I'll admit that I can be a bit picky when it comes to Italian food, so I am overjoyed to say that my husband and I loved our meals at Freddie's last night. We are currently renting a condo at Kure Beach and the owner of the condo recommended Freddie's as a "must visit." I am so glad we listened! Although it was a weeknight in the off-season, we still called ahead to reserve a table, which ended up being a good decision because when we arrived at 7pm the host said it was a 45 minute wait to diners without reservations. The restaurant itself is on the small side and a little more casual than I originally expected but still felt very cozy and intimate with checkered tablecloths. Despite how busy the restaurant was, it was still very easy to hold a conversation and to easily hear one another. Our waitress (I believe her name is Natalie) was attentive and genuinely friendly. In addition to beverages, the meal started with complementary bread and family style house salad. We loved the bread, and I really enjoyed the freshness of the salad with their addition of beets and chickpeas and the house Italian dressing, but James wasn't as much of a fan (to be fair, he isn't much of a salad person). We also ordered the fried calamari with marinara. The calamari was so tender that it almost melted in our mouths and it was fried perfectly, not greasy or heavy. We loved the marinara, too. For our entrees, James decided on the seafood alfredo which comes with shrimp, crab, and mushrooms, and I chose the shrimp scampi over fettuccine noodles. The scampi was light and lemony, without being too tart or oily, and the shrimp were soooo delicious. As good as the scampi was, the seafood alfredo was hands down the winner of the evening in our books. It will probably go down as one of our favorite dishes ever, which is pretty amazing considering how much we dine out. The sauce was creamy and decadent without feeling overly heavy, and there was fresh crab in every bite. Also, the portions are huge. Our only disappointment of the night was the chocolate cake. The cake itself had a gummy texture and the frosting was super thick and fudge-like. I am willing to bet that it was just an off night with this item and that it usually tastes better - we might have been more disappointed if we weren't still quite full from our delicious dinner. All in all, Freddie's gets an easy 5 stars from me, and I look forward to visiting again. read more

Make reservations!! The place is very small, but the food is delicious! Service is great, and the ambiance is excellent! I suggest trying to avoid the first table on the right, next to the window. Stopped into Freddie's after meeting two ladies at the Courtyard Marriott who raved about their meal. I arrived on a Saturday night snd the sign at the door said "sold out" but limited seating at the bar. I went in to check and it took me a few to get the attention of a waiter, who checked for an opening at the bar. Thankfully there was just one seat. I checked the menu and the bartender said many of their pasta dishes had cheese )-'ya'll know I'm dairy free) so picked out the ribeye with mashed potatoes. The meal started with bread that was phenomenal with an oil, balsamic dressing, an herb mix and salad with beets and garbanzo beans. Loved loved the bread. By this time the bar cleared and my meal finally arrived. To be honest, I think I should have ordered pasta as the potatoes were bland but the ribeye was nice and juice. Could of used a finishing touch of salt but tasted good. Will put this on my return list when the family comes next summer! read more

This place has pretty good ratings, but just look at that salad. Look at it! Sorry. But where are the cucumbers? And just a few small cherry tomatoes? And plastic forks that break. The bread was very good though--hot and tasty. The Chicken Parmesan was a large portion, but it was average to me. Then again, it's probably tough to get a decent Chicken Parmesan at the beach. I picked up from here because there was a two-hour wait. The atmosphere was way better than I expected. Superb service, decor, and cleanliness. So, big plus there. Outstanding food and service! First time dining there - dinner entree was huge and could have easily served 2 or 3 people. Wish the menu called this out because we had a full dinner for TWO nights with everyone ordering their own plate. Overall, the food was good: creamy pesto sauce & calamari were AMAZING! I absolutely love Freddie's. At the risk of repeating others, you MUST have a reservation. They will and do sell out. Everything I have had is wonderful. The only exception was once I got a pork chop that was tough. I really didn't blame them because even the best restaurants can get a bad piece of meat. I let them know and they apologized and immediately replaced it. The pork chops are magnificent. My most recent meal was the chicken francese. It was lemony delicious. I got it to go and it was served on thin spaghetti instead of the angel hair I had requested, but it was excellent anyway. Just try it. You will love it. read more

Went here on a locals recommendation and glad we did. We had a 8:30 reservation but they called around 7:30 to tell us our table was ready. We got there and had the best meal and service. They bring out delicious bread with this wonderful oil mixture. The salad for the table was delicious. Loved the beets, garbanzo beans, and the chopped cauliflower. Dressing was fantastic. I got the Chicken Parmesan which was two big cutlets covered in cheese and a wonderful sauce. My wife got the Chicken San Remo which is Marsala wine based sauce with tomatoes. One person got the Italian gumbo which was fantastic loaded with shrimp, sausage, and chicken in a creamy white garlic sauce. Other friend got the pork chop with peppers. He really enjoyed the chop. This is a must-visit when in the area! The service is great, the food is fresh and delicious. Our group makes it a point to visit each year. This time, our group was 8 people. We made the reservation in person a month before. When we arrived, they were going to split our group. Not cool. We ended up squeezing into one table and that was great. We appreciated the hostess' flexibility. Super sized house salad for the table and home made bread were sooo good. The shrimp pasta dish was outstanding, but a little too salty. Had been super excited about trying Freddie's after hearing great things about their food and trying to get a decent reservation time for months. We took an out of town family member there on their last night for a special dinner- while I'm sure the food is great, the service was an absolute disaster that others deserve to know. Our reservation was for 7 and things were rolling pretty good, got in a few minutes early and got drinks fast. Waiter seemed a bit short and non committal about making any menu item recommendations which was a bit irritating... at 7:06 he proceeded to tell us that the tables were on a 1.5 hour limit and he had the table reserved for 8. This was all of 6 minutes into our reservation time ... we'd been a bit chatty but this was absolutely ridiculous-- we were about to order, but this was a first! Needless to say this set everyone off and for good reason-- why did he feel compelled to tell us this- he wasn't saying anything to his other tables?? He tried to walk it back unfortunately it was too late... the manager came and said she was going to find another waiter... no one came... nor did she... however, we were fortunate enough to hear her and the wait staff talking about us from the kitchen. It's a pretty tiny place so they may want to take that outside. I'm sure the food is great, but not sure why Freddie's feels this is professional or acceptable behavior. Had our first visit last night. The location is in a little storefront a few steps from Kure Beach Pier....and The Kure Beach Park is oceanfront so a lovely setting in any season. Reservations are required and were exact. It is a cozy, intimate setting...great for families or a couple seeking a romantic meal. Seating is in upholstered bench seat booths with high enough backs to give you a feeling of privacy. They also have seating for those eating alone at the bar. They have a full bar. Food and alcoholic beverage specials are offered. Food portions are VERY large. The sauces and salad dressing are homemade....and delicious! We tried calamari for our appetizer, a chicken Piccata, Eggplant parm with marinara, and the daily special... chicken parm with marinara. Our grandson had penne with Alfredo. They have a nice children's menu that included a big round ice cream sandwich for dessert. Entrees come with the restaurant's mixed salad and homemade dressing...along with hot, fresh Ciabatta bread and good olive oil and herbs for dipping. We were too full to eat dessert there so we got a slice of Limoncello cake and Tiramisu to go. Everything we ordered was delicious Our server was friendly, pleasant and efficient. The entrance and bathroom accessibility is not wheelchair friendly but a cane or crutches would easily access both. The costs were expected, approximately $20 - $25 per person. A 3% surcharge is added to the bill if a credit card is used, and we were not aware but not surprised due to the cost for businesses who take credit cards. This could be mentioned when making reservations and offer the option of bringing sufficient cash. Overall, we enjoyed the food, service and ambiance and will definitely visit again read more

Everything is excellent. All of the 1 star reviews are from people who 1) didn't make a reservation (you need one) or 2) tried to get take out. Disregard them all. Karen's on the loose! Highly recommend the Italian gumbo. Sauce is out of this world. Everyone says it but the salad dressing.... Is so lovely and next level. I got the clam sauce pasta and it was delicious.
