OMG this was my first time tasting Freebirds and it was amazing. The workers were friendly and the price was good too. I will be returning.

This restaurant ( on trimmier road in killeen) only had one cook and one cashier during rush on a Thursday. Mobile and online orders were ignored because the single worker in the front couldn't make a burrito in under 10 minutes so there was a steady revolving door of customers that she prioritized over my order that was already placed. It took 45 minutes from walk in to leaving just to get a single bowl to go. Super slow and move to Their own pace when a line was clearly present. A few people after 7 minutes of waiting and no acknowledgement that they were there said some expletives and walked out. No one seemed to give a sh&$. When the guy behind the counter finally got to me he had an easy disposition which gave him the additional Star, but then I got food Poisoning shortly about two hours after. Food was OK. Service was horrible. I ordered online, got there 5 minutes before the time i ordered for- they didn't have my order. After showing my email confirmation, it "finally" showed up. I go find a table to wait. Long story short, after waiting for over 25 minutes and watching no less than 10 people go through the line during that time, getting their orders done before mine, I went to ask about the status of my order. I was told I had two orders ahead of me and now they had an attitude with me. Seriously. Not a fan. It took over 30 minutes AFTER my pickup time to get my order done. The pricing appears to be false advertisement. I ordered the special which was $12.79 and added low carb tortilla. Which was an $2 up charge but when I got to the register, it showed $17.79. Is it me or is the math not matching? Last time I checked 12.79 plus 2 is $14.79 plus tax. Not $17.79 plus tax. When I asked why I was charged differently, no one could explain. First, the A/C inside hasn't worked in a while. They now have a portable unit behind the counter so at least the employees assembling food have some cool air. Second, how are you going to serve obviously uncooked steak? The steak looked like it had been left out for a while and there was a bunch of raw pieces mixed it. I ask if I could get steak that wasn't raw and was told "it's medium rare", uh no that's raw and even if it were medium rare, you telling me it's safe to eat uncooked meat that's been left out all day? Third, the refried beans looked like they were days old. The container was crusted and seriously looked disgusting. The Spanish rice was in the same condition. That's as far as I could get, It's not worth eating raw meat that's been sitting out for who know how long, old crusty beans and old hard rice. You can't expect people to pay for terrible quality food that's likely to get you sick. Do better, because this is ridiculous. read more

The service I received at Freebirds was incomprehensible! Was waiting in excess of 15 minutes for service. I find that very incompetent and unprofessional. There was no regard for customers waiting in line to receive food. Freebird workers did not come back to inform me what's going on. The incompetence was astounding! The Freebird workers had a too lacks of a work environment. Very unprofessional, that led me to believe that management approved of such work practices. I was waiting so long that I decided to leave the restaurant angry and upset because I had to wait so long for such horrendous service. Super friendly staff! We've been several times and the staff is consistently stellar! The food is really good and prepared well, according to protocols we all have to live under now with COVID. They go through Spanish rice pretty quickly, so often there's a bit of hard rice, but it's nothing like people are posting. The food is definitely very good. read more

I love all the Freebird chains!!! Great location beside HEB!!! Get your hunger fix before you head to HEB, its never good to grocery shop on a empty stomach. The staff was very quick and fill my order promptly. I was a little upset that they didnt have ANY Sweet Tea ready but I will live. The staff are friendly, a big change from 2 years ago. And the food is great but kind of pricey but at the end of the day it is worth it.

They have a "Monster" burrito option, at $10, I definitely got ripped off. It really wasn't big at all, definitely not a Monster, and definitely not worth $10. I also purchased a glass bottle Fanta soda, it was warm. At almost $14 total, plus tip, I won't be going back. read more

I don't know what happen to this place but the food isn't as good as it was before. We ordered two burritos and mine was wrapped in so much foil because it wasn't rolled correctly, it was basically falling apart. Towards the middle part of it, was a whole piece of cilantro! They could have at-least cut it into pieces! Now to the second burrito my husband ordered steak. He was so disappointed because the meat was so tough and chewy and burrito was cold! Well, this is my first time at a Freebirds and I must say I am impressed. Never had complaints about Chipotle, but I must agree with Trevor in that it beats it hands down. I stopped here to try their steak burrito and because of a 2 for $10 special, ended up getting another one with carnitas. Pretty great deal. I love that they have beer here. They also have free, fast wifi so that an awesome plus! My 2nd to-go burrito is going to not make it home after all. Now on to the actual food. The sizes can get ridiculous! The 2 for $10 special was for 2 Freebirds which are pretty big already. The choice of tortillas was pretty cool and for the steak burrito I got a cayanne. The choice of toppings was pretty good and I loaded mine up with the free stuff. I wasn't all impressed with the steak and it kind of felt a little chewy to me, but it was all meat and no fat. The fact that I could choose freshly cut jalapeños instead of the pickled type was cool, well, more like hot! My appetite was satisfied with that one. After a couple of beers and downloading movies on their free wifi, I decided to dig into my 2nd burrito. That was was with a spinach tortilla and carnitas. Must say that their carnitas are pretty darn good. I might order that one with extra meat next time as I think they are worth it. The tortilla had good texture and a nice mild taste to it. I put their white cilantro rice on this one and upon the first bite noticed the taste. Some regular hot sauce, pico de gallo, fresh jalapeños, lime juice and black beans made this selection an immediate favorite of my palette. The meat had a nice seasoning on it and was salty enough to flavor all of the other ingredients. I will definitely come back. Fantastic burritos! Although the first Freebirds can be found in California, Texas is really where it took off, and some would argue, where it really began. With 3 restaurants in College Station alone, I tend to agree with them. The Killeen Freebirds is every bit what I would expect: friendly staff, fresh ingredients, and burritos that err on the side of huge! As a matter of fact, the smallest burrito they offer can easily be cut in half and eaten as a light lunch with the other half reserved for a mid afternoon snack. (...yeah right, unless you've got the appetite of a 6 year old, you're getting a real burrito!) Bottom line, grab a buddy and get a Monster Steak Burrito on cayenne with mixed cheese, rice, refried beans, pico de gallo, corn salsa, and roasted vegetables; then wash it all down with a Dos Equis and finally, complain about how you ate the whole thing as you waddle to your car! My coworker recommended this place while on TDY in TX and I have to say, I'm a fan! The ingredients are fresh, the service was fast, and the food was good. I think what makes this burrito place stand out is that they have different sizes! They have four sizes to choose from to be exact, all of which can be served on a flour, wheat, spinach, or cumin tortilla. I got the smallest of all the sizes because I didn't want to overeat and it was perfect for me! Going down the line I chose cilantro-lime rice, black beans, chicken, veggies, tomatoes, mild sauce, and garlic wrapped up in a spinach tortilla. The gentlemen who put this roll of amazingness together for me was very nice and wrapped my burrito to the perfect tightness. I was impressed with how fresh all of the ingredients tasted. The flavors were mixed together wonderfully and the mild sauce added perfectly to the overall taste without being overwhelming. What I was most surprised about was the BBQ sauce! I took some in a little cup just to say that I tired it and it tasted wonderful! I'd definitely try that BBQ sauce with the chicken if I ever get back here. PRO TIP: for those of you who are on diets but still want a tasty meal from here, you're in luck!! I believe this place is famous for its huge burrito and everything was pretty fresh! I ordered the chicken burrito and it was not bad. Perhaps next time I should try their beef, so I can compare this with Chipolet. The decor inside was very nice, great place to hage out with friends! Super friendly staffs, and you can play with the aluminum wrappers...you'll see many people've done their art works and left them o the side of the wall. Very interesting..and I made mine too! My husband and I tried Freebirds for the first time and we were disappointed. The rice was undercooked. It made it hard to enjoy the burrito because there was a crunch in every bite that didn't belong. Besides the rice, the flavor really wasn't there. I got jalapeño salsa that's suppose to be spicy and I couldn't taste it at all. Don't know if we will return. read more

Upon meeting the eccentric staff at freebirds, I automatically felt welcomed and at home. The preparation staffer made recommendations and answered my questions about the menu with patience and expertise. The other staff that added toppings was attentive and even gave me a sample of the vinaigrette sauce that I wasn't sure I wanted on my burrito. I ended up loving it and adding it to my burrito. Overall the place was clean and friendly with little aluminum foil figurines on the walls were soo cute! I will definitely be back here to try more things on the menu! 10/10 will recommend read more

The burritos are superb! To call this place just another Chipotle clone is a serious injustice. Freebirds takes the concept of the Mission-Style burritos (i.e. throw everything in the tortilla and make it huge and hearty) and injects it with steroids. They also put a wonderful freshness spin on it too. First you have you have your choice of different tortillas (plain, wheat, spinach, or cayenne) and size, ranging from "eh I'm full" to "whoa I think I'm going to die!"Then you add the usual choice of meats, sauce, beans, rice, lettuce etc. etc. In the end, what you have is a burrito that is meticulously crafted by one of the wonderful staff members here. My favorite has to be the Freebird size carnitas in cayenne tortilla, rice, refried beans, hot and BBQ sauce, lettuce, mixed cheese, and sour cream. Enjoy! read more
