The worst Freddy's yet? That's hard to decide, because a lot of them are pretty terrible, but this one just might take the cake. You'd think such a massive store would have a good grocery selection. Well, they would, if anything was ever kept in stock. Here's how last night's attempt at picking up a few basic items went: Romaine lettuce? Oh sure, there's one tattered, browning head left in the whole store. Hot Dog buns? Nope, not a package in sight. The good bulk granola I like? Nah, just an empty bin. And so on and so forth. To top it off, the parking lot is downright FILTHY. I feel like I'm going to trip over a hypodermic needle as soon as I step out of my car. Seriously, I don't think they EVER clean this parking lot. Have some respect for the neighborhood that keeps you in business and hire a guy with a sweeper to come twice a month, jeez. You bastards certainly make enough money off North Portland with this huge-ass store, so how about not letting it look like a giant festering boil on our fair street? read more

Solar Panels run Sevurity Cameras in the Parking Lot. Well lit, large freezer and wine sections. We rarely buy stuff like socks here, but you van do that. There is a Persomal Shopper service area near the next-to eastery entrance. Return your thin plastic bags to entry ares bins. If you use an Electric Cart, pleade be sure it is securely plugged in before leaving the store. Some discounts ask for digital coupons. I find logging in to the App a hassle, so friendly Checkers sometimes get me the sidvount manually. That's good Service. read more

I've always been a fan of Fred Meyer. They've got everything you could ever want- groceries, home, furnishings, garden, electronics, apparel, deli, bank, and this one's even got a Starbucks on the second floor, overlooking the grocery/health and beauty department. Sure, Fred Meyer is a hypermarket like Super Target. But don't you dare compare it to K-Mart or Super Wal-Mart. The stores, especially this North Interstate location, is clean and well-kept. The products are of excellent quality. You wont' find crap from K-Mart or Wal-Mart at Freddy's. And besides, Fred Meyer is the original one-stop shopping place, years before other companies tried to mimick it. read more

This is a Fred Meyer, alright. And it's true - the lot is ever crowded although today I went at 9:00 am and there were actually quite a few spaces. There's also too much crap, I haven't liked this place ever (or liked it less) ever since they opened the second floor. BAGEL CAVEAT - also using this as a method to judge bagels, but this time I can review both with two little stars... Meh, I've had better. The bagels here are ok, Pretty bland, flavorwise. They all kinda taste the same, no matter which flavor you buy. They are also kind of non-substantial, but I still prefer them to west coast slightly because (while those taste better), as least these have a little body to them. DONUT CAVEAT - Decided to give these a try the other day. The glazed was quite good - light. The apples fritter was way to dense and just has that icky aftertaste of fried stuff. I didn't even finish half (which os quite shocking if you know me). So I guess I'd rate their dunuts about a 2.5 The rest of the store is ok. The folks here are generally not on top of things - but again - in the morning I found the staff to be friendlier than I was accustomed. The USBank doesnt open till 10 - so forget the convenience of doing my banking here. And twice I have come here to find Hannukah Items - a GIANT fred meyer... and they carry NOTHING, Ok, maybe one thing - but still, nothing you need and not enough so you can actually celebrate hannukad. You'' still need to stop at New Seasons and maybe even a couple other stores before you're all set. So - for a store this big, it's really nothing to write home about. read more

I now understand why this Fred Meyer has the lowest rating! Sure they may have some cute employees and some fricken awesome deli items, but that doesn't make up for the mold on the bread and the terrible management. I go to this Fred Meyer all the time, and they are usually really good about having good products on the shelf but the last time I went, I wasn't impressed! I have a huge disgust when it comes to mold... I mean, I don't want to see it, touch it, even think about it! Seriously... I'm gaging just writing this! I was going through the little health food section of the store (looking for all those little weird ingredients I need for allergy free baking) and I look down at the bread that was right in front of me at the very front of the shelf and it is covered in nasty, fuzzy, green, mold! And I'm not talking about 2 little tiny spots; I'm talking, the whole side of it! Me being the person I am, I carried it around the store (by the very top little piece of plastic of course) and when we got to the check out line, I asked for the manager. The young lady that was checking us out was very nice and called the manager for me. When the manager finally came up to the register I simply held up the bag of moldy bread and said, "I thought you'd like to see what I pulled off your shelf." Now this is the part where the manager SHOULD apologize and tell me how very sorry he is that this happen. But do you think he did that?! Of course not! Otherwise I wouldn't be writing this review right now! :) HERE'S WHAT HAPPEN: The manager grabbed the bread from my hand and said, "Ok, thanks." Then proceeded to yell at the checker, telling her that she should have called the food manager for this, not him. 1) It's not her fault that she called the wrong manager, I never told her that the problem was about food. 2) it doesn't matter if she calls the food manager, the store manager, or even the day care manager! A manager is a manager. He should have simply said that he was very sorry and he would take care of the situation. It's completely unacceptable to yell at an employee in front of customers! 3) NEVER grab something out of my hand!! If I want you to have something, I will give it to you. Living less than 2 blocks to FM for the past 3.5 years I have visited this place easily over 100 times. I don't know why people are hating on this place. the only negative I see if the parking....I typically walk down the block, but I have seen some close calls. There are panhandlers in Portland, Oregon has the highest rate of homeless and you are in North Portland- ga-toe! The staff is always helpful and friendly, when the lines get long they are quick to call back-up staff. The 'hot food' area is clean and provides a fast, cheap and easy meal for about 5 bucks. Produce is pretty good, prices are fair and I this place has the one stop shopping thing down; ligh bulbs-check, tampons-check, Drano-check, last minute date outfit-check, my tights have a run-check, the sink is leaking-check. read more

I'm a huge fan of Fred Meyer's chain. I shop there more than any other retailer in the area. Generally fair priced items on lots of things: Groceries, car essentials, apparel, electronics. The Rewards Card is nice to have, and I dig the self-checkout lanes. What I'm not a fan of is dealing with stupid bullshit. And the sad thing is, it's the clintele that ruins this location. I cannot recall one negative moment with an employee at this store. Without further adieu, let's begin a typical visit to this Fred Meyer's. STEP ONE - PARKING LOT: If you've ever watched the Daytona 500, a multiple car wreck is - no exaggeration - always on the cusp of occuring. Same with this parking lot. Drivers, with zero regard for anyone else but themselves, speed around the front parking lot, from all directions, to try and find a parking spot closest to the enterance. Sometimes, you're greeted by a vagrant asking you for money, or to purchase something from his backpack/briefcase. My tip: Park on the east side of the building, by the garden, and spend the extra 30-second walk. As for the self-checkout, there's never a defined line to wait in, which definately causes confusion. Avoid this place. There's a Fred Meyer in the University Park neighborhood that carries everything this FM does, except for apparel. It's a Fred Meyer and it does the job. It's a clean store and the selection is pretty good. It's the only reasonable option for miles in that area if you can't afford the ever-so-exclusive New Seasons up the road. Unfortunately, the reviews that hammer on this location are mostly missing the point and very unfair. They are reviewing the people and drivers and neighborhood they don't like more than the store. The store mostly does things well. It does need security, but that's not their fault and they are at least discreet about it. The parking lot is full, but that's because there's just not a lot of room in this part of town (just try parking at New Seasons, I dare you). Basically, if you need hardware, a pack of socks, a rug, a toy, a prescription, or even food - this is the only option in the area to get all those things and it is a decent one. Tip: good selection of beer and the grocery entrance is usually a less-trafficked one. read more

This is the new large Fred Meyer store in North Portland, at the MAX Yellow Line stop, on the SE corner of Interstate and Lombard. Fred Meyer has no-nonsense pricing, coherent receipts, and non-deceptive price-sign/product placement. Although they do have a shopping card, it's not "tied" to pricing, as is stated on their sign-up form. I really like the self check-out machines at Freddie's (and their sister company QFC), (also the self check-out machines at this Albertson's www.yelp.com/biz/albertsons-sav-on-vancouver ) so at my leisure I can confirm that each item rings up at the price I expect, at my own pace, before I choose to continue on with the next item (crooked grocery stores do not deploy self check-out machines, which would easily reveal their fraud, "before" your payment). It would help to have trusted friends watching out for you, and taking pictures, lots of well documented pictures, with clear pictures of their faces, and trust me, they'll come completely unglued. The parking lot alone is a thrill ride. Watch yourself. If you don't get hit, you may be accosted by pan handlers or shady looking windshield washing entrepreneurs. This, ladies and gentlemen, is a Fred Meyer. They're all pretty much the same aren't they? 9 times out of 10 I get in and get out as quickly as I possibly can. The complaints of high cost are foolish and infantile. If you simply look at the coupons, get a Fred Meyer Card, and play along you will save some serious cash. With the exception of the few employees I have clashed with, I would suggest you thank the employee who helps you next time you're there because they're either brave or foolish enough to work there and put up with your shit or another person's. As far as the reviews here that trash the store are concerned, I would love for you to instead give us some clues as to where it is you think we can all shop and support a truly local chain. Stop whining and offer suggestions because I, for one, would jump at the chance to support a locally owned market(s). Safeway? Nope. National Chain. QFC? Nope, same boat as Freddy's Winco? I laugh Albertsons? Please... Whole Foods? Beasts. New Seasons? Local, yes... and I am a patron... but talk about price gouging. Ouch. Having moved back to the area, and using this FredMeyers again, I'll say this, they are trying. Start with The Good: 1) It's right by Lombard TC, (where you can catch the Yellow MAX, 4 and 75 frequent buses). 2) The staff, overall, seems friendlier, (still 2 snarky older ladies in here, but whatever, I can get pass them). 3) Enough bike racks, that you don't feel on top of each other, if you bike here. The So-so: the produce is okay, just check things like onions and potatoes before throwing them in your cart. The Bad: People do Not know how to drive in this parking lot, or they are just frustrated with it; just keep an eye open, whether your walking or driving through here. They still get a 3 out of me. When Portland PD has a uniformed officer posted at the door for an entire month, one can't help but wonder what has gone wrong at this location. The store looks new and inviting from the outside although the rat maze of a parking lot is prohibitive. The store layout was awkward. I suppose that I am a creature of habit with the coastal location (Warrenton) burned into my muscle memory. Never a fan of the two level Fred Meyer stores. Didn't realise it was until I had to ask where the damn clothes were. Store was cluttered and not well stocked, nor clean. It felt like a notch above a K-Mart in the inner-city. Checkout staff was pre-occupied and not friendly. Ignored conversation and seemed very disinterested in his job. When told that we didn't want the hangers nor shoe boxes, he still put them in the bags...that is until I made him take them out and follow directions. Maybe the cop can give the employees a lawful order to not be lazy drones. Only positive thing that I can say about this location is that the Starbucks has a decent tea selection and I do not normally patronize Starbucks. read more

We don't have Fred Meyer back home. We were so excited to check this place out after seeing it all over Portland. What a disappointment. It was interesting seeing the combination of a supermarket, mass market store and a department store. It seemed like a combination of Jons Market (LA based ghetto supermarket), K-Mart and Sears... all stores we don't regularly go to unless we have no real choice. The store looked dumpy and dusty. Surprisingly, the prices were high for the items in the different areas of the store. It was an anticlimactic moment. It would have been better to just leave the mystery and wonder alive. Eeek. I give this location an enthusiastic A-OK. As far as Fred Meyers goes, it's not the worse by a long shot, and I'd have to drive pretty far into suburbia to find a better one. I get the vast majority of my organic produce here, and I've learned a few things are better just to go to New Seasons for, but I can get most things I"m looking for here and at a much better price. I wouldn't buy meat or fish here, but pretty much all my other grocery items come from here at about half of what I'd spend at New Seasons or Whole Foods. On the minus side, their customer service is sub par and most of the time I need help to find something, it takes 2 or 3 people before it's located. read more

I stop at this Fred Meyer often unfortunately because it's close to my house. The employees seem to hate their jobs. They avoid eye contact at all costs. One time a funny joke came through my mind as I was facing down an isle thinking of what I needed and a stock-girl actually asked me if "I had a problem or something" Ask for help finding anything in the hardware dept from the tall slender grey haired guy & he might begrudgingly help you with a healthy dose of attitude and dirty looks. AVOID THE PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE ON THE 1st OF THE MONTH, and the first weekend of the month. That's welfare day & the place is an absolute mad-house that sounds like a flock of pelicans took over the place. The meat goes bad a day after purchase & they've been out of half & half more times than I can count. (recently I looked to get smoked ham-hocks for the dogs but they were visibly moldy, 3 days before the posted expiration date.) I swear other stores must send their products that are about to expire there, because everywhere else has at least a week or two on them, for everything. Even the paper bags are lousy compaired to other stores. Hawthorne seems to have Titanium reinforced paper bags with handles, this joint has the weakest bags I've ever seen & they tear even if you double-bag. Maybe it's just the area, because the Safeway on MLK isn't much better, albeit a bit cheaper. Both provide Wallmart service with higher prices. If you find yourself in too good of a mood & need to be brought down by abysmally depressing employees, a dirty store, out of stock items and very colorful customers, I'd highly recommend this Fred Meyer. Otherwise, there's another Fred Meyer down Lombard toward St. Johns a few miles west, or a Safeway at the Jansen Beach exit of I-5. Both are much cleaner, friendlier and accommodating. read more

This place is very convenient! I'm from LA and I ended up having to make a few trips here while visiting my younger sister and I love how it is a one-stop shop! I wish there was a place like this close to where I live because I do not shop at Target and I avoid Wal-Mart as much as possible. They surprisingly have a very large variety of produce and also sell large packages of fresh meats, which was a great value for us since we hosted a BBQ. I will be back in Portland and I'm sure that means I will be back to this Fred Meyer. However, please keep in mind that this parking lot is a zoo! read more

Ahhhh my neighborHOOD Freddy's. Little did I know when I moved here 7 yrs ago that not only would you meet my needs for food stuffs and run-of-the-mill household items, but you would be an endless source of entertainment and frustration. Where to begin... they myriad of unsavories lingering around the parking lot and front entrance?, that one cashier that absolutely sucks at life? (really, there is only one that is totally put off that anyone comes through their line, the rest of 'em are quite pleasant in my opinion), the ever revolving door that is your starbucks staff?, or perhaps the jewelry department that can't seem to make their diamonds stay in the gold? Sounds like this place is a dumpster, eh? Well, not entirely. I give this place four stars and I'll tell you why: It's all I have in this area!! ;-) Seriously though, most of the staff are genuinely very nice, even the guy who gathers all the carts from the return stations all the while carrying on the most aggressive conversation.... with himself... There's only one cashier that I hate dealing with, and I never go through their line. Things are very easy to find, the layout is nice. The only REAL complaint I have is with the jewelry department which can't seem to pull it's head out of its ass. It's gone under a new jeweler change, so perhaps they have some growing pains to deal with. I've spent a lot of money with that department for gifts for people and whatnot, and for the most part they're very helpful and try to be accommodating, but I find it just a comedy of errors every single time I drop off something that needs work. As a rule of thumb I've started taking whatever day they tell me my ring will be ready and adding a day or two. A lot of the customers coming through this store are quite entertaining as well, what with their "juicy" sweatpants *shudder*, lack of teeth / bathing, sense of entitlement, interesting displays of ink (mine included), and pajama fashion shows (those who have given up on life all together). I have a soft spot for this marketplace in the hood, and I know if I need some entertainment, I just need to book it on down to this happenin' spot, pick up dinner and either have a few laughs or get my mind blown. I have been to this Fred Meyer more than any other due to the proximity of my place of employment. If I had to summarize my collective experience with this specific location in one word it would be: "meh." The aisles are always in a state of disarray and the employees always have a dumbfounded look about them. This place reminds me of a mix between Idiocracy and Dawn Of The Dead. This morning I had to call this location to see if an item was in stock. The phone number on their website was invalid so I had to call the Hollywood store for the correct number. When I finally got through someone who sounded like a mouth breather (I didn't catch her name, she didn't give it to me) put me on hold. The second operator to take my call (again, no name) sounded like she was managing the children's drop off area. She had no idea what I was looking for (a litter box for a cat). The third employee who took my call ultimately helped me out. I have yet to go in to purchase my item, but if it's anything like my past experiences then I will probably regret the transaction. One positive thing I can say about Fred Meyer in general is that they are great with returns. I just don't want to go in them any more than I have to... read more

I came in search of freezer pops at 7:30 this morning. With them no where to be found, I asked a lady working there. She promptly got assistance from another employee and they led me to where they were supposed to be. No dice. I was ready to give up and let the boys in the shop at my work wilt with the heat this afternoon, but no! They went into the back and had a boy in the back get the forklift and grab the entire bin for one bag of $2.50 freezer pops. 5 stars for great customer service even though I like the selection at other locations better, and they always seem to be remodeling. read more

The lines are always really long with slowwww check out people. The produce is crap, but still better than the produce at the nearby Safeway. This is mostly about the click list services at this location. Sadly my car is dead and I have had to use the click list/online grocery ordering at this location. I used the click list feature of couple of times last summer and it was great, things couldn't have gone smoother...however this past fall and now Spring I have had to use it every week to do the majority of my shopping, and have someone take me to the store to pick up my groceries (no car still). To say the least I think they have gotten my order right...umm twice, most of the time I have to take a bus to the store the next morning to return things that weren't ordered, wrong items subsituted, charged for things I never received, or tell me they don't have an item...I find it on the shelf the next morning. It's crazy. To date they have tried to make ammends, but honestly just get the order right. I don't have easy transportation to keep coming to the store. I will say the panhandling has decreased in the parking lot, which is nice, but could they try and clean the place up...finding dirty food garbage, underware and outher nast things littering the shrubs is gross. read more

For a while we were eating at the deli frequently. We have stopped going due to the inconsistencies in the food that they carry and the rude employees. My coworkers and I work close by and we would typically show up around 9am for breakfast. Sometimes the the deli would have breakfast stuff and sometimes they would already have lunch stuff out! Who wants fried chicken and JoJos at 9am? The soda machine had broken nozzles, which were reported to staff who didn't seem to care. The machines were broken for months with no signs indicating they were out of order. This meant you would go to fill your cup and have sticky soda spray all over you. The customer service was pretty awful. Not what you would typically expect from a Fred Meyer. We have since switched our daily routine to Safeway and New Seasons market. Both have CONSISTENT food at the deli and much better customer service! read more

This review is for Hoss in the video game department. I went in the other day, feeling kinda funky and thinking, "what makes me happy?" Video games do of course! So, I headed directionless to the gaming section of this Freddie's, which is close to where I am staying. I got to the PS Vita window and was upset to see that all the games were in there so that the only thing you could see was the spine with the title on it. Luckily, Hoss, a friendly native alaskan as his name tag and demeanor defined him, was there right away to help! He opened the case and let me look at several games and ended up recommending a game-P4G (Persona4Golden)-which i have been playing ever since and absolutely love. So, thank you, Hoss. You made my experience at Fred Meyer all the better and they should be ecstatic to have you there on staff! read more

Parking is a chore at this location and the bottle return is horribly out of date. Other than that, it's your average Freddy's. But literally good luck in the strangely created lot. I've left a couple times without being able to park on either level due to frustration and Safeway being right down the street. I must add, thete are tons of great employees here. Avoid this Fred Meyer location as much as you can until this pandemic is over! I have been shopping at Fred Meyer's nearly my entire life and have nothing to complain about the store and chain itself but this location IS NOT keeping staff and customers safe when they require everyone to show receipts when exiting the store. I have been to countless Fred Meyer locations across Oregon and Washington and being forced to show receipts IS NOT standard at this chain. I have never once in my life been asked to show a receipt while shopping there. The entrances at this location are cramped during normal business but the bottle neck created by demanding receipts from every person who leaves is absolutely unacceptable during this pandemic. The woman who was checking the receipts was masked and gloved (great!) but she touched every receipt between customers without changing her gloves or using sanitizer and took up to a minute to look over each receipt. She was also standing far too close to me and other customers when reviewing receipts and with the cramped area there was no way I could move away from her to create social distance. I feel like I got trapped in one of those crowds that you see pics of going around on social media. If someone had covid-19 in that cluster of people, I and everyone around me was absolutely exposed for up to five minutes while we tried to exit the store with our legitimately purchased groceries. AVOID THIS STORE until the pandemic is over or they stop creating unsafe conditions. (And before you judge me going into a store right now know this is only my second store visit in two weeks and I don't need or plan to go back for another two weeks while also not hoarding) read more

Extremely busy store. The pharmacy is understaffed. You must buy any personal care items at a store within the store because there is so much theft, which means you'll check out twice, if you have any other shopping. Customer service is sometimes great and other times terrible. Just waiting for this place to be torn down and replaced with a Target. read more

The pharmacy at this Fred Meyer is the most terribly run pharmacy I have ever experienced. It makes me want to bash my own head in with a baseball bat. I'm constantly being stuck waiting up to an hour for my prescriptions. Last Friday I was denied my prescription because it had been filled under someone else's name. Freddies, you treat our neighborhood badly. Shamefully badly. I only come in when I can't avoid it, and then it's like entering a little circle of hell. The worst is the pharmacy. Two sets of recent prescriptions, which I had called in because FM is the closest to my home, resulted in six, count 'em, six visits to get right/filled. I got to watch employees debate the broken fax machine (including hitting it) which means Rx's weren't coming in, being told my meds were ready but finding out they'd only picked up some of the calls on the phone line (so I got to wait again), "Didn't anyone call you?" when I arrived to find (AGAIN) that they didn't have the order, and the list goes on. I've lived in the neighborhood for over 14 years, and have sometimes opted to FM pharmacy for location. NEVER AGAIN. I would rather drive somewhere else, sick or not. I consider the lack of service and consideration in regards to medications a potential hazard to my health. Literally. read more

This is my go-to grocery store on Interstate in NoPo. I love the selection of organic fruits and veggies along with the most variety in most items in the store. I can also get clothes if I am so inclined along with kitchen ware, bathroom staples, plants and so much more. read more
