosphere. I highly recommend Rosie's Place to anyone who enjoys a "real" bar. Come on in. I'll probably be there to say hello.
