First visit to Polk City Barbeque and it is worth coming back to. We ordered a Grilled Cheese & Brunswick Stew and Iced tea($9.99), and The General Van Fleet with three sides (Mac n cheese, BBQ Pit beans, Brunswick Stew - and we ordered an extra side of Sweet Apple Cole Slaw($29.99). The General Van Fleet included brisket, pulled pork, ribs, pulled chicken and sausage with your choice of Bread and we chose Texas Toast. This was more than enough for two people to share. I am a brisket person and this brisket was very moist, a bit more fatty than I prefer. The brisket was also a bit more salty than I prefer (mind you, I don't ever salt anything). The sausage was pretty perfect tasting and texture. The pulled pork was probable pretty spot on, even though I'm not a big pork lover. The chicken was chicken....pretty good with any of the three BBQ sauces on the table. The ribs were tasty, and didn't need sauce. The sides were all pretty good. The beans were really good, Sweet Apple Coke Slaw tasted really good and fresh, the Brunswick Stew was a bit different than we are used to and more like a chili and good. The Mac n cheese was creamy and ok. The grilled cheese is made with 5 cheeses and perfectly made.....this is something definitely recommended to consider ordering when you visit. Service is friendly and outstanding. We are excited to return to try some other menu items including the Couch Potato (a fully loaded potato including your choice of meat). The dining room is medium size with tables for two, four and 6. They offer dine in and carry out also. For our first visit, we really enjoyed this and will return! read more

I've driven by this BBQ spot several times and we decided to try it out for lunch. The service was great and the prices were good for BBQ ( Bbq in general can get costly) so that's a plus. The brisket sandwich had pretty good flavor - however it just had way too much fat and was very greasy. The smoked pork quesadilla was better but was also a bit greasy as well. What a great restaurant!! My friend and I were supposed to meet at a different restaurant but when I arrived it is closed on Monday's. So I searched for other restaurants in the area and Polk City BBQ came up and we decided to try it. Apologies for not posting pictures of the food but we were hungry. She had the brisket and I had the pulled pork which both were delicious. You HAVE to try the grilled corn bread!! Ridiculously delicious. The bonus of this place is the ice cream shop next door. That did not disappoint either. And kudos to the owner who put a sign up that said "take care of your customers or someone else will". Came here on a Sunday evening, no one else in the restaurant, almost thought it was closed. Lots of pics on the wall touting awards and festivals, so i was def excited to try some good southern bbq. I had the brisket platter, hash brown and collards. It was good, but nothing special to me. My wife had the pulled pork, and felt the same way. First of all, I want to say that Scott, our waiter was awesome. He was so friendly and attended to us very well. The barbecue was very good between my husband and I we had the brisket, the chicken and the ribs. All were very good and the sauces were very good. Plates are large, so beware.lol. Their macaroni and cheese was so delicious and we also shared Apple coleslaw, potato salad, and green beans. I have the cornbread which was so moist. Honestly I don't get it with this place. They are inconsistent. Service is always good and it's clean but you go to BBQ for the BBQ. Not like a regular restaurant with lots of choices. Just want good BBQ. Tried them now 7 times. Three times were pretty good. They have an issue with lack of regular business in my opinion. I've gotten old or BBQ with little smoke flavor. Hard to find any other seasons on the meat either. Only good thing is it's moist. We drive by there all the time and there zero cars in the parking lot. I note that with others in Polk City. We stopped here on a whim without hearing much about the place. The old-school decor is likable, and it definitely has a vibe that most bigger chains are missing as of late. The wait staff was terrific and attentive, and the menu is packed with affordable dishes. But the food itself is REALLY good. The mac and cheese is to die for, and there's a chicken and grilled cheese sandwich that's yummy. The sides, including the Texas toast, are also excellent. Where do I start at with this review because it was 200% horrible and that's a compliment!! The first waitress came and took my drink order (water) it never came out. 15 minutes later the kitchen help/bathroom cleaner came out to take my drink order again. She looked like she just woke up and hadn't washed her uniform all of 2025. So we let all this go and order our food with still high hopes of some good bbq! So ordered the Brisket plate and the Big Pig plate. The food came out fast which was great after waiting basically 30 minutes from the time we were seated. The food comes out horrible presentation and looks pretty much inedible. Still confident that we were in for some good bbq. The brisket had no smoke ring or smoke flavor, no bark, no taste, no texture(just fat). I have no idea how it was cooked but it was a major fail and insult to bbq and brisket. The potato casserole had no seasoning at all and tasted like just raw shredded potatoes. The slaw was ok at best it had chunks of mushy apples instead of shredded apples. The cornbread was horrible and was not edible. The cornbread was griddled on a dirty griddle or with some dirty oil it tasted rancid. I had some really high expectations from the previous reviews and boasting award winning bbq. I have eaten bbq around the entire country and this is not bbq. As said many times if you go to a bbq joint and don't smell or see smoke than you should leave. At Polk City BBQ you should run instead of walking away. We've ordered through delivery from Polk City BBQ multiple times and every time it smells so great we forgot to take pics as soon as the food shows up. We get the platter with sausage, pork, ribs, brisket and sides. The food is amazing and makes for great leftovers. I wasn't a fan of the cornbread the first few times (not bad, just not amazing either) but there was a change and last night the cornbread was amazing... it seems to now be baked in a skillet (had that skillet crust on it). The Big Pig was a bit pricey for the portion size of the sandwich. It too had some dry meat on it. The apple coleslaw was delicious and highly recommend it.
