Frank's is a quick-serve restaurant in a college town. And, in that, it earns five stars. I can't tell you the food is the best I've ever had. I can, however, tell you that walking in offers an immediate flashback to my college experience. The steak and cheese is tasty, but bready. The service is pleasantly unobtrusive (my preferred dining experience). The place seems clean and well-organized. The owners are almost always around and are truly eager to serve their guests. Stopped in here because it was fairly close to the highway. Was at first off put by the old decor, but the restaurant was clean, the pizza was good, and the service was also good. They have self serve drinks which I also appreciated. We got a large onion and garlic pizza to split and it was around 15 dollars and plenty of food for two big eaters. The pizza could have had a little less cheese and sauce, but other than that pretty good place. read more

The pizzas are very large, which I guess is their main selling point. Old school pizza, standard toppings, nothing gourmet about it. Difficult to put together a tasty vegetarian pizza from what they have on offer. A few steps up from chain pizza but a few steps down from proper exponents of the genre. read more

If you're looking for an authentic New York pizza and not the chain restaurant rubbish that's taken over the country pretending to be pizza (e.g. Dominos, Papa Johns, Pizza Hut), you won't find anything better in the area. These guys have been knocking out fantastic pizza and subs for over 30 years. And even better, the price is right. Frank's unique twist on his pizza (IMHO) is that is sauce is slight sweet. The dough is perfection and the toppings are generous. If you leave here hungry, you have only yourself to blame. Franks would be a top pizza/sub location in any city - Lexington is lucky to have them. read more

this was our second time visiting downtown lexington & both times we did carry out here. we got pizza each time so i dont know how their other menu items are. its ok, its good. we got thin crust & deep dish. deep was really thick & doughy. not like unos or pizza hut. the thin crust was firm around the edges but doughy too. perhaps a little undercooked. we got 4 pizzas & i heard several comments about not being cut well. beyond the food, the location is just past the traffic light & is not connected to that lot. no fault to franks but really annoying to circle the lot trying to get out. read more

Frank's was my go to for calzones back at VMI in the late 1980's. We were recently back for my 30th reunion in April. I have been trying calzones all over, hoping to get one that can compare to Frank's, but NO LUCK. Our first lunch in town, straight to Frank's. They have the pizza crust down but they over cheese the pizza and the sauce is bland. If they are going for a NY style pizza then the crust is close, but they need to to pull back on the cheese and make the sauce a bit more tangy. Otherwise, their dinners: Chicken Parm and Lasagna are good. But I had a bad Egg Plant Parm dinner. They did credit the meal. read more

Recently we stayed for one night in Lexington, we found out from many locals that Franks was the place to get the best pizza in town. They were right! The wait was a little long, but they were busy. The lady at the counter was chewing her gum in a very obvious manner while taking orders and talking to people, very distracting and disgusting, but she as well as the rest of the staff were friendly. Continue on to the Wal-Mart. It has better Italian food in the freezer section! I had a pickup order that took 35 minutes. I wouldn't have minded if it was busy, but the place was as lively as Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. After FINALLY getting my food, I went to the car to inspect the order for accuracy. The cold sub I ordered was toasted and very not cold....no, it was totally charred and black. I took it back in and the waitress acted like I was lying about how I had ordered the sub and called one of the cooks over to ask about it. The two of them spoke in Spanish, then the male motioned to the two booths of employees stuffing their faces and said "The bitches didn't mark cold or hot" as he apologized and headed back to remake my sub. I later learned that the toasted/burned sub was probably a strategic move to mask the extremely stale bread used. I also ordered the fettucine alfredo, which has been very good from Frank's in the past, but tonight it was terrible. It had no garlic and tasted like warm skimmed milk and melted margarin. Frank's has been hit or miss in the past and tonight's miss will be our last at Frank's. What a waste of $20.00! read more

So good, so much, and for so little. The subs were great. The pasta was great. The garlic twists, really great. The fries were okay though. But it didn't matter I still ate like two bags. My family and I ate here yesterday because we wanted something affordable, yet different from your typical fast food place. Let me just say we were IMPRESSED! The pizza was hot, fresh, and delicious! We also had garlic bread which was to die for. Not only was the food and customer service spot on, but the price was too. 3 of us ate for right under $20. Pizza is good, but I LOVE their pasta. I almost always get baked spaghetti with italian sausage. This comes with salad and bread. The salad is nothing special. It is a side salad, after all. The garlic bread is great. I have also tried the veggie calzone, which was very good. Neat little gem we found after walking out of the KFC next door (ignored for 10 minutes during a shift change or something - no communication at all). Quick service, good atmosphere and very tasty meals. Sat down with family. No one greeted or offered service, waited 5-7 minutes and was ignored. The server glanced a mean look and continued to ignore us, and proceeded to talk with a group of friends that walked in. Person behind the counter was reading something and other server was doing nothing either. Place was practically empty, 0 stars if possible, but put two up so filter does not remove it. I Attended a game at the nearby William and Lee College today, and after the game about 40 of us headed to Franks. When we pulled up I thought this is gonna be bad. First of all I have to say I hate that look of panic and sorrow the falls over the workers faces when I walk into a restaurant with a huge crowd. It did not happen here. We all ordered quickly and fresh delicious food started leaving the kitchen within minutes! My husband and I ordered slices of delicious chewy New York style pizza and a calzone. My sister ordered an Italian salad that looked delicious. I don't usually drool over salads, but they weren't stingy with the olives like Olive Garden. There was ONE waitress, and she was kind, quick, and helpful! I've been looking for a perfect pizza crust since I moved to VA. I found it there! To bad it's almost 3 hours from my house. Go and enjoy! These people have a system and it works. My one flaw was it seems the toppings are added to the slice to order. I kinda like my meat stuck to the melty cheese.
