It's rare I go through Portsmouth/ Waverly going to and from Columbus. But this time I did, and I haven't had Fred's Pizza in years and forgot what it even tasted like so I thought we'd have a little adventure and stop. Orders are placed at the counter. Pizza on the thinner side with sweet sauce, very common style in Appalachia. It tastes a lot like Gino's in West Virginia if you are familiar with that chain. I did really like it. I don't think I would plan a trip specifically so I could stop there but when I find my way back that way again, would be happy to stop in especially as there are so few places along the route. read more

Being in the area doing some work, I stopped here to get some pizza for my Operators. I'm glad I did! I called and placed and placed an order with a very friendly person who was happy to help. Also, when I went in to pick it up, they were all very cheerful, kind, and polite. Although I didn't eat in, the inside was very clean, inviting, and smelled amazing! Living in the city of Chicago, my operators and I are very keen to a good pizza. And this was one of the best! Love eating at Fred's! Such a cool place and atmosphere! Plenty of parking and everyone is always. Inside is always clean and so fun to just take it all in. So much fun stuff in the walls I have yet to try the pizza as I am usually passing through (65 miles from Columbus) and want a sandwich. My absolute favorite here is the Beef Steak hoagie w/lettuce, tomato, mayo, & onion ($6.70). The Stromboli, Italian Sub, and Philly Cheesesteak are other good choices. Went to pick up pizza the other night and was thrilled. We usually went to another place but didn't really like the pizza. I saw how great the reviews were for Fred and we decided to try them out. As soon as you walk in you are met with a very clean establishment. The service was very good. Was created with a smile with a small conversation wishing us well the area as we are new. The pizza was very good. We also got mexi sticks which my mom liked very much and garlic knots not to overwhelming. Source was very tasty we will definitely be going back. read more

The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is because their pizza is not bad. We have eaten here many times over the last few years when camping nearby. This was our last time. Their calzone was like eating a cracker. They serve fountain soda, but no longer "have water". You have to buy bottles of water. For $9, you get 5 of the tiniest wings ever-- oh and no celery, no Bleu cheese. "It comes with a cup of ranch" I was told by the lady at the counter . Oh yeah, they don't do table service anymore. I've had better service at most Chinese buffets. They definitely ask for their tip up front though. It's really a shame, because this used to be a solid place to go. But the restaurant had only had a 2 top occupied while we ate there during Thursday dinner rush. Looks like the locals have figured out that Fred's has given up caring about their customers, and are relying on fleecing transient diners for that single, subpar, overpriced meal with trash service. read more

This was a great little "find". Good pizza and a nice area for dining. The atmosphere reminds me of Max And Erma's in Columbus. We sat in a booth and we were able to see several TVs. Each booth had paper towels for napkins and our waitress brought all our needed silverware in a metal tumbler. The restaurant seemed clean and the service was efficient and friendly. We had plenty to look at and to enjoy while we waited for our pizza. Nice self-serve area for beverages. If you're a root beer fan, you can even get seconds! read more

We ordered a pizza which was ok. But when asked for tap water was told we had to pay for bottled water, never experienced that my whole life at any American restaurant. Not part of a post Covid service fee, not even able to get tap water. This is a place you walk up to counter to order, pay before you eat, and sit yourself at table and wait. Nothing fancy. Use to work in Waverly a few days a month, so have gone to this place many times, never heard of no complimentary tap water before and Freds in Portsmouth and Wheelersburg never denied request tap water request. This was my second visit to Fred's in Waverly. The food was good. Staff was very nice and the place is very nicely decorated. Restrooms are very clean! Prices are a bit high. When you arrive you have to go to the counter to order and pay for your meal. Just a side note - there is no real need for a tip. You as the consumer, do all the work. Short of bring the food to you, the staff has very limited involment in your experience. You find your own open seat and fill your drink at convently located soda dispensers. Couple of points / complaints / suggestions; 1. Pepsi Products - Pepsi is un-American - serve Coke 2. No Alchohol - Who has pizza with No Beer? Again un-American - Lost a star for that one. 3. Evaluate Prices - Food is good, but the lack of staff involvement should allow for cheaper prices. Overall my experience was a positive one. I would give a 5 Star if they had enough food out for buffet. We did get there at 1:30 so could be why but lettuce was low and no fresh pizza came out. I do give the decorations and style of place a five star!!! Super cute and clean. Condiments, napkins and silverware was available without asking. Love how you could fill up your own drinks. 3 Star for the customer service. Girl at register wasn't very friendly. Tho I guess she just needed to take our order and money. Did have two girls stop at table and ask if we were ok and took our dirty plates. Only one other table was occupied. Love the arcade games and great music selection. Excellent restaurant. Ordered deep dish pan with pepperoni and mushrooms. Also, a 1/2 pound of wings with moonshine bbq sauce. ( Mistake should have ordered a pound because they were delicious!!!). The pizza was good. Service was quick, and helpful. No complaints. read more

We have come to this restaurant several times and each time we have had issues, but today takes the cake. We get there at 12:50 and get the buffet. We stand until 1:30 because they haven't put any food out on the buffet. Nothing but stale spaghetti left and a corner of a burnt breadstick. We finally give up, because they're obviously not going to do anything and our children are starving so we complain and say we'd like to leave. The little girl we talked to says nothing and just turns around and storms off into the kitchen. Next thing I know another employee comes up and we tell her our children are hungry and we'd just like a refund. She doesn't apologize, just stares blankly for a moment at us and says "well...we're busy" and then very rudely huffs and puffs while she tries to figure out how to do a refund (which, she couldn't understand at all and ended up giving us cash instead of refunding our credit card. Nice). First of all, they weren't THAT busy. There were still seats in the room so I'd hardly call that slammed. Second of all, why are you selling people the buffet when you aren't going to put food on it? And finally, why are you going to be a rude prick to your customers when it's your fault that you can't keep up with Sunday rush? We ended up leaving and went to the Pizza Hut next door. We got our food there quickly, it was amazing and the waitress we had there was so sweet. Even better news is we got two pizzas and a whole plate of breadsticks for 10 bucks less than what our bill would've been for Fred's junky buffet. I wouldn't go to Fred's pizza, unless you want to be sorely disappointed. It's terrible. read more

We have come here twice in one week it is so good. Sunday we got the buffet which was great as we got to try so many things. And tonight we came back to order all or favorites for a Mother's Day celebration. I recommend the family size cheesy bread, chicken bacon ranch pizza (my fav), BLT, sausage, pepperoni and mushroom pizza and the family size cinnamon bread pizza for dessert. Well worth the drive! Usually a fan but stopped today & the service was terrible. So terrible I requested my money back. We ordered a medium pizza, 1/2 sub & dinner salad. They brought the sub & said they would be right back with the salad. We finally had to go ask for the salad, after the sub was already eaten. Never got our pizza. They said there was trouble with the print out of the tickets. Not too much trouble for two other tables to get their food. I finally asked for my money back. No excuse. there is waitress service if you go for none buffet. you only serve yourself if it's buffet. the whole "mass produced" comment is only for buffet. I know for a fact they make their dough and pizza by hand. It is cheap and good. their buffet is a little more commercial but alot cheaper. read more

Fred's Pizza in Waverly Ohio does not listen to customer's suggestions regarding their salad bar and loud music. The music is always so loud that customer's have to talk very loudly to each other to be able to carry a conversation while dining in because we cannot hear each other over the loud music. I have told them this more than once; and I have heard others tell them also but they do not lower it. Mostly all of the food on the salad bar is good, however, with the cinnamon desert squares a customer is very lucky if they can get them the minute they are put out. Then they taste great and are soft. But the majority of the time they are hard because of being left uncovered. I have suggested to them for them to cover them with the plastic covers like Ponderosa and the Chinese Restaurant does. But, our suggestions fall on deaf ears. I was in line behind a woman who walked off and said they were to hard. Just as I did after. They probably think that they are eaten regardless of being hard when actually they are just being returned in the scraps left on the plates. read more
