Two hours…read morelater, the kitchen plumbing was found to be gushing, so I ran downstairs to find the ceiling of my sewing/craft/costume/evening gown/guest room was collapsing with gallons of water pouring out onto a large room of precious objects, ruining walls and brand new carpet. So began a horrible year of having both my kitchen and guest/sewing room being reconstructed. Meanwhile, racks of clothing and shelves of patterns, material, bed, pictures on the wall, and racks of thread were soaked. He blamed a faulty washer, but never showed it to me. I had to cancel my brother and his family visiting for Thanksgiving - after I had bought hundreds of dollars of food - my brother who I had not seen in a long time. A couple of months into restoration, the kitchen plumbing started to leak again, the day before I was to leave for a 2 week vacation. The pipes now make a bloop sound every half hour, or so. He claimed not to hear it, but his employees heard it. He's a slimy liar. When he called a few years later wanting to check and service the system, I put him off because I can't trust him. I live in constant fear that the whole thing is going to explode again. If I hadn't been there and wanted to show the contraption under the kitchen sink, it would've ruined the entire condo instead of a third of it - therefore, going away is fraught with fear of what might be happening in my home. He did not show sympathy, just slimy excuses, leaving me with a years-long horror show.

Right there on the company iPad, that's handed to you by the guys who just fixed your expensive af water issue. Can't remember if it was 10% 15% 20%...or 15% 20% 25%. What I do remember is how freaking awkward it felt. When I go out to eat, get my hair done, or grab a coffee...I know these things are a part of an industry that relies on tips. When I have service guys over to my house (new homeowner, so it's more common than I'd like) I often cash tip a $20 or more depending on the work and time. But to be asked to tip 20% on $500 or $1000 dollars unexpectedly--do that math. Ugh. The guys were great and their work was solid. It's not on them for a crappy ending to the service call. If Great Lakes would have mentioned their tipping expectation in advance, like when I scheduled or when they sent a confirmation, it would have been a better experience. Sharing so you don't feel caught off guard the way I was.
