The start of every season, I would change the spark plug, change the air filter and add oil in my 10 year old Toro mower. But last August near the end of the season, my lawn mower wouldn't start. On a recommendation I had my lawn mower 'fixed' by Franks last August 2017. I paid $25 to have Franks pick up the mower because I wouldn't be able to lift the mower into my car. I received a call and was told it would cost $120 to fix it. He told me I run it out of oil. Only thing is I put oil in. There must have been a leak that I wasn't aware of. I had to make a decision quick because Frank was leaving for vacation in a few days, so I agreed to the fix. About three days later I received a call was told that it would leak oil and may smoke, but it will run. It cost me another $25 to have it dropped off. Well, it worked the first time I ran it after the fix. The next week when I tried to start it, it wouldn't start. It cost me $170 for it to work only once. I should have called and complained but I wasn't going to pay another $50 to have it picked up and dropped off. Needless to say I don't have a working lawn mower for this season. I am afraid that I am not at all happy with Franks service. read more

first of all make sure you call first, the hours are wrong on some of the webpages. I drove from Niles so it's a long drive only to find out they closed 2 hours earlier. So I took it back the next weekend, explained the issue, got a call in a few hours that it was ready to go. No call to explain the issue and offer an estimate. I was told the gaskets were in backwards, for $60 (cash only btw) they flipped them and told me everything was working well. Took it home and the same problem happens, it runs fine for about 3 minutes and then dies. Sorry Frank, you had your one chance to fix it right and you failed, I'm not making yet another drive over there. I'll find someone a little closer to home and perhaps not believe the Yelp reviews quite as much read more

I had repairs needed on my lawnmower and weed whacker. A friend suggested using Franks on Lake St in Hanover Park. I called him and he gave me a VERY reasonable quote. He was out to pickup both at my home the next day. Few days later it was fixed as well as he cleaned it up for me and did other maintenance I needed. He went well beyond what I was expecting and the price was great. So happy to find shops that offer this kind of service and don't try to get tons of money from you. I took my Honda lawn mower to Frank's as it would not start. I had taken the mower to another company in Elgin twice in the last 3 weeks. The Elgin company kept the mower for 10 days the first time, picked it up and it worked once, second time kept it for 4 days, picked it up it ran once. I dropped the mower at Frank's at about 1pm Thursday the 18th he called at about 4:30 pm the mower was fixed and ready to be picked up!! He fixed the electronic ignition and the problem of it not starting at all. He even went out and got the parts I needed so I would not have to wait. We just had our rather old Honda lawnmower repaired by Frank's. Super quick service, very reasonably priced. Our mower wasn't starting and it was repaired the same day. After dropping the mower off, I was called with info on the issue and the cost to repair it. I also asked to have the oil changed and the blade sharpened. They added the extra services at a small cost and the mower was still ready on the same day. The mower repair shop we used to use was a lot more expensive and the time to complete was a lot longer. These guys are awesome! I found them through Yelp. As you can see, there are a ton of great reviews. I hadn't used my snowblower in two years. When I tried to start it, unsurprisingly it didnt work. I was looking in Yelp and other sites for a place that could fix my snowblower. Nobody had reviews like Frank's. I can confirm that the reviews are well deserved. They came and picked up my snowblower on a Thursday night and delivered it back to me (and started it for me) on the next day, Friday evening. And this was the day before a projected snowstorm of 5 to 10 inches. Relief for me! They were kind, professional, and genuinely appreciative of me and my business (I was equally appreciative of the way they run their busines and the way they treated me). It's nice to see that in this day and age of corporate greed. Speaking of greed, the day before a projected storm they could have gotten away with charging too much but their prices were still very reasonable. When I saw all the 5-star reviews on Yelp and Google, I thought that it sounded too good to be true. I dropped off my mower on Monday afternoon and it was ready to pickup less than 24 hours later at the exact price I was quoted. Frank is a great guy, gave some maintenance tips and we hung out and chatted for a few minutes before he helped me load up the mower in my truck. If I could give Frank 6 or 7 stars I would. Frank is INCREDIBLY honest and tells you from the beginning - he is giving you options and not trying to take your money. Who says that? That is how AWESOME Frank is as a businessman and as a person. I brought in a Toro Lawnmower that I bought at a garage sale for $50. It worked great last summer but wouldn't start for this season. I also brought int a Ryobi weed wacker that was not working. Frank repaired both on the SAME DAY! Who does that? Once I came to pick up my Lawnmower and weed wacker, He showed me all the repairs made, taught me how to use my weed wacker and told me if there are ever any questions just to call him. I want to go to the Yelp community and let them know he is the best repair guy for any lawn mower, weed wacker, or snow blower. I went home and used my Toro and it was literally like new. 1 gentle pull and the lawnmower was on, all the wheels were greased and the blade was sharp. I obviously have no complaints at all. That includes a couple snow blowers, a riding mower, and even a small 3hp outboard motor he agreed to fix even though boat motors are not among his normal repairs. I had a generator and a power washer that needed service. I know most of the small engine shops are kinda of sketchy, so the great reviews for Frank's were encouraging. It was a hike for me, but i brought the items in on my lunch on a Friday. There was a lot of mowers & the likes, and there was even a commercial landscaper dropping something off, so I was feeling good. I explained my concerns. Regarding the power washer it has sat out and frozen over the winter, he said he would look at it, but that it was probably not an economic worthwhile repair and I would be better off buying a new one, so I kind of wrote that off. He said I would have a call by the end of the day with the cost and game plan. No call. I called the next day and was told they didnt look at yet and are going on vacation for a week and would look at it when they get back. Not exactly what I expected nor was I informed that it would be sitting for a week - I wouldn't have taken the time to get up there on my lunchtime if I knew it would just sit. I didn't get a call about it being ready, so I called about 10 days later and they said the generator is working and they didn't fix the pressure washer. In hindsight, I am sure the generator was probably a really easy fix and I should have attempted to do it myself instead of paying them $90 to do it. I was going to leave the power washer as a donation for parts, but decided to bring it home and look at it myself. I drained the carb, but in new gas and it fired up in two pulls. Then I looked on amazon.com and found an new OEM pump kit for $94 (shipped). The kit arrived in two days and bolted right up. Within 6 minutes I had a brand new machine up and running. I am glad I saved the $425 on a new one and will get my hands dirty myself next time. Live & learn. I guess my expectations, from reading all the glorious reviews, were just set too high. They did fix one of my issues, so that is a good thing. PS Cash - no credit cards. read more
