My wife and I were actually headed to another restaurant, but decided to stop in at Aurora's for some groceries. I mentioned to my wife that these kinds of places often have kitchens and boy we were in luck. The man in charge, Albert, descended on us and started simultaneously asking what we wanted to order AND praising the virtues of his tamales, among other things. But he had me at "Birria". After being introduced to birria tacos by my lifelong friend, Joel, I have been a huge fan ever since. So we called an audible and decided to get an order for takeout (Albert could convince you to buy anything, I think). We got two orders of Corn QuesaBirria Tacos and the Jalapeño Popper Specialty Taco. Both were great and I especially liked the Birria Tacos, even eating my wife's portion... "You going to eat that?" We've only ordered via doordash, so this review is about the food only as I can't say anything about the ambiance or service. The food is good but I, personally, don't think I can eat here again. The tacos are greasy and I think whatever they use to cook gives me really bad gas (bloating). So if you're stomach-sensitive, I do not recommend. read more

I came here based off of the QuesaBirria Tacos and queso reviews. They did not disappoint! It was the bomb! Their staff is friendly and helpful. The only reason I gave this a 4 star review was because the establishment had a terrible urine smell as if a bathroom pipe had busted; I understand that they are located in the back of a convenient store and it may have been out of their control. They are located inside of a convenience store, so we don't come here for the vibes lol. However, when you venture to the back wall where the restaurant is housed, you begin to understand why it's so packed, especially on a weekend. Went in on a Saturday around 12:45 pm was busy, no where to sit down. Good sign right? It is inside of a gas station and has 4 tables. Placed order, table finally cleared after a few min however the food took a while to come out so idk how they prioritize their to-go orders since several ppl came/picked up food before we got our food. Their advertised Special (al pastor) (advertised on their tv and printed paper near register) not available because they had no trompo. Fine but that was why we came. Ordered the following: Birria Empanadas (3) Full Taco Plate (4) with rice and beans. Birria empanadas were good but would def be better as a taco. 3.5/5 Consume lacked flavor and pretty meaty, almost just tasted like seasoned grease. Taco plate (beef fajita) 1/5 stars. Terrible. I literally feel bad saying this but do better, not exaggerating. There was nothing fajita about this. It was like a a bad version of carne guisada. Literally stewed meat/mush. Rice and refried beans were great (no charro avl). Green salsa was very good. Staff was friendly but for the cost ($29) for 2 ppl $ not including drinks, it left more to be desired. read more

Absolutely worth the drive. We were feeling adventurous so we took a trip 20 min up of Georgetown to get some birria tacos at Aurora Family Kitchen (located in a convenience store) and my, oh my, what a great choice. I've had quite a few birria tacos in Austin and I've never felt they lived up to the crispy, flavorful sensation of what the internet says until now. Aurora makes it properly with two tortillas that are extra crispy on the outside and within, is melty strongly mozzarella cheese with a multidimensional broth. The rice had a hint of my Viet Cajun flavors in it so I was also ecstatic about that. We like being in Georgetown or small town because they also haven't lost their sense of customer service. The owner was great, nice enough to make recommendations and checked on us the entire time. We didn't even have to bus our own table! Best Mexican food I have ever tasted hands-down. This is the only place that I will eat at or order from when I am home or when I am out and about, it is family orientated owned by the family. I very rarely write reviews, admittedly. I'm also very skeptical of restaurants that have 100% 5-star reviews. And I say this with complete honesty -- this is a 5/5 restaurant. From chatting with the owner, this place is a true labor of love. The guacamole was 100% fresh and perfect. The birria was the best I've ever had; the consommé was bursting with flavor. The street tacos -- those corn tortillas are obviously homemade and sooooo good. We got a little cup of green salsa that was a beautiful punch of lime, avocado, cilantro, and heat in the mouth. Eat here. Just do it. We lived in TX for over a decade, moved away a couple years ago, and came back to do a swing through Dallas, FW, Austin, and SA. We've had SO MUCH Tex-Mex. After a very full weekend my husband and I were driving home and looking for a quick and delicious dinner convenient to I-35. We saw Aurora's perfect score and decided to give it a try even though they were closing in 20 minutes. The owner could not have welcomed us more warmly assuring us it was no problem and took time to walk us through the menu. We ordered the Consomme de Birria, chicken tamales, brisket tamales, and he brought us his favorite taco as a complimentary bonus. Each item had such a depth of flavor, perfectly cooked, was so well balanced; it was all absolutely delicious!!! We left with appetites sated AND spirits revived.
