Maaaaaaannnn listening. Fo you know how HARD it is out here to find good, meaty oxtail with flavor AND rice and peas well seasoned? Pssshh....5 stars just for that! Oxtail was tender,like tenderisim tender. Well seasoned and moist. The rice and peas actually had some damn flavor to it. I read it an another review and was like yeah, aight, we shall see lol I love rice and peas. The issue is that I rarely encounter a well done rice and peas besides myself when I crave it so bad I'm forced to make it myself. This, however, was nice and coconutty. I can taste the all spice but not overwhelmingly. The seasoning was on point. Cabbage was cabbage, no remarks. The plaintain was nice and ripe. I didn't mind paying the $2 for the plaintain (even though I'm from the 10 for $1 era) because of the portion size. Everything was well packed. No spills or leaks. Very great and pleasantly surprised to actually get my money's worth here. read more

1st time ordering food for myself here & I was throughly shocked on how good it was. This is my go to spot for goat head soup for my mother & aunts...I don't eat that. But they rave about the soup here. Yesterday I decided to try the oxtails here for the 1st time. Everything was so good. Oxtails was seasoned well. Thank goodness I didn't taste any ketchup in the gravy. Most people use that to stretch the oxtail gravy which is horrible. Rice & peas was very good. Veggie was good as well. This is one of the very few places that still sell small plates for oxtails. I will always come back for the soup, now I can get the oxtails for myself. read more

I'm just going to start by saying that I've been coming to Franks for over 10 yrs now. I always order the same ting and that's because it's consistently good. The fried fish and the festival. Spot on every time for 10 yrs. Nobody makes festival like them in the Bronx in my opinion. I've tried other Jamaican spot and Franks got it. However, for 10 steady years, the customer service has always stifled this business in my opinion. The women that are in the front when you first walk in are just poorly trained for "front of the house" etiquette. The attitude is one of disgust and disgrace if you're a woman(They talk to and are much more interactive with the males customers) I witnessed this on several occasions. It's just not a friendly place to patronize. If you're looking for good fish and great porridge in the morning without being greeted or asked "what can they get you", this is your place! I know the men are the chefs in the back cooking up the food, but I would suggest hiring men for the front counter as well. The men are always much more pleasant than the women. I usually don't eat from restaurants that carry a B Grade from the board of health, especially with my extensive experience in the hospitality industry. But I made an exception because I enjoy the breakfast that much. Please consider hiring some friendly young men to handle the customers who want to support this business. read more

Very good place years ago but greatly overtime this place took a nosedive.Last time I went there order my typical jerk chicken with peas and rice and the fopd had a bit off taste like it's been sitting around awhile.The flavors of the jerk seasoning was a bit lost in translation and the rice was cold and dry,the peas were tough,the rice were flavorless and bland,not to mention the bad customer service and rudeness from the snotty nosed chick who works there.This place needs a major upheaval in terms of food quality and service,it's sad how this place had went down. read more

So I had a taste for Jerk Chicken and a friend suggested this dump...OMG The food was HORRIBLE to say the least. I ordered the Jerk Chicken & Peas N Rice.... SIMPLE. Once the order was done the lady behind the counter didn't even open the carton so I could see my order which was ODD..Now I know why. The food was a mess!! The jerk chicken wasn't Jerked at ALL. It was baked in a oven NOT on a grill. It was Dry n Hard with hardly no sauce. The rice OMG DRY n gooey...No gravy or anything. Also No steamed vegetables or plantains. I would NOT recommend this place at all. I will continue to drive to Utica avenue Brooklyn for REAL off the grill jerk chicken with amazing Jerk/bbq sauce. Whenever I'm home in the Bronx this is a must go. This made it all the way back to Florida and my belly is well happy. I had hominy on my way to the airport. It was so good. On the strength of flavor alone, Soup Bowl would *easily* earn a 5 star rating. It's some of the best Jamaican food I've had outside of my mom's house. Ask for their pumpkin and carrots with your vegetable sides, I promise, they are transformative. What gives Soup Bowl a 4 instead of a 5, in my opinion is the sluggish service. It is well known that you should call ahead for seafood dishes, they suggest 15 minutes. However, on several occasions, I've called while more than 45 minutes away and had to wait on shrimp dishes an additonal 15-20 minutes once there. In fact, earlier this spring, I called ahead for garlic shrimp while leaving the Palisades Mall in West Nyack, NY. With traffic on the Tappan Zee keeping us stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic for 30 minutes I was hoping to swoop into Soup Bowl, pay and leave. To my surprise, I waited an additional 20 minutes for a dish I was told would be ready 'soon'. I make shrimp at home frequently and even thawing frozen shrimp and then cooking it wouldn't take over an hour to prepare. If they can speed up their kitchen, this place would be on their way to success. read more

I order from them on UberEats ALL THE TIME! I always get soup with my oxtails with white rice. The dumplings are a little over fried and oily. The salt fish wasn't cleaned off enough to get a lot of the salt taste off and it was extremely oily. read more

Today is my first time ordering from this restaurant. I ordered the king fish with white rice and veggies. OMG, I AM NOT exaggerating when I say the food was terrible. The fish tasted bland and strange, like it was freaking fake fish. The texture of the fish felt like sponge soaked in water. THE FSH WAS FAKE!!!!! I am saving the uneaten potion to send to a lab somewhere for testing. After biting into that fish it left my tongue swollen. I live around the corner from this place and i say the food is pretty good,nothing real fancy, but taste like real back home Jamaican food,not no artificial golden Krust stuff and the prices are reasonable too,a $6 dollar small plate and you get a good portion of food,its a pick up and go spot when you just too tired to be behind a stove and cook for the night after a hard days work,they stay open long hours too. read more

Oxtail was on point againnn. Went with same friend and he said jerk chicken was even better than the last time. Place was super busy but food came out no more than ten minutes after ordering, so fast. Saw Joe again and he was all smiles. He remembered us and gave just enough of that family love to complement the delicious food. Eventually I'll try the jerk chicken but it's tough to leave the oxtail even for a meal. I'll be the first to say "Meh." The only reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 2 is because my fiance really liked his jerk chicken--not loved, but really liked. My brown stew chicken was underwhelming. Nothing particularly yummy about the flavor and the texture was terrible. It had clearly been baked dry, then sitting the gravy, probably underneath a heat lamp. I had to throw out large strips and chunks of meat because it was tough and unappetizing. I recently ordered from this spot through Uber eats and I was very disappointed. I ordered jerk chicken and white rice as well as the jerk oxtail ( I was being adventurous). I was not satisfied with the portion size as well as the quality of food. The jerk chicken I received was all bones and I hardly received any oxtail and it was dry. Oxtail should not be dry .. not in the slightest. I also received cabbage in one plate and not the other , I don't know if this was by mistake or what. I took a chance ordering from here and I won't take it again. It was very overpriced for the amount of food I received. Honestly I ended pouring bbq sauce on top of everything to add flavor. Not the best Jamaican restaurant at all. Every time I eat there I have diarrhea.
