Worst adoption center I've dealt with. They act like they prioritize the cats over everything but clearly they don't.
We adopted a kitten from them and were told that they'd be there 24/7 for the cat and if we needed anything, just text them. Because she and her litter mates were with a foster, we picked her up at the boutique next door to the center so we didn't actually see those conditions.
Immediately after getting home, there was something a little off about the kitten. Wouldn't eat, wouldn't drink any water. Spit up bile. The weirdest part was that she kept shaking her head and drooling copiously (https://photos.app.goo.gl/cELb9y7SAYVUU9aT9). I reached out to Mona, the director of Colony Cats, and she attributed it to stress. The kitten had diarrhea shortly after, and we found a flea on her. I reached back out to let her know and to have her let the adopters of the litter mates know too. Later, the foster mom texted me letting me know to check the kitten for fleas since the other adopters had found a few as well, so clearly Mona hadn't deemed it pertinent to pass along. The kitten's condition got worse as the day went on, and I ended up getting up every hour that night to be with her, cleaning up messes and trying to offer water and food, cleaning up spit. What hurt my heart the worst was that the kitten was so sweet but was clearly miserable, ears back, shaking. She had diarrhea again that night.
The next morning, she spit up bile again and continued to drool and refuse to eat but relented and drank some water. I reached out to Mona again and she had us come to the center, so we packed up the baby and went. When we got there, I was appalled by the conditions. The smell was awful, multiple cats were clearly sick, and there were various messes all over the floor (and I'm no stranger to cat poop / puke!). We made our way back and asked for Mona and we're greeted by, you guessed it, the infamous rude lady volunteer. We explained her symptoms and the woman immediately attributed it to stress. We insisted something was wrong, as anyone could tell just by looking at the kitten. I suspect just to humor us based on what happened later, she took the cat to the just-for-volunteers area and said they'd keep her for about a half hour to see if they could get her to eat. We left and returned to hear that they couldn't get her to eat, they gave her subcutaneous fluids, and some anti nausea medication. They gave us some baby food and an antibiotic to give her. I found out later that THEY DO NOT HAVE A VET ON SITE so only God knows where they get that medication.
We took her home and she continued to get worse, shaking and meowing painfully as well as continuing to drool / foam at the mouth. I reached out again, asking if we could take her to the vet since supposedly Colony Cats would cover vet care but only if you took the cat to one of their vets. At this point I think that they don't use a vet since they once again advised me to come to the center in the morning.
The kitten had a rough night but finally peed and ate something in the morning, (60 hours later). When we got to the center, there were multiple volunteers there, yet they kept walking past 3 piles of puke on the floor. Yet again Mona didn't seem us worthy of her presence. We talked to Greta, who was pleasant. We ended up returning the kitten at least for a few days for medical care, and I let Mona know (via text) that we thought that the best option since I'd already called off of work twice and couldnt supervise the kitten 24/7. She offered that we could take her back if she improved after a few days, again via text. A little later, I received the text attached below.
The absolute awful treatment I've received and the way they treat the cats in their care shows that they like to put up a front of caring for cats but they don't actually at all. If you saw the kitten when we left Colony Cats yesterday, your heart would break at how obviously miserable she was. read more
