Freebirds 07-09-26 Decided to try it again! This time it was much better. Might even say it was good. The difference was night and day! We went and had dinner. My grandson got the Super Monster Burrito and I got the regular Burrito. This time the food was hot and fresh. I tried the Taco Meat this time and really enjoyed it. Walking through the line I got the impression that the employee didn't want to be there! She just stood there looking at me. I ordered the burrito bowl. She put a little rice in the bowl. I chose the ground taco meat. She scrapped what little bit of the meat in the pan. Grease and all. Probably not 2 tablespoons! It was a very sad bowl. My grandson got the monster burrito! It was made with one tortilla and it was not a monster. For reference, we eat at the one in Denton Texas and it's great! The monster had two tortillas and lots of filling. The two items cost me $40.00 which was ridicules! Everything was half the size and twice the price. I will not be back. Chipotle's and Freebirds are at the bottom of my list! Taco Casa has better food! This was a total Fail for me. I looked at the receipt after we left and we got water to drink. We were charged $5.00 for our two drinks of small water! Very bad experience. I know everyone has good and bad days. This was a really bad day! I don't like giving bad reviews but when it's Bad it's BAD! Give it a try at your own risk. There are no photos it was that bad. The customer service is horrendous, first time I went I gave the guy a pass figured his day must've been horrible which is why he would only stare at me and not speak a word and every question was met with a monotone answer like he hates being their. Second time going my wife described the service as horrible I described the guy helping her to a T and she Ofcourse had the same person I had weeks earlier. Ordered online after a day of Christmas shopping, went in to pick up and they didn't even know they had an online order. Proceeded to wait 30 minutes just for 2 bowls. Ordered freebies for the first time & it was amazing. I had a 40% off Uber eats code and decided to order a prime rib burrito. I got the biggest size and ended up being only $21!!! Amazing!! My order was made timely and packaging was terrific. They even added a $7 burrito or bowl for Tuesday and I'm probably going to get me another freebirds burrito. Keeping in mind I've grown up eating at the Austin Freebirds, I was disappointed. They don't have that Freebirds fun and vibe - what sets it above Chipolte and makes it a fun destination for a great meal. Where is the quirky fun, the unique quality, the TIN FOIL ART! I even asked and was told the district manager aka Scrooge won't allow it and forces employees to remove any left by customers. What a shame. Places like Freebirds aren't just the food (that was great), it is also the atmosphere. District Manager - you blew it! People go there for great food but also for the quirky staff, the atmosphere, and the tin foil art. You get 4.5 stars for food (you lose half because you don't have spinach tortillas) and decent staff. You lose 2.5 for the lack of atmosphere that costs you nothing! The food was pretty good overall. Such a low rating because of the 6 employees, only 1 was working on dine-in customers.. Another was clearly working on to-go orders, and another was chopping up some meat that just got off the grill. After that though, he went to the back room with 2 others and didn't help at all. Im from Austin and have been going to freebirds for many many years . I think its more of this location that has issues rather than the actual company . I use the Rewards and had gotten free Queso after spending 100.00 ( many burritos) When I went to redeem the employee ( Anthony was rude and argued that chips dont come with the queso from the rewards ! Guess they expected me to eat the pint of queso with a spoon or straw! he argued with me until I walked out . So thats the 1st bad experience. I called corporate and spoke with Adam( Nice Guy!) he put the queso reward back on my app and said he would talk to the store . So 2nd time around for the Queso This time the wonderful employee was Jessica visit was 10/28/20 she did same as Anthony gave me a hassle over the chips ! I said I spoke to corporate and am suppose to get chips with the queso . She didnt want to hear it so I told her to call a manager . So with a line behind me and store full of customers Im sitting there waiting for here while she is on the phone with manager . Comes back and asks employee to give her a large chips . I was imprisoned in the hotel next door, and I really did not want to get back in the car again, so I tried Freebirds, and I'm glad I did. I suppose the concept is similar to Chipotle, but I haven't been to many of those either, so I won't try to compare the two. The idea is "build your own burrito", or in my case, a salad bowl with burrito ingredients on top. And I was pleasantly surprised. The employee I dealt with was not exactly a ball of fire, but she was moderately helpful if you could find a way to verbally twist her arm a bit. The impression I have is that she would perk right up if I was some celebrity or a person her own age; she really would rather be somewhere else, or perhaps prefers that I was someone else. The food I had was good. Both the cilantro rice and the beans were excellent. I had some diced charred chicken that was very well seasoned and cooked. All of the cold ingredients I added on top tasted fresh and had a nice level of spice. They have quite a variety of options, and you can watch the meats being grilled as you traverse the line. I think the reason this place surprised me is that I came in expecting "Burrito Subway", and the food I received was way beyond my expectations. Freebirds is a great place to eat. This one in particular, has been a great experience. Build a Burrito is way better than Build a Bear. The staff during the lunch hour does amazing. There is absolutely no talking in kitchen but the boys are putting in work! Their is a person at every station to speed up the process. Their dining area has some crumbs here and there but still good enough to enjoy the delicious food. Online customers get priority over drive through and walk ins. I honestly LOVE freebirds.. I will drive further out of my way to get freebirds vs Chipotle/Subway. So as far as taste goes- FIVE STARS. However 50% of why customers love and return to a certain brand is the way they are treated. Especially during this climate of unrest amongst each other in our country, walking in with a smile on my face and always being polite, I do not appreciate feeling like I am inconveniencing someone by having them make me 3 salads. I eat here most days. Collin is the coolest guy ever and rolls the best burritos. Aside from the employees they also have promos through out the week. Kids eat for free on sundays and if you show them your tattoos on Tuesdays (tattoosdays) you get free chips and salsa. Shout out to Collin again for being awesome. read more

I know for a foodie it's a little strange for me to have waited this long to try this restaurant. Ordinarily I try to make it to any new eateries within a week or so of it's opening. Anyway, I've heard from various people how great the burritos were here; on Friday I decided to try it out. I'm a fan! The toppings were fresh (an important detail since I went there at about 3:30 PM; well after lunch and before dinner) and the service was great. I was informed of items that were available for an extra charge (no surprises at checkout) and the cashier was kind enough o fish out an extra gooey brownie from the bunch! I will be returning for lunch this week. This time I think I'll forgo the veggies and add queso for an added umph! I'll let you know how my second run goes.
