Despite the owner "attacking me?" In my last review (odd behavior, but ok class isn't spread amongst all equally) I gave it another shot. Absolutely not impressed with the food despite ordering nothing fried. We ordered a grilled cheese and salad. The grilled cheese tasted like buttered toast. Couldn't even taste any cheese. The salad wasn't super fresh- the lettuce seemed soft-not all the way soggy but close- and had some red/pink hues and transparency in some of the pieces which was super disappointing. We waited quite a minute for our food so we just asked for our check almost immediately after receiving our food. The service was so so- like many reviews mention. Overall, I wouldn't recommend- but do caution you to not leave an honest review unless you want the owner to come big bad wolf with his reply and attack. Don't be too delicate, Luis. I came in here recently with some friends before attending a haunted trail nearby! I am not too familiar with downtown Monroe but this place was highly recommended and the reviews were good, so we decided to check it out. They have a nice little outdoor spot, but there was a bit of a wait and we were somewhat limited on time, so we opted to be seated sooner inside. That we were on a time crunch is unfortunate because the kitchen was pretty backed up, and we ended up having to wait a good bit for our food. To be fair, the manager did come and apologize to us and even comped a round of drinks for us. I've worked in a restaurant before and I know how a single call out can really throw off service, and I appreciated the manager's professionalism. For my food I opted to go with a pizza and unfortunately the pizza was a bit undercooked and soft and floppy in the middle, they may have been in a rush to get it out. Overall I think it was just an off night and I'm not gonna hold it against them, I certainly want to go in and give it another chance, this time hopefully grab a spot outside because it did look quite nice! read more

When we went last Friday the kitchen was running behind but with a live band playing and helpful staff we enjoyed our lengthy stay. Great server quickly took my drink and food order after explaining the specials. I opted for the Carolina burger special and a guacamole and chips side with sweet tea. The guacamole was very good. The chips were mediocre. The sweet tea was too good as I over indulged. The burger was as ordered. I say that as I was not fond of the bbq sauce they used. To me it didn't accent the flavors. It was just there to make the bun soggy. A thicker sauce would have been preferable and maybe on the side if they are going to use that much. This is a decent spot. I visited on a weekday evening so not super-busy. I was seated on the terrace area which was easily accessible to the street. There was a large fan outdoors to maintain a comfortable breeze. Staff was polite overall and service was prompt. The server was slightly aloof and at one point disappeared for quite some time without bringing napkins that were requested (til the very end). However, her behavior did not seem intentional/directed towards me so it was easily dismissible. I opted for a vegan burger with fries, which was pretty good. My strawberry margarita was pretty weak. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, and will slyly slide in to turn on the lights under your umbrella (if you're dining outside) when it starts getting dark in the evening. On Friday evenings, there is live music as well. The menu is Latin-inspired and you can't go wrong starting with the chips and guac or fried yuca. I also love that they carry local wine - we bought a bottle of cab. I was pleasantly surprised by and happy with my fish and chips special. I had to get a to-go box because portions are huge. I stumbled in here when I got a traffic ticket in Union County and had to travel to Monroe to handle it. Well, the good news is that I found this place! The burger that I had there was really and truly one of the best that I've ever had! I mentioned that to the waitress and she just smiled and said "that's because it's a brisket burger!" What a great little find! The food was delish. My husband had the French onion chicken sandwich and the caramelized onions were ON POINT. No weak sautéing here. I had the fish and chips special and it was very good. The tartar sauce was unusual and definitely homemade. The real treat here is the little courtyard. I went ahead and ordered the nachos with the NC BBQ pulled pork. Although the flavor has never been an issue, I think the ratio of meat to chips was disappointing. The inside is kinda small and it was ok at first but as the lunch rush came through it got a little crowded. We did begin outside but it was too hot so we decided to head inside where they had plenty of fans running to keep us cool. I had the Jalapeño Pimento Burger and it was very good. My only negative comments would be that the burger was a little small for the price ($13~) and the fried pickles on the burger seemed to be lacking in quantity. Now I know that inflation has a big role to play in the size and price of the burger but this burger seemed unusually smaller than most burgers lately. All together our time here was wonderful. We liked this joint from the moment we walked through the door. Of course, we had high expectations based upon the excellent Yelp reviews, and were not disappointed in the least. First of all, the employees were very friendly and service was warm and attentive from start to finish. The spacious dining room has beautiful wood block tables and finished concrete floors. The atmosphere is comfortably casual and the sanitation score was an impressive 98.5 on our midday visit. We ate inside due to weather but there is a beautiful and expansive patio available. We started things off with a complimentary cup of Greens, Beans and Sausage soup. It had a small kick, which I liked, but was just a wee bit too salty for our tastes. That minor blip was completely forgotten with arrival of our entrees however. I went with an 8 oz double burger with housemade chips for about $12. As anyone who reads my reviews knows, I am admittedly a burger snob. I have found that the majority of the time, most so-called "great" burgers to be lacking in some area, whether it be subpar ground beef or boring (and frequently, stale) buns. That is definitely not the case here. To start with, their burgers are made with ground beef that is ground daily (in-house) using New York Strips, which is indeed rare. The accompaniments (tomato, lettuce, red onion slivers, pickled jalapenos and mayo) were fresh and tasty. Last but not least, the bun was fresh and anything but an afterthought. The meat was cooked and seasoned perfectly and was delicious. This was, in fact, a great burger, not to mention, huge! My wife's grilled salmon topped salad was gigantic, fresh and beautifully presented. It ran around $14 and she enjoyed it. It was substantial enough that we brought half of it home. We finished things off with a piece of Creme Brulee Cheesecake to-go which was a disappointment, as it did not taste entirely fresh (both graham cracker crust and carmelized top were soggy). We'll try the peanut butter pie next time. Overall, we were very impressed and plan to return in the near future as we love supporting Charlotte's peripheral small towns whenever possible . read more
