We saw Weird Al last night here. After standing in line for 30 minutes and getting to the front, then then tell you it's the VIP line. No signs, no employees directing people. Multiple groups besides mine were turned away and told to go find general admission with no direction. After finally entering the theater, this place is old and dirty and in need of a massive upgrade. The concessions pricing is worse that a baseball game as well. Now lets talk about the seats. They are very old, very small and have no leg room. Everytime someone needs to get in or out, the entire row has to stand up. This is very inconvenient during a show. The sound quality was horrible. The only positive experience was the view from the Balcony seating was clear and the stage was fully visible. Safe to say, I will never return to this dump again. read more

Nice smaller venue. So our seats were great. Staff was on point. So Polite. Only thing is there was no where to park ! We parked so far away in a residential neighborhood. We didn't feel like it was the safest thing to do but we had no option. The venue is downtown Riverside and there were multiple events going on in the area. In the future I'd definitely check to see what's happening in the vicinity and plan accordingly. read more

Came here to specifically see Matt Rife and dang were tickets hella expensive compared to the venue it was held at. It was at the corner of a busy intersection which gave me LA vibes, plenty of parking structures to choose from, luckily we parked right out front in the 20 minute spots with my husband's DV plates. The theater itself gave me old opera house vibes, it was clean enough, seats were tiny and cramped and you have to uncomfortably share a tiny arm rest with your stranger neighbor which was a totally crappy old movie theater experience. This place was definitely not worth the price of the tickets nor where our seats were placed. Ticketmaster showed it to be so much closer to the stage, but I guess you gotta jam as many seats in there as possible to make that money. read more

Well. I don't like leaving negative reviews but my experience with this venue was not great. Bought tickets online and knew from the moment there was no 'print out your ticket' option that this was not going to be fun. Figured i could just have the email pulled up or screenshot the barcode but nope. My phone has terrible service (my bad I guess??) and often just won't work without wifi, and the venue itself does not offer wifi, which I feel is not a great idea if you're going to only sell tickets that require internet access to scan. So I had to park and walk 30~ minutes away to find a coffee place that had free wi-fi I could connect to so I could load the webpage and bring up my ticket. Walked back to the venue and prayed the screen wouldn't freeze or reload and managed to get my ticket scanned. Already a headache but after getting inside (beyond any wifi access for me) my phone did reload the page and froze and I couldn't check my seat #. So I have to explain to the poor employees that I don't know where I'm supposed to be seated (vaguely remembered the section #) and I can't pull up the information anymore. Massively embarrassing. Ended up just sitting in the back hoping no one would ask me to move. Loved the show but spent half the time thinking about the hassle of getting inside and wondering if I could move closer to where I thought my seat actually was with a better view. I am never coming back here. If you have phone problems or don't have a phone you are out of luck. I hate leaving things on a bad note so other than the ticket issues, the decor is nice inside. The bathrooms were pretty clean, which I really appreciate. The staff was professional and quick about getting people in and out of the building. The seating was comfortable even if the sound quality was a little lacking but again I was sitting in the back of the theater. Just wish things had gone better, I was really looking forward to this show :( read more

Awesome location! Easy to get to, great parking and nice food court right next to theatre. Excellent view of performance stage-there are literally no bad seats!!! Unfortunately downside in getting into venue only 2 entrances, so long wait line to enter and go through security and then long congested lines for drinks...definitely lots of room for improvements. read more

Saw "South Pacific" here. Great venue inside. Outside a little scratchy as downtown Riverside gets a makeover. Sound is great. Seats are comfortable. Not a bad seat in the house--this I discovered after paying an extra $50 for "Orchestra" section. DON'T BOTHER. Lobby is a little small but it will do for our little town. Concessions...well, difficult. Only thing I could eat was a pretzel and they had no mustard. I don't think the venue felt they should try to feed this group anyway, or try to get them boozed up, no one seemed to want any of that. read more

WORST VENUE EXPERIENCE EVER!! Won't go back. Pros: nice venue, clean, lots of bathrooms, comfortable seats. Staff were pleasant once we got in. Good location, restaurants nearby. Cons: VERY DISORGANIZED ENTRY "SYSTEM". There is no signage about where the entrance is. Tickets said 6:30 so we got there at 6-doors didn't open until 6:30! No wonder they couldn't get people in. Not enough people scanning and no ADA sign for that line. No sign for fast pass line. SLOW SLOW SLOW. Some lady came out and started screaming that people (who'd been standing in line for an hour) were in the "wrong line" and had to go to a different, longer line and wait again. When we finally got in, people were sitting on the floor and on the stairs. There were no seats and, unlike most venues, the doors didn't open to the theater until after 7. Elderly people were having a hard time after standing in line so long and then not being allowed to sit down. Many people didn't get in until the program had started. The auditorium was only about 1/2-2/3 full. Don't know how they handle a full house. Not even a small program, only a $25 one. IF YOU ARE ELDERLY/Handicapped, ask for the ADA line. Or better yet, go somewhere else. One star rating is because the entry experience was so horrendous and disturbing it affected our enjoyment of the show. read more

SOUND GUY SUCKS! We came tonight to see KKs Priest. Waited 20 years to. Everything was superb except the SOUND GUY. He has the highs too high and keeps changing the levels according to whatever he feels like. We have seats in Orchestra and it's way loud and our ears are ringing. Our friends have balcony and it's even worse up there. I used to live in Riverside and had frequent Fox Theatre and never had a bad experience. Other than that everything was amazing. The staff and bartenders, the ushers, security. The bathrooms were clean. That's why I still gave a good star rating. Pro tip. Train or fire the sound guy. Thanx a bunch in advance. read more

Very nice venue and theres no bad seats in the house. The acoustics are pretty good. We sat in the balcony middle. Located a block from the famous Mission Inn. Right next door is the Food Lab, very cool place with lots of choices for food and drinks. Good to come early and eat some Creole food, BBQ or Ramen etc. Parking is available behind the Fox for $10 or street parking if you can it. Security is crazy good with purse search and wanding. Bathrooms were clean and multiple locations. Drinks are reasonable, food not sure about we didnt purchase any. All staff was very friendly. The Fox has been around since 1929, quite historic and so many big names and shows have been through here. We came tonight to see Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers. A great blues band and a favorite of mine. We'll have to be on the watch for upcoming shows. I liked the Fox and will definitely be returning. read more

It's a great place to catch your favorite artists on their way up before they become too huge to see up close. It has an ambiance similar to the Beacon Theater in New York and the House of Blue in Dallas. It's a full bar, intimate enough to get close if you push through to the front or sides, and big enough to rock hardcore without feeling squished. The center of everything. You can get some food and/or drinks right before or after the show, and everything is within walking distance. The workers were friendly and respectful. I'm down to go to any concert that happens here!! read more

We had a great time at the fox theater in riverside! Ali Wong once again proved to be magnetic! I've only seen her Netflix specials and it would always make my gut hurt from laughing so hard. She really is very talented and has a natural knack for comedy and show biz! I highly recommend anyone who's a fan of hers to see her live on tour cos it's worth it. Just be warned she's a little out there and can be explicit at times but it's all in good fun! Two big thumbs up!! read more

Arrived early so we took advantage of the time and grabbed a bite to eat next door at the Food Lab. Glad we did since prices are super inflated at these types of venues. Had tickets to a show tonight. My tickets said the show started at 7. I went downtown had dinner and walked over to the theater at 6:30 to find a line the length of the theater of patrons waiting to be admitted. Come to fi d out, the show didn't start until 8. The doors opened at 7 and once you went through security you had another wait because the auditorium didn't open u til 7:30. When staff was questioned, they said it was their solution to patrons showing g up late. I'm calling BS. If I'm told the show starts at a particular time I'm going to be there 30 minutes early. If you can't get there on time, then you wait in the lobby until staff can safely and without interrupting the show get you to your seat. Definitely going to have reconsider future shows at the venue. read more

They make wait times in line unbearable so that people will buy "fast passes." They have reduced staff and now charge people more money to make up for the inconvenience. Got the chance to see Evita at the Fox Performing Arts Center... 3 stars! Definitely love the old-time theater charm and decor that the Fox offers. Seeing a show at the Fox makes you feel nostalgic for the old majestic theater venues. Built in 1929, the theater features the Spanish Colonial Revival style throughout. It's definitely a treat seeing all the intricate details of the interior right before the show. The Fox is not too small, not too big... the size is actually just right... really intimate and cozy. Sat in the Orchestra Right section, Row K. I chose Row K because there's actually a step between Row J and K, which meant not having to stare at someone's back of the head! If this row is not available, all other rows should offer a pretty good view of the stage given the cozy size of the theater. Why just 3 stars? The sound system inside the Fox could have been way better! According to the theater website, the Fox went through major renovations from 2007 to 2010, but no mention of sound system renovation. Love the musical Evita, but I found some of the songs and dialogue by the cast members not at all crystal clear and hard to decipher at times. As a bonus, however, there's no charge for parking! Park at the City of Riverside parking structure at the northwest corner of Mission Inn Avenue and Market Street. This parking structure is right across the street from the theater. Finally, it's quite a trek from the San Gabriel Valley to Riverside. It took almost two hours to get to the venue, so make sure to plan for traffic. Arrived with an hour to spare before the show so got the chance to get a yummy dinner at the nearby Old Spaghetti Factory. The show ended at around 10:30 pm so the trek back wasn't too bad, just 40 minutes or so to get back home. Definitely will be back depending on the show... Let me tell you about this theatre. First off, all the workers and security got a stick up their a**. First off, this is my first visit and I am not aware of the very strict policies for outside water bottles. I was there for an all day pass to watch a body building competition. I was dropped off as I did not have a car. On top of that I was by myself as my BF had a backstage coach pass. He had to direct his client before the show began. I brought my Stanley as I was going to be there all day. The lady at the bag check was so rude and not realistic of bringing in my Stanley. She insisted I either have a hotel hold it for me, or bring it back to my car. I made everyone aware I was dropped off and by myself. She then insisted on throwing it in the trash. Ummm, you are going to make me throw it away?!?? Her attitude and tone was very appalling. She then said "well you can talk to her"? I was assuming it was her supervisor or something. I then told the "supervisor" "I am going to tell you what I just told her". I told them I will not throw it away, I don't have a car, and I am not going to walk to a "hotel" and have them hold it for me. I insisted that they should hold it for me as I was not aware of the strict policy of Stanley's. She then gave me attitude and decided I would just leave by outside concession stand. I am not upset about the water bottle policy. I am upset of the unrealistic expectations they have, and unkindness of guests they are paying for decent service. I work in hospitality and they all need to be trained to treat people better. For this theatre to be an old soul I would have expected better hospitality skills. Whoever is the head managers, you need to retrain your team. All your hospitality suck and/or lack luster. This is heads up for FAMILIES!!!! If you plan on watching a show here I would consider not bringing in young babies as you are not allowed to re-enter. Strollers access is not accessible, as the seating areas in the balcony and orchestra and small. I know for moms you will need to bring a water bottle with distilled water to prep milk, bring a very small one (I GUESS). This theatre is not family friendly. read more

Nice Venue/Theater is well maintained and staff are friendly and helpful. My only problem is they do not let you bring any water from outside. If you bring any food or drinks they will make you throw them away! The set-up is nice seats are pretty comfortable. We were is S section with seats 101-104. Seats were close enough without being to close or to far away they were Perfect! Now on to the food/drinks and gifts. All were overpriced big time! Small bottle of water 5 bucks, small popcorn 5 bucks, candy bars 3 bucks. The popcorn is old and cold. Candy bars are the ones you can get for a buck at the store. The water are the water bottles you can get a 24pack for 3 bucks. So not worth it at all. Felt ripped off after buying 4 waters a popcorn and 2 candy bars. The gift shop part is even worse! Nutcracker themed gifts like ordiments, nutcrackers, stuff animals and a few more all ranging from 15 bucks for a small ordiment then the rest of them were 20 buck and above. The nutcrackers started at 50 bucks. The only thing under 15 bucks were 5 dollar wands that were cheaply made. A lot of the stuff was nice but not worth the price! Overall a great production I just took off one star for the price gouging. The Nutcracker by Inland pacific ballet was beautiful:) Such a great performance with such amazing back drops and costumes! Beautifully composed and such a treat to watch. Me my Twins and youngest son loved it! Overall a great experience we just know to drink and eat before we go. read more

This was my first time to the Fox Performing Arts Center. Parking wasnt too bad. It was readily available and close by. our tickets clearly said that "Hairspray" started at 7 pm. However, when we got there at 6:30 pm, we were told that the show started at 8 pm. I dont know if thats ticketmasters fault or the venue but either way, performance start time should be made VERY clear to any patrons. Strike 1 When finally entering the venue, our purses were searched and we had to pass the metal detectors. My water bottle was confiscated. At the time, i didnt mind because i figured there would be water fountains or free water available inside. Imagine my complete and utter surprise at intermission when we were told that no water fountains were available and that water cost $6. Theres a law that states that movie theaters need to provide free water to patrons. Not sure why that wouldnt apply to performing theaters as well. We spent more 2+ hours at a location without any water. Strike 2. The actual performance started at about 8:25 pm instead of the "official" (but not printed on our tickets correctly) time of 8:00. Unsure if this is due to the venue or to the actual performing company but again it's completely unprofessional. Strike 3. Overall, while the venue has a good ambiance and seating is spacious, im not sure I would return because of the above outlined negatives. We will have to see. Sad that such a cool venue thats close by and has so much potential let us down quite harshly. read more

Cons: Purse Nazi out front had an attitude. Several elderly ladies were turned away due to their purses exceeding the tiny clutch size. I asked what they should do if they were dropped off - she rolled her eyes and shrugged her shoulders (real classy!) The website needs work. No information is provided about availability of refreshments (there were multiple small bars on the main floor and 2nd level). Side note: if you were dropped off and have no place to leave your purse, the Mission Inn Bell desk may be an option - it's worth the walk to ask. read more

Purple Madness was the event I came to see. It was my first time there and such an easy experience locating parking (not free) and found the entrance to the FPAC with ease. No long lines for my event as mentioned in other reviews. Doors opened 1 hour before event. The staff was helpful and I seen them all around assisting others. I was walked to my seat by an usher. I noticed they served alcoholic beverages. Not sure what else they sold. They do have a set of rules on what can be bought inside such as wallets/small purses. No food or drinks. Pretty much like all other venues. They also have you go through a metal detector. Very pleasant experience. I do recommend. read more

Just watched last night to see "World of Dance". Parking was really easy to find, and regardless how packed it was, we still found space in the parking garage and it is free after 5pm. All the workers were very nice and patient. We walked inside after being checked by Security and inside was really nice, I felt as if I was coming in back in days. Our Seat Was T 18/20 not bad was neither to far or too near, just that if you have really tall people sitting in front of you it could be hard seeing so I had to squish my husband to see on his side. The air that was blowing throughout was great, usually when we go to theaters it gets really hot and chances to get sick but this room was great kept blowing nice air. The Music was great very loud and clear always want to jump out the seat and dance, not that I did lol. Dancers did a good job performing even though it's a small stage but it was really nice!! Came here for a comedy show and had never been before. It was a great space and could accommodate a lot of people. For how many people were there at this sold out show, staff was very efficient in getting everyone in quickly as well as pushing out drinks fast. The only thing that was annoying was the line went all the way to about the 3rd floor of the parking lot on the same block so it was a far way to walk around and then be around cars. read more

I attended a Comedy Show, not a concert on 2/22/2020. I'd give this venue 4.25 stars for a comedy show if they had handicap parking near the entrance and one of our seats didn't have what my friend said appeared to be dried gum (we didn't mess with it to confirm). I went with a friend who has foot pain when she walks. She has a handicap placard but I could not find handicap parking near the entrance. We lucked out and found street parking across the street. The venue was built in 1929 according to what I've read. It's a beautiful building. Days before the event, I received an email informing visitors about local parking options, notifying us about security, (bags or purses would be inspected) and the doors would open at 7:00 PM. We arrived hours early to get something to eat, find parking and get in line before the doors opened. By doing so, we were able to get a drink, use the bathroom and find our seats without rushing. If I'm not mistaken my mixed drink cost $13.00. My friend paid. I'm basing the price on what I saw listed. The staff was nice, the venue was mostly clean as was the ladies bathroom. read more

Build in 1929, the Fox Theater has a long history as a successful movie and vaudeville house. Many famous performers have graced its stage throughout the years, including Bing Crosby and Judy Garland. What a great little theater! It reminded me of a smaller Pasadena Playhouse, with its no-bad-seats setup to its cool throwback architecture. I was fortunate to score four tickets to The Nutcracker (Thanks, Yelp!) so my wife and I took my parents to see our first ballet together. Admittedly, the first act ran a bit long for me, but after intermission the show was amazing. I now have a better appreciation for ballet and its incredible dancers. It was easy to get our tickets from will call and the security line moved quickly. Concessions lines were long, but all of the employees we encountered were friendly and professional. I'm knocking off a star only because of the slightly uncomfortable seating, which isn't the theater's fault due to its age: the lack of stadium-style seating and narrow rows can be a pain for shorter, taller, and all of the various body shapes that try to fit inside the chairs. There's a parking garage adjacent to the venue, with lots of nearby dining options as well so it makes for a great spot for a night out on the town. My wife has seen a few concerts at the Fox Performing Arts Center and always enjoyed herself and I'm looking forward to visiting again. read more

Beautiful venue that has been here for many years. I was privileged to receive Nutcracker tickets at Christmas time and the show was beautiful. Our Seating was middle and center. The theater has nostalgia and although its been around for along time, its doesn't seem dated or old. The restrooms are roomy and clean. I would recommend coming here to see a show anytime. The ticket times for the theatre are never correct. Typically, they'll have the show listed as an hour earlier than the actual start time. Further, they won't let you in until the time on the ticket. Doors will not open at all until about half an hour before the show. I brought a couple of senior citizens who have difficulty standing to a show a couple of weeks ago, and there was nowhere to sit whilst waiting. The amount of people inside the theatre waiting to get in the doors led to some pushing/jostling, which makes it more difficult for those who already have difficulty being steady on their feet. read more
