I'm glad we came across Howard from Fred Transmissions from Massapequa. He diagnosed and repaired our Van torque converter and 100% transmission clean up. He said it would take approximately a week. The worst of the worst. Please listen and do yourself a favor before going to this rat of a place. The old grandpa that runs it charges you 995 right off the bat to look at whats wrong for your transmission. Then if you do the work with him, you won't need to pay the 995 so he claims... Whatever it is, the price to fix your transmission will be insanely high so he screws you either way since he always has you starting your bill at 995 minimum. If you're looking to fix your transmission please look somewhere else!!! This guy Howard the owner comes out as a nice guy in the beginning but in reality a monster. I came to the shop because reviews were so good but I think it's so fake. He told me he's going to diagnose my transmission for free. Then calls me up and tells me there's no way to know for sure if we're not going to open it up. And I agreed, and asked how much will it cost me in worst case scenario. He replied $1200 if you want to proceed leave $600 deposit and we'll go ahead. I agreed and left him a deposit. He calls me up next day and tells me there's a problem and it would cost $2199 to fix. I immediately asked what happened to worst case scenario $1200? He said few hard parts were broken and I said we had agreement for $1200 worst case scenario. That's where he became a douchebag and said there's always an option where you can pick up your car and loose your $600 deposit. SCAM ARTIST please save yourself a headache and money!!! read more

Needed a new transmission and waited about a week before I was able to pick my vehicle up. Only to have to return four additional times before the slipping stopped. Each time I was told it was fixed. They had my car for at least 6 weeks in total. Before a year was up the transmission started slipping again. Any good experience has to have been lucky..(so far). Here is an update on the repair: - They agreed to repair my transmission for $2,100 - Next day it would not shift past the 3rd gear -brought my car back, it spent two weeks in the shop - picked it up today, drove it home and transmission broke again Will bring it back to the shop tomorrow. I don't know where to begin. Howard & Roe, they are sweethearts, I've made new friends. I was skeptical at first to take my Benz to a transmission shop other than the dealer but Howard being so patient & listened to my problem unlike any other car shop who would ask you to come & charge you for a diagnosis. Howard's a veteran in this business & know how to run his show. I was convinced & I took my car to Fred's. They spent almost 2 hours with me with the test drive, diagnosis & explaining me the problems I might have & gave me a couple of different solutions. I was convinced & came back end of the week & dropped it off. There were other aspects to the transmission other than just the actual transmission that needed to be fixed, Howard fought tooth & nail to get me the best prices on all the OEM parts I needed. At the end of the week, I took the car delivery. As he promised, the car drove like out of the showroom. It took its course to break in the new parts & get re-adjusted & re-aquatinted with the cars electronic modules. Today I'm happy to have Howard & Roe as friends. I happen to own a Burger Bar in Rockville Centre & it's always a treat to see my friends come for dinner & drinks. Did I mention to you that they also provide 2 days of free rental, so your on your way to work right away. Also, he followed up on how it was driving almost every other day just to make sure everything's ok. I love you guys. Best car repair experience I've ever had. Decided to take my vehicle over Fred's transmission world turned out it was a minor issue had a defective speed sensor or something along those lines. I have a 2005 Cadillac that the dealership wanted $3900 to fix the transmission. These guy quoted me $1495 but after opening it up found I need another $240 in parts. Ended up costing me just over $1700 so a hell of a lot cheaper than the dealer. Took them three days and everyone there was friendly. Howard is a total scammer. I have brought a few cars to him, mostly for transmission work. At first, I trusted him because he makes himself seem like a good and knowledgeable person, however, he is not. He always ends up charging me much more than promised but I never complained or argued, I just paid. The last time I brought my car to him, he also ended up charging more than he guaranteed he would charge. But not only that, he had the car for THREE weeks. I called his store at least 4 times a week and his wife answered and told him to call me back but never did. At the end I had to go over there myself and then he tells me a bunch of bullshit. After we paid more than what we were promised it would cost, we left and a short time later we have other issues with the car. So if he give you a cheap price, it is most likely because he isn't fixing the whole problem. I did not bring it back to him but will probably need to file a lawsuit against him. HE IS A TOTAL SCAMMER, DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR TO HIM UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF. P.S. all the positive reviews are probably from his family, friends, and wife (ROE) and he does not check your transmission for free unless you end up letting him do the work. read more

I called freds transmission shop they told me it was 700 to rebuild the tranny & I left my car there & I called back & they told me they have to see whats in it & if it requires buying parts they going to let me know, I called them back again & told me it was going to be 2500 to fix, and if I didn't want to do it I had to pay 700, so I paid the 2500 & I also told them can you guys check if theres any other problems to tell me so I can be aware & as soon as I left I ask him everything is good, he said yes, as soon as I drive it my RPM was close to hitting 0 & I went to stop at the bank & my battery was shot, so I had to call someone to come jump me and buy a new battery & I live in long island by the way, so I came back 2 weeks later on a Saturday to see if he can check why the RPM is so low, he said I have no one here, come back next week & I came from long island & had to go back cause he didn't want to do anything & 1 to 2 and half month later I been hearing noises in the hood of the car & when I went to go take it to a regular shop they told me it was the tranny that was messed up, I tried to take it back to freds transmission & I got stuck in the middle of the parkway because something in my tranny snapped & it wouldn't move no where & had to tow it to the shop & paid $240. So I called the shop the next day cause it was late and i told them you need to give me the money back for the tow because that is not my problem that you guys didn't do your job right & they said ill see what I can do & call me back tomorrow. if I don't get my money back, ill take them to court & also get my money back for the tranny for being a bunch of bullshitter, Luckily I have another car that I still could of went to work with....I DO NOT RECOMMEND NOOO ONE TO GO THERE, TRUST ME!! UNLESS YOU WANT A HORRIBLE JOB AND GET RIPPED OFF!! read more

My car wasn't that bad just a little noise under my feet if I drove over 50 but I wanted it to be checked, so I took it to what use to be King Bear in Seaford, and they sent my car to this place where they said it was the transmission and that they'll fix it for 350.00. The next day they call my husband saying that it will also need some new parts and now it will be 1,200.00 to which he respond that we didn't have that kind of money. Then Howard told my husband that he could get a loan for him to fix the car. the next day after my husband signed the lease they called saying now it will be 2,500.00 to fix the car, at this point I realize this was a fraud, then my husband told him that we didn't want to fix the car at that price and he said well you have to pay me 800.00 already to put the car together and it's not going to work at all.then I went in to the shop to ask the guy for a copy of the lease, which of course he didn't wanted to give me. He said he didn't even have a copy of it in the shop but the original was right in the counter so I took it and after he beg me for a copy I let him make a copy of it and he promised me to fix the car for 2,100.00 for good. We picked up the car two days ago, I didn't used it yesterday and today I took my daughter to the local library and we couldn't make it back home the car start shaking and making an amazing bad noise, then smell like burned and end of story we had to walk home. Now we owe the lease money the 900.00 my husband borrowed from his boss and I don't have a car.
