My husband and I and some of our family have been to Freddy's many times and have always enjoyed the food, friendliness and small bistro atmosphere. Our first experience there was the first anniversary we celebrated on the island after becoming new homeowners here and we were given an excellent, out-of-the-way table and excellent service from start to finish. It was so excellent, in fact, that when our daughter and son-in-law were stuck here during hurricane Matthew on their first wedding anniversary, we took them out to Freddy's for a special dinner, and they thoroughly enjoyed their experience - so much so that they request to go there every time they are on the island. A little over two weeks ago, my brother and his girlfriend came to the island for the first time to celebrate our mutual retirement, and we were so happy to secure a reservation at Freddy's for all of us and my daughter and son-in-law, who were also visiting at the time. Everything seemed to be going well. Service was a little slower than usual, but it seemed that all the wait staff were helping each other on this very busy Saturday evening so we just accepted whoever put the food or drink in front of us and enjoyed our meal as usual. We ordered a round of after dinner Limoncellos to toast, at which time our waiter whispered in my son-in-law's ear (loud enough for the several people who sat close to him to hear) that they had a reservation for our table, and would we mind hurrying along. I was horrified that we were asked to hurry at the highlight point of our celebration, and would have asked to talk to the manager if my brother had overheard this untimely request, and the restaurant had not been so crowded at the time. We did not hurry, but finished our Limoncellos and left. The request really put a blight on the entire evening for me and for our group, and makes me hesitate to return to Freddy's for future special occasions - especially in season. I have never in my life been asked by a restaurant to hurry and leave because there is another reservation for our particular table. If in season there is a time limit on reservations then Freddy's should have made that very clear from the start. I would have chosen another restaurant in which to celebrate our special occasion. For this reason alone, I give you only 3 stars for that particular evening's experience. read more

Went to Freddie's tonight with a party of 6, 2 kids. Overall service was really good, even though they got really busy by the time we left. Food was really good, we all got pork chops except the kids. They got spaghetti... Which at an Italian restaurant should have been perfect... Well it was far from good. Marinara was very lack luster and noodles were slimy and gross. The meatball was an extra charge and was made with mostly filler and very little meat. As for the pork chops, all pork chops that were speciality were fantastic. The basic grilled chop was good, but very fatty and hard to cut. One other slight issue was the prices on the menu were not the same as the prices on the website... Just a heads up. read more

Had dinner here on a Wednesday night 3 weeks ago around 5:30. We arrived just in time to get the last table. Many other people came in after us but the wait was going to be long because of upcoming reservations, so my tip would be to call ahead and make a reservation! Small, cozy, friendly atmosphere, good service and great food! My wife and I both said it would be the perfect place for a nice date night dinner alone :) We will return! read more

OK, I just ate the best chop I've had in - forever. There are multiple types to choose from, and my apple/walnut selection was juicy and tender. Portions are big, and you may need to walk after this meal, so it's a good thing the beach is just steps away. Wait staff is excellent, but make a reservation, or be there early; there WILL be a line at the door. read more

Long wait, average Italian dishes. Salad contained beets (odd). Service was uneven. Chicken marsala was treated more like a pasta dish and served in a bowl along with pasta. Marsala was nearly missing from the dish. Ravioli were underwhelming. Bread was a good point. Dipping herbs were heavy on balsamic. read more

Tiny space, moderate wait, but well worth it. The food was incredible. My fiancé and I think it's a perfect place for a date night, with some of the best food you will be able to enjoy in Kure Beach. It was Easter and almost nobody was open after we had dinner except for Freddies. I called up and as a matter of fact they said that they were just closing but she still had one table still here. She asked what I was wanting and said I was looking for cannonis. I said two and I said I can be there within about 15 minutes. She went ahead and made the cannolis and they were fantastic. Absolutely delicious. Just the kind of Italian Flair I needed after a long day. Point is that Elizabeth went out of her way to make my night pleasant. As a business it's the sort of thing that keeps people coming back as life long customers. I went to a place next door earlier for dinner but next time I'm coming here. The "signature" pork chops were dry and completely over-cooked. The stuffed baked potato was likewise overcooked and tasteless. The lasagna with house meat sauce was so salty that literally my taste buds could taste no other flavor. I have to say this was the worst Italian food I've had in a long long time. read more

Wow. This is what you would call a hole-in-the-wall type of place that you seek out your whole life. The reviews are spot on. Strong staff effort. Very friendly. Extremely attentive. The pasta (red) sauce is phenomenal. Had it with the calamari. The dinner came with tons of warm bread and a delicious salad. The family had a mixed bag of food from the "Seafood Delight" to the Chicken piccata. And guess what, we all shared. We had too. Anyway, parking is tricky, but you'll find it. Other than that, the place is spectacular. We are fans. And will be back, probably, this week before we leave. read more

We called in a take out order over Labor Day weekend. Food was ready in about 20 minutes, as opposed to every other Italian on the island (wait times of an hour or more). Pulling into KB, everywhere was packed. I thought I would be parking somewhere up the road but decided to drive past first. There was a spot right in front, because they had marked off several spots as pick up parking. That was perfect. I went in & was a few min early, but everything was just getting plated. Once home, everything was packaged neatly & nothing leaked on the way. As for the quality, the food was great. A lot of places can't quite get take out right. Freddies does my have this problem. Shrimp weren't over cooked, cream sauce still looked great, salad crisp & the bread was still warm. Kids who normally won't stray far from buttered noodles were asking for seconds. Awful service and management. I got the run around for 2 days while trying to make a reservation, and I think I know why. Spoke with a manager 4 different times over 2 days trying to make a group reservation for dinner. Was promised a call back each time. On one call I was told the owner herself was confirming reservations and she would call me back. I'm still waiting. I had a white woman friend call to try and get a reservation, and guess what?? As a local rental property owner, I have recommended Freddies to tenants and friends for years. Not any more! read more

We have gone here twice and will continue going. Food is very good, seating is tight and a little off, especially larger groups of 6 or more, but they try and do what they can in the limited space. They are know for their pork chops, I would recommend going on the night they have two for one as this place is a bit on the expensive side and why not try and save where you can. Reservations are necessary well in advance because it fulfills up quick especially during the summer. Open all year around also is nice in the winter months and they do a great business all year long. read more

Since we ordered carry out I can't comment on the service but the ladies at the bar where we picked up our food were very accommodating and even admitted to mistakenly charging us a surcharge which they quickly removed. read more

Local is quite disappointed. Undisclosed "surcharge" was collected on takeout orders is a whopping 12%. Sounds like a story that we've all known a long time good food in a small venue. You need to expand your kitchen and seating area space iIS available. We had a group of 8, they took our reservation. The service was great, we never ran out of drinks. The food came quickly. We had chicken parm, lasagna, chicken Alfredo. The salad had beets in it, so ask for no beets if you don't like them. Would recommend! read more

Excellent, start to finish. Hostess quickly got my wife a table for two. Patrick our server of the night was perfect. Drinks and dinner were perfect. Dinner sizes were much better than expected. The additional highlight, the meals were flavorful, something if a rarity around here, but also larger than expected. Between the warm bread, family style salad and the dinner sizes, expect to take something home. Starting with positives: service was very good but got sweet tea refill instead of unsweetened. Waitress very attentive and courteous. Loved the 40s 50s Rat Pack music vibe. Clean but small space. The mussels were great and the spicy sauce very tangy. The salad very good and bread also. Our main course experience was disappointing. Wife's steak came to us underdone almost cold in center. Not the greatest cut of meat. My raviolis tasted like like those from a bag from the grocer. The marinara sauce on the raviolis was disappointing. Gio, my partner, was raised loving the Italian food that his Mother and Grandmother aka Nonna Gia (who he is named after) made from scratch with love. I have no experience with this cuisine other than chain restaurants like Johnny Carrinos, Olive Garden, or Romano's Macaroni Grill. We went to this restaurant last month for our 7th Anniversary after taking a tour of the area before we bought our home. He was almost in tears when telling me how much the flavor reminded him of spending Winters in Chicago during Christmas.
