He chatted with us for a really long time, asking about what we were interested in, why we popped in, and on and on. He also told us his own history and the Boulder Yard's history. He gave us a few specific suggestions and ideas, including that his sets are a bit different than most (they are) and, more important, his floor cushioning is very different than most other gyms. It is. It is much MUCH softer than most which is good but he suggested taking a few falls before we went too high just to get used to the feel. It's also like walking on the beach --- walking from one side of the room to the other will wear out your legs. His walls are not textured (mostly) so if you're planning to smear a lot --- well, you won't. But it is more realistic this way. The majority of the place is boulders but he's also got two workout areas with equipment, two separate rooms that he uses to teach some martial arts (didn't catch what kind), and, for the helluvit, a Nintendo/Playstation/whatever setup for, I guess, if you're tired and just want to zone a bit. We'll absolutely be back. We paid $54 for two day passes; quite reasonable I think. Oh, and he does his own woodworking (as do my partner and I). They also offer different lotions and massage oils that they will recommend or you can choose for your service. Some are CBD infused which is a nice and unique offering you that can't get everywhere. When I came for my first massage, my feet were very swollen, my hips and tailbone hurt terribly, and my shoulders had knots that needed to be worked out. I explained all this on the client intake sheet, and circled the areas I thought needed the most help. Before my massage started, Alison read over the sheet and we discussed my pain and what I was looking to gain from my appointment. By the time Alison was finished with me, my shoulders and arms moved without any tightness, she worked the fluid out of my super swollen feet, and when I put my shoes on, there was no pain bending over or crossing my legs! Matt (Mannick, DPT), my therapist consistently combined clinical skill with a calm encouraging manner. My concerns of being a 77y female who was minimally to moderately active were concerns of being treated as 'old' were immediately removed. The programs Matt designed were respectfully age-related still challenging strength, balance and endurance so I could safely continue doing the exercises at home. My presenting symptom ( sciatic pain) was treated swiftly allowing me to continue my activities without pain. And additionally he got my frequent sense of humor comments. With that original call I was immediately scheduled for at least a month, maybe two. When I arrive for my schedule appointments the front line staff checks me in quickly and notifies my therapist. Pretty soon after, my therapist comes to get me and we begin. Zach, is my therapist and I'm very grateful to have him. From the start, Zach was very personable. He makes me feel comfortable and always has a great plan of action. When I started at R2P I could barely drive my car and I definitely couldn't walk up stairs. Now, I can drive my car for hours at a time and I'm almost back to walking up stairs normally. Zach has a very good treatment plan for me. He makes me put in the work but I never over do it. At the beginning of the session I don't think I'm going to make it through but at the end I feel really good and I feel like I accomplished something. For virtual classes, you are sent a link in advance of class. The instructor know you are there and you have the option to stay on or off camera. 50 minutes of hard work and joy with a talented instructor and rising star! Having grown up in a military family, I enjoyed seeing how they incorporate that into each workout as you "fall in line" and have a battle buddy you pair up with (in this case, my Army veteran Father-In-Law)!
