The grow out is unnoticeable [but I will be returning as soon as this -ridiculous- heat wave is gone], and my highlights look like I swanned about in the sun like a movie star and BAM! My cut was deceptively simple BUT....since then, i have not had a bad hair day.Not even once. Not even without styling. Not even when wet and out the door. Judy and her sister Candace are awesome. It's just the two of them in a small salon with two chairs and one sink, but they are wonderful to have a conversation with and they make you feel welcome. I have curly hair and I'm always nervous when going to a new stylist about the right cut for my hair so it's not poufy, and Judy knew exactly what I was talking about before I finished my sentence. No other hairstylist I have gone to has really understood my concerns on the first go around. I also got my hair colored and she was great about that too. She really listened to me and my concerns about the color and I am so happy with the finished product. I will definitely be coming back here again. *Also, I came in with a groupon. They were totally cool about it and they don't treat you like you're any less important of a customer because of it (whereas some places I have bought groupons for get rude when you mention a groupon). read more

Hair stylists that mesh well with you are hard to find. And since my former stylist had moved across country, I'd put off finding a new one for some time. So I suffered with hideous hair, trimming my split ends myself as necessary. Just this week I visited Foxtail for my first time. I was a bit nervous, but more of an excited nervous because despite all the salons I'd been referred to by friends or read about on Yelp, this was the *only* one that gave me feel-good vibes. Angela did an incredible job with my lack-luster mop. The choclate-ly color she selected is perfect, it complements my skin and eyes like nothing else has. She gave me a versatile cut after asking questions on my styling habits/preferences. I have never been so pleased with my hair! As for the atmosphere, it's tiny and cute, but with lots of windows that open it up. All 3 stylists are friendly and obviously pros: there's no awkward tension and they seem to all help each other out. read more

My old hair stylist left Phoenix last year, and I had bounced around to a few different salons before giving up. With a new job starting, I knew it was time for me to get my hair cut again. I turned to Yelp to try to find a salon in Tempe, and decided to give Foxtail a try! I called and didn't receive a return call, so I texted instead and heard back almost immediately. I went in this morning to see Candace, and found an inexpensive metered spot next door. The salon, on the first floor of the W2 building, is small and intimate. Candace put on some good music (thank you!) and started to rehab my sad, crunchy hair. She was efficient, friendly, and down to earth. I love my haircut and the affordability compared to other salons! I will definitely be back, and will be telling my friends about Foxtail, too. read more

Love my haircut and highlights from Jude! I've been looking for a good salon for a while and I think I finally found it. Foxtail is a small salon - 3 chairs - and felt like an old school beauty parlor in a way. Not because they were old fashioned or anything but because everyone talked to everyone, at one point even a friend of theirs stopped in and joined the conversation. I'm used to just talking to my stylist so this was a fun change of pace. And Jude did a great job on my hair. I got a cut and partial highlights. The highlights turned out great, just the right color and it looks very natural. The cut is cute and easy to manage. I felt like she listened to what I wanted and delivered great results. The only downside is the parking. Parking in downtown Tempe is not great and now that the big surface lot in front is closed the only options are meters or the garage. If you're getting color I would not recommend meters as I was there over two hours - the meter limit. But that's not their fault so I will definitely be going back! read more

So I managed to get my a** to my local Walmart and picked up the recommended shampoo and conditioner which was Loreal Sulphate-Free and depending of course on what you like (me: Smooth and Sleek) you pick out from that line. Keep in mind, this was a recommendation from Angela, as I had lamented to her about the sorry state of my hair due to the dryness of Arizona weather. Can you say winner, winner? My hair has never been this manageable, and I have never been this unfrizzy when I wake up in the mornings. Woohoo!! I am a bit late in my review, but it doesn't matter! I bought a groupon and scheduled an appointment back in October of 2013. The Groupon was an amazing deal: $59 for deep conditioning, partial highlights, haircut and style! The place is at the bottom (first floor) of the W-6 towers with many salons there! The general area looked very nice and upscale. Their salon also looked super nice and yet very simple and small! Jude did my hair, she is one of the 2 owners/stylists! She was very sweet, understanding and really listened to what I wanted! She also offered me advice (which I very much needed) regarding which color of highlights to go with! She seemed like a dedicated very hardworking woman and I really respected that! Oh by the way, they honored my Groupon and were very nice to me regardless! (Haven't we all had that business owner that almost doesn't respect you if you walk in there with a Groupon?? Yep!! This one is not it, thank God) At the time, they had timing/scheduling issues, but that's only because they were overwhelmed with a gazillion Groupon customers. Nonetheless they were very apologetic about it! I loved my time there, and definitely love the result! I would love to give them another shot and just get a haircut next time! On another note, parking now somewhat sucks because that huge lot right in front of them is closed! However, there is a parking garage very close to them! All in all, a great place! I think they are very good at what they do, and they are very personable!! read more

I followed Jude here from her Glendale salon and highly recommend this shop her and her sister recently opened. They are professionally trained superior stylists and great color artists. I know Jude has worked at Rolf's, Toni and Guy...just to name a few. She has been doing my hair for years, I made the mistake of leaving her once to let my best friends sister take over my hair, she did an alright job but inevitably I missed Jude's professionalism. One of the things I really appreciate about her is how she educates me about my hair and gives me tips and tricks to get the results I want when styling at home or keeping my color fresh. Moved here recently and very glad I found this salon! This is not a big fancy expensive spa like salon. It's a cute, small place. Jude does an excellent job. I want my color to look natural and I have been very happy with the results. I have fine thin hair and she knows how to cut it to lay right and look as full as possible. OMG. I've been searching for a hairstylist for 6 YEARS after moving to Arizona, and I think I may have finally found her! Candace did my hair today, and I am amazed because she got the color, cut, AND bangs just right! That almost never happens! I wanted my hair to be a dark brown with some color in it and she did a great job. It's dark, but it's not just dark brown. It's got some warmth, especially in the sun. Didn't get any dye on my face either. For the cut, I'm trying to grow my hair, so she trimmed my layers, and I'm pleased to say I still have most of the length. I get my bangs cut diagonally to the side and most hairstylists make them too square, but Candace cut them just right with like the first stroke of scissors. I was really surprised. Overall, everything is JUST the way I wanted. It's a small, cute salon close to Mill Ave and since there are only 3 stylists working there, it feels personal and cozy. They were definitely very nice and easy to talk to. No awkward forced small talk. I am really happy and am currently recommending this place to my friends! :) read more

What to say about Foxtails? You are going to a salon so it's not going to be $8 for someone fresh out of an 8 hour seminar, and what a difference that makes. A great example: I've been getting some haircuts I'd been happy with and recently Jude made a recommendation on a different style when I said I wanted to go shorter than I'd been getting it cut. It was really short, almost shorter than I think we talked about, but now a week later it's coming in really well, just as she assured me. Also, I did some color late last summer and despite the blonding up of my light brown hair, I didn't look like a complete D Bag. Which is fine line to walk when blonding up the hair for the summer. Jude is fun and so is her sister Candy. They were playing some music the other day and when Elliot Smith came on and reminded me of my Ex, since she really is just Somebody That I Used To Know, they kindly changed it. Definitely going to be returning to Foxtails, but probably not for more than a month. The cuts I get grow out really well, better than those Super/Great Haircuts. Hurray! read more

I love Judith at Foxtail Salon. I really am not a fan of obligatory chatter when getting my hairs cut, but Judith is interesting, funny, intelligent, warm and friendly, and I enjoyed my time at this salon. All this and she is also great hair stylist. She made my hair super soft, pretty and cute and smell good for a reeeeeeally good price. The salon is easily accessible, small, bright, fashionable, cute and clean. You do have to pay to park though if you park in the lot infront of the salon. I am moving out of the state soon and sad I can't take Judith with me! read more

I went in for a cut and an all-over color with Candace, which was a groupon I purchased awhile back. Oh my gosh she did and absolutely PERFECT job! I went from very long, scraggly, dry and faded hair to a short sassy bob with bangs and beautiful chocolate brown brunette with a hint of red. Candace understood exactly what I wanted and did so well with the cut and color. On top of that she is super friendly and the salon is really cute! I got to chat with her sister a bit and see her working on a client and I got the impression Jude is just as good. I've lived in Arizona for 3 years, and every time I find a hairstylist I like, they up and move on me. So, when I found a Groupon for Foxtail and all the glowing reviews, I decided to call them up. Enter Angela. First off, she really did a fantastic job on my cut and style. It looked swingy and shiny and exactly what I want my hair to look like when I leave the salon. And once I was in the chair, she was friendly, but not too friendly, offering me a cookie, and chatty, but not annoyingly so. Overall, a very nice, competent hairstylist. However, there were a couple of minor issues with the overall customer service. My appointment was at 10, which I guess was the first appointment of the day, because when I arrived to the salon a little early, it was all locked up. No big deal. There's a cute and comfortable waiting area. I waited around until about 10:03 before I called to find out where everybody was. Angela answered promptly and said she was just parking and would be right in. Okay. As she walked into the waiting area, she was on the phone with another client, which kind of irked me, but was understandable. I proceeded to wait around for 5 minutes before she even said hi. Now I'm a little irritated because it's 10 minutes after my haircut was supposed to begin, and my presence has barely been acknowledged. Once off the phone, she did apologize for the delay, and directed me to the chair. At this point, I still don't actually know her name, nor do I think she knows mine, as formal introductions never took place. She looked at the picture of the haircut I wanted, asked me a few questions, guided me to the shampoo chair, and went to work. Now, one of the things I love best about getting my hair done is the massage magic that takes place upon my head when I'm getting my hair shampooed. That magic didn't occur here. The other thing I love about getting my hair done is that once it's styled, I don't have to wash it for 4 days because it's been professionally washed and styled. In fact, the reason I was in the salon that day was because I was heading to New York for the weekend, and didn't want to bring any of my hair styling supplies with me. I have thick, curly hair that I usually straighten. When I blow dry my own hair, it usually lasts me about 3 days between shampoos. When I get it professionally done, I expect it to last a day or 2 longer, and it usually does. Unfortunately, by the end of day 2, it was starting to fall flat, and by the end of day 3, it was feeling pretty gross. I'm guessing the short-lived style was due to the lack of magical massage during the shampoo. Finally, once my haircut was all said and done, I walked out to my car only to realize that I had to pay for parking because I was 10 minutes over the first hour free mark. The 10 minutes at the beginning of my appointment that I wasn't in the chair. Granted, it was only $1, but still. Just one more minor annoyance to add to the list. So, for those of you who don't want to read the novel I've written, here's the wrap up: PROS: great haircut, cute salon, very nice hairstylist (Angela), Groupon-friendly, cookies! CONS: tardy stylist, subpar shampoo massage, lack of introduction, had to pay for parking due to stylist's tardiness Overall, I would probably go back again, because I did love the cut, and Angela was helpful and nice, but I would make sure I didn't need the style to last more than a day or 2. And I would definitely look for free parking. read more

Jude has been doing my hair for 4+ years and always does an amazing job!! I will NEVER go to anyone else! I am very particular about my blonde color, and she does the best blonde of any hairdresser I've ever had. She was able to nurse my hair back to health after a lot of previous color damage. My hair is the healthiest it's been thanks to her. Jude is always very reliable and willing to work with her clients. She has expansive knowledge and experience in her industry.
