We recently completed a VA refinance through BluFi, specifically with Brett Korf who was outstanding. Brett was responsive, available and very knowledgeable; particularly of the VA loan process. All told, it took us less than 30 days to close and Brett had given us multiple options/scenarios to think about and we ultimately chose an option we didn't even know was available under the program. My Wells Fargo home loan was bought out by Freedom. Tedious at best on boarding experience and I wasn't able to actually speak to a representative to find out where to send my monthly check. Then there was a major issue with paying my insurance by the time it was due. I ended up paying out of pocket even though I have taxes and insurance paid thru the mortgage. My insurance company tried for 3 days to speak with someone regarding this matter. This was my final straw to sell the property and be done with this crap company. read more

My loan was with Freedom Mortgage. I put in for a refi to get rid of a lifetime of debt. I knew it would be difficult, with some tax issues. I was never late on my mortgage for 31/2 years. Never late on any payments for anything. We had $400,000 in equity. We have five sources of retirement income that couldn't be touched in a bad economy. Someday, somebody will need to explain to us how two Veterans, with everything above, couldn't be helped, especially a company that prides itself on helping Veterans. Freedom Mortgage I strongly advise against using Freedom Mortgage. They misled us with letters claiming we owed $334 and told us the letters were scams and not to pay, even though we were never behind on our payments. Following their instructions, we paid immediately--but they still damaged our credit report by 95 points. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They refused to take responsibility and kept directing me to email addresses that explicitly say "Do Not Reply."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Over the past three months, they've continued sending certified letters for the same issue. If I could give zero stars, I would. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My mortgage was sold to Freedom Mortgage, and they called out of the blue stating they had reviewed my account and wanted to lower my interest rate "Free of Charge" as a way to "keep me in their portfolio".[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Sounds too good to be true, right? It is and was. Instead of being "Free of Charge", the 'lowering of the interest rate' is actually a Refinance, but they don't/won't tell you that.. And, they add the "Closing Costs" associated with the Refinance to the back end of your mortgage. That's NOT "Free of Charge", and they don't tell you until they have to that it's a Refinance. As an example, in 'lowering my interest rate', they charged $6,252 in Closing Costs and tried adding it onto the back end of my mortgage, thus increasing the outstanding mortgage loan balance from roughly $523,000 to over $530,000. That's not Free of Charge. They are dishonest and deceptive in their practices and do a ton of double speak to try and keep you from noticing the fine print. Don't walk away from Freedom Mortgage ... I'm so disappointed with Freedom Mortgage. Our mortgage has been sold multiple times, and I've dealt with numerous mortgage servicers over the years. When this mortgage was taken over by Freedom, we received a notice that we were required to have insurance on the property. We do. Why didn't our insurance information carry over from our prior servicer, which is the usual process during the transfer, and if not, why didn't they request the information from us as a new customer? I dealt with that issue. Now yesterday, we received a $7,287.87 escrow bill in the mail. I expected to owe some additional amount in escrow ($1,742 per my calculations). I eventually discovered that they overpaid our insurance company by $3,523! Now, to fix this issue has involved horrible customer service and being disconnected. And getting to a human is very difficult. Getting back to that same person (even with her name and extension) is impossible. read more

Watch out. I recently made a payment online as I usually do. Checked the email and it said I made 2 payments. I canceled the one right away and even received an email verification that it was successfully cancelled. Next day 2 payments came out of my bank account. Spent hours on phone with Freedom mortgage and my bank. Freedom was supposed to return the one payment. Over 2 days and still no refund. My wife & I own several homes & 3 of our mortgages were transferred to Freedom Mortgage and it has be a pain dealing with them. Recently the escrow amount changed so understandably the payment went up. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Well one of the mortgages my wife had set under auto-pay from our bank account and she turned off the paper bills in the mail(so we never received a written notice).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So she did not realize that the payment was a $150-$200 short due to escrow increase and instead of calling us to say that it was short they filed a 30 day late on credit report which dropped the credit down 100 points. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we called to try & get it straighten out Freedom Mortgage said that they sent her an "email" notice but for some reason it went to Spam.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We asked why didn't you call & they said it wasn't their policy to call for that but then they have time to call us "every week" asking if we want to pull out equity & do a refi on any of out other loans.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Keep in mind that we have never been late on any of our loans. Purchased my loan from Equity Prime Mortgage. Payments have always been set up On the 22nd of each month due to when the SSDI and VA and teachers pay hits. Now this company won't honor those moving forward instead charging late fees. Will not let the auto pay be set up. Have to do manual pay each month. Customer service is rude and does not help. 100% disabled vet and this company is horrible to work with and does not support its military or honor its word at all! read more

I am a customer with freedom mortgage but I will never again. I thought they were good with the refinanceing when the rate were dropping. But that just extended the loan . Now I that I have a lot of equity in the house can't touch it because they want to refinance the principal which would double my mortgage. If you want to wait 120 days to refinance and have a staff that is clueless, this is your Mortgage company. After 90 days I started calling to see what to hold up was and they seemed just as clueless. They even got my closing wrong 3 times. It was a horrible experience and after I finally closed I received an email asking about my experience. One of the questions was would you speak negatively on social media about us? I answered yes and stated I would like to speak to someone about it, but Instead I have been ignored and found they sold it to another lender. I know this is common, but not when I was refinancing. I refinanced my home with this company in November, so I wouldnt have to pay that month. They promised my Mortgage would start in December. I ended up double paying my Mortgage in October, and contacted them immediately to rectify the situation. They told me I would be reimbursed and should recieve a check in the mail. Instead of refunding my money or moving the payment to December, they took it upon themselves to use my money for November. They said there was nothing they could do as they had already closed the old loan with November's payment. Mind you, this is right before the holiday. Don't trust this company. BluFi cost me thousands of dollars and nearly lost me the condo I was purchasing. What ever you do, don't go with BluFi lending. The property had approval and I was working with BluFi, but numerous times mistakes were made and even after contacting the manager of the entire office, very little was done to rectify the mistakes. After contacting the bank myself the process continued only to be halted again as I was told there was not enough owner occupancy to get the property. Mind you this was already over 30 days into the loan process and not only was this completely incorrect, but how in the world did it take them so long to figure this out? They have a 21 day closing guarantee, which is not a guarantee of anything since it took about 40 days for me to get to the point I fired them. On top of this, the person handling the underwriting quite literally refused to write me back or call me back after a week and at least 10 calls to her office and cell phone. As I said, they were incorrect about not being able to sell a property with low owner occupancy so I am now with a great lender and have close within about 18 days. Unfortunately loan rates have skyrocketed and because of the delay caused by BluFi, I will be paying about $200 more a month on my home loan. On top of this it delayed so long because of them I missed an important family reunion which was booked for almost a year. *Edit: Was contacted promptly by a number of people at BluFi. They offered an apology and compensation which I found to be very professional. read more

Freedom Mortgage San Diego should be ashamed of the customer service (or lack thereof) they are providing  to military families.  I recently contacted Freedom to do an IRRRL Streamline Refinance for a VA loan I have with them.  The process started out like any other refinance I've done, until the day I was due to close they cancelled the notary without telling me or giving me a reason.  It took me 7 days to finally get a response from the loan officer.  It happens that my last month's payment and an escrow error on Freedom's end is sitting in unapplied funds.  At this point I have escalated the matter to a supervisor who instructs me to hold off on making my payment until the escrow analysis is complete.  She assures me the issue will be resolved and will not negatively impact my credit or show up as a late payment.  One week later, I  get a negative credit report notification!!!  I've now been trying to work through this issue with Freedom for 4 LONG WEEKS.  They have not resolved the billing issue or the negative credit report.  They have repeatedly told me they would resolve the issue and get back to me and almost a week passes by before I have to contact them again. DO NOT buy into all this nonsense about how great Freedom Mortgage is and how amazing their customer service is.  I know I am not alone as this has happened to other veterans who previously banked with Freedom. read more

Freedom Mortgage sucks. They have been working on my refinance for 6 months and just can't seem to get it done. This is for a slam dunk 30% loan to value that should be a no brainer. They have asked for all my Financial information THREE TIMES, every two months. Now they are asking for all of my data a 4th time. Other than the entertainment value of the betting pool for how long it will take them to complete (including side bets on how long before they find an excuse to drop this whole charade)I would have aborted working with Freedom mortagage awhile ago. I wish I had never engaged with Frededom Mortgage on my refinance, and advise people to stay away from these idiots. What makes it so painful is the never ending requests for the same information, and even worse is the "secure" communication every week that requires you to go through a bunch of steps to electronically sign a document that basically says because they are incompetent that they will likely drop your loan request. I have called 9 times and spent an hour on the phone with them each time trying to correct a reporting error that they know is on their side, but they can't even figure out how to use their own system. So in the mean time, I keep getting late notices and threatening credit and forbearance letters. I have never paid a mortgage payment late in my life. Not even a day. They charged me a bogus $2,700 for property insurance. I informed them that my condo's HOA's insurance policy covers my property insurance and that was sufficient to the three previous mortgage companies. They told me my policy doesn't cover improvements, I told them I didn't have any improvements. This went on in circles for a month. Finally a representative said I didn't have to pay for insurance. Horrible company! I am in the process of refinancing my mortgage and the experience has been nothing, but frustration. The process is now in limbo. Their staff and customer advocates are unprofessional. There is clear and absolute lack of coordination that becomes glaringly apparent when you talk to different people in the company. They were the only company that would talk to me about refinancing my mortgage due to my credit at the time. In fact, they had approved me for a refinance. However, the terms of the deal constantly changed. The person I initially dealt with went MIA on me. Every time I called to speak to someone the story changed and could never get confirmation of the original deal that was promised. The people that you talk to either don't listen or don't write down what you say. Very unprofessional.
