I don't want to write this review because I don't want people to know about him and then he gets super busy and then it would be harder to schedule appointments. However, he is really good so he deserves this review! As a registered nurse who has worked in hospitals as well as outpatient clinics, I can say that he has to be one of the best doctors I have spoken with. He has the best bedside manner and is extremely knowledgable! We just finished our first visit with him and he was so patient, kind, and very understanding of what a first time mom is going through. I was contemplating on going to him or one of the bigger OB/GYN groups in Irvine and am so glad I opted in to have Dr. Chang be our OB for my first pregnancy. His front desk answers their phones really quickly so you know you'll be able to schedule an appointment very easily (I had called another very large OB office and didn't get a callback until 2 days later)! About ten days ago, my wife and I had our first baby. It was and still is a trying time as the world is dealing with COVID-19. Admittedly, we can not compare Dr. Chang to any other OB. Having said that, I cannot imagine that there are any obstetricians that are better than him. Could any be just as good? Possibly, but unlikely. Dr Chang treated my wife and I like we were his only patients. Yes, he even treated me like I was his patient. From the day we met him through the days after birth, he was attentive, patient, and compassionate. Our baby was born at 3:00 in the morning. When he walked in, he commanded the room. You could sense that all the nurses respected him and equally as important, genuinely liked him. I absolutely adore Dr Chang. He delivered my son via C-Section 5 weeks ago. I was trying for a Vbac, and Dr. Chang was incredibly supportive after my first was C-Section due to breech and I felt very forced into a C-section the first time around . Dr. Chang did everything in his power to give me the birth experience I wanted all the way up to delivery. My baby would not fit through my pelvis and there was nothing we could do ( he had a big noggin ... there was even a small cone shaped print where his head was trying to push through and wouldn't fit) , but Dr. Chang does everything in his power to give you the birth of your dreams. He is extremely thorough with his explanations and doesn't make you jump through hoops and assistants to reach him. He makes himself accessible to his patients . You are able to directly ask him a question any time you are worried or need to know something . I would 100% have my next baby with Dr. Chang. He even cut out my old C-Section scar so I only had to have one scar. He's the best. 100% . Sorry but I have to update this review for the wait time alone. Staff doesn't space out wait times well. I came in at 11am and the entire place was literally bursting. (My appointment was at 11am). Now it's 12:06, I'm still waiting, but the room is completely empty. Why didn't they just have me come in at 12???? That's an extra hour of work I need to make up, or an hour of PTO I need to take. This has happened before, and I thought maybe it was a one-off so I was willing to let it slide, but now I'm really not so sure. The last time I came they said he was held up at the hospital, but today...he just has too many patients booked for the same time. Dr. Chang is wonderful and I have no complaints at all, but the actual time management of patients leaves much to be desired. If you have the time though, there's no reason to go anywhere else. He is amazing. That's most likely why he's so busy! I suspect the majority of his patients don't have jobs, but for the ones that do and need to actually work, this probably isn't the place for you. Or, you need to figure out the busy times and avoid coming in then. They mentioned afternoons are less busy, so there's that at least to consider. read more

Best doctor hands down that I have ever had. I liked my last obgyn but Dr. Chang is AMAZING. He accepted me as a late patient during my last trimester due to unusual circumstances. Their staff was gracious and squeezed me in for a last minute appointment, which they did not have to do. I called St. Jude and explained our situation and they could have cared less. They told me their earliest appointment was two weeks from the day I called. Dr. Chang's staff was super nice and they asked Dr. Chang whether or not he would be able to see me as soon as possible. They went above and beyond to try to accommodate to our unusual situation. During the first appointment, their staff was super professional. We got the ultrasound done right in their office since they had they machines and the staff to do it. Unlike my old ob office, I had to schedule far out and also go to another location. This was super convenient. When we met Dr. Chang, he was so kind and patient. He graciously answered all our questions. I was amazed by how much time he took to assure us and provide us with all his expert information. I think the added touch was that he was easily accessible to his patients. At 1 a.m., I started having contractions and by 3 a.m. I contacted Dr. Chang. Even at 3 a.m., he was super patient and pleasant. He told me to go into the hospital and even said, congratulations! lol. At 3 a.m,., I am usually really grumpy and my brain is never functioning. What an excellent doctor, He saw me the next day twice where he came to check up on me. By afternoon, he again drove by from his office to deliver our baby. I can't believe that he makes such a big effort to deliver most of his patients' babies. He is like a super hero where he is like 20 people doing 20 different things. We are so appreciative to Dr. Chang for all his kindness and hard work. He is such a pro. My recovery was awesome. Something weird is going on. When you call the office number listed they say that he is no longer with the practice and they don't give a new number because they say he is no longer practicing at all. I don't know what star rating to give this because I'm torn between him no longer being at office in Irvine, and the office not giving me information to where he's practicing now, that's if he's still practicing; also, I'm very disappointed that the office in Irvine wouldn't let me schedule an appointment with one of their other OB/GYN doctor's-they informed me that unfortunately they weren't accepting new patients, even though I told the receptionist that I'm not a new patient because I've been going to there office for a 4yrs now and they have my file. Strange...Dr. Chang disappeared this exact same way from his DTLA location on flower st about 7 years ago. I had a miscarriage 7 yrs ago where development stopped at 10 weeks. I had to have a DNC procedure at 14 weeks when we found out there was no longer a heartbeat. 4 days after the procedure I ended up in urgent care. Shortly after my experience at [Avida Womens Clinic 810 S. Flower St. Suite 204], his entire office/practice closed and I later found out he was working in Irvine. I tried to call to get a followup appt in Irvine after explaining my situation, and they office/Dr. Chang never returned my calls (yes, tried to get appointments multiple times and it was like they were blocking me because I was a past patient) I went back into my yelp to remember the name of the doctor to give a conplete history to my new obgyn, I saw a few ofnthe current reviews saying the same thing has now happened in Irvine. SUSPECT. HIGHLY suspicious. THOUGHTS: 1) is he in witness protection and has to leave suddenly for his/His families safety or 2) is he avoiding some shady malpratice type actions?? Got me questioning my entire experience 7 yrs ago....like was their really no heartbeat...did I really need a DNC...did something go wrong during that procedure which landed me in urgent care shortly after and was a turning point in a landslide of menstural related complications and issues since then!?!? There is no better doctor than Dr. Chang. He is truly one in a million. I started seeing him earlier in the year when I became pregnant with my daughter. I always loved my visits with him because he always made it a point to spend a solid amount of time with me and always answered whatever questions I had. He always did a great job of thoroughly explaining everything and always encouraged me to ask whatever was on my mind. He was also always 100% on top of my care. During my pregnancy, I developed high blood pressure and he asked me to check in with him so he could monitor my levels and make sure I was ok. It's not often you can touch base with your doctor anytime, but I always could with Dr. Chang. Knowing he was so accessible because he cared so much, made me feel safe. When it came time to deliver, he was so encouraging and supportive. I had always pictured the doctor coming in at the last second, but he was there for the entire process, and he was truly a huge part of my comfort (in addition to my husband) during the process. In fact, several of our nurses commented about how Dr. Chang was one of the nicest OB's they knew. I've given a lot of thought to writing this review because I wanted to make sure I communicated to others all about what makes Dr. Chang the best. In addition to what I already outlined above, it's also worth noting that Dr. Chang offers the perfect balance of medical knowledge and patient care. Really wanted to like this place but wait is ridiculous. My obgyn started out okay but eventually became more rushed with time. Yea, he will answer all your questions but it's exactly that, answering questions. I think what's happening here is a case of a great doc taking on too many patients. There's just no way to provide the utmost quality care to each and every patient when it's always rush rush. At some point, someone suffers the consequence of that, .... the patient. At 8 weeks pregnant I went to another OB, I did not feel good about that experience and then discovered Dr Francis Chang. From the very beginning of my pregnancy journey at 10 weeks, Dr Chang was compassionate, knowledgeable, and a wonderful person to have as my OB as a first time mom to be. Dr. Chang delivered my first baby two years ago, and he's the BEST. I found out in January that I'm pregnant with my second, and when I called his Irvine office, the receptionist told me he's now working "at the hospital." I didn't really know what that meant, but my new OB's office told me he's now a laborist at Hoag Newport. Just FYI for the other moms wondering where he went. My husband and I went to Dr Chang from the moment I found out I was pregnant. I'd had a couple MCs and from day 1, Dr Chang was always accessible to me and my heightened concerns. Thankfully Baby Oliver was born at the end of April and even delivered during COVID, Dr Chang was very accommodating and compassionate. I think it's very rare for a Dr to have 5 stars on Yelp, so take that into consideration. I have been a patient of Dr. Chang's for 6.5 years. He delivered both of my children and has helped me through a few other issues since then. He is kind, an excellent listener and generous with his time. He's super smart but humble: He will consult with other doctors if there's a question he can't answer or you're asking about a treatment he wouldn't ordinarily recommend in a particular situation. Over the course of the past 40 weeks, in every single interaction, Dr. Chang has been respectful, knowledgeable, caring, and patient. Dr. Chang truly loves his job and I highly suggest using him. It's impossible to get an appt here, even though the staff always answers the phone. He also never calls back with results even though we made two follow up phone call appointments. Also when paying your co pay they only accept check! So old school, I gotten two bills from them two months even though I try to pay right after my visit and had to send them a check. I myself is a RN who have been practicing for 10+ years. I just graduated from another professional program, don't have a job yet, therefore no health insurance and no income. And, I am pregnant! I am eligible for medi-CAL, but it was not approved yet, and I really need a physician who would see me and make sure my baby is ok. I made thousands of calls, and no one would help me. I finally found Dr. Chang on Yelp, so I paid cash to see him (the cash price was very reasonable, and is cheaper than many physicians I called). Dr. Chang is originally from Taiwan but grow up in the U.S. He speaks multiple languages including Taiwanese, is VERY patient, and willing to spend a lot of time with me to explain things to me in details. His staff even apply an urgent Medi-CAL for me so that I can have insurance while waiting for my real Medi-CAL to be approved--Most of the doctor's office will not take time to do this for me. If you are looking for a GOOD physician with good BED SIDE MANNER who will not rash you out of the door, and is able to explain things in plain simple English to you, he is the one! Dr. Chang is hands-down the BEST doctor I have ever seen. I was very lucky to have him for my high risk second pregnancy. He is knowledgeable and his bedside manner is wonderful. He is calm, caring, funny, and he really takes his time with his patients.
