Visiting my dad from out of town and I saw this place from the road. It was clearly a nice fitness club, nice building and prime location. Convenient for so many residents nearby. I was greeted by a nice young lady, wish I could recall her name. She was studying to be an accountant! She let me have a day pass since I was considering moving to the area. The website had a free pass for visitors. The inside had two floors and had tons of equipment. Being a gym rat for most of my adult life and an amateur bodybuilding competitor, believe me when I say this place has plenty of equipment. I did not have time to see everything but very clean! Friendly folks even at a busy time of day as well. I spoke to several members and the monthly rates are very affordable If you're in town or new to the area, try this for your workout. I've been a member of One Life a while now. All I can say is it just keeps getting better! First, it's affordable even for those on a fixed income. I have emailed Onelife 3 times to cancel my membership. They told me that there will be extra charges to cancel the membership. I told them fine charge it. They came back to me telling me they cant cancel since my card declined. Then they proceeded to charge the same card that supposedly decline the monthly membership fee with no problems. I love this location. The equipment is great and I love the indoor pool. The staff always look out for the customers and make sure you have the info you need to have a healthy weight management journey. They have a kids room that watch your child(ren) while you workout. I do wish they were open overnight and had a towel service like the Rockville location but still a great place! read more

They said I get a text never got a text or email. Went in and updated the credit card and they didn't activate it and said I had to come talk to a membership specialist. This place sucks read more

Mike - membership will guide through fees, look at possible discounts with certain employers. Josh - General Manager runs a good ship, quality employees and always wanting to know what could be better. The gym has good equipment, well maintained, and it and the gym is clean! Busy hours can be crowded yet not overwhelming slow. Wide variety of classes from spinning, yoga, extensive work outs. The trainers - skilled. I've worked with Tommi and Klay - they listen, develop a program to meet my (your goals) and exceptionally good at what they do. Highly recommend One Life - and if you have a membership you can go OL-South, Hagerstown, and the new facility in Martinsburg. I recently moved to Frederick and was nervous about starting a new gym. OneLife has been wonderful. There is a ton of equipment and various different areas to accomodate different workout styles. The gym and bathroom/locker room is always spotless and every staff member I have come across is friendly and accomodating. If you are interested in working with a trainer, Shelley is AMAZING! Her workout are challenging and will have you sweating almost immediately. I am not sure how she manages to squeeze so much work into a 30 minute session but she does! I can not recommend her or this gym highly enough. read more

Really tired of the pool not being heated and all we hear are excuses but it continues to break down often and even when it is running, still not really warm. Generally I like the gym but don't feel like the customers are listened to. I've belonged to gyms with pools most of my adult life and none have had this problem so often. A regular gym and I like how big it is and the variety of things we can do. It definitely gets crowded but people are nice. I think really my only complaint is the classes. They hardly have any classes and they're always at weird times like 10 am or 4:30pm which is extremely hard to make it to if you work a full time job. I thought most folks did? A huge part of the reason I joined was because I wanted to jump into some classes especially yoga but I guess the yoga classes are for people who don't work a regular job or job at all. Wish they'd add some late night classes or more morning classes that someone who works a 9-5 can make it to. :( read more

I really like this gym. I think it's very reasonably priced and it's amenities are fantastic. Sauna, pool, classes, lots of machines, free weights, and personal trainers. One life has something for everyone. Besides the amenities the staff is pretty friendly, the gym is always very clean, and the machines are well maintained. I only wish they were open a little bit earlier on the weekends. If I work on a Saturday morning unfortunately it opens up a bit too late for me to be able to make it in. My wife was visiting our daughter for a month and instead of pressuring us into a membership Josh and Brett took great care of her and got her set up on a one month pass at a very affordable cost. The facility has all the equipment you would expect and is laid out well. They even had some items our current gym in Seattle doesn't. My wife is very happy and can't say enough good things about the friendly staff who helped her when she couldn't find what she was looking for. I joined Onelife fitness North Frederick nine months ago. I didn't even use my membership for the first few months because I wasn't comfortable or acclimated with the layout and the environment. It was recommended that I take advantage of the complimentary training session so I was scheduled with Claire Liscinsky. To be honest, I was a little hesitant that she would understand my goals and be able to help me reach them given the age difference, but in my first session I quickly realized how smart and knowledgeable she is. I've been training with her for a few months now and she has helped motivate me to get back into the routine of coming to the gym and I'm back to actually enjoying it. She's always teaching me new exercises and how to use different pieces of equipment, most importantly she's taught me to be more comfortable in the gym again and I'm reaching different fitness goals that I have for myself. Claire is very smart, knowledgeable, and extremely professional. She listened to my concerns and goals and she's constantly helping me achieve them. read more

I would give zero stars if possible. I got off the phone with an unnamed general manager who I previously spoke with in person when he guided me through what u thought was cancelling my membership. I'm in school and don't feel the need to check a financial certainty such as a manager cancelling my membership, I assumed it was done correctly. I found out the harsh reality of trusting people nowadays when I found that I've been charged for the past nine months. I first walked into the gym when I was home on break and explained clearly and calmly what happened to a manager who was eating away from the public when I arrived. She said I could only do so through emailing the general manager. I then did such and didn't hear back for around a week. Fast foreword to today I call and am immediately allied a liar and that I didn't even cancel in the first place which was the issue in the first place. A great business should know that if the customer has interest in going back to their business. They better treat them with respect. They shouldn't be an incompetent, judgmental, rude and downright careless employees of this gym. Save your money at any other non chain gym. read more

This place use to be great. Then it became a something else. The workout area upstairs had a large open area where you could do walking lunges and your own individual exercises. Now it's a group training area which is usually taken up so others who pay to workout can't use it too. Kids are now being trained upstairs so they are up there and aren't told how to behave and are loud and always seem to be in the way and leave weights or their personal belongs in the way. There was greatness about this space and they took it for the "trainers" I use that term loosely. I've seen them with people. Some are ok but most are definitely more into watching themselves in the mirror than watching the form of the person they are supposed to be training. Sometimes I watch anticipating an injury because they tools are just so detached, unconcerned and unaware of what a good trainer should be doing. (I've had great trainers before... they would crush these guys.) The free weights area was ok. It's becoming chaos but not only that people don't put weights away and I see trainers again, just watching such bad form that I can't imagine someone hasn't hurt themselves yet. They get rid of equipment that is safer and more beneficial and bring in things that don't really serve a purpose other than a coat rack. The medicine balls are limited which sucks because the trainers take them often (and they take several at a time) which then leaves nothing for the others. Why only 1 set (incomplete one at that). I'm not understanding why the trainers don't use the classroom for training their groups when there's no classes or plan or schedule them for that. That room goes unused at time but the open floors are also what we need for working out too as paying customers. I have started to hate coming here because the trainers have been given so much territory that they feel they have this mentality of mine. They need to remember without me and others who pay to workout they would be unemployed. To have a space to share is one thing but a place that you feel unwelcome in for an hour or more because you have to hunt for space and equipment isn't worth returning to. The last and most important piece is the equipment... why is it always broken? Treadmills, ellipticals, the tv's that come with them, the bikes, even some other weight machines but most issues are the treadmills, ellipticals and bikes. Out of service, skipping or stuck tread, not working but no sign so you have to hop around till you find one, TVs don't work, bikes that don't sit right, squeak, or are jerking/sticking as you pedal. Why is the equipment not maintained ... I know this joint brings in enough person customer per month at $75-100 per month. No less than $50. You can't have equipment issues that take up 20% of your floor equipment. No one wants to use wonky or crappy equipment when they pay top dollar for a training facility in the area. Which this place charges the highest in the area. It's not worth it if you can't freely use the zones, equipment and anything you want when you come in for your workout. This is on my time to workout not yours. I pay to use the faculty just like many others and yet this place treats you like this building is more for their staff than it is for the customers who keep them employed there. This is not the most user friendly place but for now it's the only gym with a pool (don't let me get started on that). If another place opens with a pool or we get a home with one we will leave this place (we've even considered going back to the ymca because we've heard they've upgraded and changed things). Places in Frederick don't last because of service. Many businesses end because they just can't give what the customers need or want. This place needs to rethink their POA and really look at things from the POV of the customers bcuz they treat them like unwanted step children and it's not good for long term business. I've ran and managed businesses and this place misses so many possibilities. Their snobby tunnel vision is going to turn people away over time. I give it 1 star because the bathrooms are clean and nice (except the family ones by the pool .. those are disgustingly dirty a lot of the times). I wish I loved this place like we use too. They keep raising our membership cost but keep taking away floor space and equipment still isn't fixed. Hmmm priorities are definitely not lining up. read more

There was no remorse for my financial situation. Make sure that you won't move or get laid off when joining. They don't care if you are broke, as long as they get as much as they can out of you. Edit: To begin, my comment before had nothing to do with the gym - the gym is beautiful and have great people that work there. It was the situation I was facing via email. Right away, I was contacted by the GM and was given word of not being charged for the late month. As explained how this experience wasn't the greatest, it became a better experience very quickly. This gym is huge and that is its greatest benefit. There is a lot of exercise equipment, particularly for aerobic exercises. Although some here have complained that these machines are not all in working order I haven't, as a rule, found that to be true. The toning equipment is another matter. Lots of equipment simply goes missing or "wanders" around the gym. No one puts things back or cleans up adequately. The so-called personal trainers look to be mostly bored and disengaged. There is no good means of documenting the training here that is provided. read more

I can only speak to this place before it rebranded -- I was a member when the place 1st opened. The facility was actually super nice and the fitness staff really helpful. I am only giving it 3 stars because the way customer service treated me was horrid. For starters I was moving to get married and there were no facilities near where I was moving to (spoiler: didn't happen...don't ask) any way I was told I could not break my contract -- odd but ok whatever -- I guess people could lie about that ish... But then I got hit with a major blow and due to medical issues I was told I was not allowed to operate "heavy machinery" or be generally unsupervised which is another reason I needed to cancel my membership -- I even had medical paperwork... they offered to suspend the membership for me but I'd still be paying a "small" fee. I legit just stop communicating with them all together...it was just plain disrespectful the way I was treated. Then they rebranded and had the nerve to send me a message about how they want me to come back? Why? Your instructors are wonderful. Your business practices and pricing? not so much. So I really hope that's latter part has changed because it would be a shame for people to miss out on the former. read more

The main reason I signed up for this gym is because of the kids gym. If you go early it's fine but if you go in the evening when the school age kids are there it's terrible. Over crowed, the young girls they hire just stand around and watch the boys hit/ tackle each other and say nothing, they rarely interact with the Children that aren't babies. The last time i went both my 1 year old and 4 year old got hurt and that was the last time i went to that gym. There is only one older lady who seems to only work in the mornings to why there are 2 stars she's great other then that I don't trust my kids safe there. read more

This location recently rebranded from Sport and Health to Onelife. I've been happy to see that the quality of the gym is just as good as ever. They are constantly adding new equipment and moving equipment around and making other improvements to maximize gym space and provide a good workout experience. (As a marketing professional, I have to say that their new logo is kind of terrible-- it looks like the logo for an off-brand daily vitamin and it's out of proportion-- but if that's the worst I can say about this gym, that's not too bad!) read more

I really think they offer a great deal for people. I've dealt with the occasional pool temperature drops and closures when they happened. Overall, my health has gotten much much better with pool use. The sauna is nice too. I loved the other people that I met there. I would go up to Hagerstown for the whirlpool and hydromassage equipment. Anyway, someone apparently had a complaint about me, and I graciously withdrew. I don't feel comfortable there anymore, but I enjoyed it while it worked out. This just wasn't the gym for us. While the facility is beautiful and brand new, everything else just was not for us. Starting from the beginning- the welcome bags you get when you sign up have coupons for fast food! That just made us laugh. How can you promote health and wellness and then give coupons for fast food in your welcome packets to new members?! Ridiculous. The gym itself was full of lunks. People wearing cropped tops and sweatpants/shirts that say "sexy" etc. I'm sure that for some, this is an environment they enjoy, but we just couldn't handle the girls (and guys) taking constant selfies and videos of themselves in the mirrors working out/lifting/etc. It was just too silly for us. Not to mention I don't want to be in these videos. I value my privacy, especially at the gym. Members were not courteous with the equipment- maybe 20% of people wiped anything down. Many did 60+ minutes in cardio equipment at peak hours, even when people were clearly waiting. And lastly, the pool hours for laps were strange and not useful. That was a huge reason we joined- my hubby loves swimming laps. But only one lane was usually open for laps and that just didn't work out. All this to say- it just was not for us. Maybe for someone else. We are likely not their target market. We found our happy place at the downtown YMCA. read more

The reviews for this gym are not that good but I decided to go online get a free three day pass and check it out. It's $50 a month and it includes classes. There is an enrollment fee I believe it's $79 don't quote me on it though. They offer many classes she said they have between 7-9 classes a day. They have nice equipment the gym is rather new. The staff not very friendly, I saw alot of trainers walking around none of them even said hello. The lady who showed us around and gave us info about the gym was pleasant. The ladies locker room is small and the sauna. The pool is a decent size and the basketball court is amazing. I was shocked they didn't have racket ball. I'm increasingly disappointed when I come here. Firstly, make sure to take a tour of the gym during the time you will most likely be coming here. It is almost impossible to get in and do a workout after work as the weights area is swarmed with people. The sauna is also disgusting, which is upsetting as I enjoy it. There is actually a ton of mold growing on a piece of untreated wood on the underneath of the bench. Additionally, like the weights area it is so small it normally fills up which is a bummer. You're website, at the very least your mobile version needs to be redone badly. I couldn't even look at the class schedule because the the home page would not stop soliciting me to sign up so i could click the link. In addition to that the schedule was wrong so I walked in at the end. Going to this gym just feels like a sad LA fitness that costs more money. read more

I have been a member here for 6 years, using the personal trainers as well. So, I spent a lot of money here, the trainers were worth it! However, due to circumstances beyond my control, I had to cancel. What a horrible experience trying to cancel!! In addition to Kelly G for BodyCombat (thankfully, I have gotten to her class more often, and it's the cream of the crop every time out), I've also been enjoying Cathy for the same class, and Amanda S is tremendous on Friday mornings. Front desk staff has been absolutely wonderful in terms of friendly greetings. Weight room is.. pretty darn good. And I can usually find equipment to work on whenever I can get there. Very clean.. wish the guys would STOP going to the sauna without showering, but that's common to all clubs. Again, North Frederick, well done.. the upgrade in my review is completely warranted.
