The dough and sauce are made in-house, and you can taste it -- crust was crisp yet airy, with a buttery richness and just enough chew to make each bite satisfying. Sauce had a bit of spice, cheese was bubbly, browned, and full of real-deal flavor (no sad, fake cheese here). Toppings? Plentiful and delicious. We came dangerously close to finishing the whole pie, stopping only two slices short. For drinks, my adventure buddy went classy with an Old Fashioned (good, but nothing to write home about -- and the bar's lack of Luxardo cherries made him sad), while I kept it real with a draft Miller Lite. The beer was cold and clean -- and honestly, from a hole-in-the-wall bar, that's something I appreciate. Bartender doubled as our waitress and handled it like a pro, even on a slow Monday night. The place is dark and cozy, decorated with lots of '50s-inspired artwork, and apparently has a rooftop bar -- sadly closed during our summer date night. Wow. Coming for a movie at the theater around the corner with friends and wanted dinner somewhere close by. Stumbled across this place...and we are so glad that we did. I love these small local places. We had Stromboli...and it was amazing. Homemade dough...yum. The wife loves the pretzel logs and I also had delicious cheesesteak egg rolls. Big portions...good prices. The staff was extremely friendly and went out of their way to get us what we needed / wanted. It is a bar/tavern...so, definitely nothing fancy, but still not bad. Stopped into Fratelli's on a recent Friday for a first visit and had an excellent experience. We sat at the bar and service was quick and friendly. We had initially just planned to have drinks but hunger got the best of us and we ordered a basic "Bar Pizza" with pepperoni. The pizza crust was tasty and nicely crisp. My companion, who rarely finishes pizza crust, ate every morsel. The pepperoni was nicely spiced and the sauce had just the right garlic note. We were very pleased and will definitely add Fratelli's to our rotation of favorite spots. There is a separate dining room for those who prefer not to sit in the bar area. Staffing was decent during our visit but the bar was not super crowded. The staff was working hard but was friendly throughout. Been here before, but came back and will continue to come back. Pitcher of beer is worth it over the cost of a pint. Cocktails seemed stingy on the pour, so go for a shot or stick with beer instead. Ordered a CBR pizza with fried chicken, but came out with grilled chicken. They apologized. Outcome: delicious. We decided the fried chicken may have been a bit much because of the loads of bacon they put on the pizza, so fate pushed us in the right direction! Their pizza dough is made in house and you can tell. Snagged a side pic of the pasta next to us- guessing this was the rigatoni bolognese. Huge portions. I was happy to see rolls come out with a large salad because they used to come with sesame seed bread and I can't do sesame seeds. Had Grandmas Bar Pie and Grandmas Sunday gravy- which has nothing to do with gravy but rather a slow cooked hearty Italian smooth sauce loaded with pieces of veal, pork, sausage and meatball. The last time my family was in was about a few months ago, the food was amazing and the staff was very kind but there were a ton of staffing issues along with lack of ingredients including dough for pizza. I understand that these things do happen post Covid so I decided to give it a few months and try again. This time the dining area was closed again. It was a Sunday so again, understandable to an extent. If the kitchen is closed on the weekends maybe they should change the hours online. We were seated and the waitress was very kind but once again she explained that there was a shortage of pizza dough made. For a place that touts itself as Italian and has a very famous pizza, it confuses me while this the second time it's happened. They continued to present an interesting and creative and full menu this past year; even though business has probably been as bad for them as it has been for most restaurants that rely on the regulars. Bar Pie is great. Deserves recognition, it's a 5 Star pizza. Meatballs, very tasty, by themselves or in a meal. As far as pasta dishes, you don't get shorted here. Quiet, Quaint & Simply Italian is how I would describe Fratelli's Italian Tavern. Located on Third St. in New Cumberland. You have a choice of sitting in the tavern or the restaurant we chose the quieter restaurant side! We started our meal with the Fried Ravioli as an appetizer these homemade cheese filled pasta dumplings were very tasty the crispy dough was enhanced by the seasoning in the ricotta stuffing dipping in some marinara sauce truly made this a great appetizer! My wife enjoyed stuff rigatoni a homemade pasta stuffed with ricotta and accompanied with two rather large meatballs. I tried their homemade lasagna which I must say is probably one of the best in this area seasoned well and loaded This dish is also accompanied by two meatballs. The handmade meatballs are a great accompaniment they are seasoned well not over bearing and large two of them could be a meal by themselves! S if the portions were not enough to fill you this place gives you a truly great bread loaf that is wonderful all by itself. Our waitress Amanda did an excellent job very friendly and knew the menu and provided us with a wonderful first visit. Come prepared to eat the servings are large and well worth the price. We like coming to this place and almost always choose to sit on the bar side. The bartenders are great, especially Bo. They always make sure you have a drink and are fast with food service as well. They have DJs on the weekends and it turns into a fun place to dance. They also have a pool table and an upstairs outdoor deck. The outdoor deck is open during warmer weather and they allow smoking. There is another, larger dance area adjacent to the deck, but inside. The food menu is great-- Italian is their focus. We usually get the fried ravioli bc they are delicious. I've gotten a bunch of items and all were good. This past visit, I ordered the Italian sub. It was huge!! The meat selection and quality was good. This was a very very good sandwich. The fries are battered and always come out piping hot. It's a loud, lively bar and if you're not looking for that, you can sit in the more intimate restaurant part. 12 of our monthly dinner crew went to Fratelli's last night. They had our table nicely prepared and ready. Unfortunately, they were understaffed and Bo, the manager, immediately let us know that. He and his staff were absolutely incredible handling our drink and food orders throughout the dinner. We're all in our 60's, so we've dealt with way worse. We had more time to chat and had a another fun time. So word of a new restaurant in the town next door has been in the local press of late. Fratelli's in New Cumberland is billed as an authentic Italian restaurant and bar. When we visited (10/31/2014), it had to have been one of their first nights, if not their first night, in operation. I hope that is accurate. We got there, parking around the corner, and made the decision to bring our youngest in the stroller with us. Sometimes that is a chance, but usually it works out. This time, it did not. There are steps into every entrance. Speaking of entrances - Fratelli's has three of them that I counted. One for the "banquet room," one for the bar, and one that is unlabeled but I think it is for the restaurant. The restaurant is a 10-12 table enclosed seating area next to the bar. You walk in, and you don't know if you should seat yourself, wait for an employee to greet you, or generally just wander around the dining area. Ultimately, I think we made the right decision to seat ourselves - - but I will say we were barely acknowledged when we entered. So we sat down and got a glimpse of some of the missing pieces of their preparedness. They don't have any booster seats or kids menus. In fact, they don't have any cups for kids drinks. They did end up locating a high chair, but that was it. I ended up ordering the Manicotti with sausage, my wife ordered the eggplant parmesan, and we got mini calzone appetizers for our 2.75 year old. The manicotti came out first. Almost 5 minutes later the eggplant parmesan and the mini calzones came out. The food was good, not great overall. The good quality of the food got this place two stars instead of one. After we finished the food, it took awhile for the server to come back around and get moving on the bill. No major complaint there, the place did fill up a bit and I think she was dealing with some technology issues at the wait terminal. A couple of other notes. First, I'm not one who is picky about water, but the water didn't taste good. Second, the bar seemed squeezed in, but looked like a decent bar area - possibly the highlight of the place though we didn't spend time in there as it is a smoking area. The place feels like a bar with an owner who wanted to also have a restaurant - and it is built into the overall bar structure as an afterthought. I'm willing to come back and update this review as the quality of the food merits a second chance, despite the ambience and service still getting up to speed. But next time I return, it would be nice to be greeted, or at least have a sign to say to seat yourself, the service will have to improve a bit, and food should come out at the same time. Otherwise, this place will make for a nice watering hole and a wasted opportunity for some good Italian food. read more

Great new Italian restaurant in New Cumberland. The inside has been completely redesigned and it's much cleaner than the previous bar that occupied this space. The staff was very nice, it was only their second night so they were still working out some kinks but service was fast and the food was fantastic. They also have a large selection of beers on tap and a pitcher of Yeungling is only $6. The bar takes up a large portion of the restaurant but there is now a separate room just for family dining. We ended up here the other evening because our first choice had an hour wait. We'd never heard of Fratelli's but it looked like it'd been there forever. How bad could it be? Let's start from the beginning. This is a bar with a dining room separated by a door. We went in and sort of hung out at the hostess station. After about 3-4 minutes one of the REGULAR CUSTOMERS seated us. Finally, a server appeared, literally on the run. She was the only server for it seemed 4 occupied tables. She seemed to be completely overwhelmed with a glassy-eyed "deer in the headlights" look. We established that she was unfamiliar with the menu. example: "Some kind of square things" when asked what type of pasta came with the Sunday Gravy. It was rigatoni. She had no idea about available wines or beers. She forgot a wine order, a side dish and a requested second basket of bread. And the bread was the best thing we had to eat. My understanding is that Sunday Gravy needs to simmer for hours until it becomes thick. This Sunday Gravy was thin. And somehow the meat (meatballs, sausage and pork) that's supposed to simmer in the sauce managed to be cold to room temperature while the sauce was very warm. Pasta in the Sunday Gravy was about 1 minute or so short of al dente for my taste. The pasta served with marinara was overcooked. Sometimes you get lucky walking into a previously unknown restaurant and discover a gem and sometimes you don't. Oh well. read more

This was our 1st time coming here. We have no idea why there are people that have rated them so low. Austin was our server and he was personable and very helpful. Quick with a drink and suggested the antipasto for two ($12). OMG for two??? Could have been for four it was giant, and delicious. The drinks are well priced, if you're looking for $1 beer night this is not the place, they have adult drinks here. Binge drink somewhere else. My wife had the pasta al forno ($14) and I had the lasagna ($15) both were amazing, more on them in a bit. Dinner came with a salad and bread, it sounds simple but you'd be surprised how places can screw that up. Fratellis did not miss a beat. To start the antipasto was savory and had a little bite to it and the cheese was smooth and cool. The salad: every bite was fresh and crisp, even the cherry tomatoes "popped" we both would have been happy to fill up on the salad alone. We both had the vidalia onion dressing ( Thank you again Austin ) very nice. The sesame bread was fresh, hot, and soft. Best part they but the butter in with the bread so the butter was softened and didn't rip up the bread when you put it on. Now onto the entrees, the lasagna was huge, and the two meat balls that came with it are only slightly smaller then baseballs. You can tell that both are fresh and hand made. They came out pipping hot and full of melty goodness. You can tell the kitchen staff/cooks/chefs cared about the food, prep and presentation. The pasta al forno was the perfect mix of the acid of the red sauce and the smoothness of ricotta with little surprises of mushrooms, and meat. We would have had dessert but honestly there was just no room left. We ended up taking home 4 take home boxes and are looking forward to finishing the left overs tomorrow, if we can keeps our kid out of them. We will definitely be back many more times. read more

0 stars is more correct. I went to this place with some friends, the place is much cleaner than the last, but they have a few screws loose with regards to their food and service. One of my friends ordered a Tuna sandwich for 8$ when it finally came out it looked and smelled like cat food smeared on week old ciabatta. My other friend never actually received the calamari that he ordered. There is only (1) one bathroom for the dining room and bar. The food looked so unappetizing and expensive that I did not even bother ordering. The cheap domestics are cheap, but the good beers are NOT priced competitively for the surrounding bars. The dining room looks like a geriatric lives in it. If you decide to come to this place bring your wallet and leave your taste buds at home.
