This is a local establishment and it does some things better than others--solid food but nothing fancy. I'd hoped for the Friday night prime rib, but only 2 end cuts remained available. I opted for steak tips, garlic mash and butternut squash. Tips were cooked a perfect medium rare and the taters were surprisingly tasty! I love plain butternut squash, so why you gotta add the cinnamon? Alas, I still quaffed it down. My friend had the cheeseburger bar pizza, which I imagine replicates the flavors of a Big Mac. The bar was hopping (horse racing was on) but our table service was slower than I'd have liked (waited awhile for waitress to check back), but typical post-Covid staff shortages likely to blame. Went with a friend. She found the atmosphere "charming" and "cozy" while I found it woefully outdated and dark. The food was not good. I got pizza with extra sauce. The pizza seemed to be a frozen not fresh pizza and had no extra sauce. It was better the next day but still lousy. She got a pasta dish and ate a few bites taking home the rest. I couldn't tell if she really liked it or not. We both hated apple crisp with iced cream dessert which the waitress told us she'd just taken out of a fresh package (so, frozen). The crisp was burned on top which ruined it but the iced cream was OK - not great but eatable. The waitress was fantastic - just the right combination of considerate without being too much. The hostess looked bored and seemed to care more about whatever she was reading than her job. I don't understand the good reviews this restaurant gets. read more

It was really excellent, somewhat pricey but you get what you pay for and it is really good! The chicken parm is absolutely one of the best!! I love the place for the quality and greatness of the food.. the service was in point and the waitress was quite efficient and polite. The chicken Marsala was also a fantastic meal, although not as big a serving as I was hoping for, as I took very little home, but it was so good maybe I just ate too much. They have a good menu and a quiet location! Walked into the place and received a horrible attitude from one of the ladies at the front hostess stand. Turns out she was the owner! Didnt think much of it honestly until I went to order a drink from my server. She took my drivers license over to that owner lady and I wasn't allowed to order a drink because I had an out of state driver's license... oh and if that wasn't enough proof that I was of age I even showed them my passport! 1st time here. The outside of the place is nondescript. With the exception of the sign you wouldn't know it to be a restaurant. Inside interior was older but cared for. The waitstaff was friendly & attentive, overall, a nice family restaurant. The stuffed Quahog was delicious! Lots of clam & has a good kick the way it should. The Clam Chowder was OK. It was thick, chunky, and not overcooked but I thought it was a bit bland. The boneless buffalo strips were crispy but the sauce had an uncharacteristic sweetness that I could have done without. My wife got the swordfish, it was great. HUGE portion of fish but still amazingly tender and very tasty. I would come back just for this. I opted for the tuna salad sandwich w/ fries as I was getting quite full by this point. The sandwich was good though the bread tasted a little dry. The fries were cooked well with the proper crispness. Beer selection was OK, mostly standard offerings. Though they did have Rapscallion, I would have liked to see more beers from the region. I have been back here many times and I have to say I get impressed each time I return. I've tried so many different meals and each time the food is great. The pasta tastes great. The vegetables are very fresh tasting. I really like the pizza. I usually prefer a thinner crust ...but I like that the crust is crispy and buttery. Its a great change than what I'm used to. Walking through the door was like taking a step back into the mid 1970's. Not that it was old, just classic. Almost frozen in time. Leather covered booths. Pine covered barn board on the walls. Comfortable and welcoming. Feels like someone's home. Nice bar, seats about 12. Here on an early Saturday afternoon for lunch. Maybe a dozen patrons so not too busy. Ordered the beef burgundy over fettucini lunch special. Sauce was delicious, pasta cooked just right. Some of the beef was tender but most of the pieces were over cooked and dry. Service was ok but nothing out of the ordinary. In fact I had to ask for more water and the check. Overall the atmosphere was fine, the food just mediocre but the service poor. Very busy environment on a Friday night, ordered a Bud light got an Ice Tea. Just kept it, must have been the drinking gods. Onion rings- best we have had in a long time and we do have a lot of experience eating and we are somewhat long in the tooth. Friendly waitress, great salad, bread and Pork something was very good. I have always been a Cape Cod Pizza guy, but truth be told, Freda's is surely in contention for best local pizza. One pie that is unlike any out there is the Buffalo Chicken. Real grilled chicken with sauce that has 'just the right kick.' Pair with a side of their cool blue cheese dressing and you're on cloud 9. Great for take-out, but dining in is fine as well. Very cozy atmosphere and great servers. The owner has always visible and seems like a good guy. Prices are somewhat on the higher end. Freda's, which normally would have been closed on Monday, the day of his funeral, opened just for us, so that we could have a gathering after the funeral. These are great people at Freda's. Never a bad meal at Freda's! The Mussels Bianco are incredible! Their homemade soups are unbelievable! My favorite dish is Penne Tuscano; any night of the week this dish does not disappoint! I went to Freda's on a Thursday nite with a friend. The atmosphere was pleasant and comfortable. My friend ordered the Chicken Broccoli Alfredo which she enjoyed, and I had the Prime Rib which was very good. I also got 2 pizza's to go, hamburg & roasted red peppers and a linguica and mushroom. Excellent pizza ! The service was great with a very attentive waitress with all the running around she was doing. I decided on Freda's because of the great reviews on Yelp and I wasn't disappointed. It was a cute place for cinco de mayo. However the crowd was around my parent's age (50's) and the band was soooooo loud!!! But we had a good time. I recommend dessert. The place looks a bit shabby on the outside, but inside its welcome and has a homey feel. This place has my favorite bar pizza. It is so much better than Cape Cod cafe which I always find so greasy. They also make a great prime rib and their salads are very fresh and quite large for sharing. Their 10 buck Tuesday specials are well worth it and Freda's has some of the best home made soups especially the stuffed pepper soup. The winter sangria is also very popular and is very good. My husband and I wanted to try it out after hearing good things about it. When we walked inside I noticed an odor that made me feel uneasy. The inside of the restaurant is old and dated. We were seated at a booth close to the bar. We ordered our drinks. I ordered dirty martini and my husband ordered a beer. When the waitress left to get our drinks I asked my husband if he noticed the smell. He said he did. I knew then that I would not want to eat there.
