Spencer and the team is absolutely amazing. I went here for a pre-purchase inspection. They charge a little more than average PPI cost but it's well worth every dime. They kept the car for 3 hours and generated a very thorough report for it. Spencer walked me through everything and showed me major paint job issues that I wouldn't have noticed. He also recommended questions to ask about the car if I still chose to buy it and even made negotiation recommendations! Above all, AFTER I made the payment for the PPI and left, I got a call from someone at Frank's automotive (didn't catch your name, sorry!) to share a list of cars they had found online within my budget and requirements! Needed a shop that not only claims they service Porsche's, but when visiting the shop you can 'actually" see a collection of Porsche's in their service bay. It gives you confidence that they know what they are doing. Had my 120K service and my Cayenne runs great! Shop is clean. Everyone from Receptionist/Cashier was professional and knowledgeable. Frank's is my new go to shop for my Cayenne. My only complaint was with the care wash. Frank's uses a car wash service down the street from the shop. I called just to get an estimate for a water pump replacement, as my wp was leaking and showing signs of failure. (2000 Porsche Boxster S) They refused to give me a quote over the phone and said I needed to bring the car in (so they could charge me a diagnostic fee) I was quite surprised how unprofessional this was. The rep told me it was company policy. I will never recommend Frank's Automotive to anyone. I'm sure they do topnotch quality work but this policy smacks of attempting to stymie competition and consumer choice. (Not to mention trying to profit by charging a diagnostic fee when I know what needs to be done). Nothing wrong with calling diff shops to get quotes for a service I want done. Came highly recommended, but clearly not current info THE SHORT: I had 5 mechanics walk right by me as I was getting my car towed in, and NOT A SINGLE ONE said hello, or acknowledged my existence. They gave me an absurd quote, and no real options for staging out the work. I found the woman at the counter to have a tendency to be subtlety argumentative or at least dismissive (as witnessed again later with another client, at another time). Even after explaining that I knew I had a lot of work to embark on, that I wanted to stage out the work, and start a relationship with a shop, that came highly recommended, the attitude and quote had a "here's the work to do, take it or leave it" undertone that I found unforgivable. I towed the car away and will never return. THE LONG: it's worth noting that I grew up around mechanics, know my way around cars, but am at a point where doing my own oil changes, not to mention any significant work, is beyond my physical tolerances. But I'm not stupid about cars or shops; I just didn't have a connection with any shops to guide me. Its a weekend car. Something to spin around and have a little fun. It's not a new machine. But it's also not in SUCH bad shape as to be thrown away. 2001 BMW 330ci convertible. Black. Beige interior. Clutch recently began slipping. Few codes need addressing. Couple misc Iight housings need replacing. And some cosmetic issues. I wanted a reputable shop to start a relationship with. Franks came highly recommend from another car enthusiast. Before the world flipped upside down, I had them change the oil, which was not cheap ($150+). But with an inspection, I though... it's a decent place to start. Recently, the clutch began to slip, so I called it in. Made an appointment for 3 weeks out, and was told to bring it in the day before so they could have it on hand (saving them time). I took half the day off to get the tow in. Immediately the red flags began going off, as I was there with a tow truck dropping off my vehicle, and 5-6 mechanics walked right by me and no one said anything at all. Not a "hey, how's it going?" "Oh this is the..." "are they taking care of you?" "Has anyone helped you?"... crickets. When I got to the counter, the experience verged on an argument, but was uncomfortable to say the least. She didn't believe me when I said the clutch was slipping. And when the discussion turned to the $180 diagnostic "courtesy" service... I mentioned that my friend and I, both with BMW software had ran the codes, to which I got a "So... you have $30k of diagnostics equipment?" I almost had to wipe the imprint of her sneer off my shirt. I once again mentioned that my intention was to start a long term shop relationship, and I wanted to stage out the work. I "agreed" to the "courtesy" ($180) diagnostic, and left. The call I received the next day was interesting to say the least. After a little back and forth, I mentioned that I was willing to do what was necessary, but I wanted to stage the work out, and have a game plan, so I can make it all happen. And the copy of the estimate appeared to look nothing like our conversation, no staging anything, no game plan, just a "here's what needs to be done", take it or leave it. It's also worth mentioning that the estimate was incomplete of the work that I know needs to be done, and certainly not worth the $180 diagnostic, that most shops would offer up, just to get the work. Knowing that I'd already towed it there. I'm sure they have plenty of big dollar customers that write blank checks, but I made it clear what I wanted, and they just didn't care. No one even bothered having the "let's talk about the value of the car, vs the money you're looking at throwing at it..." chat. They were just willing to take the money, and not even introduce themselves. In doing so, they lost the business. It's also with mentioning that when I picked it up, no one in the shop talked to me at all other than the passive aggressive front end girl. I called on the Friday before, as well as the day before, to give them a proper timeline and let them know, and they said they had to put things back on the car and get it ready. When I arrived, the car was still in the back, and they wouldn't pull it up until my tow showed up. The order hadn't been closed out by the tech, nor was the car put back together. So even after my tow was there, we had to wait. So, it was a disaster all the way around. I'm really disappointed more than anything. I wanted to support a local independent shop. I wanted to be close to home. I wanted to have a long term relationship with a shop I trusted. But it's not to be found there for me. I've heard that "how you do anything, is how you do everything". If that's true, I'll only say... beware of Frank's. read more

Pros: everyone was very professional and nice. They were able to see me without an appointment when my car unexpectedly broke down and gave an estimate by the next day. Cons: didn't seem to understand why the car wasn't running. For some reason, the person who reviewed the estimate with me kept fixating on the cabin air filter, which had some pollen on it. They kept saying air wasn't flowing in the car but I had the vent shut off. In the end, I went to the dealer who got the car running and replaced the brakes, for less than the estimate at Frank's to just get the car running. read more

I had an oil change done on my Cayenne about 3 months ago - came to pick it up because I was told it was ready and a warning flashed saying there was too much oil in the reservoir. Brought the car back and they "fixed" the issue. A week later I get the warning sign again but it goes away after a few days. I open the hood and there's oil splashed everywhere in the engine bay. My check engine light goes off so I brought my car to the Porsche dealership to have them look at it (car is still under warrant so I figure I have them look). Turns out the dipstick was missing and the master brake fluid cap. Had to get my brake fluid flushed because brake fluid absorbs moisture. No one has touched my car besides Frank's and Porsche so I'm pretty sure someone at Frank's forgot to put everything back. I've referred so many people to these guys and everyone says the same thing - they try to rip them off for services. I paid $200 for my lousy oil change and just recently took it to prestige auto works and paid $125. These guys used to be so good in the past I'm not sure what happened. Even my sister Jennifer Vu left a great review for this guys on yelp but felt like she was getting ripped off on her second and third visit. The pandemic hit businesses hard and I'm empathic to that but damn - this is horrible. Week 3 of Covid19 stay at home order, I needed to have my car serviced! Usually not a biggie but with today's scare of being infected, I felt somewhat safe regarding Franks auto sending me an email of reassurance that they take safety measures to limit spread of the virus. Had a bunch of work done, brakes, oil, other repairs for safety and as usual saved like $600 compared to the dealer repairs (for fun I get quotes from Niello to verify what I am saving -cha Ching). Okay so when I went to pick up my car! They had a steering wheel cover on as well as floor and seat covers. Then they took Lysol wipes and completely cleaned all surfaces of any possible contact. This is our first experience with Frank's and we were extremely satisfied with the service we received. We brought our Cayman S for a noise complaint which turned out to be a faulty clutch. We purchased the car from CarMax with MaxCare Service contract. MaxCare insisted on providing a replacement transmission instead of letting Frank's have our transmission rebuilt at a reputable shop. Nick and Sharon had to deal with MaxCare's unhelpful staff as well as with our endless follow up calls for almost four months. This is a long overdue review for a good deed done by the mechanics at Franks. My husband needed to adjust the sway bar on our truck and was without out the right tool. We were already late heading out on our trip-- so he drove to Frank's to see if they had the tool and could squeeze us in. The mechanic was more than happy to help, did the adjustment right away and didn't charge us a thing. It was a small request (maybe took 10 minutes total) but Frank's had no obligation to say yes -- but did so anyway without taking advantage of lack of planning on our part. Thanks Frank's! read more

I was visiting from out of town when my car broke down about a half mile away from Franks. I called them up and asked if they work on BMWs. Forgot to ask if they could work on it today. I drove my car very cautiously to Franks. When I arrived, they were sincere and accommodating and let me know that they would try to fit me in the same day but it was most likely going to be a next day job. A couple of hours later I receive a quote for the job as well as a visual inspection for everything else that may need replacement. There was no pressure from them to try to upsell. No bread and butter sale pressure like cabin air filter needs replacing. The next day they called me before noon and had me on the road pretty quickly with a coupon for a free car wash as well. If I give you the year make and model you can't give me a starting price on an oil change? While I appreciate a business that is thorough, I also value a business that is forthright, upfront and "frank" about pricing. It goes without saying that if one can afford a European car and is looking for service in East Sac that you're likely not on a tight budget. However for a $5 oil filter, $30 worth of oil (in my car's case) disposal fee, tax and 20 minutes of labor it seems to me it should be simple to calculate starting prices. My Porsche runs 100% better. It is like night and day comparing the performance before and after I took it to Frank's Automotive. For a couple of years, I've had a few issues that have been troubling my car. (Annoying things that have cost me quite a bit of money.) I've been taking it into a competitor for local Porsche repair mechanics and it seems that they were always fixing things other than what I brought the car in for. Each time in would cost me but it would never completely solve the problem. I mentioned the issues I've been having to another Porsche owner and he mentioned Frank's Automotive. He highly recommended that I try them. So I did some research and found highly favorable reviews. So what the heck, I took my car in. I received a call the next day and John and Nick explained to me cause of my idle problem. This is something that my previous mechanic should already have found. I pick up the car that next day. The idle issue was gone but there was another issue with the bucking when accelerating. John said to drive it for the weekend and see if it settled. I ended up having to bring the car back the following Monday. Nick took the car and said that they would thoroughly look it over which is what they did. I believe they spent about 4 hours combing through the possible causes of the bucking and hesitation. They finally determined that my connectors as the culprit. I Picked up the car for a test drove. When I came back, I was grinning from ear to ear. My Porsche is now driving like a Porsche should. To make my day, there was no charge for this service. Frank solved the long running issues in 3 days that my previous mechanic couldn't in over a year. Frank's Automotive definitely earned my loyalty. This is a first-rate repair shop. I've had both an '84 944 and an '86 944 Turbo serviced by Frank's and i'm always satisfied with their work. The price of not doing your own upkeep on a Porsche has made me scale down the monthly "donations" I make, but If I ever had the need to get any european car serviced, Franks would be my first choice. This made it hard to diagnose but they took it on and put so much effort into it! They really care about you as a person and aren't there to rip you off. 5 Stars is not enough!! Yelp should offer more stars to accurately reflect Frank's service. They are a 10 out of 10. In fact, Frank's goes to 11, they're that great. I've only been a customer for about a year. Each of my vehicles were repaired efficiently and thoroughly and I'm very happy. However, that is not why I'm writing this review. Nick the owner is Frank's son and went so far out of his way the other day to help us in a bind. He is an amazing person with a superb attitude. We moved out of Sac to Sonoma Cty and were back there on business. The car over heated and needed immediate help due to a bad fan part & faulty thermostat. Nick stayed open to make sure we got there and then helped us get a rental to get home. Had he not done that we would've ubered it to the airport to get a more expensive rental. I would give Franks 10 stars if I could. I was driving up to Sacramento from out of town, when one of the ignition coils on my BMW failed. I rolled into town on a Friday night at 4:45pm. Franks closes at 5. BUT three guys stayed late, one of them driving 45 minutes to the dealership to pick up the replacement coil. They got me back out on my way by 6, and then closed down the shop. And then they only charged me for an hour of labor. Amazing. Top notch, professional service all the way. Highly recommended. If I lived in Sacramento, I'd bring them every car issue I had.
