When traveling, I find food tours a fun way to explore a city, learn about its history and try local flavors. Subsequently, during a recent trip to Savannah I signed up for the Southern Flavors Savannah food tour. This tour had many different options for days & times for the tour and had relatively small tour group sizes, which is always appealing! Our tour guide, Maddy, was fun and knowledgeable. She share information with us about the history of Savannah and tailored her talk to our interest. She was accommodating and did not rush us at any point, allowing us to sit and socialize at the different establishments. The reason I gave the tour 3 stars is because the food served at some establishments was underwhelming. Some of the bites included shrimp & grits and bruschetta & champagne while at other restaurants we were given a dollop of humus and some tortilla chips. What makes the activity a success is a great tour guide and group of tourists. We were fortunate that Maddy was great and our tour group was awesome! I had a fun time at the Southern Flavors Savannah food tour and would do it again.

My cousins and I did the dessert tour provided by Southern Flavors Savannah and had a great time! 6 dessert stops and each one provided a full dessert serving, so come hungry and pace yourself. Bringing leftovers was highly encouraged. My favorite stop was Paula Dean restaurant serving peach cobbler but the Tondees Tavern cheesecake in mason jar was a close second. Excellent host/owner in Cricket. She was friendly and fun, sharing knowledge, history, and tips along the way.

We took this tour on our last day in Savannah and we should have booked it sooner. Food was a nice mix of different historical sites and mixed with a great mix of flavors. Patrick was our guide and he was a wonderful wealth of knowledge and a nice guy!

Really good tour, highly recommend!!. You walk about a mile total but it feels like so much more because of the amount of different places you go and things you see. The guides are very informative and helpful and it's a good way to explore different restaurants you may not have thought about or known of. Food was really good at each spot and you get a really good portion. I was completely full by the end and I even skipped breakfast!

Be prepared: this tour is not for foodies. The guide delivers interesting historical information but in such a way that doesn't allow for questions about anything. There is no information about the food such as preparation or ingredients; and I'm pretty certain no chefs are involved in the preparation of the food. The servings are uncharacteristically small for a food tour and frankly, not very good. I asked our guide/owner what the criteria was for choosing restaurants for the tour: "they have to be open 7 days a week." The tour was interesting because the other guests were charming, friendly, funny and fun. We did learn a bit about Savannah but most importantly we learned which restaurants to avoid..... the 6 on the tour.

The mead's are real good and they have other drink options available. It's a small festival but worth going!

The winery has a large property with plenty of space to explore, including what appears to be a small farm with chickens and pigs. On a warm day, the outdoor seating areas with games would likely make for a lovely experience. However, when it came to the wine tasting, the samples were served in plastic cups, which some may actually prefer. But for us, it took away from the overall experience. And most importantly, the wines themselves just didn't impress our palates. We tried a variety of their offerings, but nothing really stood out or compelled us to purchase a bottle to take home. It's a shame, because the setting is really quite nice. But at the end of the day, the wine is the most important factor, and this winery missed the mark for us on that front. If you're in the area and want to spend some time outdoors in a charming environment, it could still be worth a visit. But I wouldn't go out of your way, especially if you're a serious wine enthusiast.

There is a trolly tour that's offered for about $18/pp which takes you around the plantation. Since we arrived late in the day, we opted not to do the trolly tour, but instead, toured the gift shop, sampled all the hot and cold teas (I think there were 12 samples), and took the 15 minute FREE factory tour. The teas? delicious! The tour? Super educational! It was great learning how tea grows, harvested, and processed. Whether you're a tea drinker or not, you will love stopping here. And if you're not in a rush, go sit in a rocker under the trees, or at one of the many picnic tables. Enjoy the fresh air and the sound of the birds. You won't be disappointed!

I'm not sure if it's the only tea plantation in America or just the oldest (I haven't been able to figure it out on Google either), but it's certainly a unique experience - tea grown in the United States! When you visit, there are several different things you can do. They offer a Factory Tour (free), where you walk past windows looking onto the factory floor and stopping at different TVs where a video about the history of the Charleston Tea Garden is played in portions at each stop/TV. There's also a trolley tour you can book. The trolley tour is a narrated tour through the tea fields, including a stop at the greenhouse. The offer a Tea Bar in their gift shop, where you can sample hot and iced teas made from their teas and shop for other souvenirs and gifts. It's a really unique experience, and I learned a lot. For example, I didn't realize that green, black, white, and Rooibos teas all come from the same leaves/plant (Camellia sinensis) - the differences come from the part of the leaf (white tea is made from young leaves) or the processing of the leaves (green tea comes from unoxidized leaves, while black tea leaves are fully oxidized)! But the experience is pretty dated - the factory tour in particular! The videos were really dated and hard to hear with some many people in the area where the videos played. And one TV - the last one - just stopped playing the video, so we missed the end of the "tour." The trolley tour was interesting but would probably be better enjoyed in the spring or summer when things are more lush and green. It was a little gray and dry in the winter. It's worth a stop if you're in the area and want to learn about tea (some parts of the experience are free, so you can just pop in for a tea tasting and a sit on the rocking chairs on their porch), but I wouldn't say you need to go out of your way to visit unless you're going to be in the area.

There was zero clear signage indicating that parking was prohibited or that vehicles would be towed. No warning signs, no visible notices--nothing that would reasonably alert a driver. Within a very short time, my car was gone. I later learned it had been towed, conveniently and quickly, by a towing company that seems to patrol this area aggressively. The whole situation felt like a setup designed to trap unsuspecting visitors. It's hard not to believe there is some level of coordination when towing happens so fast in an area with no posted restrictions. The towing fees were outrageous, and the process to retrieve my car added insult to injury. What should have been a pleasant Savannah experience turned into a costly and stressful ordeal. Tourists beware: if you're anywhere near Savannah Carriage Tours, be extremely cautious about where you park--even if it looks legitimate. This experience seriously soured my visit, and I would not recommend supporting a business operating in an area where situations like this are allowed to happen.
