I love this market. It's always well-stocked, the staff is friendly, and it's one of my favorite places to shop. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because I felt very uncomfortable when I saw the owner of a nearby business there. Based on publicly known information, I personally will never support that business or be anywhere near it again, especially in a town with so many children. We stayed at an Airbnb in Gualala and got EVERYTHING we need to eat and have drinks at the rental place. The workers are so friendly and helpful. We were looking for a little of everything and they had it all. The place is also very clean and well stocked and well lit. Easy to find everything you want. Stopped by for snacks and some supplies and loved this supermarket. Its an independent supermarket and feels part of a close-knit community, I didn't realize so much has changed from my childhood with big chain grocery until we stopped here. We didn't know if we would find alcohol in Sea Ranch so we brought our own stash, next time we won't lug the bottles with us, they had a huge selection here with great prices. Plenty of liquor, beer, and wine. They have a nice meat and fish department with lots of housemade/prepped proteins. There is a 2nd story you can get a top view of the first floor from, the 2nd floor has party supplies, house good, and kids toys. read more

There is a reason it has high ratings. It has a large variety of items, reasonable prices (cheap for a tourist town) and friendly staff. The best part may be the deli. Mr squirrels sandwich was spectacular. And Ms squirrels roasted chicken had nice gently spicy seasoning. She especially liked the fresh salsa she dumped on a bag of pre-washed lettuce. If you get a sandwich I recommend trying the local sweet mustard. read more

Cute little supermarket. Lots of free parking. Cute little train in the window. Staff was friendly. You can find all the basics to cook when you are staying in a beach house closeby. Delicious looking local bread. Prices are higher than what we were used to, but understandable since this is a beach town far away from larger population centers. My only issue was that they close so EARLY (like everything in this town, to be fair.) We arrived at our rental at dinner time and the store closed at 6pm. I made a quick stop and it wasn't good. The old woman at the c ash register double charged me for an item. When she was trying to reimburse me and re-ring it. I noticed she forgot something. My pointing it out made her angry and she started raising her voice at me. If anyone who should've been angry it should've been me because of the inconvenience. I told her stop getting loud with me and to get a manager. When the manager came, she abruptly left still mouthing off. That woman was so rude and unprofessional and gives her small town s bad name. Excellent prices and service for normal people who want basic, fresh meat, produce and foods, and a fairly priced diverse selection of wine and liquor. This unpretentious market is overall cheaper than its competition across the street ( Surf Market) , where I have gone for years out of habit, but I am going to switch to doing much more here to save about 20% on my standard items. This is where the local working class locals shops for their families, where you see seniors looking for the Monday 10% senior discount, and where there is also a decent selection of hardware, school supplies, and kitchenware upstairs, a pizza and Mexican food option next door, and much easier open parking. Lines at checkout mid-afternoon are a bit longer than at Surf, and there are more kids in tow, but otherwise it is a fine market. Reasons to go across the street instead of here: 1. You need pate or fancy cheeses for your guests tonight( it happens) 2. You want Pazzo Marco gourmet local ice cream instead of Ben and Jerry's 3. You enjoy jockeying for tight parking positions so you can meet more people who ding your car. 4. You must have overpriced and outdated chocolates and other treats to grab in the impulse aisle 5. You love the weekend BBQ out front ( I do) or your cholesterol is too low 6. You want to hang around more upscale and touristy shoppers, and also less kids 7. Almost everything you get has to be organic 8. You must regularly see the Climate Change Action Now! sign posted prominentky above the store. If you want to deal with pleasant staff, and want the best of both worlds, just shop at both places, e.g., get your milk, lettuce, diapers, oxtails, and peppers here, then go across the street for the parking lot BBQ. read more

Gualala market was my preferred grocery store when I vacationed in Sea Ranch, primarily because of the location and the little hardware-type section upstairs. But the last several times I shopped there and asked where to find a particular item, the staff member was surprisingly rude. Since then, I've taken my business across the street to Surf Market. They have an excellent deli and natural food section, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. read more

We stopped in for a quick bite and some cooking supplies for our stay at a beach house in Mendocino. They have a great selection of grocery & sundry items. Not at all what I expected. I was just going to get snack type food for a simple lunch for my kids but I found they had a fantastic deli. The deli in here is gorgeous! The selection of meats was like I went back to the 1950's. The butcher who helped me was awesome and fast. I ordered one Turkey Sandwich on a soft roll with Jack Cheese and then a plain turkey with just mayo. Simple, yet so good. I wish this place was in the Bay Area. Id come would come here all of the time. Definitely make a point to come in for a sandwich and if you're in the market get some meat! read more

Phenomenal prices on liquor - wines were generally about $3 cheaper than what you pay in San Francisco. Extremely helpful and pleasant staff. Minus one star for having less of an organic produce and high end grocery selection than the Surf Supermarket across the street. Plus one star for the following conversation: (My friend and I were a little giddy from the drive when we stopped in and were buying liquor) Checkout girl, looking at us suspiciously: "Ok you two, come on." Me: "Ha, you're like 'oh no, you girls are so cut off already!'" Checkout girl: "Oh no, it takes a lot to get cut off in Gualala." Me: "Good to know, but with our friends we'll probably find a way." I'm a total fan. Needed to get some quick groceries, and was impressed by their selection. I was bracing myself for shelves that were sparely stocked, with few options, and what I found was quite the contrary. Of course, it's a little pricey, but I expected as much since we were out in the middle of nowhere (albeit, a very beautiful nowhere), and needed a quick fix for some items we had missed. The huge upside to this place is--as with the rest of Gualala and the surrounding Sea Ranch environs--the friendly people. Boy, are they helpful! It's almost saccharine, except one comes to realize quite quickly, "These people really mean it." And that's a refreshing thing to encounter for a jaded, cynical city-dweller like me. read more

This store works. Imagine going into a mini Safeway. They have everything you could ask for plus items that can only be found at a store near a beach and river (think inflatable rafts). If you're a senior ask for the discount- 10% off. Not too shabby! Actually the store itself is fine. Shopped here for several years and never an issue with the help. Today while checking out, the clerk, Evelyn was complaining to another worker how cold she was and hoped "they did something about it" the guy ahead of me was holding out his money and she started to scan my stuff. Realized she hadn't closed out the other transaction. Did that and re- started mine. My wife standing next to me noticed a dime on the counter. Thinking it belonged to the last person pointed it out. Evelyn in a very snotty tone said "thats a dime, mam-- for a bag". Preceded to finish. I just was stunned by the tone of voice and as she handed me a receipt another snotty tone to have a nice day. Probably will go there again, but will start using the store across the highway first. read more

Very friendly staff with great advice from true locals. The prices reflect the fact that they are one of the 2 markets in town. Come prepared (I.e. We are here for a month and the first week we shopped here 3 times! A nice little heavily stocked grocery store with lots of extras found in general stores. The fresh meat and fish counter is well stocked and always has several things on sale. Their fish comes in 2 or 3 times a week and is already filleted and cut elsewhere so no scraps are available, I like to buy the fish heads and bones with the tail to make a fish broth. I can get them very very reasonably across the street. Nice wine selection at $3.49 a bottle and up. Bought a beach towel for 4 bucks. Smallish but nice produce section and there always seem to be a guy stocking and arranging it when I'm there. Very friendly and usually knowledgeable staff. Their house brand milk ("Western Family") is quite a lot cheaper than across the street. I'm glad they are there to balance the competition across the street! read more

This is a low-key market in Gualala. What I really liked about it was the enchilada and fish tacos I purchased from one of the stalls in here. It is the same one selling pizza and ice cream, but don't let that stop you. The enchilada's were very flavorful, not too greasy, and hugely portioned. This is a great supermarket for such a small town. Great selection. Everything from organic veggies - beer - wine - alcohol - meat - made to order sandwiches- you name it. Plus they have a upstairs area with all kinds of extras like a old fashion five and dime. Of all things I needed a pencil sharpener..they had it. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Saw me looking around and asked what they could help me find. The Veggie guy saw me looking around and offered to get me fresh items. It is also connected to a "indoor mall type" area with a fresh bakery, Mexican food, craft shop, and souvenir shop. plenty of tables to eat at and wifi. Great place to snack and stock up on a rainy day. We had a cheese danish and sticky bun with lattes. Scotty said one of the best cheese danish he every had. Great market and even better staff! Many years ago, my wife and I were celebrating our anniversary in Gualala and went to the market for staples and I bought one of their hats for my bald head. My wife subsequently passed from cancer but the hat remained my favorite until it was recently lost. I called the market and the owner, Chuckie Sorenson(?) for a replacement. Since no more hats were available, Chuckie put his own hat in a box with a tee shirt and sent them to me that day! I'm getting remarried tomorrow and I'll be wearing my new Gualala Market hat! Reminds me of Trader Joe's or Safeway. It's a smaller grocery store, but they have a great variety of good quality products, including a lot of vegetarian and vegan stuff, and a great booze selection. The prices are reasonable for the brands they carry, but they don't carry many cheaper brands so be prepared to pay for the best. read more
