Went there about a month ago on a referral. I like to support Latino businesses and it's near my house so it was a no brainer. Took 1 tunic blouse to get side slits cut higher up and a front button for a pair of jeans. I paid $20 CASH ONLY, which is too expensive for something so simple. (My grandfather was a tailor and I'm familiar with pricing and good work.) I didn't realize it until a few days later, but he put a regular button on the front closure of my jeans instead of a REAL jean button. Thanks but I could've done that at home FOR FREE!! I wait tables for a living. When purchasing work pants, my primary motivation is to find the cheapest, most durable black pants available. The majority of the front is going to be obscured by my apron, and the exposed legs will spend their days doused by a miasma of sauces and fluids. I require unrestricted movement, and deep pockets So I found two pairs, with an inseam about four inches too long. I'm not one to employ a tailor's services, but I really liked these pants, and the price. Sure, I'm cashing in these savings on alterations, but this is the first time in ten years I've required a hem job. And they actually look good on me. Sometimes vanity overrules frugality. So, then, Sweet Jesus, is Tino's amazing! Here's the timeline of what just happened: I pinned my pants at home. It's snowy outside, and I hated changing in and out of clothes when I was a kid, shopping with my mom at Al Baskin's. I also wanted to be the one sticking myself with a pin, if i shimmied out of them improperly. I walked over to Tino's, and asked about prices. He said $20, and then said, give me 20 minutes. My face contorted. Tino took in my expression, confused. "You'll do it now?" I asked. "Sure." "Um, I have an errand to run. Can I come back?" He smiled. "No problem." I walked to the bank at 18th and Halsted, made a deposit, and walked back. It took maybe ten minutes. Toni greeted me with hemmed and pressed pants. They were bread loaf warm. Tino is the best tailor around. He has done two of my dresses and I have seen his work on suits from 2 men who like their suits tailored very differently. He really listens to your requests and is a skilled sewer. You may have to wait approx. 10 minutes because he needs people to put on their garments but the wait is worth it. A storefront that you might miss if you weren't looking for it but a class establishment and a very nice guy. Prices are super reasonable as well. Addendum, July 7th 2007 Tino Rocha, the owner of Tino's Tailor Shop, passed away on June 22nd. He was a great tailor and an awesome man and will be missed. read more

I am not a fan of giving 1 star ratings but the quality of workmanship here is really lacking. I took 2 pairs of jeans in to have the waist taken in and had to go back to the store on two different occasions to get the work done correctly. The first time I took the pants back in, they hadn't accurately measured my waist and taken in enough fabric. I get the pants back and now they fit too tight, what am I to do but hope that they stretch out. I get home and start looking at the pants and realize that the seams are uneven in the back where they had darted them. I take the pants back and show them the poor quality of workmanship and am told that is how the pants are made which makes 0 sense to me. He agrees to fix them the seams so that they are lined up evenly. The place should only be used if you have no other options and need a quick and dirty hem job, nothing more. I will say that they did fix the issues with the poor craftsmanship but only after the issues were pointed out and I took them back a couple of times. When you pick up the pants, you must ask to try them on and do your only quality control. Don't do what I did and leave the store only to get home and realize the quality is poor. read more

I wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt because there were some great reviews but I still went despite the reviews warning me to stay away. I took 5 slacks to be hemmed. I am a short person who still has to get the "short" slacks tailored. What I got back was slacks that were too short! Imagine my surprise! Something fit me too short!!!! The people ARE nice but seriously, how can they get this wrong? Anyway, I'm back to my hunting of a good tailor. Recommendations are welcome. read more

Horrible service. The guy literally destroyed my shirt. I explained everything to him on how to fix it since the washing machine caught my shirt, he put a big, non centered patch on, when I went to pick it up I asked him why he hadn't done what was explained he said this would look better but he can fix it so when he went to fix it he made lines up and down the patch making it even worse. Until recently, I had been taking pants to get hemmed at Tino's, which always turned out fine, but there's really nothing remarkable in that. Last week, though, I took a complicated skirt to the shop to be taken in at the waist. I picked it up two days later (this work can sometimes take a week!) and literally stood gaping at the beautiful job they did. The (owner?) pointed out that their work was absolutely unnoticeable--this was a designer skirt, so is it blasphemy to say Tino's actually improved on the original design? Reading previous reviews, I understand the original owner has passed away, but I assure you high-quality work is still coming out of Tino's. For the price (so low!) and quality, you can't beat it. This is the best place to get your clothes Tailored. After my incident with Maria's Alterations, I've taken everything here. Everyone here is nice, the work is good, and they are fast. There has been a number of times when I went in with jeans I wanted to wear that night, and they were ready for me in 45 min. They are very honest in their pricing and the work they think needs to be done, and are so pleasant to deal with that I recommend them to everyone. read more

I went here despite the poor reviews because I needed pants hemmed ASAP. They did a fast job - less than 24 hours - but not a very good job. The cuff is too large and the pants break terrible at the shoe. I would have complained and tried to get the fixed, but some large men were hogging the mirror and the front desk could have cared less about me. I don't like to complain about a business that I haven't given a chance to correct their mistakes, but I certainly won't go back. Next time I'll plan better and go to the tailor from before. I can't say I'm anything resembling an expert on tailoring, but I brought in a blazer to be taken in and a pair of nice jeans to be re-hemmed. I brought the items in around 3:30pm on a Saturday, and they were done at 5pm sharp. Like I said, I'm no expert - but the work seems sharp. They used the original hem on the jeans, and - to my untrained eye, at least - you'd never known they'd been shortened. As an added bonus, I watched the shop owner (the eponymous Tino's brother, from what I gather) take in laid-back stride an irate, completely irrational customer. (She'd brought in a pair of pants to be taken in at 5:05 and was incensed that they couldn't complete her order before they closed in 25 minutes.) He was courteous and professional when many (like myself) would've probably told the her to *(#% off. Since I've never been to a tailor before today, I can't tell you how TIno's prices compare to others, but they seem reasonable to me: $28 to take in the blazer and $14 to hem the jeans. I'll also add that in the few minutes I spent at Tino's, there was a steady stream of walk-in traffic and people double-parking in front to drop off/pick up. So even though there are only five reviews on here, folks in the neighborhood obviously think highly of the work done here. read more

I asked if he could do a little better than that and he said $16.00 and I agreed. Upon further thought I realized that was too much also. I will not go back. read more

I've I had Tino's tailor my clothes (jeans as a teen & suits upon starting my career) for over 40 years! Tino literally watched me grow into manhood. Upon his death in 2007 his brother's assumed management. His youngest brother (counter guy) has become a total "jerk". He quotes prices out the top of his head (nothing is posted). They were sued a couple years ago for that practice. Prices have doubled in the past 3 years for minimal services. I get comparable prices here in the Gold Coast. My last visit was Good Friday & that's generally their busiest time (easter outfits). The place was empty, no clothes hanging for service. It's sad to see what has happened to this establishment. I had a skirt tailored here. They did a good job and the customer service was nice but I felt like I got ripped off with the price

They're great. I had a sleeve fix in a $200+ coat I found at a thrift store for $15 because the lining was torn and they were no nonsense and inexpensive about it. I also asked about putting in another button hole and tightening up some buttons that were coming loose and they were frank and capable about what it would cost and how hard it was to do. I got my coat the next day with like new crafstmanship and it's total cost has bumped up to only $50. They were also very diligent in calling me to let me know it was ready. They even called me when I didn't show up when I said I would because of a snowstorm. They were very polite when I explained that I was stuck on a bus and patient as could be when I got there, tried in on and inspected things. No one looking at the clock or fussing with their hats and jackets. I was keeping them late and they were super cool pros every step of the way. Couldn't be happier. Thanks guys. read more

I bought a suit on Saturday for an interview I have on Wednesday. The waist was a little tight, and I wanted to get it let out before my interview. I searched on yelp and saw that this place had decent reviews. I went in around 9am on Monday. They were very honest about what they could do and offered to have it completed by the end of the day. I picked it up at 5pm! The only downfall was that I paid $18 for 1/2 inch wiggle room in the waist. Not sure if that's pretty standard pricing... but I'll take it for the convenience. read more

Bargain Hunters Beware!!! You would think a little store front shop in Pilsen, on 18th st, wouldn't charge you like the downtown stops do, BEWARE. What started out as a nice little neighborhood shop to get minor alterations done has become a place where there's no set price for what you want to have done. Instead it appears he looks at you(working, dressed nice) and gives you "his" price off the top of his head. I use to get the length and waist taken in on my work pants. Prices were bet $7-9 dollars. When I came back 2mnths later they were $12-15. I recently went in to have the sleeves on a suit jacket taken up by 2inches, I thought this would be a minor job,right. When I asked how much it would cost he looked it over, came up with all the crap about what they had to do, then out of the blue said it would cost $32.00. 32 bucks!, to have the sleeves taken up 2inches, closer to 1 1/2, you're kidding right! I will have to find another shop because I will not be going back. read more

I recently visited Tino's on Saturday 9-30-17. I was charged 20 dollars for a 14 dollar hem. Tino' s brother who now owns the shop since Tino's passing.. This weasel now is charging two different prices for hens. I was told by this greedy asshole that there is a original and regular but he fail to tell you the price until the work is completed.. I have been a customer since 1983 and I will be looking for a new tailor.Tino was a good man and his brother is ruining his name as a businessman. This guy has over 50 articles of clothing for sale due to unpaid work.Do not do business with this crook. read more

I took 5 pairs of pants in to get tailored, I was in no rush whatsoever, but I was asked if I wanted to wait for them to be finished...I first hesitated since they were almost about to close. They literally finished 5 pairs in 15 minutes. I've also had great service previous to this occasion when I took in a dress to be hemmed for a wedding that I needed asap. Tino was a true artist and his prices were more than fair for the quality of his fittings and the work that he ensured was done to the highest quality. With his passing, Tino's is really no better than most other corner tailor shops. The staff is nice, but they have none of Tino's skill or passion for the work. I have going to Tino's since he was located on Halsted Street ( Maxwell Street ).They can make a suit you bought off the rack look tailor made. I get complements on my suits all the time. He even did alterations on my daughter's prom dress,which turned out excellent.I recommend this shop to everyone I know. My father introduced me to Tino's almost 20 years ago at its previous location. Every suit I've own has been tailor by Tino's without issue. He's even taking me to the side to discuss the quality of the suits and in 1 instance saying "this suit not worth it". I see people complaining about price, I pay for same day service, I'm sure if you're not in a rush you can find a cheaper tailor. read more

It might not have some swanky storefront and on the inside, it may look like a shop needing renovation. But the guys do a good job without any BS, at least the 3 times I've been there. They even can turnover alterations within 48 hours. Sometimes, it's within a couple hours. They even do well with wool coats for a reasonable price. Plus, they'll leave a voicemail when everything is ready. Great for those near South Loop and UIC. read more

I heard about this place on tv about a year ago and thought that I'd give them a try as an alternate to my regular tailor. I got two pair of corduroy jeans for Christmas that were too long that needed to be shortened. I figured why not try Tino's since it would not require major work. I would use this experience as a litmus test for future potential work. Now mind you, I also had a new suit I've owned for four months plus a new sports coat that I owned since last January that needed tailoring in the trunk just in case. When I get there, I decide to take all of the items into the store just in case the pricing was cool and the vibe was right. Not only was the pricing very affordable for all four items but they were also able to do all of the work the same day! My regular tailor would easily take at least a week and conservatively charge a minimum of 25% more. The only reason I can not give them five stars is because they are cash only and I rarely carry it on me which required a trip to the atm when I went to pick up my clothes. read more
