My wife's uncle needed a caregiver to visit with him weekly to provide some assistance at his home.

Because the care and programming and staff are so family- and patient-centered, my brothers and sister and I have a kind of peace of mind and heart we never thought possible. All I can say is thank heavens they bought long-term care insurance (with no cap!) back in the late '90s. After mom passed in 2016, dad ultimately moved to the "Renaissance Care" floor, where every possible need he has is met. We even transferred his supplementary health insurance coverage plan to the Sunrise Advantage Plan, as it's far less costly than BCBS, and his care is even more comprehensive, with visiting providers instead of the disruption of him having to go to them, which is quite difficult in his current confused state. We were worried they wouldn't like the food, but they loved it from the start! I think the food at a place like this serves as a barometer for their feelings about being there, and from the start, although a bit bumpy at first (nobody wants to move away from home), they settled in nicely and made friends. I would highly recommend Sunrise to anyone considering assisted living.

I wish I could write a glowing review. Initially I was very impressed by the owner's knowledge &…read moresupport. However it soon became clear that she shoots first and asks questions later. I was nothing but nice to her, repeatedly thanked her for her help, and was vocal about recommending her to other facilities and people. The first time she was harsh and accusatory with me, I blew it off. The second was especially nasty and disproportionate, so I addressed it with her. I'm a licensed psychotherapist and I spent a year in hospice, so I think I know about talking to people. And really, it's not good business sense to be accusatory and threatening with ANY client-- especially for a forthright and honest question -- especially when you know they are navigating a trauma! And I'm using that word trauma clinically, not hyperbolically. She was accountable and apologized for being reactive, which I appreciated. However, when one of her caregivers began behaving in a way that I can now see was inappropriate, addressing it with the owner was the furthest thing from my mind. I was thinking she'd probably blame me somehow. I decided to sign my dad up for respite care, as he was having more and more safety issues. I thought we had to give 2 days notice, and when I reached out to her and said I'd definitely want to resume with her when he came home, her only response was "It's two weeks, read the contract." He was trying to light his e-cigarettes on the stove and that's her response. About a week later, she sent an empathetic note with her last invoice... for 2 weeks, 12 days of which was no service provided, just my "not enough notice" fee. She offered to give me 6 days free if I come back to APT, but at that point, it was worth setting a few thousand dollars on fire to be away from the problems. This business has a lot of potential, but I can see the way the owner's interpersonal style affects the caregivers, and ultimately affected me. Sad, because I was so pleased initially.
