The dark interior made me a little uncomfortable and ordering is a little clunky. The food is excellent to say the least. Food came out hot and fresh but the cashier had a bit of an attitude. She actually gave our order to another couple. We had to go back up and ask where our food was since she was serving people who came in after us. They rectified the situation quickly. We tried this place on a whim hoping for something new and local and we'll definitely be back! We had no problem calling in our order and it was ready right on time--the owner was literally making the order fresh as I arrived! The cheesesteak is to die for--I have never had one and I'm super picky and I loved it! Bf who ordered it was so impressed too! (He got the #4-6in was huge! Only comment was that he'll ask for it cut in half next time! they also do an 11in size--he suggested starting with the #2 if you don't need extra meat), we got two orders of fries which are perfectly priced for the size, really good, could maybe be crispier if you need that but they're perfect for a greasy spoon type diner, and also grabbed the onion strings which are awesome! like mini really crispy onion rings--order extra you'll love them. We also grabbed the bacon cheeseburger, good for the price and what it is but it's a premade patty so I'd order the fat Fred steak sandwich next time! Driving to get something to eat with my pregnant wife is always interesting. Her taste change so often and rarely makes up her mind on where to eat. Heading to Chicken Express, she spots this newly opened cheesesteak shop. I oblige and change course towards Fred's. They were very inviting and excited to cook for us. Another couple was already asking the questions I pondered upon entry. Huge menu and options were endless. They explained they were just opening, had many more sandwich ideas and had more additions coming to the menu. Dining looked plain and TV placement was quite odd. Food was tasty. I enjoyed my sandwich but employees is what will probably keep me coming back. I thought the cheese should be melted on top of the meat. Spicy BBQ was good and added a nice touch. We tried to go to our favorite Philly place for lunch today (Donnie's), but they are in the process of moving from Mansfield to Arlington and the new location has not yet opened. Still wanting phillies, we decided to venture a little out of our way to Bedford to try Fred's Downtown Philly, which I'd seen get a lot of good ratings lately. On the surface, Fred's reminds me a lot of Donnie's. There were two very friendly people behind the counter cookin' up a storm. Very casual order-at-the-counter environment, menu has the basics of many varieties of cheesesteak, burgers, and hoagies with the usual sides. The cheesesteaks were offered at a 6" and a 10" size. I ordered a 6" #2 (steak, cheese, and onions) with fries, my husband ordered a 10" #6 (steak, cheese, peppers, onions). A few people were in before us so we waited a few minutes for the food, no biggie. It's all made to order. I think they might have been out of 6" rolls because both my husband and I got the same size roll, but his had twice the meat and cheese on it. 6" worth of meat and cheese spread over 10" made for a very thin sandwich. I couldn't actually taste the cheese at all. The meat tasted fine, I have to admit the sandwich was much more flavorful after I added "Fred's House Sauce" to it. The bite I had of my husbands was also more flavorful as the peppers added a little something extra. Overall, I think my sandwich mostly suffered from the dilution. I am guessing the regular 6" is stuffed appropriately. That said, I'd strongly consider ordering extra cheese if I were you. One thin slice on a cheesesteak is not enough at all. The fries were decent, fresh and crisp, with a bit too much salt to my taste though. I'd ask them to lay off the salt in future. Prices were pretty good for what I got -- if I had added extra cheese it would have been more along the lines of what other places charge though. Overall, I'd give them a 3.5 that I'm rounding up for being friendly and clearly caring about their business. I have to admit though, I am really spoiled by how amazing the Phillies are at Donnie's and also at our new local eatery Mo's in Arlington. You're definitely better off at Fred's than someplace like Philly Connection or Texadelphia though with two top notch Phillies in Arlington, I probably don't have a reason to drive to Bedford. If you're local though, definitely give them a visit and don't forget the extra cheese. read more

So I got the Boardwalk Cheesesteak with a side of onions rings, which was not all that great but it was alright. The batter on the onion fries to me was not tasteful and they were oily. Worst customer service ever. Placed an order through door dash and received the wrong order. Called immediately to get it resolved and was told to call DoorDash. The driver from DoorDash explained it was the only order he picked up from there at the time so to me it seems like a error from the restaurant. However, when I called them the man, who I believe is the owner, didn't take any responsibility for the error. He said he would call DoorDash and follow up with me because he needs to make sure he gets paid. I called him at 3:45pm and at 6:00pm hadn't heard back from him so called again. The same guy was very rude when I asked if this was going to be resolved and said I can bring back the food from 3 hours earlier. Then I went to ask a follow up question he abruptly cut me off saying he was not going to argue with me. I had not raised my voice or even expressed frustration yet his response was I'm not going to argue with you. I then said "wow are you the owner". His response was to hang up on me. This was such a disappointing experience as I have supported Fred himself for years. I've been to the Dallas, Plano and Allen locations where Fred is present and provide service and it's NOTHING like this. I am very disappointed that he can carry the name on this Industrial location. Co-workers and I went here for lunch. Really small place, but you're in for a surprise. I got the #2 which is a Philly Cheesesteak. Got the 6 inches, that really isn't 6. It's close to maybe 8. The other size is 10 inches. I got fries on the side so the 6 was just right. Got our food very quickly considering there were a lot of people eating there for lunch. Once I took a bite into the cheesesteak, I was hooked. Very juicy and delicious. Fries were crispy. Service was great. Downside, well not really a downside, is that your clothes smell like onions after. So if you have an important place to go, might not want to wear your best clothes.
