A truly honest mechanic. The "David Puddy" of Long Island. Worth his weight in platinum! Our entire family has been devoted customers of Garrett's for decades. We send EVERYBODY we know his way when there's a clunk, buzz, or flashing light on the dashboard! He even helped me get my first used car back in 1993, and our family were customers long before. Tim Garrett, the owner, is an honest, kind and considerate man. The crew there makes every effort to take fix our cars as quickly as possible. He carefully screens his employees, and he has let a few go that turned out to be less-than-honest. Everybody working there is great and pleasant to deal with. His prices are always reasonable, he stands behind his work, and will even do some things for free for his loyal customers. Our family never frets when a "check engine" light appears, because we have peace of mind: we have Tim Garrett and Garrett Care Care! EDIT: I just noticed a few one star reviews. Those have to be fake, planted by local competitors! The experience they relate is 100% at odds with everyone I know who has visited and had their cars taken care of. read more

I have never written a negative Yelp review but I feel I MUST do so now. Forced to give a star but none are deserved! This business is a complete and total ripoff. They are incompetent, keep stringing you along and when you finally do get your car back, the problem persists. We hung in with Tim due to a sense of loyalty..... Big mistake! Many wasted dollars including "fixing electric windows" (twice because the first time did not work) for $800 a year ago. Guess what stopped working? Yesterday I brought my car to a different repair shop just up the road on Merrick Ave and the window was fixed in several hours. I learned that most of the work done at Garrett reflected on the receipt, was unnecessary and done sloppily and incorrectly. Save your time, money and aggravation... Tim took the time to help me out and look at my car. He concluded that I really didn't have an issue, just possibly the random place I went to get an oil change didn't clean up under the car, resulting in some oil drips that I found in my driveway. He even showed me while my car was on the lift! He cleaned it up and even ran the computer system monitor device to check throughly. I appreciate his honesty and going above and beyond my expectations. I will definitely go to him for any future needs! His time was greatly appreciated. read more

Honest, friendly, and fast--three qualities every car repair shop should have. I brought my car in while it was making horrible loud noises under the hood. They gave it a quick glance and said I needed some sort of gasket thingamajig (they said the actual name for it--this is how I remember the name for it). I left it to be fixed on their recommendation of "I don't know how you're actually driving this car around." They called after they put it up to give it a further look and said I didn't need the thingamajig; on a more detailed inspection, I needed the water pump hoohaahoo (again, not a technical term) replaced instead. Then I got my car back the next day with no more horrible loud noises. read more

Buying a car is stressful enough, sleazy dealers are everywhere, but fixing your car is worse b/c they know you don't know anything. So having a trusted, intelligent, economical mechanic is worth his weight in gold. Garrett Car Care is that mechanic. I really shouldn't tell you b/c it's been my secret for 20+ years. Here's my experience with Garrett car care. I came here on the recommendation of somebody and was told the mechanic is nice guy(which he was) and that he would take care of my car. I took my car here to have the drive belts replaced along with an inspection and an alignment. After having my car there for a week I called to see what was going on. I was told that the crank pulley was bad that's what was causing the belts to fray and that he was having a hard time finding the part. I ended up ordering the part from Honda and bringing it to the shop. Two more weeks go by and I still haven't heard anything from the shop so I call and I'm told that they're going to do it tomorrow. Another week goes by and still nothing. Finally I get a call saying that they did the belts and pulley so I ask about the inspection and alignment he says they'll do it tomorrow. Three more weeks go by with me calling almost every other day to see what's going on and I was told that they were driving my car around (which I was charged $35 to do) because they reset the check engine light. So another week goes by and I call again and they say it should be ready by the end of the day(had my car there for about two months now). So I go there about 7 that night and pay what I owe them which came to a little over $500 I get in my car and leave without really inspecting the car and just trusting they did what they were supposed to. I stop to get gas and as I'm pumping I notice that the whole side of my car has red paint and scratches like it was in some kind of accident like it was side swiped or something. So I look over the rest of the car and notice a fairly large deep scatch on the hood as well. I didn't even bother to call and complain about this because I doubt they would've fixed this for me. So Tim if you ever come across this review please feel free to give me a call anytime and explain to me what happened to the side of my car and the hood. read more
