I ordered the cheese burger with fries and got an extra side of onion rings. Service was great and I have zero complaints there. The burger was good. Not the greatest in the word but a solid flavor profile so no complaints there. I think they only have one fryer in the back so the fried and onion rings both tasted kind of cheesy. Restrooms were very clean which is always appreciated. they just had the rodeo on TV in a rather quiet main dining hall. It's a very large space able to accommodate large parties and had a very western design with lots to look at all around the property. Fred's was recommended, so my family decided to order several different things from the menu. Husband & I both worked in restaurants, so there's quite a bit of leeway we give a new place. We always order takeout at a new place so we can share & talk without in private. The 1 pound T-Bone was cooked to perfection and was just fabulous. Perfect, even close to the bone. The baked potatoes were also pretty good, with plenty of the requested toppings. All the meat, and only the meat, whether in a burger or the steak, were excellent. All had good flavor. Nothing we ordered seemed to have any spices at all giving everything a rather bland flavor. We literally had uncooked fries (or ones that just had a nodding acquaintance with a fryer) mixed in with the rest of the uncooked, rather greasy fries. After blotting them to soak the grease up, I had to finish them off in my air fryer to make them palatable. The onion rings were better but still undone, perhaps by 2 to 3 minutes. Patty melt was very greasy. Lack of ordered extra cheese and onions was disappointing. Pizzas (3 - 8 inch, cheese, ham/pineapple, supreme) were all decently good. Jalapeno poppers, mozzarella sticks were good, whatever brand they're buying is one they should stick with. The onion rings were nicely battered as well, so ditto for the company that makes them. Whomever was grilling the meat was the best!! The prices were pretty good for the meat, definitely worth it for the steak in particular. No, we would not recommend this place, except for the steaks. Wish the rest of it would've tasted & been prepared better. The atmosphere was quirky but interesting. NO handicapped parking, neither daughter nor I felt safe on our canes outside. Went to use a gift certificate received from a Montana friend that has visited Fred's several times. He loves the rustic atmosphere and a decent steak. I goofed up and ordered the Sausage dinner (expecting Kielbasa/ Polish sausage type) and got about a 6" diameter WAY-over peppered patty of sausage. It is a steakhouse after all, and I should have ordered a steak. My wife did and it was fine. The prices are quite reasonable and the food is fine, but not near great. The ambiance is interesting and the service is fine, as well. We were the ONLY patrons for the duration of our lunch. It is WAY off the beaten path and frankly not worth the drive for an average quality meal. We likely will not return! read more

The food is delicious. Let's start with that. The pizza, the burgers, the patty melt and fries- ALL done exactly as they should be done. The location is crazy! You're in the middle of no where eating this delicious burger while a sassy waitress gives you crap about the few questions you ask. She never brings you a fork, never checks in you during your meal- nothing. And it's still fun and so tasty. All I can say is: you gotta get out there and see this place for yourself. I wasn't sure about going to Fred's after mixed reviews, but I decided to try it for myself as I love places like this. I've been to my fair share of country type bars in the middle of nowhere, some good, some bad, some of the "y'all ain't from 'round here" types. Fred's was very welcoming and full of history. Off the two lane highway, down a rough and rugged paved road, then onto a dirt road into what looks like a ranching community, and down the road a piece on the corner, you'll find Fred's. A mix of locals and snowbirds from the RV park this place has indoor/outdoor seating, horses, history along the walls, cold beer, and good food. I didn't get too fancy on my first trip, just a burger, fries, and a pitcher of beer. Service was good and friendly and food was cooked just right. Honestly I can't wait to go back. I rode my motorcycle there and while the roads and dirt can be quite bumpy be careful of the loose sand if your riding. Definitely worth a trip. read more

Stopped in on the way back to Tucson after seeing it on Maps and the reviews. It's a hole in the wall, but was a great experience! Steak was grilled to order and everything tasted great. Came here for the first time. I ordered the steak fingers. Do yourself a favor and stay away! Completely inedible! Probably the nastiest thing I've ever tried to eat. It was the old left over gristle part of the steak that nobody wants to eat, then deep fried to make it even more tough and serviced with cocktail sauce? We had also gotten fried pickles, again a big NO, just not as bad. It was as if they took a 1/4 of a pickle spear and sliced it as thin as they could get it and fried it in salt. Such a let down. I was taken to Fred's for the first time about 4 years ago. It is located off large main road but there is absolutely no advertising anywhere. If you do not know Fred's exists, you would never be able to find it. Drive down this well maintained dirt road and one starts to see tractors, wagons, and a large place that looks like an old saloon. I can only imagine how great the place possibly looked 20 years ago. Birds from Mexico flock to Fred's.. and sometimes you can eat with horses walking aorund you. The idea and theme have so much potential. The view is great.. however.. over the past 4 years we have visited them a few times and every time we go.. the food is worse, the portions smaller, and the place more run down and filthy. We just got back from having breakfast. I don't think the menus had been wiped down in months. Just like last time, when you go to sit outside, the tables have not even been wiped down from the day before. There are a good dozen tables out there and we could not find a clean one. There was no one else there, this was at like 8 am.. all these tables were filthy from the day before. It is one thing to have to wipe them down due to dust, but if the staff is too lazy to wipe down the sugar, grease, cigarette ashes, etc from the night before to prepare for the day.. something is seriously wrong. The place looks like it is deteriorating before the eyes. For some reason someone thought it would be great to invest in cheesy Indian statues, but their ceiling fans are drooping & missing blades. Their tables and chairs are not rustic, western, or have any retro charm. They look like someone went to a few garage sales and found these thrown in a dumpster out back. There is a small fountain with broken concrete statues, trees growing under the edge of the building that have no where to go.. picnic tables too worn out to use, etc. The food.. "home fries" means 6 tiny 5" over cooked potato wedges. "Ham" means a tiny slab of gristly, over cooked and toughed meat that is to resemble ham. It is heart breaking that this is happening and I have held back from writing a bad review hoping my couple of experiences would change,.. but no luck. read more
