If I could, I would give this place zero stars... I found this place initially on Yelp and came to try their Steve's steak sandwich with chimichurri. My husband and I sat down to eat, place was dirty, tables unwiped and one man guy. Sandwich was good but chimichurri sauce wasn't the type you're used and it was super spicy. Today, I was in the area and my husband wanted a steak sandwich so I called in for an order. I wanted to order a diff item for myself so I asked him about his teriyaki chicken and chimichurri chicken but without the spice. The owner/same guy who picked up the phone was super rude and said teriyaki chicken on salad is gross and then told me to call back once I figured out my order. How rude!! As busy as you are, you should know better to know speak with your customer ever with that attitude and rudeness. If you actually read the low ratings, you will see this owner guy clearly has attitude issues and is clearly not suitable to be owning a restaurant. With the name The Grillery, I really didn't expect to see Asian food bowls on the menu. We expected a sandwich or burger restaurant and was thrown off by the bottles of soy sauce on the tables. We ordered the beef bulgulgi and the chicken teriyaki bowls. Portion sizes were good with a lot of meat with grilled vegetables over rice and came with sauces, a small side salad, and two gyozas. Though I wish there was a dipping sauce for the gyozas because they were a bit bland. The young lady who was working that day was very sweet. My work ordered us some food from The Grillery. I think this is the sister restaurant of Teriyaki Grill down in Chula Vista. Anyway, I ordered the Steve Steak Sandwich. That seems to be the go-to item to get. And now I know why. The Steve Steak Sandwich is delicious. The steak is cooked medium rare and the torta bread is toasted to perfection. I really like the chimichurri sauce. Its garlicky and fresh. I feel like if they added arugula or a spring mix, it would complete the sandwich. However, their signature dish (Steve's Steak Sandwich) is strictly Latin American, definitely not Asian in any way. It's honestly a strange menu. Also keep in mind they are only open during weekday lunch hours, and they will be busy due to the large company campuses in the area. Steve's Steak Sandwich - Flavorful, great texture, and a little spicy, the steak sandwich here is amazing. A nice helping of medium to medium rare steak, chimichurri sauce, and toasted torta buns make a great sandwich. It's a perfect size for lunch and comes with a side salad or fries. The sides are nothing too special but that's okay. Knucklehead Sandwich - Tastes pretty good, though there's something about the bulgolgi that doesn't taste right to me. It's also very messy with the sunnyside up egg inside, so it's not ideal for a work lunch. Banh Mi - They used to have Banh Mi, I don't see it on the online menu so maybe they stopped selling it. But anyway it was just okay, not the best Banh Mi in the area though, the local Pho shops offer better ones. Teriyaki Salmon Bowl - Pretty plain as a whole, but the teriyaki salmon tastes great. Simple, easy, and healthy lunch. Docked a star for service since their online ordering system feels old and slow, and sometimes when I've tried ordering it just bugs out and doesn't go through. Never eaten in the store so I can't speak for dine in experience, but also the cashier isn't the most welcoming or friendly usually when you walk in. Also limited hours. Overall a great option for lunch if you're in the area, but if you're from out of town it will be hard for you to find time to visit. read more

The chimichurri had plenty of fresh raw garlic and parsley. The torta bread was nicely toasted. I thought this was a great sandwich that was straight forward beef. No fillers, no extra veggies. Just beef, sauce, and delicious bread. ALPHA MEAL $10.75: - Hello pretty salad. This is a low carber's dream salad. The spring mix, sliced cucumbers, roasted veggies (broccoli, green beans, and pumpkin) was topped with the same USDA prime beef. The beef was the same tender medium rare. I asked for extra chimichurri sauce. I loved the freshness of the chimichurri but felt it could have used more salt or perhaps lemon. I tried both the jalapeno and ginger dressings for this salad. I've ordered this salad for take out as well. The owner was a fun fellow. He's a one man show here at The Grillery. I think he has one helper cook in back and one girl taking orders. First, has a sign on the door that says their POS is down. They proceeded to write in Piece of Shit on the sign. Second, my wife and I were waiting for our food and could hear the owner / cook talking shit about other customers that were waiting in the restaurant. Even after being called out, he continued to say that his food is so great that he didn't care what people think about what he says. I've got news for this Asshole; his food was not good at all. He couldn't even get the fries right. They were extremely undercooked to the point that half of them were raw and cold. I would compare the sandwich to a sandwich from a hospital vending machine. Placed on order for pickup and the app gave me a reasonable time within my lunch break so I proceeded. Then when I got to the place I noticed the time frame had changed which was no longer within my lunch break so I let the front cashier know if I could cancel because I did not have enough time from what the app was telling me and she spoke to the cook which said he could cancel. Then the cashier asked the cook how long it would take and he said 5 minutes so then they ended up keeping my order and I ended up waiting 5 minutes. Top it off with their Jalapeno Cream dressing...YUM!! It's no wonder I order it almost every week for lunch! They also serve this in a tapas form as well as in sandwich form. The steak is doused in a phenomenal chimichurri sauce with a ton of garlic that meshes well with the heat of the dressing. So. Damn. TASTY. I will never tire of this salad. I've eaten at super swanky places and this one blows them all away. Parking can be a pain during lunchtime so plan accordingly. Service is wonderful, go see my girl "Shar", she is the sweetest! I came in here borderline hangry, and I had just read some prior Yelp reviews that mentioned how good the Steve steak sandwich was... ...the girl behind the register welcomes me, asks me if it's my first time there, and recommends the Steve. What sorcery is this?! It's like she was psychically connected to my stomach. The Steve is one of the best steak sandwiches I've ever had. Period. It was cooked perfectly, and was pink in the middle (medium rare). This was surprising because usually you won't find the meat prepared like that - other places tend to overcook it. Not here. It was juicy, tender, flavorful, and a hint of chimichuri which is lightly spicy. Omg. I tried to savour it, but I inhaled it instead. It's very "simple" and relies on excellent quality meat and the chimichuri. The flavors really pop! It comes with a choice of fries or a side salad. I wanted sparkling water but they didn't have any. I ordered bottled water instead, and the girl behind the register told me that they have cucumber water for free if I preferred. Nice! Super rare to not get upsold... and highly appreciated. They made a loyal customer out of me! Exceptionally nice and helpful service. We just moved to California so just checking out local eats we ordered Steves steak sandwich and the teriyaki salmon and I'm assuming the owner is Steve knows what's up!! My husband raved about the sandwich and how delicious it is and how much he enjoyed it I stole a piece of steak and whatever sauce is on it is amazing with a mild kick just to keep it less boring. My teriyaki salmon was grilled to perfection and the teriyaki sauce isn't some crap you get but exactly how I imagine teriyaki should taste. The Grillery uses good fresh ingredients so why travel far if you live in Poway there is literally a gem in our neighborhood. I highly recommend and can't wait to try his other dishes ! I accidentally discovered this place while I was at the bank, meant to go to pork bowl and get some salmon, but accidentally walked into this shop. I tried their Teriyaki Salmon bowl and it is delicious. Similar price to Chili's but the quality is better. The amount Salmon is a fair size. It comes with rice and veggies. I heard that it is named after a health inspector from the owners' Chula Vista location, who had this dish when it was served over rice before it became a sandwich. He suggested that this sliced prime beef with chimichurri dish should be served on a torta. A tasty Steve Sandwich with a bit of a kick, but you can request a non-spicy version if you prefer the heat dialed down. My sandwich roll was pillowy soft and held up well to the hearty steak bites and ample serving of garlicky chimichurri. Choice of fries or side salad is included. The Steve was awesome! Very flavorful and tender medium rare beef with chimichurri on a toasted torta roll-simple and perfect. The fries were good too. Good quality and portion for a reasonable price. Would totally recommend this for lunch. It doesn't have much ambience (or AC) which is the only reason for 4 vs 5 stars. Also they serve orders in styrofoam even for eat in which is a bit wasteful. I've been hearing my friends rave about this sandwich for forever but never got a chance to try it since they're only open weekdays...until my manager gave me the day off on Friday! I knew this was my only chance to try it so I stopped by and order the Steve's Steak sandwich. When you get the sandwich, you're first impression may be of it's a "normal-size" sandwich, but it is packed with A LOT of meat in it. The meat was flavorful and was cooked to medium rare. The bun was also buttered and toasted to a slight crunch. (But it got a bit soggy at the end due to the sauce.) Thankfully I followed my friend's suggestion and got the salad as the side cuz it's a pretty heavy meal. Salad was ok, nothing notable about it. I can see why my friends rave about this place, and if I worked around this area, you would find me here every other week. But sadly, it'd take me 30min to drive here from my work so it's not worth the 1 hr commute. My only complaint would be that the bun is a bit oily to hold and it got a bit soggy at the end.
