Nice local bar, cool bartender and lots of pool tables, two STEEL dart boards and live music and karaoke on several nights. My kind of Bar!

Visiting The Brick and Barrel Public House in Leesburg, FL reminded me of my recent trip to…read moreScotland. They offered a full service bar with a wide variety of food. It felt like stepping back in time. If you want a nice quiet afternoon, go to Leesburg. Walk the quiet streets of this lazy town, and visit this pub. People go and stay for hours and no one rushes you. I met a friend here. We enjoyed a nice meal and had a nice quiet place to sit, talk and catch up on each other's lives. The food was very "English." We split a gigantic pretzel and fish and chips. Had we both ordered our own, it would have been too much food. The waitress was very accommodating. She didn't rush us and was there whenever we needed anything. Although we stayed for about 2 hours, other customers were there longer than us! I definitely will return. It is about and hours drive from Orlando, yet a stark contrast.

The restaurant is a bit nostalgic with photos of past decades. While one long room serves meals and seconds as a bar, an adjacent room has a billard table with a live band, which is open late on weekends. The Simply Grilled Mahi Sandwich was nicely prepared, as was the B&B Cheeseburger with Bacon. When it came to dessert, our waitress suggested the Cinnamon Churro Donuts, which were slightly sinful, but greatly delicious.

I had previously really liked the Pool Bar Restaurant, but after my experience there yesterday, I…read moredon't think I will ever eat there again. I ordered the Cobb Salad. It arrived looking wonderful with nice chunks of turkey. I took a bite and also got some avocado that was very overripe. Took another bite, same thing, and then I realized there was no avocado! The turkey was as soft and mushy as an overripe avocado... it was absolutely disgusting and sickening! The server brought me a new salad made with chicken, instead of turkey & said the manager had been shown my salad. The manager did not bother to come speak with me. I was still upset and worried that I would be getting sick from the turkey, & called today to speak to the manager. He acknowledged that he should have come to the table & claimed there had been nothing wrong with the turkey beyond it had been sitting too long in brine.... I cannot imagine how many days sitting in brine it took to turn chunks of turkey breast into literal mush.

Drove over 30 minutes to try the BOGO burgers. Not sure it was worth the trip…read more I always assume "specials" are priced low (for what you get) to draw people in to try the place. There was just no wow factor in these burgers. Swiss muchroom burger had good flavor, but the burger itself was very small. They tried to hide it in an over sized bun. The bourbon burger had a funny taste, but same small burger. The coldslaw was a joke. Came in a plastic cup, with a lid and the cup was probably 1/3 of a measuring cup. TINY. The special drew me in, but it did not make a repeat customer out of me. $16 for one burger (out of the BOGO timing) is way over priced.

Alligator country! So im here visiting with friends who live near this place. We walk in and literally the record player scratches to a halt and everyone in the bar (all of 4 of them) stop, turn and stare at us. This is where it gets fun! People obviously know we're not from around these parts and quickly walk up to us and start introducing themselves. And here are the names they used... Giggalo Jim, Gator Mike and a few more i cant remember. Im not making this up. It was hard to keep a straight face. So we have some cocktails and play some pool and eat some of the best boiled peanuts that i've ever eaten. A bit later Gator Mike walks up to us and says "Ever been on an air boat?" We all reply "no" and he proceed to say, i know a guy who has one down the road who would love to take you guys out on it. Now i know I've been told not to go with strangers ever since i was a kid, but dammit if i didn't want to go on an air boat! I'm 6'6" and about 260lbs, so if they can lift me and kidnap me, they can have me! I just hope they have a strong back! So we all look at each other and tell Gator Mike that we're game to go do this air boat ride in the middle of a swamp, infested with alligators and with a guy we've never met. Here we go.... Gator Mike drives in a car ahead of us and we follow him to the edge of a swamp where we see his friend. We get out, get introduced and off goes Mike. The air boat "captain" tells us to get on and buckle up, we do. he goes to the front of the air boat, open a compartment, pulls out a red cup, a bottle of Kessler Wiskey, some ice, fills the cup, fired up the boat and off we go. Im thinking to myself at this point that we're all dead and about about to be fed to the gators. But that wasnt the case at all. this guy was funny and actually pretty safe. we saw tons of gators, i got some great pictures (http://www.jskeffphoto.com/skeff/travels/florida/florida_07a.jpg, and http://www.jskeffphoto.com/skeff/travels/florida/gatora.jpg) and it was all crazy and fun and its a great story as you all can tell from this review. So if you're ever in the middle of no where in northern Florida, go here and enjoy the locals!

We ordered the Lobster Roll with mayo and the Clam Plate. The Lobster was $45.00. It was a generous portion and it was very fresh. Was good, the portion could've been bigger. They had very good flavor, not as big as back in Boston. It also came with fries and coleslaw. We each had three drinks each. In all the bill was $146.00. Didn't know we could make reservations, but it didn't sound like those were very reliable on this particular night. The crab legs were GREAT--served alongside a generous helping of delicious fries. Never had to wait for a refill on the crab, as our bartender(s) checked in on us frequently. We were there for HH, so also enjoyed inexpensive drinks--Yuengling for hubby and white wine for me. Both Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay were good. Fun conversations with both staff and fellow diners. We will do this again, next time we are in the area.
