I literally came back on to Yelp just to write a review for Frank's and realized I already had. To update, they're still amazing. I've come in with some odd and funky alterations such as a baby bassinet cover, an ancient sentimental sweatshirt that was falling apart and almost everyone said was dead (you know, that one your significant other wishes would just disappear), and a luggage bag. They've nailed every single one of them. In addition I still bring in rips, things to be taken in, let out, buttons, pockets, etc. and they're just as good as ever. In fact, for the small ones, they'll sometimes do them as I wait (not sure if that's because I'm a regular or standard treatment.) But if you're frugal and want to save money, environmental and hate throwing away otherwise fine clothes, or your sentimental and want to keep your old favorites going a few more years. The best tailoring in the city. I remember coming here with my parents when I was young. I had to get a dress altered for a wedding I am standing up in, so came back because I remembered the excellent work they did. Just walking through the doors felt great - you could feel everyone's passion for making sure the client felt perfect in their garment. It's an old fashioned tailor shop with the attention to tailoring that existed in the old days. They were very busy and I didn't feel rushed, and actually they were able to add a removable capped sleeve so that my shoulders would be covered for the wedding, but open for the reception. I was impressed with all of the different things people came in to have tailored and altered. The cutest thing happened while I was there too - the owner was working with an old-timer and didn't charge her anything for her garments. It was really sweet. Good Customer service is something that's hard to come by these days and they have it! The prices were also very reasonable. This place is my go to tailor. I love this place. If you can think of it, they can probably do it. Example: I had a pair of suit pants, I thought would be better off without pleats, they took out the pleats. I've never even heard of that! I'm short, I need a short rise on most of my pants, they can shortened the rise. I had a suit vest that needed to be taken out, but there is no extra material, so they added some: $22 bucks. Prices for a suit is a little over $50. Service is friendly and the work is great. I would stop by on a weekday though, as its nigh impossible to find street parking around here. Most work gets done in about two-three days. They do a lot of volume, but thats good, cause it shows a lot of people trust them. This placed moved up the street betweem Manny's restaurant and a gas station, about half a block from the original location, so don't worry, its still there. read more

I've been using Frank's for about a year now for minor alterations to pants and shirts. It's affordable and they get it done fast. Parking is very easy, and it usually doesn't take very long to drop off your clothes. He also has a small army of people to work on your clothes - probably why it's done so fast! Got my bridesmaid's dress altered here for pretty cheap. Relatively easy to come in, try the clothes on have someone measure you and get out the door. The man who presumably owns the place is a less than friendly, but that was OK I just wanted to come in and get out easily and I got that done! I'll be back. read more

Going by the good reviews on here and the fact that Frank's is near my Pilsen office, I brought a new sport coat here last Monday for alterations. I love the coat, but the fit is slightly off. On Monday I waited for a couple of minutes for the gruff, grey haired old guy at the front counter with three buttons open on his shirt to finish with other customers. Once he was done I told him that I need the sport coat's sleeves shortened a tiny bit and for the chest to be tightened as well. He had had me stand in front of a mirror for 10 seconds while he brusquely made two quick marks with a wax pencil, grabbed my jacket off and gave me a little blue card that he hand wrote -65 without saying anything else. My "this guy doesn't give a damn" radar was exploding at that point, but I assumed that was part of the old school charm of the place and continued on. Just before I exited I remembered to ask when it would be ready and he said,"Friday." That was the extent of our conversation. I checked the sign on the door and it said was open until 5:30p on Friday evenings. Great. Upon braving the friday early evening rush hour I made my back to Frank's around 5pm. There was one customer in front of me who was having some issues with his tailored suits and a gentleman introduced himself as Frank and offered to take care of his issues. The aforementioned white-haired gentleman with too many buttons open and a younger women were at the front counter looking confused and helping the customer in front of me with something. After some time, the younger lady asked me for the blue card and went in search of my jacket. I thought I spied it on the workstation of one of the diligent wage slaves in the center of the main room, but couldn't believe that not only had the coat not been pressed but that the alteration work had not been done. Sure enough, she walked around for 5 minutes looking for it before I pointed at his station as the worker bee was about to begin hacking away at my coat. I said loudly, "Just bring me the coat, I'll take it somewhere else." Nothing from Frank. Nothing from the white-haired goon with too many buttons on his shirt open. I've been looking for a place to alter my suits, shirts and pants. I'll continue looking. read more

Customer service sucked. Didn't even speak when I walked through the door. Pricey as well. $200 for 3 shirts and 3 bottoms with very little alterations. Maybe I wouldn't have mind paying it if the service was more personable. A regular came in as I was leaving and they had great conversation. DONT GO HERE. They do NOT do a good job on tailoring; they ended up entirely ruining (damaging all of the ribbon--completely sloppy careless job) a shirt of mine that needed to be taken in. On one of my dresses that needed to be shortened, there were black marks all over the bottom of the dress when I got it back. This tailoring service does NOT pay attention to your clothing as they should. They are careless, sloppy, and everything comes back looking worse than it started. Do your clothes a favor -- find another tailor, do not go here! read more

I will not be back. I brought a blazer in to be adjusted and was given a ticket to pick it up on a Friday 6 days later. I called on Thursday to ask about the status of my blazer and I was assured that they would have it ready by Friday morning. After work on Friday, about 30 minutes before Frank's closes, I went to pick it up. I was told that it was not ready and wouldn't be ready until closing time.... This was annoying but I was offered half off the price so I let it go. But when I came in the following morning, it still wasn't finished and I ended up having to wait for them to finish it. I was in a bind. I had been to procrastinating getting my bridesmaids dress fitted. The wedding was on Saturday and on Monday I still hasn't gotten it done. Every place was full and couldn't promise to get it done in time. This is when I was referred to Franks. I came in the place was packed. I take that as a good sign. Despite it being busy I was fitted quickly and assured that the dress would be done Friday morning. Friday 9 am my dress was done and steamed. Dress fit perfect and looked beautiful. We just picked up my fiance's wedding suit and my wedding reception dress from Frank's and can't say enough good things about them! My fiance needed some basic length alterations as well as wanting side vents sewn into the back of the jacket, which came back looking sharp! My dress needed taking in around the chest, which they nailed perfectly the first time using just pins, unlike David's Bridal who has my actual wedding gown where I'm on my 3rd fitting, and they took measurements! We're having a beach wedding in Costa Rica, so I also wanted to add some flare and a pop of color to my party dress I got secondhand from a friend. I bought some fabric roses at the craft store that I wanted added to my dress in place of the lame-looking white lace ones the dress came with, with a spray of matching daisies along the bottom; Frank's had no problem executing it even better than I had pictured in my mind's eye, and even complimented my idea! Plus, I would be ashamed to tell you how much David's Bridal charged me for dress alterations when Frank's charged us $120 total for all the alterations done to both the dress and the suit! I should have brought both dresses here to start with, lesson expensively learned. Alterations were ready as promised (about a week and a half), and Frank's even tossed in a garment bag to protect my fiance's suit. They did an amazing job with the most important clothes we'll ever wear, and we will definitely be taking all our tailoring needs to Frank's in the future. read more

I had the best alterations experience with Frank. I was turned away from 2 other alterations places, saying my wedding dress had too many beads. (umm, pretty sure many wedding dresses have beads...) Frank saw it and right away said he could absolutely have it done, and in a very timely manner. When I came back to get it, I had just came from the airport and the dress didn't fit right. He told me to come back with no problems and the next day it fit perfect. He even made some adjustments for free for "the trouble". I appreciate him taking responsibility for my poofyness but that one was all on me . Either way, he was friendly and so was the woman that helped me (I believe the other manager - she was awesome too) and I would recommend this place to anyone needing wedding alterations! I got a pair of pants tailored here recently; I needed the waist taken out a bit and the bottoms to be hemmed. The last time I took something to the tailor it was $50 to shorten the sleeves on a wool coat so I was a little apprehensive about price. The guy, you can tell, has been doing this forever. I love Frank's! They do a great job on small fixes. I can not attest to their full alterations prowess however... I have been satisfied with the few hem projects on jeans. Elastic replacement, holes fixed and skirts saved from destruction. If you want something special, be specific. These folks do not provide buttons, ribbon or lace... just a pair of hands and a sewing machine. Great service. Can sometimes take a while to get out of there but then again... I never stop in when I'm in a rush so it doesn't bother me. This is a community spot... every one is rather chatty and everyone knows your name. Don't forget your pick-up ticket! read more

Great Tailor - Fixed my jeans, saved me $100 on a new pair. Cost $15 to get the legs taken in. Took them to a different tailor 2 years ago, and she did a terrible job on them. Frank took care of me. Only once did I have an issue and it was fix expediently, for free, and Frank threw in a free alteration. I am so happy I found an great tailor. Remember, you get what you pay for. Frank's is great! I went here to get a couple of pants shortened. Frank himself measured me, and while I was changing he actually forgot about me for about 5 minutes. I didn't complain, but he felt so bad that he did a pair of pants for free, and he had them done within 3 hours. I had a bridesmaid dress that was way too big that I stupidly took to a random place in the south loop where they made it so tight I couldn't even zip it. These folks tailored the suit that I bought for an interview (next week--fingers crossed). I got measured promptly the first visit. On the pick up date (today), Frank himself checked out the results and made sure my suit was pressed. The price for a suit dress and jacket $56. It is worth every penny. Frank's does a great job! I brought 5 suits to get tailored. Each of the pants needed something different. Most hemmed, the waist taken in, the hips taken in. They even made the waist of 2 pants larger--I didnt know this was possible! Ray was really meticulous in making certain all the details were perfect. The hem on one of the pants was a hair too short. Ray had about 1/4 of an inch added back on as I waited. I was charged $12 per pant for hemming, $12 per paint to have the waist taken in and $24 for the alteration on the jacket. This is just about what you would pay at your neighborhood dry cleaner for alterations but the folks at Frank's are truly the experts! read more

Take multiple items if you want to try for a discount. They altered my suit jackets, skirts, waistlines, some puckered stitching on a shirt, and the baggy rear of a pair of pants. Good work and on time. Have to pay in advance. Careful if you go on a really hot day -- the store gets very warm, too, and tailors must be very close (to you) to mark the alterations... if you get my drift. read more
