This was a rustic place. They have deals all throughout the week which makes it worth overlooking anything that's wrong with it. The back of the restaurant is where you partake in the deals. There are only picnic benches/tables and no AC. Like I said rustic. We went Thursday on steak night. I got the ribeye which was overcooked. The chef came out inspected it and then replaced it with a PERFECTLY cooked medium steak. There is no discernible salt or seasoning on the meat which was a little annoying but still a good meat. I got a drink with my order which was good. But the tab is taken care of differently for the food and the drinks. The deal comes with a baked potato, beans and unlined salad bar. Salad bar has a premixed greens bowl you take from and you can add tomato or cheese with the choice of 4 dressings and croutons. It was tasty. Parking lot is small and tight, so for event specials get there early...leave valuables at home, it's a sketchy area. Ambiance/cleanliness....it is a dive bar saloon with padded benches/heavy picnic tables in the back and no a/c. Concrete walls and dim lighting. The paper napkin dispenser had. wet napkins. 2 stars Service-Outstanding. They split drinks/food duties between 2 servers. Keri(sp??) was our drink server and was helpful, checked in and on point. Didn't catch the name of the food server, but she was also great. Really doing a great job out there...5 stars Food-We went on Thursday Steak Special Night. 26 oz Porterhouse, baked potato, cowboy beans, salad bar and a roll. One of our party got the ribeye, ordered medium and it was medium well..they made it right. The food was in the 20 dollar range and it tasted it...but was a solid value. Steak flavor was enjoyably grilled, decent chew...nothing bad...just not memorable...potato was decent, cowboy beans were delicious...due to the outstanding value...4 stars. A classic old Tucson experience. The steaks are good, cooked on a mesquite pit right in the dining area. The prices are very reasonable. You eat on a screened patio out back. There are shared tables and a bunch of people smoking cigarettes, so if you don't like that, maybe it's not the place. The space is not air conditioned, so recommend going in the cooler weather. read more

I'd seen several mentions of this establishment in my Facebook feed, so we decided to give it a try. It's a little hole-in-the-wall with a lot of regular customers coming and going. We were welcomed in by the bartender/server and told to sit wherever we'd like, inside or out. Although it was dark inside, we didn't want to sit outdoors where people were smoking. They had a variety of menu options, plus a few specials. We ordered their largest burger, which came as two half pound patties. We got potato salad with that. We also split the fried chicken basket and upgraded to onion rings. The food was all good. The chicken maybe a tad overcooked, but we enjoyed our meals. Service was friendly and efficient. I think this place is probably hopping in the evenings, but we were there early afternoon. Right now there's construction going on in the street right outside the bar, so it is a little challenging to get into the parking area. read more

I ordered the $8 fish fry. The bill shows it as $9 (even though ALL signage around the place say $8), the waitress brought out a basket of ice cold fries, and 3 pieces of Fish. No ketchup to dip the fries in, no Malt Vinegar for the fish, and disappeared for 30 minutes never came back to ask if I wanted any more fish or if everything was good. Not my first visit to Nevada Smiths, it will be my last. We arrived around 4:20,we knew they don't serve untill 5:00 but we wanted to get a good tabel, there were only about 10 people there when we arrived. We waited about 10 min to get a drink order and the server was not very welcoming and it took another 10 min to get our drinks. The server was irritated when we told her the drinks were not what we ordered.​ I ordered a dozen oisters about 4:30 they didnt arrive untill after 5:00 and the server said there were only 10 because they WERE REALY BIG. Just befor 5:00 they started taking food orders and went past our table and took orders from people that had just came in. We were the very last table to get served. Never again! read more

Yeah, could've been a better experience. We came on filet mignon night and they were OUT of filet mignon pretty darn early in the evening (before we got there). Not only that, they ran out of salad by (which comes with every meal) by 7:30 and even potatoes. The four of us got the last three potatoes, so my friend gave me his and he had nothing to show for it The meat was pretty good, what food we received, so I cannot complain about that. And running our of salad and potatoes is fine, but nobody told us that when we ordered (that they were running pretty low). Sounds like a management issue. They could have done better. As a longtime patron of this establishment for many decades, a recent shake up of employees due to reasons that I'm sure were legitimate. You (whoever you are, Darryl's wife, daughter, owners of shooter's) better be hands on for a while because the lazy people that you have in there now are not going to cut it. I'm not sure what is going on here the past few months but it is not good. The food and service has been terrible and it seems that a new crowd of customers has set in, also a few of the familiar faces that have been working here for years have disappeared. One of the bartenders that usually works during the day shift (see her when we stop in for lunch) may be the new owner as the past few times we have been in she has had a couple of the picnic tables in the back filled up with all of her intoxicated friends and they are loud and obnoxious during what in past years has been an enjoyable steak dinner for me and my family. I sure hope this doesn't continue on the path it is headed, as we love Nevada Smith's! read more

So, having enjoyed a few tasty lunches at this establishment, I decided to take a couple of local friends to dinner here for their Thursday Steak Night. I had been told that the place can get very busy, so we arrived around 5:30 to find the place filled with couples, families, seniors, and regulars, sitting at the tables and enjoying their steaks and chicken breasts. One friend opted for a 10 oz sirloin ($15), another one the chicken breast ($9) and I decided on the 16 oz New York Strip ($16). The meal was preceded by a trip to the salad bar, which was basically just a big bowl of chopped iceberg with red onions, with shredded cheddar, croutons, and our choice of ranch, bleu cheese, Italian, or thousand island dressings, self-served in the sort of melamine bowls I remember from my school lunch lines back in the day. It was simple fare, offered with a dinner roll, but it was fresh and we enjoyed it. Soon our meals arrived and, as expected, they were massive; each came with a baked potato wrapped in foil (there are large plastic containers of butter and sour cream near the dinner rolls - serve yourself) and a whole lot of ranch-style beans, rather nicely seasoned. The steaks were very well cooked - we sat near the huge wood fired grill where they were made - and we couldn't make it thru more than half of our dinners before we requested take-out boxes. (Needless to say, dinner on Friday night was our leftovers.) The place was busy, but the service was great - our waitperson stopped by multiple times to check on us and it was obvious that there was great camaraderie among the wait staff. And the final bill came to around $50 with tip - outstanding for three huge meals. A few words of advice: Come early. Steak Night is indeed popular and they've been known to run out of baked potatoes and certain cuts of meat. Since Tucson has a sizable senior population, a lot of the diners arrive between 5-6 for an early meal before it gets too dark. Be aware that, though the food and the service are great, the neighborhood is somewhat less so. I didn't feel unsafe, mind you, but just the same I'd want to be on my way home by around 8:30 pm. Finally, remember that this is a dive bar. A really great dive bar, but still the sort of place where the regulars order generous shots of Jack or Fireball, often with beer chasers, and they can get a bit loud as the evening wears on. No judgement here but, if it's basically dinner you want, come early, enjoy, then head out. Or, if the mood strikes you, order a few shots yourself then join in the discussion - your call. read more

My initial review of this place was below with 5 stars. It was my first time and the wings on Monday really were great. I went on steak night (Thursday) and I had to change my review and stars. They were super busy. I was able to order 1 beer when I sat down. I asked for a menu and the bartender said someone else would bring it. I didn't get a menu until I'd been sitting for over 30 minutes, finished my beer too and never asked if I wanted another. The only reason I got a menu cause because the guy next to me was a regular and she asked him if he needed something. Not sure I would've seen a menu without him. If they can't handle the customer flow, they need to hire. I was there for an hour before anyone cared except my first beer. Don't go there on steak night unless you have hours to wait for your food. Went specifically to get wings on the Monday wing night. Bartender was AWESOME. I am a die hard wing lover. I got the pineapple sriracha flavor. They aren't the best wings I've ever had but they're were pretty fricken good. And for the price, they were outstanding! It's a dive bar so expect a dive bar. You can't come to a dive bar and expect find dining ambiance. I ordered a dozen to eat there and a dozen to go. 3 meals with for me. Also had 3 beers. My total was about $30. I love that the local, mostly senior citizen folks, rolled up around 12 noon to get their drink on! The service was great both the bartender and the wait staff joked around with us. There were 7 of us at the table. Our food came out, cooked perfectly and quickly. The patio was packed. There was a line waiting for tables. So the fact that our food was prepared as we ordered in in a timely fashion was great. We were there on steak night. I had a 26 ounce porterhouse it was delicious. For folks who have never been there the patio is not completely enclosed so in the winter you wanna wear warm comfortable clothes. They do have heaters and they help a lot but if you're prone to get cold, you might not enjoy the patio. We were all quite comfortable. I'm not sure there's any place you can get a 26 ounce poterhouse for $23 including a baked potato salad rolls and butter and beans. It's a fun and unique place. read more

Went on Thursday steak night and was not disappointed at all!! They start taking orders at 5 so get there early it gets packed. Everyone in my party got the 22oz Ribeye for 21.00!! Very flavorful and cooked perfect medium! Meal also come with ranch beans, salad and baked potato. Great deal for great meal. They also have 2 huge grilled chicken breast for 13.00! I'll be back next week for the New York Strip! One downside is they do not have Prime so don't go expecting to see Thursday night football. read more

So we stumbled across the Friday fish fry on a web page of "things to do today in Tucson." honestly, when I pulled into the parking lot I really wondered if we were in the right place. The saloon has been in place for nearly 80 years as I understand and has been under the same ownership for the last 30. We sat out in the back patio, everything there is picnic benches. Pros: the fish was absolutely amazing. It tasted quite fresh, it was crispy on the outside while moist and flaky on the inside. Friday night fish fry is all you can eat, and it only takes minutes for them to bring you more pieces. The Cole slaw was perhaps even better. It had just the right texture, a delicious sauce and a nice crunch. You only get one serving with the all you can eat fish. I would have traded all you can eat fish for the all-you-can-eat coleslaw. The servers were very friendly. Cons: Cigarette smoke!!!! Sitting out on the patio it is apparently okay to smoke on the patio. One of the servers was regularly smoking at the bar, and patrons would walk out of the bar which was no smoking and light up as they walked out to the parking lot. The selection of beers is limited. And the beers on tap, our only the top three names in American beers and their light version. There are other beers available in bottles, but most people know that's just not the same as a good draft. Soda on the patio comes only from cans, Diet Coke is surprisingly temperature sensitive in the can and I can tell by the taste, that these have had some exposure to heat. Mixed: I don't really sure what to say about the venue. It had a certain road house charm that I just loved. It felt a lot like going to the local bar with my family in Kansas. On the other hand it was fairly dated, and could probably use some fresh paint. The parking lot could use better lighting. Two of us both had the fish fry, we had one draft Budweiser and two cans of soda and with tax we were still out of there for under $20 plus the tip. Saturday night deal is a 22 oz porterhouse for $17. It's hard to beat that. In spite of a few cons, I still give 5 stars because the quality of the food at an amazing price served by friendly people wins the day. On the outside it looked great but on the inside it was RAW, I mean really RAW. Hard to chew RAW. I sent it back and it was a little better but parts were still RAW. My girls chicken breast was BURNT. I mean really black. She Sent it back. The Baked potatoes came late but were undone. I mean really hard in the middle. Didn't send them back as we had been there over an hour. For the price they have really big steaks. The ambiance is like an old western bar like in the movies. Wait staff is very friendly. This day they seemed understaffed. Go for the fish on Fridays. On steak night if its really busy the people at the open fire grill get really overwhelmed. These types of joints seem to be a thing in Tucson, meaning, a bar type of place with a wood fired grill. They run different specials on each Saturday of the month, mostly steak specials. I had a bone in ribeye. While the steak was a good size, but I don't think it was a 20 oz pre cook weight steak. The dinner comes with salad bar, beans, and corn. My steak was cooked fairly well, rare, but didn't have too much flavor. I don't think the steak was seasoned too well before cooking. The attached bar is a total dive bar. The staff is friendly, but not the nicest or cleanest establishment I've been to. Overall OK place. read more
