The restaurant inside itself doesn't look impressive or aesthetic so don't be expecting much, but if you take it to go, you can bring it to a cute park. We are conflicted. On the one hand most of the pies were delicious w/ tons of vegan options. On the other, well, here goes: So... we stopped by friday after a long day and had never been here before so we were expecting a treat! However, what actually happened is --and I kid you not-- after we brought our pies to the register and sat them down the casher literally used one of her hands to plug one of her nostrils while --and I promise I kid you not-- to blow out her other nostril into her hand! Right there! Using her hands while we were trying to check out! I mean... just what? Have you ever seen anything more disgusting? We certainly haven't. If she'll do that in public without shame can you trust that she has ever washed her hands at all? Of course when we noticed her disgusting behavior beginning we politely and slowly tried to pull the bags closer to us so she wouldn't touch them but what did she do?.. she rudely grabbed them, touched them and acted like she needed them in her hands to check us out. That IS NOT how they check out. There is no bar code. All she needed to do was SEE, NOT TOUCH the names on the bag. The ONLY reason we actually purchased what we put on the counter is that we thought because she was working the register at 6pm that she wasn't allowed in the kitchen to actually touch any food. I moved out of state in the last 2 years and have been using them to get my whoopie pie fix ever since. This was the last order. My order came but there were 4 out of 12 whoopies we didn't order. I called them today and was told they weren't going to do anything about it because shipping is too expensive. She said the packer probably just choose ones to make sure the order went out. I told her I wasn't even in a hurry. No offer of a refund. The woman I spoke to just didn't care at all. We will only eat 2 of the 4 wrong ones that were sent. What and absolute disaster. Do not miss!!! This place is amazing! If I lived in Maine I'm quite sure I would be here at least once a week! The owner was super sweet and patient with me while I tried to narrow down my choices. Often forgotten as it is located on the quieter side of Hammond Street, the Whoopie Pie Cafe is a diamond in the rough. My husband and I received a tip from a friend that WPC served a pretty legit lunch, so we decided to check it out. You can't miss the 60s-esque exterior from the road and the small two table patio that welcomes you to the Whoopie Pie Cafe. Walk inside to a very quaint room and you'll find about 6 tables and very simple wall decorations. The woman who took our order was shy but maintained a sheepish smile when telling us about her favorite whoopie pies. Hungry for lunch? Well, the Whoopie Pie Cafe makes some of the meanest grilled cheese sandwhiches I've ever eaten, and I do NOT give that compliment out to just anyone. I had the Good Eats which was essentially a barbeque chicken and bacon grilled cheese sandwich and my husband has the Blazin' Britt which was chock full of jalapenos. Holy Moly! These grilled cheese sandwiches are Texas-sized and finger lickin' good. Had it not been for the whoopie pies on the wall staring at us, we would have finished the sandwiches and not had room for dessert. We boxed up our other halves and hit the "Whoopie Wall" (trademark: Catherine A.) to pick out our goods. I went for the Blueberry Cheesecake as it was the Winner this year for the BEST Whoopie Pie in New England! Mark went for the Dark Seas (runner-up for best name). Mine was a blueberry cake with creamcheese frosting (more like buttercream!) and Mark's was a chocolate cake with caramel and sea salt filling. Buyer Beware: these $3 morsels of heaven will fill you up FAST. Feeling cheap? They have a wall of "Day Old" whoopie pies they sell for half off. I think this cafe is often overlooked as a lunch time hang out and that stigma needs to be erased. My family and I ordered a bunch of flavors: Pina colada Raspberry Original Mint Peanut butter Black cherry They're all very different but so delicious. Was visiting family in the Bangor area and while walking around the downtown area my wife and I noticed Bangin Whoppie. We both stopped in and noticed many different whoppie pie varieties. I had a Straight Up Which consisted of a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting and it was spot on. The cake was moist filled with a delicious vanilla frosting. I love the frosting so a bit more would have made the desert over the top. My wife decided on the Chocolate State and was a bit disappointed to find the cake a bit on the dry side. I, however loved it! I will defiantly return to try one of their other types the next time I am in the Bangor area again. read more

Just had the most bizarre experience today with this place. I went in to look at their pies because I wanted to buy some for my coworkers. However they looked really small and over priced and old. So came back and right when I got in the car some lady runs out and stands in front of my window. As I roll it down, she says she saw my taking a soda and whoopi pie. I was taken aback, I didn't know how to respond. I should have asked for proof but I was so surprised I showed her the receipt for my soda that I bought at the supermarket across the street where I was parked. She didn't apologize, instead asked me if I wanted to buy some whoopi pies. I couldn't believe it, after she had the nerve to accuse me. Never going back, think again if you are planning on going. Inedible. They served us under-baked soggy bread. They bake their own bread and do a poor job of it. Soggy, spongy undercooked bread was what we both got on our sandwiches. I decided to give Whoopie Pie Cafe a try the next day. The interior was cute and decorated for Valentines. There were no $1.50 day-old Whoopie Pies available when we went on Feb 16. They must've been busy over V-day. Hubby and I each ordered grilled cheeses. He ordered the Overload with roast beef, turkey, green pepper, onion - I'm missing a few other ingredients.. and I had the Dazzling Daph with grilled chicken, mozzarella and pesto. A decent view of the kitchen, I felt the first twinge of disappoint when we watched a kid behind the counter sprinkle shredded cheese onto our sandwiches. We waited 10 minutes for our to-go order. Got home to discover the sandwiches were inedible! The sandwiches were made on undercooked bread. The loaf they used for both our sandwiches needed another 5 good minutes in the oven. Shame on them for serving their baking catastrophe to a paying customer!! As a home-baker, I would've thrown a loaf like that out! The cheese was disappointing, and the minced grilled chicken was a shock as it wasn't described as such. Wished we had ordered our meals for eat-in instead of to-go so I could've asked for a refund. Wonderful selection of whoopie pies. A lil pricy for the size of them but we loved ours: blueberry with maple filling and chocolate with mint filling. Whoopie for whoopie pies! My daughter's swim and dive team was competing versus UMaine and I thought it would be fun to greet the team with Maine's official state treat, the whoopie pie! The entire team loved these whoopie pies! I got a variety of whoopies pies - Plain Jane (traditional chocolate cake with vanilla cream filling), Peanut Butter (chocolate cake with peanut butter filling), Ravishing Red (red velvet cake with cream cheese filling), and couldn't resist the seasonal Pumpkin Chip (pumpkin chocolate chip cake with cream cheese filling). I was thanked so many times for getting the team whoopie pies and the pies received so many compliments, especially the Pumpkin Chip and Plain Jane. The storefront is very cute and has so many different flavors of whoopie pies available to purchase! There are also local Maine gifts for purchase inside the store. We went in after see some of their creations on facebook. After ordering 2 sodas, 2 Caesar salads and 2 sandwiches, one full and one half our bill was $35. Our Caesar salads where some chopped Romain, sprinkle parmigian(like kraft sprinkle cheese) and some hannaford style croutons. The salads were $6.00 (worth about 1.50). Then we got our sandwiches. Mine was an apricot grilled cheese(bag shredded cheddar) that was 8 bucks. All in all the meal was a rip off. The whoopee pies are made with box mixes. They are not home made and they are $3 a piece. The selection wasn't huge, maybe 4-5 flavors all pre-packaged in sealed plastic bags. I went with the Plain Jane (chocolate cake, vanilla filling). It was pretty good but could have tasted a bit fresher if they hadn't been pre-packaged beforehand which I think affected the texture of the cake portion of the pie. read more

I have had quite a few of the flavors of whoopie pies, so I figured I should stop in to the cafe. For dessert, I picked my favorite, the dark chocolate w/ maple filling. For lunch I ordered the BLT. When asked if I wanted the half or the full, I said full.... I should have asked how big the half would be. The full was HUGE. You know, you'd think that given the name, this place would be just whoopie pies. They're not. Don't get me wrong - there are whoopie pies, and a lot of them, and they're really, really good. BUT, the sandwiches here are incredible. They make their own bread and aside from the slices being HUGE (really, a full size sandwich is basically two normal sized sandwiches, size-wise), it has the smell and taste that only comes with super fresh, homemade bread.
