I'm really kicking myself for not trying out Fred's earlier. It's in an easy to get to location with easy parking and have most delivery services available. The menu is bigger than expected with several burger options available. I picked up two Philly's, a kids meal, and fries for a very agreeable price. Love the sandwich #8 Philly and skinny crunch fries are perfect. Only complaint is the place needs a wipe down. The outdoor window by the door look like someone puked or slung Something at the window days ago. All tables weren't wiped down because quest throw there own tray away. Ok before I even tried my food Fred's had already received my utmost respect. While I was waiting for my food 4 students from Trinity walked in and 3 ordered the 4th had a little trouble finding his cash, his friends were also struggling to get enough change together when either he is the owner/manager told the kid just to give him what he had and not to worry about the rest....that plus the food was good I would say 4 stars for the food but that little act earned this establishment a 5 star rating. We ordered the Mushroom and Pepper Cheese steak sandwiches. I got the Pepper "hot" with the sauce mixed in. Both were very good, but not quite as spicy as the chef would have you believe. I love Fred's. To me this place is comfort food from PA. The guy who runs this place is Fred's son and he is a friendly chap who does a great job keeping things clean and orderly. Emphasis here is on fast, hot, and simple. Cheesesteaks here are basically finely chopped meat, onion, and Cheez Whiz - no slices of cheese here! For those saying they can't "find" the cheese in their cheesesteak, it's because the stuff dissolves into a kind of gravy/grease on the meat that either clings to it or gets partially absorbed by the bread (and wrapper). For those that want something more on their cheesesteak, you got alot of variations that include mushrooms, peppers (banana, jalapeno, and cherry), various cuts of meats (steak, Italian sausage, chicken, and bacon), one with lettuce and tomato, and two "cheesesteaks" that're vegetarian - one with black beans and one without. I ordered the 10" Philly cheesesteak and while it wasn't fancy, it was hot and pretty filling. The cheesecake came with a little cup of red sauce for dipping, which definitely gave it the bit of extra flavor it needed (at least for me). Taste-wise, the sauce was a bit reminiscent of the red Arby's sauce at Arby's. If cheesesteaks aren't your thing - they apparently also do cold-cut hoagies, salads, grilled chicken burgers, veggie burgers, and regular burgers. They advertise on the menu this thing called a "Fat Fred" - a cheeseburger with a mound of cheesesteak on the patty. Side items vary a bit more than what you normally see - cheese fries, onion straws, "hockey pucs", mozzarella sticks, fried pickles, and "Philly Tooth Picks" in addition to regular AND sweet potato fries. Personally, if you're on your way home from work and just want to swing by and grab something quick for dinner - these guys are great for that! I walked in, ordered, and was out the door with my food in under 10 minutes (leaning more toward 5-ish minutes), all on a busy Wednesday night after driving by several fast food and walk-in restaurants that sported lines of 8-10+ cars/people. Yes, the place is sorta small, but it's maybe 5 tables and if it's you and a small party, you should be good. Yeah it's greasy, but it's a cheesesteak and more importantly, one that uses WHIZ, not sliced cheese - so be warned! Still, if you don't mind the occasional indulgence, give this place a shot! read more

Stopped in after years of wanting to try this place and WHY DIDNT I COME HERE SOONER?!?! I tried the 6" Po Fred Cheesesteak and a side of the crab fries; the sandwich was so flavorful and the perfect ratio of meat to bread, and the fries were crispy with a generous sprinkle of old bay crab seasoning that enhanced the flavor in a totally delicious way. First time to eat at Fred's. This is easily the best Philly Cheesesteak I have ever had. From the bread brought in weekly from Philadelphia to the perfectly thin sliced steak and onions that all caramelize so nicely on well seasoned flattop grill. I had the #2. Philly Cheesesteak w/provolone and the Philly Toothpicks. The cheesesteak was cooked perfectly and the tasted and texture was great. The Philly Toothpicks and the House Sauce were very good as well. Disappointed in this Philly cheese steak. It was basically a grease ball. The meat was chopped to the consistency of paste and even tho we asked the cook before we left we couldn't find any cheese. I couldn't taste anything but grease. I had expected maybe a sauce for the meat to cook in, onions, mushrooms, peppers and some freaking cheese on it! There was nothing but smashed up meat. My Aunt said it was more like a loose meat sandwich with nothing else on it. Sorry to Philly if these are close to the real thing, but this just wasn't what I was hoping for. Yuck. To be fair tho! I only tried one sandwich. And the fried pickles were terrific. A little skimpy on the dipping sauce but still very good. Over all I will not go back. Not impressed. Since I am originally from the East Coast, I was looking forward to trying one of their cheese steak subs and I have to admit that they do give you plenty of steak on their large subs. The biggest problem is the roll that they serve it on. It is way to soggy. Also the steak itself didn't have a lot of flavor. Also tried their crab fries since I love old bay seasoning. However it is apparent that they use some other seasoning which is not as good. Overall their food is good but I was hoping that it would be better. Probably won't return. read more

We called in a lunch order for six people. After placing the order over the phone, the woman read back the order to confirm it was placed correctly. It was. When we arrived to pick up our food, our order was again read back to us to confirm it was correct. It was. After picking up our food and returning to work, we found that several components of our order were, in fact, not correct and/or missing completely. We placed a call to let them know this, and we were met with complete rudeness. They demanded to know "What do you want us to do about this?" They asked that we bring back the incorrect portion of an order to "swap it out" with the correct item. Seriously?! It's as though the person on the phone completely forgot that he worked in the service industry. There was no apology for the inconvenience, nor was there any attempt made to remedy the error. A rude, angry, and accusatory staff does not inspire repeat business. We will not be back. read more

I've eaten here several times, as well as the Fred's in Grapevine, and both are really good. Not a big philly cheesesteak guy, but I usually find myself here when I want one. Fries and onion straws the usual fried standard, but they're fine and I'm here for the sandwiches anyway. I usually don't review multiple locations of any chain places. The reason I'm doing this one mainly is to help offset the 1 STAR review from the person who had their obvious fragile feelings hurt by the employee who turned the door sign closed at two minutes till close. Honestly? Sheesh... Hey, maybe the employee's watch read different? Maybe they had already shut down some of the grill or kitchen equipment? Maybe they just wanted to close on time for a change...Who knows! The fact is, the reviewer wasn't even going here in the first place, but got upset. Kinda like the 1 STAR review I read from someone one time who was upset at the long drive thru line at In N Out and "The line is too long, I'm never going to eat here, forget about it, 1 star". Sorry, just my own personal rant here. But if you haven't eaten here, don't slam the place for basically...nothing. If other fans of Fred's feel the same, I encourage you to do what I did, get on the Yelp website, and flag the review. read more

This place is NASTY..... they fix your food with their bare hands and they are not required to use gloves. They nasty cook/ owner that was fixing the sandwich was rubbing is nasty head and then started touching all over the customers sandwhich. I walked out and will be reporting them to the health board. This is how people get sick. GLOVES NEED TO BE WORN WHEN TOUCHING CUSTOMERS FOOD... Lots of germs and bacteria are in your nails and on your skin. Please change your hygiene requirements in your restaurant.... I called them to ask why no gloves and the manager or owner screamed and was calling me names.. The staff could not be more friendly and the food could not be more tasty! I had the 6-inch cheesesteak with sweet peppers and fries. Best philly cheesesteak I've ever had! They also have their own signature dipping sauce and hot sauce. I didn't try the hot sauce, but the other one was the perfect complement to the sandwich. As another Yelper said, it's no-frills and you order at the counter. It's a great spot to go for a quick lunch.
