If you're going to call yourself Cheese Haus, you need to own that title! Cheese Haus just sounded like a powerful name, and with that power came my expectation for cheese beyond my dreams... I did not find it. I found Cheese Haus to be pretty lacking in the cheese department. I feel like I can find 95% of those cheeses at my local grocer... the only two cheeses that peaked my interest were a twelve year old cheddar, which frightened me, and a bar of chocolate cheese, which also frightened me... So much cheese! They have tons of different types of cheese - blocks, spreads, dips, ect. and lots of samples. The chocolate cheese was good and I loved the blueberry cheese and the garlic spread I sampled (enough to get some). I also found Superman flavored fudge that was amazing! Yeah, it's got some really cheesy (in a crap sense) souvenirs in the store, but I'm just there for real cheesy goodness in the form of bricks of sharp Frankenmuth cheese, tasty combos like the havarti flecked with peppadew, and flavored cheese spreads. Oh, and the large mouse in the cheese wedge out in front gives the place a bit of cool, kitschy charm. I should have been born in Wisconsin. I freaking LOVE cheese and I'm not talking fancy weird cheese, just the plain old standards. For me, this store just makes me all kinds of happy. This shop is rife with tourist, but for good reason. Settled in on the end of the main street in Frankenmuth, the Cheese Haus offers a variety of cheese, wine, gifts, and more. Entering the store, you'll see the the variety of sample platters allowing you to taste almost any cheese they offer. Although they pride themselves on their chocolate cheese, it is not their best product. Unlike the happy marriage of peanut butter and chocolate, cheese and chocolate just do not mix. Try it for the novelty, then keep walking. To be fair, I've only sampled the chocolate cheese cold, and I'm left to wonder if it is better served in a fondue pot. In the back are racks of tacky gifts. This is the place you'd shop for a parent or grandparent. The shop does sell (like many other shops in town), so be sure to indulge your sweet tooth. If fudge isn't your thing, check out the old fashion taffy shop next door and see it being made! read more

I really like cheese, so this is my kind of place. Great varieties, and some quirky flavors too. There are also plenty of free samples, which is awesome. Especially if you are from out of town, and want to make sure you get the best. When we were there, they had samples of several different ages of cheddar, including 13-year old cheddar! Excellent. There are some touristy items I could do without, and the one-way style layout of the store can be a bit awkward, but these are minor concerns. It's all about the cheese! read more

How can you not love a giant mouse in a giant wedge of cheese? If you are looking for imported french cheese, you ain't gonna find it here. But if you are looking for some american favorites and a great snack for the drive home - you have to stop in. They have a nice selection of cheeses with different herbs, etc. And you can even get a sampler pack of cheeses in a deli container to snack on. Spread cheeses are good too, but my favorite is the 11 year old cheddar, or if they have it, older still. They have some funky stuff like chocolate cheese - whatever. I have been disappointed that a Michigan cheese shop so close to Pinconning would sell some Wisconsin cheeses (the ones shpaed like golf bags and been steins). Also if you need some Frankenmuth chochtzki/souvenir junk, they have everything you need. When I visit Frankenmuth, one of my must stops is the Frankenmuth Cheese Haus! What makes this quaint little jewel in the heart of Frankenmuth so special are their trinkets and creative novelties and not to mention their samples of sausage and cheese! I really love their summer sausage; jalapeno smoked cheese spread, and smoked bacon cheese spread. It was my first sample that got me hooked. Ever since then I crave the taste! One tip I would recommend would be for visitors to get a coupon book from the welcome center. Their is always a coupon for the Cheese Haus in there that offers a free gift after you spend so much. Great overall experience. The small barvarian themed shop housed multiple different types of unique cheeses and spreads most which were available for buyers to taste test. The shop showcased cute souvenirs as well as cheese making wandering around the shop and enjoyable shopping experience. They were out of chocolate cheese samples, and the woman told me they couldn't cut anymore for the day. Their cheese spreads tasted processed. A large number of their cheese spreads contained the words 'cheese food', which just sounds scary! If you have to clarify that what I am about to eat is food, you probably don't want anything to do with it. The shop was filled with a lot of nice products from Michigan, beers, wines, and mustards and whatnot, but a lot of the merchindise was cheesy (no pun intended) tourist stuff. read more

Pretty cool little joint. We were walking by and decided to go inside. 3 stars because they have a large selection (and more than just cheese) and friendly service. The Chocolate Cheese was basically fudge, but delicious. Free samples are always a crowd pleaser. Prices were a bit high, but they definitely know that they are a destination for tourists. We refrained from buying anything because we couldn't afford the prices and like I said, we were just passing by and stopped in. The two stars off are for high prices and crowded spaces. They have SO much stuff that any open space is filled with a cheese-loving-customer. I don't think my lack of purchase hurt them at all. They were plenty busy. A-OK. Fun to visit. Maybe next time I'll plan to bring some money to buy something. read more

Always got to stop here when we're in Frankenmuth. Great selection of meats, cheeses, kitchen gadgets, and candies. Picked up a couple of Frankenmuth microbrews too. The only thing I wish they had more of would be European cheeses instead of domestic and processed cheeses. And to be a real cheese haus you have to have white cheddar older than 13 years (just kidding), in my opinion, aged asiago, gruyere, kasseri, feta... I wish they had a wider variety of goat cheeses instead of processed cheeses. read more

We go to Frankenmuth every year (we're going on Wednesday), and this is one of our "annual stops." If you're looking for unique gifts or just want to browse around, this should be on your list of places to see. I have to warn you - if you're going on a weekend in late November, you're going to be in a very slow-moving line through the store. The wait is usually long enough where even if I have identified one or two things I'd like to buy, I didn't feel like waiting 20 minutes to buy it (especially if I've already been in Bronner's and I'm feeling agoraphobic). If you're feeling brave, you can try things (unless the sample plates have been picked clean) like "Chocolate cheese" but I'm not a fan of the texture, nor flavor. read more

I have been going here for years, I would normally give it a five star rating but the lady at the front desk acted so annoyed that she actually had to work that it gave four. It's a fun place to visit you can try just about every cheese they have. And everybody likes free samples. We get the same thing every time potato goat cheese, and the bacon cheese dip with the crackers. This time we actually added summer sausage, and it's the best summer sausage I ever tasted. read more

The Frankenmuth Cheese Haus is a place to go for all your cheese needs. There is over a 125 flavors of cheeses along with cheese spreads that are very very good. Its neat to watch them make the stores own cheese spreads. I found cheese from Germany Spain France and other countries along with cheese that are 1 to 13 years old. This place is a MUST if you visit Frankenmuth! It's not a tourist shop by any means.. We sampled many different cheese spreads to help us choose which one to purchase! We tried a strawberry cheese spread, blueberry & even chocolate cheese pieces as well. Very interesting! Then onto the cheese spreads (garlic is amazing but we went with the 'Father Bolger's 3 cheese spread' because it has that bite similar to a cheese ball.. I only rate it a 4 not a 5 because I was eager to sample the blocks & curds as well & there were no samples of this =( Happy cheeseing! read more

I am giving this Haus 5 stars because it is just fun in there! Like other people have said their variety of cheese is not that huge, but its just a cool atmosphere. You can try any of their cheeses they offer like cheddar (all different types of sharpness), blue cheese, Gouda, Swiss, and a couple others. What I like about this place is their great flavored cheese spreads they have all over the store to try. By far the jalapeno cheese spread is my favorite, they also offer garlic, original, horseradish, & bacon. I can't really complain about any of these. Another thing I was happy about is they offer a big selection of the laughing cow babybels. Flavors I have never seen in the stores! The Cheese Haus is known for their "chocolate cheese," which I may say is just awful. Taste just like chalk. But every time I go in and try it in hopes it will taste different, but it doesn't. I do enjoy taking first time visitors to this place to make them taste the famous "chocolate cheese," of course I don't tell them it is horrible until after wards. The place also offers a coffee bar and ice cream. Of course in the back of the store they offer tons of Frankenmuth knickknacks to pick up! Don't forget on your way out to grab a small bottle of wine or raspberry champagne to accompany that cheese you are getting! read more

As far as souvenirs go - they are the same ones that every Frankenmuth store carries (wine bottle stoppers, Frankenmuth keychains, ect.). but in your Frankenmuth escapades I would suggest making it a point to stop in here. read more

Lots of kitschy bits as well as cheese and some other food items like sausage. Keep in mind that most of the cheese is imported from Wisconsin except the cheese spread, which is pretty darn tasty stuff. Lots of interesting little candy items, some of which I can't find at home and that makes me happy for my gingerbread house decorating each fall. read more

If you're looking for artisanal cheese, this isn't the place. But if you're interested in a better, more varied selection of more commonplace cheeses, you'll have fun in this store...lots of flavors to choose from. We did enjoy the dill cheese curds -- something new and different for us -- and the chocolate cheese.
