Frank's has a wonderful design inside. A little pricy for me, but I enjoy going there once in awhile for breakfast to go.

Donuts are good but they were out of almost everything at 9am on saturday. Also they should just take expresso drinks off the menu, I ordered a mocha and it may as well been a chocolate milk.... a large should have 2 shots and mine barely had any expresso taste. I would of let it go and hold my review for a second visit, but then as I walk out the lid pops off my coffee and spills all over me. We stopped here on our way through to Acadia. We got a molasses donut since everyone raved about them and a cinnamon biscuit. The molasses donut was moist and good but I didn't taste as much molasses as I would've expected. (I'm a big molasses cookie/donut fan) The cinnamon biscuit was a nice change of pace even though I prefer a cinnamon roll. We'll stop through again and try the apple fritter. Grew up on Franks Turkey pot pies, my dad would bring one home for supper at least once a month. Great (and cheap) place to get a sandwich on homemade bread, usually handed to you by one of the sweet older ladies on their helpful staff. Please don't come here if you're in a huge rush or are an impatient person...this is a neighborhood bakery and the customers have been coming here for years so service is specialized and staff take their time to please them. Also need to mention the awesome breakfast sandwiches and it's THE place in Bangor for your specialized cakes and freshly baked sweet treats. Amazing birthday cake for my daughter! The white cake was incredibly light and the raspberry filling is out of this world! A little tart and such raspberry freshness. The cake decorator created icing with a Northern Lights effect and a wonderful snow scene around the sides of the cake--darling snowmen complete with carrot noses, pine trees in two shades of green with snow coating the branches. I had a craving for a pastry and found this bakery nearby. I decided to get a cream horn. I excitedly awaited my turn to order. When I finally came up to the cashier, the elderly woman's expression changed from a smile to a deep frown. She asked, "What will it be?" I told her I wanted a cream horn. She curtly told me the price and set the bag down in front of me. I knew what her problem was, but I figured if the horn was good, I'd get past her terrible behavior. And I hoped wrong. The consistency of both the cream and the pastry were terrible, and the flavor was not great either. They seemed to have tons of baked goods. I really want to like them; I do. Unfortunately, the cakes that I've had ordered and eaten from Frank's are... kind of gross. Loaded with heavy, thick frosting and the cake itself has been repeatedly dry and extremely dense on three different cakes. None have been soft or fluffy in your mouth; sadly one of the three was my own wedding cake. Not impressed in the slightest, and the guest response at best a polite, 'eh'. On one cake in particular, they drowned it in 'chocolate jimmies' nearing an inch high over 1 inch frosting. That doesn't count the additional layer of frosting beneath that. The entire group who partook in the cake ended up throwing entire pieces into the garbage because it was so stomach churning. The worst part was that it was ridiculously expensive. It's discouraging to spend such an atrocious amount of money on a cake and have the people you bought it for take two or three bites before tossing it straight into the trash. The bread rolls purchased in store were also dry-- and expensive. As I said, I want to like them because I want to support local businesses. But when Hannaford can make a better tasting, softer, and more moist cake for $12.00 than Frank's can as a 'professional bakery', there's a problem. read more

The bake shop moniker is a misnomer. Yes, they make everything - bagels to wedding cakes. Since I come from the land of the bagels, theirs are OK and I am a hard judge. But they also serve sandwiches (scrambed egg and ham or sausage on a butter roll), coffee (several types) , specialty breads (blueberry is popular, of course 'cause this is Maine) and dessert everything. Okay so I need to be clear that this is strictly a review of their catering service not the restaurant. I try to be fair in my reviews so I wanted to make sure that fact was clear. The catering is terrible. The food comes and if it is hot they bring nothing to keep it hot. So essentially you have to eat it quick! If you tell them you are feeding 15 people they bring enough food for 14. No extra anything, no seconds. They portion it like a grade school cafeteria! Soda and water come sort of cold and they don't bring ice. The food is decent if you get to eat. Today I didn't. As an instructor, I wanted to make sure the students were fed first. Good thing there is a Subway next door. Oh, and for the money they charge, it is an awful deal. Too bad, because all the restaurant reviews look great, but they'll never see me in there nor will I ever use their catering service again. read more

Super Overpriced! I called this morning for a 3 tier wedding cake ($200+) and about lost it when I found out it's an extra $100 for a Sunday delivery PLUS an additional $1.50 per mile round trip. Weddings occur on Sunday and they are intentionally closed those days... Highway robbery... Go somewhere else. read more
