Small unassuming bakery in a small coastal town. My husband and I came through Point Arena for a stretch break while driving up to Redwoods National Park. I noticed a queue outside of Franny's, so I just got into line and waited, not even knowing what I was waiting for! Let me tell you, this review is coming almost 2 years later because the baked good I discovered here was so delightful and so life changing that it has resulted in an insatiable obsession for me. I went up to the counter finally and, feeling overwhelmed by the selection and display case, asked the cashier what they would recommend. I ended up with a croissant, a cookie, and the cashier-recommended canneles. I didn't even eat the cannele until the following day, and it was pure bliss. Cute little pasty about 2in tall with a crispy, caramelized experiour and moist custardy 'cake' on the inside. I had never eaten anything like it. To this day, I search far and wide for canneles and will go to great lengths to secure them. They are a rare delight simply because of the artistry and precision and expensive tools/ingredients required to make them. Franny's has a special spot in my heart for introducing me to the magical little pastry, canneles. For that, Franny gets all the stars! read more

My friends and I loved visiting Franny's cup and saucer, while in town over the weekend. As soon as you walk in your greeted with lots of fun knickknacks, as well as an amazing assortment of pastries and desserts. They have everything from cupcakes to calzones to pies to breakfast biscuits. Needless to say we ordered a ton and can't wait to return when I'm back in town in the future! The girl at the front desk was super kind, and there was a steady flow of traffic throughout the entire time we were there. It's quite small on the inside but filled with lots of goodies! I admittedly had low expectations after seeing the very small space and huge menu. I thought it might be a business that specialized in fancy sweet treats and offered savory pieces just to say they offer them - but I was delightfully surprised by their savory options! Their savory shelves were almost barren when we got there on a Friday afternoon! I immediately had my eye on the bacon slipper, which is apparently a crowd favorite but also a little pricey for $12. After asking the cashier for recommendations, he personally liked the savory pudding which was DEFINITELY the best savory treat I've had in a while - and at the great price of $6! I dream about the savory pudding. I would drive all the way back for the savory pudding. I really wished there was a place to relax and eat my pastries around Franny's or Main St in Point Arena. Franny is probably the sweetest person I've ever met! We got married on Sept. 28 in Gualala and knew exactly who we were going to work with for our wedding cake. Our niece actually works at Franny's so it was a no brainer for us. But even though Franny is a good friend, she is a fantastic baker! We told her we wanted something tropical for our theme and gushed at the idea of a key-lime and piña colada cake (2 tiers). Franny had great ideas and knew exactly what to do with our vision. She even suggested decorating the cake with a little half coconut! We gave her flowers the day before and she used them to make the cake gorgeous! The cake was delicious and had a very light flavor. We didn't want it to be super heavy as the day was actually quite warm, so having a light and refreshing cake was perfect. Franny was so easy to work with and communicated well about our desires and logistics, such as getting the cake to our venue at the specified time and letting us borrow (for a deposit) some cake supplies (cake stand). It really took a lot of stress off of us and we're so happy we chose Franny to make our day so sweet! read more

We reached out to Franny for a wedding cake for our fall 2026 wedding. She was so prompt and communicative through all of her emails back and forth with us, she took her time to explain her cake sampling process and the different flavors she offered. When it was time to pick up our samples, she went above and beyond to accommodate our availability as we were coming in from out of town, and was so incredibly warm, kind, and bubbly in person! Her samples were all beautiful, organized and delicious! While we didn't end up using her bakery for our wedding cake (purely due to logistics/location of our venue) she was an absolute dream to work with and I'd highly recommend paying her a visit, especially if you're looking for a wedding cake bakery in the area! read more

NOTE: CASH ONLY! I really wanted to like this place! It has a tiny inside area to order and otherwise no real seating. I saw the great reviews and there was a line out the door. It seemed like things were selling out so I'm hoping I just had a bad batch. We ordered the bacon slipper, a cinnamon cream cheese danish, and a scone. The scone was my favorite part. It wasn't too dry and had a good amount of flavor. The danish was fine. I think I personally just don't love danishes but my partner didn't really appreciate either. The biggest disappointment was the bacon slipper. It was practically inedible. Something about the tomato tasted a little rancid and the bacon was far too sweet. Other people seemed to love these so I'm hoping we just had a bad tomato slice that overpowered everything else. They have fun latte flavors but we did not get any being short on cash. I would give this place one more chance and try a latte. read more

Franny's Cup And Saucer is a fantastic bakery and a must-visit when we vacation in the Manchester area. Alas, we can never manage to get there early enough for maximum selection (who wakes up early on vacation!), so we rolled in about 12:30 on a Wednesday. By that time you have to pick from what's left, but fortunately everything was good. We found a couple cookies (peanut butter chocolate chip, oatmeal w/apricot & cinnamon), some bakery items (double pistachio apricot chiffon cake, almond marzipan princess cake), and some savories (bread pudding with bacon, frittata of the day). Considering the time, this was a pretty good score. Really, everything was to die for! I especially loved the peanut butter cookie and princess cake. And the savory items meant a couple great meals with no cooking required. Cash/check only is the biggest thing to remember, and it's not like there are a lot of easy cash options in this remote area. As a result we had to carefully make our selections so as not to use up all our cash - really Franny, your lost sales must far exceed the credit card fees. Plus, we were a little taken aback when the server manually added up our order to come up with the total owed! Old school is one thing, but we would feel much more comfortable leaving that task to the computers. Five stars for the bakery, minus one star for the payment process. read more

So cute and so delicious. We had cupcakes, strawberry rose for me and a hummingbird for my sister. They were both gorgeous and delish. Not sure you can go wrong, because everything looked amazing. We also got some preserves (a gift). The flavors were unique. Hopefully my friend will enjoy the basil nectarine I settled on. They are right on Point Arena's main drag. Bake My Day We travel to a lot of coastal towns along the PCH, and almost every one has their own little town bakery that is allegedly "the best ever," and other such superlatives. The truth is that by and large most of them are really just slightly above-average, as the lack of competition/comparisons really drives the hype up to ridiculous levels--and then there's Franny's in Pt Arena. On our first visit we were turned-off by the slow-moving line and went elsewhere, but after our second, more successful, attempt we were hooked! The Good: *Bacon Slippers are my everything! Spicy, thick-cut bacon and cheese in a sweet, flaky turnover pastry shell rocked our taste buds! *Chocolate Cinnamon Roll was a bit bizarre to look at, as it resembled a sleeping hedgehog, but one bite and we were true believers. Terrific balance of cinnamon and chocolate in traditional yeasty shell was truly scrumptious. *Fruit Slippers and Wild Blueberry Danish were both excellent and worth the calories. *Packed with veggies and cheese, the Savory Bread Pudding was surprisingly good! I wasn't really sure what to expect, as I'd only had sweet bread puddings in the past, but it was really tasty. *Friendly service and lots of free street parking. The Meh: *Frittata was OK, as far as frittatas go, but tbh I've had better. Nothing technically wrong with it, but it just lacked a real punch of flavor. However, the accompanying salsa was tasty and fresh. *Chocolate croissant wasn't technically a croissant, per se... More of turnover shaped like a croissant but it was still delicious! *Cash or check only. I completely understand why businesses do this but I don't have to like it. Pro Tip: there's a Redwood Credit Union within walking distance across the street. The Ugly: *Coconut Macaroon is a hard pass from me. Dry + brittle + overly-sweet = don't bother. If a line is indicative of the quality of a bakery. Franny's is a shining example! Family had told me about this awesome bakery in the north coast, and not one to pass up delicious treats, made the stop by. So on these two mornings I got a chance to try multiple items on the menu. First thing is that the recommendations were definitely true and this place was amazing. It's an important to note however, that I did not find everything to be a home run but there was specific items that I recommend that everyone try. First, the Croque Monsieur was absolutely amazing. My favorite item by far. It wasn't really a sandwich as there wasn't a second slice of bread but it almost had a pizza type quality with a baked crust of cheese that kept the ham under it cooked properly. From my understand this isn't how you would normally see a Croque Monsiuer but it was tasty none the less! My second favorite item was the almond croissant. It had a great flaky texture with a great crunch from the almonds and what I believe to be a nice creamy almond filling. Not everything was a hit for me but overall I enjoyed this trip and bought quite a few items. It's also important to that this place can have a long wait and that not all items may be available on the menu. Regardless, if you find yourself on this part of the north coast check out this amazing little bakery! read more

We went more times than I should admit during just a week long visit! Five stars for the sweets for sure. The savory stuff is more mixed. The breakfast sandwich was awesome. This cake in particular, we were finally going to be in town so I could order one! Beautifully done vegan cake for my 4 year old son. Franny's so talented, so making the cake vegan for us was not a problem. Daily offerings are always amazing, so I'd be in trouble if I lived near here because I'd be there every day they're open! Always good to remember that they are CASH (or check) ONLY, but I think there's an ATM in town you can use. It is well worth the hype and the wait. First glance upon walking up, "What a cute little shop!" On Saturday my boyfriend and I stopped in to grab some goodies from their bakery to add to our basket for a picnic lunch to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. For something savory we ordered the Ham & Cheese Croque Monsieurs(heated). The cheese on top came out nice and melty, so much flavor, out of everything we ordered, this had to be my favorite! Fun fact this is a gentleman's ham and cheese sandwich, in French it means "Crunchy Mister." We also ordered The Frittata of the day with meat(heated) and Petra's Fresh Salsa. The tomatoes were fresh, large and plentiful and the salsa served on the side was very flavorful as well! For something sweet to end our meal we chose their Chocolate Chip Obama-Licous Cookies, they are a bit quirky here with their names, lol. As we began to dig in the chocolate started to melt, which reminded me of fresh baked cookies coming out of the oven with all that chocolate gooeyness and I enjoyed the notes of butterscotch that stood out as well! I would definitely recommend supporting this small business, that opened it's doors in 2006 in the historic district on Main Street. Come early, they make their bakery items fresh every morning! I almost made one of the biggest culinary mistakes in my life this morning. Driving through PA on my way to a hike we stopped for a quick snack, saw this place and walked in. My wife got a coffee, and I was going to order a cinnamon roll. "We don't have any this morning" the lady said. What????? It's 8:30 A.M. and there's nobody here is what I thought. My wife told me to get the chocolate cinnamon roll. Chocolate not being my favorite thing, but knowing how much my wife loves chocolate, I ordered it. Holy shit!!! This thing was quite literally one of the best things I've ever eaten. And that's not hyperbole. I mean this thing was legit, on hit, bangin, top notch, out of this world. The textures, the chocolate, the powdered sugar, everything they added made this thing simply amazing. Yet another update. This time for Franny's Farmhouse Pop-up Dinner of January 17, 2021. The meal was scrumptious! The pop-up dates are announced on their website or local Facebook posts and occur only occasionally. If you want a real treat keep on the lookout for them and call to pre-order. The quantities are sufficient to satisfy a hungry appetite - none of those foo-foo portions, but of a gourmet, unique quality. The most recent dinner featured a good-sized salad (Bombay cucumber, radish and pineapple chaat with pappadams and a delightful light citrus dressing), the entre was biryani-stuffed turkey breast, basmati rice pilaf, green beans and a delicious chutney, the dessert was a cup of black and white panna cotta topped with spiced kumquats. I paired the meal with a Bundaberg Ginger Beer which was a perfect accompaniment for the main course and strong coffee to enjoy with the panna cotta.
