This is my go-to grocery store on Interstate in NoPo. I love the selection of organic fruits and veggies along with the most variety in most items in the store. I can also get clothes if I am so inclined along with kitchen ware, bathroom staples, plants and so much more. read more

My boyfriend and I went into this fred meyer at 10:50pm to get some specific essentials we needed. We knew they closed at 11 so we were quick and went straight for what we needed--we both work in retail and know what it's like to have stragglers after close. We were out of the store by 11:01, leaving many other shoppers still making their way to the check out. This didn't stop an extremely rude employee from jogging up to us before we reached the check out and barking "Excuse me! Excuse me! We're closed." Her tone was extremely rude, as if she was scolding a bad child. I'm honestly surprised Fred Meyer wouldn't at least want their employees to be polite when they're alerting shoppers to the closing of the store. It was before 11 when she confronted us. I've never had an issue with product from this location but the customer service of this employee was pretty disappointing. read more

This review is specifically for the Pharmacy. Due to troubles I was having with another pharmacy, I tried getting a medication I use regularly filled here. They were able to order the medication, and they put it on hold for me while I got my HMO to authorize it. Unfortunately, I had to wait over the weekend to get this done because my HMO is back east and was shut down Friday due to weather. So what happened when I finally got the authorization done? The Pharmacy took my medicine which was ON HOLD for me and gave it to someone else! So now I have to wait another day for them to order it again, and hope I do not run out in the meantime. read more

I've been shopping at the Interstate Freddy's since I was a teenager helping my mom with the groceries. Some things, like the pharmacy, have always been awful (I used to pick up a monthly prescription there and they would often times give me the wrong one, not to mention having to wait for over an hour when it was supposed to only take "a few minutes"), but over the last year to 18 months it's gotten really bad. Items will be out and never re-stocked (OPI nail polish started dwindling over the summer and I when I went this last weekend there were maybe 16 polishes in the entire 7 row display. Dried beans and rice are regularly low or out, yet they will still put up "sale" prices for the empty bins. Other staple items will be out as well and employees never know when more will come in.....) It definitely comes off as a store that is just selling off stock to be shut down. Which is sad because this is one of the few affordable grocery stores within about a 3-5 mile radius, so folks without a vehicle are kind of screwed.... read more

It's not the crowds, the unpredictable nature of their restocking schedule, or the quick-to-rot produce that I'm here to bewail. I've grown to expect these things from most large retailers up in the northiest corner of North Portland. (I'm not the only one who's noticed this, right? If you want to be happy during a retail experience here, it needs to be locally owned, or a low-advertised chain like Grocery Outlet. Like dysfunctional grandparents, NoPo's big chains age fast, grow bitter, and soon give up on life.) What I'm saying is that I'm here for the low prices and lower expectations. But it's the pharmacy that drove me to review, because it's just that awe-inspiringly terrible. I don't blame the pharmacists or assistants, who are doing their best while crammed into a Harry Potter-style cupboard in this otherwise massive space. We like the occasional shit-cheap kitchenware or flipflops, but meds aren't exactly optional impulse buys. So why does this store have almost no space for keeping a decent stock? Or for the harried people working there to move around with fewer chestbumps per yard than the NFL? I like to see the people entrusted to medicate us without causing injury or death treated better than that. Call me a communist agitator, but I like to see anything with a pulse treated better than that. We used this store's pharmacy for a while because we pick up some cheap staples here at least once a week -- one-stop shopping, what a concept. Instead, something nearly always went awry with our orders. Uncommon supply? It's out of stock. Meds need a refill update? If they get the docs' faxes on the first try, buy a scratch-off, because today's a lucky day. Phone buzzes with an auto-message that scrips are at last ready? Have a seat on one of those sad grey chairs and enjoy this 2005 copy of Prevention, because that was actually a prank call. Again, I don't blame the employees for the awfulness of this pharmacy. I blame the muckety-mucks up the Kroger chain who cannot seem to organize a retail drug space to save their lives. Or more to the point, to save ours. People who require medicine, and those trying their best to serve them promptly and correctly, deserve at lot better than this shitshow. read more

I've never been a huge Fred Meyer fan. I feel their store brand doesn't offer the quality others do. However, this is a very convenient, readily stocked store, and for that, I like it. read more

Pharmacy in Lombard and Interstate in Portland is one of the worst pharmacies that I have ever dealt with. They make mistakes about medications, they LIE when they say, "we will call you to tell you there was a problem about the refill" (p.s. my cell company keeps phone records), and then they are rude (the pharmacist, not the staff) when you point out their mistakes. They FAILED to take action and took them 5 damned days to get it done. If it was not for me clearing up their mistakes then I doubt it would have gotten anything done. HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE! I read all the reviews on here a while back and thought that people were being a bit critical. But then I shopped there for the last year because its right by my house. Now I understand the critics. I've never been to a store that had so much trouble keeping items on the shelf. They will often time not have what I went there for. And the line situation does kinda suck. Ah, the Lombard Fred Meyer, my old friend. I just returned here after 2 years of moving out of state, but I gave been here no less than 100 times over the past seven years. Love this place. Yes, of course, there are endless homeless folks milling around outside at the recycling center, and the primarily low income clientele, however, there is so much to be said about getting everything in one trip. What I love most, is shopping the post holiday sales and clearances. Look for when the clearance is marked an additional 50%, then, go crazy. I have bought furniture, housewares, games, garden stuff, storage, clothing. and housewares for a complete bargain here. While I never really thought the place was anything special before, now that I have moved out of state, I wish I had this kind of store near me now! Take advantage of it! read more

Not the worst place to shop. I like the large bulk section and the price comparison to new seasons is notable. If you aren't down with long lines try the U-scan. Their "natural" section is well stocked and the bakery has a day old cart in back. The old people greeters are friendly but not too friendly and if you take the Max or the bus parking is a non issue. Cool to have the store where you can buy everything under the sun, yet is more upscale than Walmart or Target. It is a little bit more expensive than our grocery stores in California but you get what you pay for. Wish we had these in Northern California. I love Freddie's for shopping and people watching. The Lombard Fred Meyers has been good to me over the years. I love how they have people that work there for decades. Familiar faces mean good employee practices. The bakery man, Warren, "the general" and the produce guys, simply make me happy by just being there. I like going into the Starbucks and seeing the view and chaos of it all. If you hit it up on a Friday or Saturday night, you'll see all the single pretty people buying frozen pizza and six packs! Good produce, natural foods section, hardware department, and ethic food aisle. read more

This Fred Meyer's is more of a place that advertises things that you need for a house and every day rather than of food. It's hard to miss. Everything that you need for a home is on the left. Everything you need to stock your home is on the right. There is a certain science to these things. It's called availability and if you just want things for easy access - then this place is it. There's not much else to say except that the place is worth a visit if you are on the Interstate or in the area. read more

I go here only because it is literally the only affordable grocery store in my hood, thats probably why it is always so disgustingly crowded. I jokingly tell my friends that whenever I go in there it feels like the apocalypse is coming. They often run out of sale items leaving the shelves bare and forget trying to ask someone who works there where something is. Its every man for themselves!! The produce (mostly from Mexico) rots in a few days and the cashiers (with a few exceptions) are grumps. I do spend a lot less when shopping here compared to New Seasons down the street but you definitely get what you pay for: poor service, horrifying restrooms, and rotten fruit. read more

after reading all the negative reviews of this freddie's, i felt compelled to chime in as i literally come here every other day, sometimes more. i have been there at all hours from open to close, on major holidays and tuesday afternoons at 2:38, since i have lived in the neighborhood (almost two years). pros: -easy access by max, car, bike. -RARELY are they out of stock unless the item is: 1) heavily discounted (which seems to happen frequently for me on specialty items like gluten-free crackers) or 2) out of season. -clean! seriously. i've never felt that sort of unwashed gloom that seems to hang like a cloud over every safeway in existence. -produce is right at the front door so i can grab and go on my way to work. -cheaper prices on most organic/healthy items than new seasons or whole foods (kombucha, rice pasta, i'm looking at you). -i have bought every other non-food item known to man here, from bike lights and acrylic paint to underwear and a sweet cast-iron frying pan. -i like being able to check myself out, especially when buying combos such as brussels sprouts and a tire air guage at 10:55 pm. cons: -yes, parking can be a bitch. i promise you *will* find a spot if you hang out for a few minutes though. solutions: park near the recycling center and walk the extra 20 feet, park on the far side near the outdoor garden center and walk the extra 60 feet. -yes, there are panhandlers, but rarely if ever are they at the actual door, and i've never had an unfriendly altercation in any way during the literally hundreds of times i've been here. -no organic meat section. BUT new seasons is down interstate like a half mile, so viola, i hit them up for meats and treats and then breeze up to fm for the bulk of my shopping. i'm a fan! read more

Ever since I started making my own paycheck, I've become disillusioned with Fred Meyer. Sure, it's big, and some like the produce and come here for the deli discounts... But all in all, you have an oversized, below average hypermarket with a bad selection of everything and equally bad prices. I'll tell you three things that I typically come here to buy: dairy products, clothes, and electronics. Fred Meyer's milk always gives me indigestion, even the rebranded stuff which is really just more expensive Fred Meyer brand milk. The first and only time I tried their yogurt, I found dozens of whole insects in it. Not a pretty picture. Fred Meyer's clothing sections always leave much to be desired. Bad selection, not enough brand diversity, mirrors are a challenge to find, and the prices are average at best. Finally, the electronics section at Fred Meyer offers the old model of everything at a significantly higher price tag. You can't even look through the video games or see the prices for them because they're locked in a glass cage. Pretty lame. It's time to trek to Wal-Mart, CostCo, WinCo, department stores, or buy online. Fred Meyer offers few advantages over any of these options. read more

I've never really had many problems at this Fred Meyer like I've had at others. The employees aren't overly friendly, but they do maintain a level of pleasantness and try hard to expedite shoppers in and out. I'm a fan of that. They do regularly have pretty decent sales on their natural and organic products also which make it worth the stop. The biggest draw backs are the chaotic parking lot, and the scary bottle return island. read more

Fred Meyer advertised 50% off chuck roast but it did not ring up correctly. The customer service staff and the young man who claimed to be the manager, Kyle Gwyn, insisted that $4.99 per pound was 50% off the normal retail price. That would make Fred Meyer's chuck roast nearly twice the average market price as reported by the BLS. That is incredible. Did Kyle Gwyn know how incredible that was when he refused to put that price in writing? Caveat Emptor. read more

This Freddy's deserves at least three stars. It's humble, yet not too stabby; and of course the prices are pretty dang reasonable - especially when compared to New Seasons, Whole Foods, etc. Also the clothing is kind of a hidden gem here in Portland. Cute stuff at a good price, and durable, too - none of that super cheap unravel-the-first-time-you-wear-it Target crap. Kinda like K-Mart clothes back in the day, when they were still pretty good. People-watching here is top-notch, which helps a lot in the checkout line. No matter how many people are in front of you - be it two or one or twelve - be prepared to bring your knitting and bust out a scarf, because there is always always ALWAYS a mummified sloth with copious piles of expired coupons, or a person (only one, if you're lucky) presenting a similar scenario that can potentially stretch up to one-half hour. But overall - for a Fred's, pretty standard. read more

Convenient, really big, not pricey and not Walmart. It's one of the best in the city IMHO and there's a Starbucks inside too. The upstairs area has a ton of clothing options and the whole place is inviting really. Good deli area that I always like to stroll the and grab their super awesome deal on potato wedges (a pound for $3) that never fail to be piping hot and delicious. A great local market. Don't hesitate to get in there and pick up what you need, they'll likely have whatever it may be. read more

Had a pretty weird experience here tonight. My boyfriend and I were shopping for some groceries after both of us had worked hard at work all day long. We were both browsing through the beer and deciding on what kind we wanted to get. A customer walks down the aisle towards us and goes "Hey, there's some kid that's poking his head around the aisle and staring at you guys. Thought you two should know. Pretty creepy" Apparently my boyfriend had noticed him staring earlier but I never noticed. As we were checking out we spotted him staring at us maybe 10 feet away at the end of the self check out. He was a skinny white kid with dark blonde hair I think. He started walking back toward the bathrooms but then turned through the employee doors and he was gone. Hey douche bag, if you had something to say to us you should have just said it. Try to be more of a creep next time okay? read more

If you've seen one Fred Meyer, you've seen 'em all. The lines at this one move more quickly than the Hollywood location, but the Hollywood one's produce and wine sections eclipse this one by far. If you're making a routine trip, here's fine. If you want consistent quality ingredients (esp. produce), Hollywood's your best bet. read more

You know what I like about this Freddies? It's close. No competition, unless you count New Seasons. And I try to shop there but I just can't bear to pay those prices. Fred Meyers, where the staff is nearly never nice, the shoplifters often out-number the shoppers, the beggars are always close at hand. and the prices are close to New Seasons and Whole Paycheck. Today they were "too busy" to get me some fish from the butcher's area. I went there when I started shopping, when I was nearly half finished and when I was ready to check out, and still they were too busy. I would just have left the cart in the aisle and gone elsewhere, but there ain't nowhere else to go. I hope to be seeing the new WalMart in Delta Park in the coming months. I am not a fan of WallyWorld, but Freddy needs some competition read more

This Fred Meyer store is near the bus stop I use to go to work, so I do most of my grocery shopping here. They have good quality products, and they usually have what I want. The prices are within reason, lower than other brand-name stores in the area. The people who work there are friendly, and I've even gotten to know some of them. read more

This place is going downhill quick. This is my go to Fred Meyer due to its proximity to my house. I have been shopping here for over eight years and I have noticed that staff especially front end and customer service staff seem disinterested and even rude when asking for help. I recently asked the customer service representative for assistance with obtaining a soda stream refill. She argued with me about the store carrying them and told me "are you really going to make me call housewares they are going to tell you the same thing? "She called them and they confirmed they do carry replacement refills. She didn't say sorry just went about her business aggressively throwing returns in the trash". On the same visit they audited my scan bag and go order which took twice the time then if I would just scanned it myself. This is the fourth consecutive time they have done that with the first taking 20 additional minutes. I have sent an email to the store manager with no response. I am avoiding this place like the plague. I suggest you do so as well. read more

It IS like doomsday!!! I used to go here all of the time, til I got smart and realized (thanks to google maps) that the Stadium Fred's is actually closer, AND it only takes me 5 minutes to zip across the Fremont Bridge and get there, AND there is always parking AND the staff is nicer AND I can get in and out quicker. The Fred's in Hollyweird is the second geographically closer one, so now, if I need an extended selection, that is where I go. Shame though. Last year, I had a cozy habit of studying on a Sat. night, and then taking a break around 9 pm, trundling Willus up in the car and driving over to the Interstate Fred's to get candy while listening to KMHD "Jukebox Saturday Night" show. I guess I'll just have to drive somewhere else. Plus, one night, I got into a screaming parking lot fight with these crazy ladies in a giant SUV. They trapped me from getting out, and all because I was trying to give them my parking space!!! They backed up and came at me several times!! read more

First off, it's like parking at Hell's gate. I think the horrible attitudes of the motorists come from a combination of the lot's bad design, the mixed clientele having to commingle, and some unknown negative force that seems to engulf this place. As soon as I pull into the parking lot, I'm often immediately struck with a bad mood because of the chaos I see straight ahead. I've been in yelling and honking matches with several people who can't seem figure out how to maneuver the lot without pissing off everyone in their vicinity. It's like all the bad drivers in Portland are in the same place at once. So watch out here, it's every man for himself. Inside, there's definitely a negative vibe. I like one reviewer's suggestion that the "doomsday" feel may be because the place might have been built on an ancient burial ground. Haha. That would explain a lot! I notice many shoppers have a "me first, stay out of my way, I don't take s**t from nobody" attitude. Not sure if it's because of the parking lot woes they just had to deal with, the small isles, or the frequently heavy traffic in the store....but there's always bad attitude floating around that place. All it takes is a couple pricks to pass a bad mood across a whole store, and it happens frequently here. As for how the place is run, I have a couple complaints. They seem to be out of things a lot. But you'd never guess it from all the mid-day shelf stocking they do. A well run store, ideally, should do most/all of its stocking at night, when the store is closed. Every time I go into this store, peak hours included, there are employees throughout the store with huge carts, stocking the shelves. They also seem to have a sense of space entitlement. The whole reason the store exists is to sell goods to customers. At this store, there are many times when I cannot reach the product I need because some putz employee is in the way with a large, ill-positioned cart, and doesn't have enough common sense to move when a customer is viewing the items they are blocking. Get a clue! The reason you have a job is because consumers buy things from your store. So let us consume! Customers always have the right of way over employees, in my opinion. Now as for which customers have the right of way amongst each other, well, that's anyone's guess at this place. They should install arrows, stop signs and traffic lights, because we need it. This store just sucks. If you're having a good day, don't ruin it by going there. And if you're having a bad day, you could very easily wind up in jail from having to deal with the bad vibes at this crappy store, on top of everything else. read more

NEVER AGAIN!!! Bought my wife a gemstone, took it to Fred Meyer Jewelers to have a setting made, they promised it would be done in 8 days (and before Christmas). 8 days later they hadn't even started and said it would be another 3 weeks. When my wife asked for the stone back, she was treated very rudely by Victoria, the manager (and only manager for the jewelery dept). Later, called to get the number for the work order they had committed to, and was treated rudely again. AVOID THIS BUSINESS, and especially MANAGER VICTORIA, SHE HAS TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS!!! After this experience, I would rate lower than one star if that was an option. read more

This is for the deli. I went in the store about 11:30, Sept. 4, 2013, for a chicken breast and some jojos. The first thing I see in the display case is a pan with one layer of very dried out chicken parts. Trust me, the chicken was something no one would want to buy; it looked like either in-bone chicken jerky or road-kill pterodactyl. The chicken tenders looked better, so I bought a large piece and a few jojos. This was a mistake. The tenders were as tasty as peppered clay, and the jojos included a few that were definitely long in the tooth and tasted like anything but potato. To sum this up, I was definitely not used to this, because, although I have not bought any chicken there for a few years, it had always been very good in the past. The fact that it was nearly lunch time and there was no one at the counter except me should have been warning enough. I will give it another try next year sometime, maybe. read more
